    My oven caught on fire yesterday due to a bad element so this is how I'll cook my ham this year, THANKS!!!.

    I bought a 16 quart electric roaster--pretty small--and it tasted just like my 7 quart Crockpot and was faster by hours! I've been a loyal Crockpot user all my life but this small electric roaster is so convenient and everything is great, I can bake if I want to. I made biscuits, I tried and tried in the Crockpot and it was a disaster. Cakes came out good in the Crockpot though. But it takes so long, get an Electric Roaster and use it all the time, it's just so convenient. You can use liners like she is in the video, also.

    Great info here. I have a pre-sliced ham and used the included glaze for the topping. Setting the crockpot on low in the morning and coming home from work to a yummy sliced ham was awesome. Not only getting nicely sliced ham for sandwiches, casseroles, etc., I have a ham bone to make broth with beans or anything else I want. This is the way to get the most out of something that I bought on sale ($1.29 per pound) for many delicious meals. Many thanks.

    This is a pre cooked ham. Unfortunately I do not know what the low setting temperature is from my slow cooker. I can tell you that this recipe works best on a whole ham not pre-sliced.

      Jean you will never cook a ham any other way again! I promise! Just make sure it's a whole half ham, not pre-sliced. The pre-sliced in the slow cooker tends to dry out very quickly!

      I got an Oster 16 quart electric roaster, it is the size of a couple of crockpots, and it bakes, and steams, and there is nothing you cannot make in it. I got mine from the Oster site after Christmas and it was 20 bucks so I got two of them. I use a big casserole dish in it so I don't have to clean the inside well often but that's not a big deal, it comes out easily and washes up fast. I dehydrated herbs in it, baked biscuits and pizza, did a shank ham, turkey, burgers, name it. Today I made baked potatoes and added water to it and it was done in 35 minutes and those potatoes were steamed perfect. I made northern bean soup in it using my deep lasagna pan for the beans, man, it was great. The point is, get an electric roaster, and keep it handy and you will use it every day like I do. So handy and mine goes up to 450 degrees!

    Don’t you wash your ham before cooking?

  • @KountryStateOfMind
    @KountryStateOfMind 5 років тому +2

    First off you place the ham on a rack in a large pot on the stove,fill with water bring to a boil. Turn the heat off allow to cool to room temp. Then you remove the ham and rise it off squeezing the ham to release the salt from the pores. Then you put melted butter,brown sugar, honey and vanilla in the bottom of the pot with liner, and stir it well. Now add the ham drizzle with honey and pack the brown sugar on top.Then gather the bag up twist it well and use a twist tie to seal it closed. Makes for a self basting ham! Turn on high setting for 1 hour to bring the ham up to temp, then turn to low for 6 hours. Your ham didn't soak up any of the glaze it was white after the first cut.

    • @ElectroStrong
      @ElectroStrong 7 років тому +10

      Totally agree with personal choice - but I agree with 84sblack - while cleanup is easier, even the best of plastics leech into food. Skip the plastic, it's not needed and you can use water in the slow cooker to soften the remnants so you can use a bristle to remove. Convenient doesn't = healthy for people that eat your food. Change that mentality and the elbow grease is worth it. (and yes, I know this post is over a year old, but for others that come across, it's worth them to have some solid advice as well).

    • @markj3457
      @markj3457 2 роки тому

      Hi there, I think a slow cooker is a very good and safe way to make meat very tender and juicy. Don’t worry about temperature so much. If you cook on high, 6 hours and on low, around 8 hours. Slow cooker’s are basically the same in the world. Don’t forget to baste your meat and check on the liquid, don’t let it dry out.
      Kind regards
      Mark

    • @jakestrauss2776
      @jakestrauss2776 2 роки тому

      An oven can work perfectly as a slow cooker. Usually setting your oven to low will be around 200-225 degrees F, as long as you cover your roasting pan with foil to keep in moisture and to protect the ham from the heat, the connective tissue will be able to break down and the ham will tenderize. It's going to take 8-10 hours to cook, but it's definitely worth it if you want your ham to be tender

  • @Mixwell1983
    @Mixwell1983 5 років тому +1

    I guess if your ham sat too tall you could slice some of the end off as shown or instead of the lid, wrap foil around the top tightly and ditch the lid.
    In your case you didnt have much but if was sticking up way more then perhaps cover with foil and wrapping tight around the rim would work.. Never had to do this but yah just a suggestion.

    I just pull my ham, like pulled pork. It's much easier to serve and doesn't crowd your plate like a big slice of ham does.
