Something I just noticed, unlike most towns in the UK there wasn’t any shops run down and vacant. Maybe they could give us some pointers when it comes to community shopping.
Probably because most of the shops over there are independent small family run businesses. Most of the UK high street are big corporations that only care about profits.

Also, UK councils (usually Labour controlled) charge rates so high that independent people cannot afford to open stores, so we get more & more chains and they in turn become dull. Please try out some Menemen, Iskembe Corbasi or some Kelle Paca for once. Than we can talk about real turkish food. All these Burgers and Berlin kebabs we can get at our locals.

Try Zula at Zorlu shopping centre... the best burgers in Istanbul. Also Bartos in Çengelköy is great.
I also recommend Sehzade Cag Kebab in Sirkeci.
