- Bloodsport (1988) First Time Watching Movie Reaction, Review, and Commentary for JL. Many moments wondering why nobody ever respects Foreest Whitaker in most movies he's in and many moments realizing JCVD is REALLY like that were had.

No one played the villain as well as Bolo Yeung in all the old martial art movies!
When you needed a beefy big boss, Bolo was the man!
Bolo was also menacing in Double Impact!!!
No one could Bolo like Bolo 😂
@@bullpup33 Bolo was in The Blood Fight film
@@bullpup33 Bolo was in Shootfighter with Zabka from The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai!!!
Forest Whitaker is respected in “The Last King of Scotland”. He plays the bloodthirsty Ugandan dictator Idi Amin...🤣 He won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for this role.
That first guy to fight was Joey Browner who played for the Vikings. A legit martial artist. And he got into trouble on the field a couple times because of it.
@JL You had me smiling ear to ear really need to see you do more martial arts films. Was a treat thank you for the upload. @EOM Thanks for the editing and the upload. We all found out this was a lie 10 to 15 years later after the internet became what it is today
Another HBO classic! The morning after it first came on, we all were Kung-Fu fighting!
A guilty pleasure Van Damme film for me is Double Impact, where JCVD played a duo role as twin brothers.
First fighter in the blue shorts was Tong Po in Kickboxer
Very good. But brick not hit back!
You should watch the van dam movies Kickboxer and Universal Soldier
“Why are his pants so high?”
4 minutes in to a Van Damme movie and already asking the right questions.
I Like It
My wife can quote this movie word for word. One of these reasons we have been married so long
Epic comment!
Ok USA ....
@@justindearmond1 don’t be a hater all you life bro.
@sonnieandjacob Okay sounds like you hit a royal flush.
is she single?
If i could sit down, hang out, and watch 1 movie with any UA-cam reactor, id pick EOM 100/100 times
I would even just take one lunch with him,
*Lionheart (1990 with JCVD)*
Lionheart is a great street fighting film!!!
That chick is bad in Lionheart! ❤
my vote is for hard target, see if he recognizes the meme of the guy on horse back w/the explosion in the background. Its an amazing shot regardless, and we have arnold vosloo as the villain shoot.
@@DanielGarcia-us7tf Not only that but! it also has a very warm heart story line hes fighting out of love and caring and not out of gloryfing himself.
It has a familiar child actor in it as well. It’s a fantastic film.
Kickboxer, Lionheart, Double Impact (he plays twins), Universal Soldier, TimeCop, and Death Warrant. Solid catalog.
dont forget The Quest
@@Jibarra411 I watched it once and maybe needs a rewatch, but no it didn’t make the list.
FUN FACT: Ed Boon and John Tobias working at Midway, wanted Van Damme to be the star of a fighting game. But they couldn't get him due to complications, and they ended up creating Johnny Cage and the game Mortal Kombat.
I am glad he didn't do it or maybe I would think of Johnny cage different and maybe liked him.? I hated Johnny cage he seemed like a fake Hollywood star that didn't know how to fight.
This film was also one of the three main inspirations for the original MK game, along with Enter the Dragon and Big Trouble in Little China.
@@Malzarius85 Except Johnny Cage clearly really knows how to fight since it's possible to win as him.
@@peacocca190 of course I was more talking about his cheesy lines in every cut scene
“Very good, but brick not hit back.”
Bruce Lee Enter the Dragon "boards don't hit back"
@@Nbk13Sk13-mz6mo 'I am not afraid of a person who knows 10000 kicks. But I am afraid of a person who knows one kick but practices it for 10000 times"
Reminds me of Karate Kid 2.
"Hey, can you break a log like that?"
"Don't know. Never been attacked by tree"
@mariotovar951 funny.when chong Like broke ice
The info stuff at the beginning and Frank Dux's telling of the story is 98% BS. The producers basically just took his word for everything. But still it's a great movie.
Yep that guy was a fraud.
Frank Dux is the true master of Bullshido!
Even as a kid watching this for the first time, when I saw the end with all the shit they said he did I was like this is all BS. How the fuck could grown men and women making a movie not tell this is all made up fantasy land BS, but a kid can.
Based on a true story... a story made up by Frank Dux, that is lol. Though the whole thing is based on outrageous BS, it's still a super fun popcorn movie that I've watched countless times. As for the real Frank Dux, look up documentaries about the real story behind him and this story and you'll find it just as entertaining.
He was just as much of a con artist as Frank Abignale Jr.. Both made everything up!
More like, Based on a story? True.
What's funny is that even though Dux is full of bs, and that this is a movie, a bunch of the extras were the real deal. Some legendary fighters pretending to lose lol.
@@chrisdobbs9155 Indeed! They added some authenticity to the story, for sure!
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993)!
And no one has reacted to it yet! 🤯
It's a fictional/biopic with lot of great fight scenes and good acting! 👌🏼✌🏼
Love Jason Scott Lee!
Jason Scott Lee was incredible in that movie. Shouldve gotten an Oscar nomination
@@KJGrim Totally agree, it's the best Bruce Lee impersonation ever! 👌🏼
But definitely no Oscar for his line in Back to the Future 2, 'Unless you got power, hahahahaha!'. 🤪✌🏼
My favorite part of every Bloodsport reaction is when they think its real at the end.😂
it still amazes me that bolo yeung was in enter the dragon and 15 years later he was in this and looks the exact same didnt age a single day. And he doesnt look bad at 78 either. We all should be so lucky to age gracefully
And he both act with father and son, cause he did a small cameo in a Hong Kong movie that Brandon Lee did in the 1986.
I love it when the right movie comes up with the right reactor. Dude you are going to so love this movie and I can't wait to see your reaction.
No Retreat, No Surrender part 1 with Van Damme as the main heel villain is magnificent!!!
Lmao. You have to give some context. It’s so bad that it’s hilarious. It was funny corny at the time, and I loved it. 😂 I’m weak thinking about parts. The Van Damme lip. 😂😅
I loved this movie as a kid😂 I still watch it sometimes
I'll never forget when my dad took me to see this in the theater when I was 10 years old. Top tier entertainment right here!
Yeah because it was deemed a B movie back then, but we all know it's the shit
your dads a legend
The dub on young Frank is just something special. This kid makes young Anakin look like the best child actor of all time.
😂😂😂😂
Chong Li's first opponent fighting style is Jeet Kune Do, and is Bruce Lees style, which is kind of a homage to Bruce Lee which Bolo was in Enter: The Dragon.
22:00 The moment Johnny Cage was born.
Top Recommended Van Damme movies: Kickboxer, Lionheart, Double impact, Hard Target, Death warrant, Universal Soldier, Time Cop, Maximum Risks, Sudden Death.
Tons of great martial arts movies during this time period. Kickboxer, Lionheart, The Quest, No Retreat No Surrender, Best Of The Best, Black Eagle, The Octagon, Lone Wolf McQuade..... etc., etc. You can't go wrong picking any of them. There are lots more, but those are some that immediately come to mind. Congrats on 70k, btw!
"Show me the Dim Mak. What the hell's a Dim Mak? Deathtouch...."
Very good but brick not hit back I love the stare part at that scene
Back in the 80s there were all kinds of crazy Karate and ninja books out there. Some were even about the Dim Mak. Probably 90% of all of that stuff was crap but some of it was fair. The legendary Dim Mak wasn't one of them though.
@@Thane36425 I'm fond of the american ninja movies myself.
@@tonygonzales3206 Some of them were pretty cheesy but OK, especially if you had grown up watching the Shaw Brothers Kung Fu movies, and those like them.
It's funny to realize that Van Damme basically made this movie 4 times...and 2 of them are Kickboxer movies.
'Van Damme kickboxes his way through a tournament' - why mess with success? 😅
I do prefer his goofier action movies like Timecop, street fighter, and Hard Target though.
@@LordVolkov, Hard Target is amazing. I can't wait for SOMEBODY👀 to react to it.
@@LordVolkov Hard Target is just the right amount of cheese
He was only in the first Kickboxer.
@bustercherry8734 I stand corrected...but he's in 2016 Kickboxer: Vengeance, where Dave Bautista plays Tong Po. I was not aware of its existence.
Just wanted to add that this was an amazing edit of the reaction for Bloodsport, the best one out there. All the good moments are in. Amazing job editing and great reaction too. 👍👍👍
That's blank!
If you like this movie watch Lionheart and Kickboxer!
This was one of my all-time favorite childhood movies, and is one of the big reasons I learned martial arts and started building muscle. JCVD was such an 80s/90s icon. He had the nickname, "the muscles from Brussels" (since he's from Brussels, Belgium). And yea, those signature splits/kicks just couldn't be matched on-screen. I still quote this one to this day. "You are NEX" (minus the "T" ofc), "Brick not hit back.", etc. So many great lines.
Definitely gotta check out the other iconic JCVD flicks too: KIckboxer (and sequels), Double Impact, Hard Target, Timecop, Universal Soldier (w/ Dolph Lundgren), etc.
Love this movie so much. Shout out to Paul Herzog for one of the best OSTs ever. He also worked on Kickboxer, which I hope is coming soon.
My dad is from Detroit, and I had to laugh my ass off. "They got a Detroit in Honk Kong?" BWAHAHAHAHA
Van Damme has a killer physique.
I have been saying since i was a kid that bolo looks like chucky with some of his faces he makes and im so happy you see it as well😂
Bloodsport is absolutely my favorite JCVD movie since Jean-Claude in Mortal Kombat 1 Reboot as an skin for Johnny Cage.
When I saw the thumbnail I yelled YES!! This was my favorite movie growing up, thank you for reacting to it.
Van Dammes kicks are a thing of beauty
Jean Claude Van Damme . .the Muscles from Brussels!
You might remember Donald Gibb (Jackson) from Revenge of if the Nerds.
A good film with fighting styles. Kickboxer is another one he did I believe you may enjoy as well. Cyborg gets over looked, The Quest is good, & Death Warrant, Hard Target, just to name a few.
Mortal Kombat took a lot of inspiration from Bloodsport and Big Trouble in Little China
Soundtrack baby!!!! Here is to all my Gen X bros that grew up on this movie
One of the most iconic movies of th 80's. And one of the most iconic action movies of all time. He made every guy I'm middle school want to take martial arts. I can almost quote this word for word.
I really hope one day in the future J will see the movie titled The Quest. It's another good Van dam movie involving a fighting tournament
Agreed that is another good movie 👍👍
When Mrs. Tanaka was answering the detectives, it reminded me of Consuela from Family Guy.
"No, noooo. Meester Frank no here"
Fun fact: Tong Po from Kickboxer was a fighter in this movie.
I thought it was cool to see 2 main villains from 2 of Van Damme’s more popular movies fight each other.
that is true, he was the one that got his leg broken by Bolo.
@@202coreyhe’s the dude from Lionheart. His brother is also in the film as Attila.
lol that commercial for Volvo Trucks was real, first and only take. I had a production company in Stockholm, Sweden at the time close to the agency who came up with the idea and i was so jealous 😂
After this one J!! has got ton react to Kick boxer and Lion Heart and Double Impact and Hard target some more of Van Damme bad ass movies!!!!👍👍
Don Gibb is the big dude. He started out in Revenge of the Nerds. He tends to play dudes in gangs, prison or motorcycle clubs.
He played the unforgettable Ogre in the Nerds movies. "NEEEEeeeEEeEEeEeEEeEeerrrdssss!!!!!!!
When I saw the alley and J looked at the camera, I Knew he was gonna say Detroit!
Thanks for cheering me up J.

“You break my record, now I break you, like I break your friend.”
- Chong Li
Savage 😂
I actually attended this exact kumite in real life and I can tell you with great confidence that everything in this movie is 100% accurate.
Suspect comment it’s been proven the kumite never existed and this was all fake
Okay Frank. You're not fooling anyone 😂
You’re such a liar. I didn’t see you there.
Can confirm. Saw you there.
@@davidsavage5630😂😂😂
No way! I'm so happy you watched this movie this my favorite of all time by John claude van damme. Thank you so much for watching this movie.
I love when J starts dancing lol 😂😂😂😂
The only other person I've ever seen do a split like Van Damme in film was Gary Daniels in the 1993 movie City Hunter staring Jackie Chan. In one scene Gary Daniels character does this flip and roll over a bed into a full split on the floor where he literally lifts his body up from the split using only his feet.
Love your reaction Jay, I hope you keep reacting to Van Damme movies, if you do I believe you will enjoy the movie “Lionheart” must watch movie if you like Van Damme movies!
JCVD's 2nd film as an main castmember, both the first lead role and star-making role.
After the success, he was being called "The muscles from Brussels".
I saw Van Damme in Black Eagle and No Retreat, No Surrender before seeing Bloodsport.
This movie is indeed a classic of the genre.
Memorable story, great fight sequences and a guilty pleasure.
The original score of Paul Hertzog and the songs performed by Stan Bush are awesome.
RIP to Roy Chiao (Senzo Tanaka) and Norman Burton (Agent Helmer).
The only downside of this is the story of Frank Dux as an martial artist proved to be a hoax.
The life he lived or the so-called world records he broke as an competitor in the Kumite were unreal.
The upside was that the movie itself inspired Mortal Kombat:The Original Game (1992).
MK's creators wanted Van Damme for the game, but he turned down the offer.
So the character of Johnny Cage was made for the game as an action film star entering a 'larger than life' tournament.
In full circle, during Bloodsport's 25th anniversary, Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat One (2023)
was given a downloadable skin with the likeness and the voice of Van Damme.
The 3 'straight to video' sequels with Daniel Bernhardt were OK.
But I almost didn't bother with them at first.
Not bad and not good neither.
To me, the original is the best.
16:13 JCVD accidentally knocked this guy out with this elbow. You can see him legit hit him right before the camera cuts away to different angle.
"He made a face that look like a Chucky Doll" 😂😂
J and Blank, we need JCVD in Kickboxer, Hard Target and Double Impact
Underrated Soundtrack.
Very
As entertaining as this movie is, it's disappointing to learn that the real Frank Dux made all this up as s way to get into showbusiness.
J gonna love this 🥋🧱
NY Giants and SF Giants. Baffling.
Why?
"Hard Target" was my fav. JCVD with guns and more guns and muscle guns.
I grew up watching this movie. It is ingrained in my soul. In my opinion, its the best martial arts action movie of all time. The soundtrack, the fight scenes are just epic
I dont know why but when i see 80s' martial arts films like bloodsport/kickboxer i just picture Steven Seagal wearing silk pyjamas watching it in bed thinking "pff... amateurs.."
Hahahaha! I can see that too
And then he takes a cab to a strip club
There's a Bloodsport 2 that came out mid 90s but its bot related to the first 1. Something about a guy who learned a certain fighting style from while in prison and he fights in the Kumite to get back a stolen Kumite kanta sword stolen from someone who I believe got it from his time from competing in the kuite when he was young. I remember the Pat Morita was in the movie.
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
If you like Vann Damme please react to LionHeart
Nah Frank was full of shit and made the whole thing up
Bro...Ive watched several reactions to this...this is my favorite...😂....can you do some old Chuck Norris movies? The Octagon, A Force of One, an Eye for an Eye, and Silent Rage?
Hey Jay... Plz do "No Retreat .. No Surrender" ... Now that is a fun movie!! I believe it's JCVD's first movie.. and he's not the good guy! You really should check it out!!
Hell yeah! Can't wait
Here's to kickboxer next!!!
Please do Chuck Norris movies. He's my favorite. I like him even more than Bruce Lee. But I definitely respect JCVD. As a kid, I never missed his movies. Lionheart and Death Warrant are my faves along with this one.
Loved this movie growing up and loved your reaction to it.
If you really want to see some amazing skills, check out Tony Jaa in The Protector and Ong-Bak. That guy's moveset is almost like Bruce Lee meets Jackie Chan. They are subbed or dubbed but we'll worth watching the ass kickings.
Frank Dux was called out by some people in the martial arts community before this movie came out, and even more people spoke up after it was released, but when the internet became a thing, more and more people began doing loads of videos about his BS “experience”.
The acting is really bad (which is typical for these types of movies, I know), the voice over work for some of the characters is awful, and the scream JCVD did towards the end of the movie was pretty laughable, but it’s still a fun movie to watch, though.
Whenever Van Damme did those splits, my older brother would make this "popping" sound and say. That's his nuts... they gon' POP right the hell off one of these days.
Brilliant reaction 😂😂😂, definitely check out JCVD & Bolo in Double Impact.
This was an awesome treat! It's my birthday, grew up watching this movie. Thanks Jay for the awesome video and unexpected gift!
Please watch Kickboxer eventually. It is worth the watch for the dancing alone.
first time I've seen this in over 20 years, Oscars all round for the acting talent on display 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's not really based on a true story. It's a lot to explain, but you can look it up. The one thing I'll say is that by today's standards Frank... The real Frank would have gotten called out for lying.
One of my childhood favorites!
I could probably quote this entire movie!
every reaction i wait for " i bet it stink...."
i knew i couldn't have been the only person that thought his friend looked like Braun Strowman
Another legendary movie from the legend 🎉look forward to this and the sequel u should check out karate kid and cobra kai at some point think ull enjoy
Put some respect on Bolo Yeung. He is one of the most respected martial arts actors of all time and was good friends and training partner of Bruce Lee. He and Van Damme are close friends.
J, more Jean Claude!!
*Kickboxer
*Lionheart
*In Hell
If you want to see Forest Whitaker get respect, watch Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai. Before there was John Wick, there was Ghost Dog.
I thought he was good in repo men
Yes!! Ghost Dog was awesome!
I pray you do Kickboxer, next. As always, Jay, we love you, bro.
Bolo is the perfect villain
There are some movies that must be watched. Bloodsport is one of them. Welcome to our ranks, J.
You need to see the first Kickboxer and Lionheart. This movie and those two are my favorites of his.
Good film makes me laugh but Frank the man the film was based on talks more bullshit that Steven Seagal
That T shirt is badass!
I've seen this movie a hundred times and I'll watch it a hundred more, I'm sure.
You need to watch Double Impact! Another great Van Damme movie!
