Daemon became who he was with absolute freedom to do what he wants, without worrying about being executed by Visery's, well Aemond had realized how little Visery's would back them up or care for them over Rhaenyra and when it comes down to it, he has no one but his mother who would back them up, so he had to step up. Aemond's transformation may have ended up similar ,but he only took minor interest to Daemon, when they met again in episode 8. By then Aemond was already fully developed, so no, Aemond doesn't wish he was Daemon. He just was preparing for war and correcting his flaws after his engagement with the Rhaenyra's kids, who in fact sparked his change, not Daemon.
Yes, it's clear Aemond is supposed to one of GRRM's recurring in-world archetypes that show up here and there in characters who relate somewhat to old magic & mirror a bit the lord commander who became the night's king, etc.

If Aemond would have won this battle there’s a possibility team greens bloodline would have Inherited the thrown for generations to come.The show is clearly showing that Daemon’s blood is the more superior blood of all current Targaryens in that timeline. He took out vahgar (the second biggest dragon ever) with caraxes while piercing aemonds skull at the same time. One of the most skilled dragon riders in the history of house Targaryen hands down 🙌🏽 viserys I still takes a W as well because technically his bloodline still continues. Daenerys has Daemons blood running through her veins not Aemonds 🤣

Viserys ignoring Rhaenyra's carelessness of having bastard son after bastard son staining his legacy was his first mistake. Him not threatening her claim to the thrown after the first bastard and chastising her about it caused more turmoil than I think would have been if she didn't give birth to Strongs children. I just don't understand how she thought it would be ok.
He was in denial. Much like Tywin Lannister was about the incestuous blood of his grandchildren. But where else would Rhaeynera have gotten children from given her husband's sexuality and clear lack of interest in trying at all.

I'm really interested in where the show takes Aemond. He started out pretty sympathetic; his brother and nephews making fun of him. He even looked like he was about to say something to Luc at the funeral, and he admonishes Aegon for being upset about Heleana. Now, through hard work and determination, he is the most dangerous man in Westeros.
If the Greens had instead won, the story would portray him as a hero. Since the Blacks won, he is shown as a villain. Will definitely be interesting how the show decides to take it. The showdown with Daemon should have the viewers split on who they want to win.
To be fair it was Aemond who took them to a point of no return. His rash decision ended diplomacy of any kind.

I think it was the editors mistake since in the video the shown character was King Viserys I, but he was clearly talking about prince Viserys the son of the mad king and older brother to Daenerys. Probably the editor of the video has shown the wrong character.

You know, Viserys wasn’t a terrible king. Problem was he wasn’t a very good father. The minute his daughter pushed out 2 bastards he should have pulled her to the side and just say “look you lost your claim, don’t try to fight it. I’ll wash this off as they from my blood but your penalty is the throne.” Done lol. Honestly the dance of dragons was the best thing to happen. Imagine if the Danasty ended up with 40+ dragons and 30+ age and body ready dragon riders. All of Westeros would have burned and a lot of those dragons would be huge growing unchecked for years

Isn't it weird as a Targaryen that you're upset your brother and daughter might wanna get it on, but have no issue when your Son and Daughter are gonna ride the same beast? If Incest is Okay it shouldn't matter if it's your brother and daughter or your two kids. Especially since Targaryens often married siblings and close family together.
Viserys did nothing wrong. His Wife and her Father both were the ONLY reason things went the way they did. If the Royal Family wasn't divided, they would've had ALL the dragons and over half the realm. The rest of the 7(6 at this point) Kingdoms wouldn't have done anything at all. Viserys named his Heir. He didn't leave it up to a council. He specifically named his heir, while he was alive, and had lords swear to it.

Most of the realm was fine with it until the Hightowers specifically pushed Aegons claims. How many people would have pushed that claim if the Hightowers themselves supported the rightful heir Rhaenyra? Nobody would've lifted a finger.

The Velaryons would have pushed Viserys's son by Laena as heir just as much as the Hightowers pushed Aegon. That's the whole reason why they wanted him to marry her. You cannot spit on all the traditions and rules of inheritance and expect your subjects not to rebell against your decision. Viserys is not the victim in this, he is the root cause of the conflict.

The line of throne succession should be decided by a competition among king candidates. From the history of westeros, it can be seen that there were multiple people who were solid candidates for the iron throne and the king sometime did not chose the capable heir for the throne. So there should be a competition among throne candidates so that throne candidates could not wage war in the realm for the throne.
Historically, that's the model the Ottoman empire used in the beginning, but it didn't stop civil wars. The loser or his mother wouldn't stop campaigning and plotting. It led to the introduction of fratricide in order to stabilize the situation.

I'm pretty sure Daeron is the baby. Not Aemond. Aemond is the second son. Love it or hate it, had he survived his dual with his Uncle Daemon, Aemond would no doubt have become King, but likely would've been remembered as one of the greatest King's n the history of Westeros. He is a perfect representation of what this universe considers to b worthy of the title. No contest. Daeron being the next closest. Never Aegon II. Had he not fallen at the Trident, much like Jaime Lannister, I believe his character arc would've changed by far for the better amongst us fans of this universe, much like Jaime. While Rhaenyra will become more and more despised, if not out right hated by the masses. I believe the disdain we will gain for Rhaenyra will, no doubt, b complete when we witness the fall of, who will become, if not already is the most beloved Dragon of the series, Syrax. When Syrax falls, I believe that will b the nail n the coffin, as for any support of the Black faction from us fans. Daemon and Ceraxes will have fallen by this point, along with Aemond One-Eye and his Dragon Rockstar, Vhaegar. I believe we will have more love for the Green faction by this point, and witnessing the fall of Rhaenyra will b bitter sweet when the time comes. Much like Cersei. That's just me. All speculation, of course. I am a true fan of this universe, however. So I'm pretty comfortable with my predictions. Considering the constant swaying of loyalty and allegiances of Got. What is interesting is that Viserys I Targaryen
Tells the story that Aegon I had a vision of the White Walkers overtaking Westeros. That is what motivated him in his Conquest. If true, Aegon didn't conquer for Pleasure and Power. He Conquered to save the Realms of Men. To Unite the 7 Kingdoms against the Army of the Dead. Just as Jon Snow did in Game of Thrones.
That is actually a very Heroic and Noble action.
Carrot and stick approach is the best. Aegon the conqueror wasn't all fire and blood, all the time. He used force where diplomacy failed. The most successful Tygeryan kings have been the more conciliatory ones. Like Aemond's grandfather, king Jaeherys.

No by law, the king can change any law that was done and that king said his eldest daughter will rule behind him
Nothing is written in stone. Many times in this story and in real history, the king's or Queen's will has been overturned. It depends on the willingness of all parties involved to play by the rules, especially the alternative heirs and the Lords.
There's also already precedent within the seven kingdoms for eldest trueborn inheritance regardless of gender, as opposed to just male inheritance. Look at Dorne. Inheritance is given to the eldest child, female included, as opposed to going to the eldest male passing over females that are older like other parts of Westeros.
As far as I can see it, Viserys wanted to game the system for his benefit, for just _one_ generation - after Rhaenyra would come her eldest child, *a son* - & with him, things would then progress 'as normal'.
I don't think either Viserys nor Otto were being revolutionary- when Otto was favouring Rhae over Daemon, as heir- it was purely a stopgap for the latter- a measure against Daemon. Difference between them is the tiny 'hidden inheritance' that Otto isn't aware of; he wasn't to know that it was the one thing that Viserys would never give way on- even _after_ he went on to have sons.
@@OcarinaSapphr- it's not so much that he wanted to game the system, it's that he inherited discount Tywin as hand from his grandfather Jahaerys, and Otto thought he was a lot smarter than he actually was, pulling shit to further his own ambitions for a Hightower to sit on the throne, he convinced Viserys to put Daemon in token positions without what Otto thought was too much power bc Otto realized just as many people loved Daemon as thought he was dangerous, and Otto would do whatever he could to prevent Daemon from inheritance, including whoring out his own daughter in the hopes of producing a male heir. When that happened and Viserys didn't name Aegon his official heir, Otto realized if he was going to have his blood sit the throne, he'd have to manipulate Alicent against Rhaenyra and convince her Rhaenyra would kill her and her children. Chances are if not for Otto, Rhaenyra would have been coronated, Alicent and her children would've been fine, maybe Rhaenyra would have ended up marrying Aegon to appease both sides and rule together, and the dragons wouldn't have died. But I'm convinced that along with the political scheming, Otto was involved with the maesters in killing the dragons. Why would someone as sneaky who thought he was so smart not have self interest in killing them to make sure if there ever came a time where a Targ ruler needed to be deposed, that they no longer had access to weapons of mass destruction.
Well I guess in the story it’s a transgression. I can’t see it that way. He was compelled to approach Vhagar, and she accepted him. Seems like that’s the way it was supposed to be. Maybe she didn’t want sniveling brats and the warrior in him attracted her.
If you want to watch a fully accurate summery on House of the dragon/GoT lore then I recommend watching you tubers who's channels are dedicated to the lore and not channels that only focus on the latest movie bc they're never going to get everything right like these yo tubers who put their blood sweat and tears into Westorsi lore
I really don’t care about Aemond, there was countless times when he could have been a better Targaryen if not an interesting one. The only reason why people take interest in him was when he lost his eye but the moment he killed his nephew, nobody cared enough to call out the action.

Aegon the Younger is the rightful king, and it’s telling that he becomes such, George isn’t subverting expectations just for the sake of it, the culmination of the dance is that the wrongs of each side is paid for but that the rightful king still sits the throne. Aemond is perhaps the second most relevant/interesting war character behind Daemon, but he is still an asshole usurper who ultimately loses the first time he is ever faced with a true challenge. What will be interesting is whether or not they treat him as the true evil antagonist or a more “grey” bad guy, he’s obviously going to be portrayed as a villain but the scale will range from “super violent dick who has a point” to “Hitler on fire wings”, really looking forward to it. I personally hope they make him as shitty as possible while doing no favors for the blacks either, this type of war is not supposed to have definitive good and bad guys, I would like to think they understand this and have us siding with Rhaemon purely per Vizzy T’s word (what should be the first and final say!!!) and the fact they are slightly less awful human beings.
