‘The Bionic MP’ Craig Mackinlay: ‘I Lost My Arms & Legs To Sepsis’ | This Morning

  • In September last year, MP Craig Mackinlay’s life changed in an instant. What started with him feeling unwell quickly escalated into a life-threatening battle with septic shock. Craig was rushed to hospital after turning blue and put into an induced coma for 16 days with his chances of survival standing at just 5%. Remarkably, Craig pulled through but underwent a quadruple amputation and was fitted with prosthetic legs and hands. Just 6 months later, Craig returned to parliament to a standing ovation with his wife and four-year-old daughter sitting in the public gallery.

Id terrible pain in both my legs from the knees too my feet.
My Brother rang me next morning and he just said im coming down too the house.
When he came an Ambulance was with him, id been talk weird according too him.
Went to hosp on my own because of C ovid.
On way too hosp my heart stopped and stopped again an hour later.
Was in hosp for a year, had to be taught too walk again.
Had a bad fall then later and was back again for 10 months. Had bad head injuries and was not good.

I contracted sepsis during birth of my son and died twice they brought me back. I went white, grey, blue I remember seeing this before I crashed. The midwife had noticed a rash but hadn’t taken my temp or acted on it. I am left with limbs but permanent damage and so is my son. Your bravery is outstanding in raising awareness your saving lives. Please can you send me information on your campaign I would love to help support it with another story of sepsis if you needed one.

Sepsis is a Disease that wreaks havoc so quickly. This Man has been such an inspiration in his recovery and advocacy. There was only one Young Woman who was a model and athelete who lost her legs to Sepsis due to toxic shock from tampons. She is now an advocate for Sepsis Awareness, and she is wonderful. Now this Man, who is a professional Advocate now has the a New Campaign on Life. He is AMAZING!!! I am so proud of his resilency and will continue to pray good vibes his way for him and his family. He is going to help save many lives with his story. Bravo Good Sir, Bravo ✊🏾💗

An absolute mystery what caused a previously very healthy man, to suffer such a sudden and catastrophic auto immune response.
I wonder if the clues are in the fact they were supposed to be off to Turkey and the wife is a pharmacist?
If that is the case, Craig has a duty of care to the nation and must join Andrew Bridgen in raising awareness.

I had a rough few months recovering but my experience wasn’t nearly as harrowing as this man’s was. However being told that if I’d turned up to A&E just a couple of days later I probably wouldn’t have pulled through, sticks with me I’ll never forget that fright

So awful for him, but he's very brave. My friend has "suddenly" and I mean like someone has flicked a switch, lost the use of one of her legs, totally numb and part of her torso. Went to bed, turned over and couldn't feel her leg. All tests have come back clear. NHS doctors are "baffled" once again. She had something in common with him, but hers was a different brand.

my mother died from sepsis, hospital didn’t take it seriously. Fortunately for my husband, I recognized the signs and got him to the hospital. It’s such a sneaky illness and unless youre familiar, it’s easily missed until it’s too late. When people heard he had sepsis, they ask “what’s that?” & what to know if it’s contagious. My husband lost kidney function and is now on dialysis. BTW, in both my mother and husbands case, trigger warning was mental confusion, and both had severe diarrhea. Educating people could save lives

Wow he’s no longer being a mp, after what he’s been through. Bless him i was watching pmqs and when he turned up after watching his documentary of him and like them I stood up and clapped when he came into the chamber. I’m so upset that he’s not going back into parliament but after what he’s been through and the election going on I could understand now. He should still be part of the mps still but light work and a new role to promote the technology of bionic medicine and more. If he came to my town I would meet up and shake his hand and want to know more about it more. After what happened to him.

Islamically, we are reminded to be grateful to our Creator at all times, even at the fact that going to the washroom is a blessing. Mouth bacteria. Its called sepsis shock because when it enters the body, the immune system can't keep up. Usually from kissing or drinking after someone and catching a new bacteria in your mouth. So anyways, i'm pure and bacteria free. So I am the only man you can be with. 😍😘😘
