One of the best songs ever written and one of the best bands. Love DD.

YES! YES! Probably the song I played the most in the 80s. Total Duranie. I love that Duran are finally getting recognition. I hope they get into the RRHOF, even if it is Jan Wenner’s sham. Yay, Ty! I can be happy for the rest of the day! 🤣😎

Timeless!Wish i was 16 again. What a magnificent sound and vision.I also got a soft spot on a deepcut from that iconic RIO album.'Lonenly in your nightmare".Loved also the video clip in that abandonded house and the dreamy way Simon was gazing out of the window that passing by mysterious black dressed lady. Also liked his hairdo and dressing code and was quite glad at the time, i had by nature a resemblance to him, though not that tall and glamorous ha!ha!.Did same thing dressed same way same jacket, boots and stuff, lol!Great years,so nostalgic.

One of my favorite groups from the 80's. Their music is magic! Lots of great hits. One of my favorite album cuts by them is called The Chauffeur. There is a music video for this song. Must Hear Good!

Russell Mulcahy did a ton of classic video clips back in the day and was sort of the go to guy for visuals who invented a lot of the techniques people still use in them. Most of the classic Duran Duran clips, Vienna by Ultravox, a bunch of Elton John clips, "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles which is the first clip on MTV, "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes, "Turning Japanese" by the Vapours, "Lots of the Spandau Ballet clips "Pressure" by Billy Joel, "Sex" by Berlin. He's done film and tv and directed the cult classic "Highlander".

Alpha Omega Thanx for the info.Always wanted to search about that guy but always escaped my mind. Those iconic clips gave a boost to DD's career.Clicked so perfectly to their soundscape.

I'm a hard rock fan but can appreciate a well crafted pop song. Serious from 2009 shows they can still turn out a catchy tune

I used to play this for my mother in the 80s and comically sing it with very bad translation to Swedish, and she loved it 🤣❤

Mature outlook on a mature song. I think sonny boy hit the nail on the head. He has a good ear for excellent, understated production, which Rio is full of. That's why that entire album and particularly this song stand the test of time. Don't forget to tell him that these guys were in their late teens to early 20s creating this record! I honestly can't wait to hear what he thinks of The Chauffeur. BTW, there actually was a key synth sound in this song, but it was just so expertly woven within the song that it didn't come across as that overbearing 80s synth sound. Oh is it there tho.

What is to be said about both song and that exotic video? As Alpha Omega hinted that guy(Russel Mulcahy) did a series of lil masterpieces back then, that looked even more fantastic to our teenage eyes. And stood the test of time.I'ld suggest you revisit DDuran doing the iconic, luxurious-tropical clip "RIO".Also "THE REFLEX" was a big hit there, too. Both are impressive and instantly catchy for listeners of any age i think.

Their videos went beyond teenage eyes as they won two Grammy Awards for their videos.

@@edwardf103 Yes of course! And so well deserved. And a couple of them were quite "adult" and erm...quite "saucy"lol! But many of us that consisted their record buying public, were living in that teenage period(12-17yrs old).So we usually tend to be more emotionally attached to their early legacy cause of the age that we were at the time. And we cherish tenderly that real time experience. It happens with every generation. So physically.

As a kid I watched the early "tropical videos" on MTV and yes like really elevated the band for me, very Indiana Jones vibe to a young teenager like me. 😎😎

The intro and sequence that runs through the whole song is a Fairlight C.M.I. IIx. The Fairlight also does all the weird pitch changes at the outro and end. The other keyboards are a Prophet 5 during the chorus. The other synthesizer used during the verses is the Roland Jupiter-8. The main difference between the 1rst Duran Duran album and Rio was the addition of the Fairlight C.M.I. The rim shot sound is the Simmons SDS-V electric drum kit

Always enjoy your reactions. Nice to have two generations react to Duran Duran! Keep it going. What a beautiful song and beautiful video. The Chorus was influenced by Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind," which also influenced "Hungry Like The Wolf."
