Essex and proud since 1980 huge band all round the world. Yet if you were to ask youngsters from there home town in Essex basildon who they were, they wouldn't have a clue a lot of them.
This track was released in 87 & has forever since been a live favourite. They had their first hit in 81 but are still making great new music today & have had nearly 50 hits in the UK. You really need to see them live & enjoy the live experience. They have a huge fanbase who know all the words to all their songs so by the time of this concert they all sing along & show how brilliant the band are.
Bought their black vynl record, listened to it, I fell in luv with the song...reeling in ma mind whenever I saw the Horn speakers "Music for the Masses" bck then..almost 35 yrs ago...I even liked their record label "Mute records" logo...portraying a walking individual top view.
My late husband was a big Depeche Mode fan and I still treasure the vinyls he left behind . I still see him over 30 years ago dancing to this song in his baby blue sweater his grandmother made him, his cheeky grin and his messy hair. Life changed so much, but music takes us back to some very dear places and memories. 🥰
Also I love Depeche Mode and Dave a lot, but his voice wasn’t his strongest in this performance. I saw them live ones, so I know he must have had just “a moment “ 😜. I know, I’m spoiled when it come to live performances 😇
I’m incredibly sorry for your loss but it seems you have those incredible memories. Always hold onto those. Yes music can be a powerful nostalgic reminder. Many blessings to you.
Depeche Mode is massively international. The perfect sync between the blues GROOVE and synth rock. Depeche Mode fricken' ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...breath...OOOOCKS!
I’ve been a fan of DM since 83, the first time I saw them live was their “Black Celebration” tour, and every time I’ve seen them it’s like the first time. They are so exhilarating live, they’ve been going for 40+ yrs and I hope they keep going, they’ve meant so much to so many.
Rewatching this very interesting reaction ❤. I know I couldn't be hypnotized either lol.. My twin sisters loved Depeche Mode so they took me to see their concert once. I gotta say it was very exciting. The whole crowd was very engaged. Fun night.
Also they really haven't stopped yet! They can still sell out anywhere. Even though Fletch, the guy who played the synths died! I didn't expect them to go on after that but they wrote a whole album and are touring on it. It's called Momento Mori!
This is the most trance-like of all DM:s songs, hence even really long mixes (I have a 15 min vinyl bootleg somewhere, Very Extended Flying High Mix) don’t become boring, just more suggestive.
Love watching your reaction! Enjoy the Silence is my #1, mostly because that’s what hooked me. But this song, when Dave starts the ‘arm wave’ I get goosebumps each time still…..
Depeche Mode has been my FAVORITE band since they started in 1980. Still going strong.....dozens of hit songs...deep, tribal indeed....no finer dance / trance electronica. Pioneers in the genre.
Hey Anton... I'm 48 y/o and i'm a big fan of DM since i was 15. The best «Never Let Me Down Again» live version is at the Pasadena RoseBowl for the 101 tour. Amazingly intense and emotional !!
The first big concert that I went to was in Copenhagen, 1990. Depeche Mode, on their "Violation tour". I was in my teens and my parents barely let me go on that show. I live in southern Sweden and it was 1,5-2 hour drive to Copenhagen (no bridge back then). Me and my friend got together with a bunch of fans from our home town and got there in a rental bus... It was a blast!! This band was huge at the time.
I wish I had done something like that back then to see them live! I live in central Arkansas, and unless the tour came to Little Rock, I wasn’t going. I didn’t have the type of parents who were going to drive me three hours to Memphis or 5+ hours to Dallas for a concert. Then after I turned 18 in 1993 it seemed like every time I’ve been on tour there’s been something that’s kept me from being able to go make a trip to Dallas, The nearest they come. Until finally at the beginning of April I saw them in San Antonio which is a 9 hour drive, but I’m so freaking glad I did! Holy crap they were every bit as awesome as ever!
I've been a fan for 43 years and every time I see them in concert I turn around in the stadium and look at the crowd waving their arms. It's a thing of being. I'm thinking this is where the wave began during a concert setting. I suggest, Stripped from the Devotional tour or the music video, Shake the Disease, Wrong, World in My Eyes.
Great analysis of the song! In 2006 they headlined Coachella and I was closer to the stage. At the end of Never Let Me Down when everyone starts waving their arms, I looked back to see 90,000 people all waving in near synchronization. It was amazing!
I just love how DM has been doing this with this song for YEARS. It's become a routine. So.. when you are at a concert there is this anticipation and when this song hits, it's feeling part of a big whole who all love DM. And that is coming from an individual who hates groups. BUT.. when in the right crowd, with the right people.. I am more willing to let go of the 'errr this is weird'. I was at the concert in Antwerp in May, very first concert ever that I went to (remember I hate groups), and when that song hit I knew what would happen, I had seen it on UA-cam... I started swinging my arms thinking "oh shit my armflabs... .... girl NOBODY cares about your armflabs". *snort and then I just enjoyed that feeling of "we all love this, we all wanna do this, this is fun!" It's one of the best parts of their concert, to be honest. :)
I'm a big Depeche Mode fan for like a decade. But for some reason I didn't like this song that much until a year ago. Then something clicked in my head, and this is my favorite DM's song ever.
DM always plays this song on there tours it is an amazing sight to see. Dave started the wave on there 101 tour. The performance at The Rose Bowl is a sight to see playing in front of 80,000 fans
I don't believe this song is about Herion since this song came out in 87 and Dave's drug problem was in the early -mid 90's. I believe it is about a relationship being in love and never wanting it to end. Barrel Of A Gun by DM i believe is about Herion since it was recorded during Dave's dark days also Martin was going through his drinking problems. It was also the album that almost didn't happen because all the internal problems
I saw them in 2017 for.the third time. I've been a fan for 40 years. Dave is my second favorite front man. Till Lindemann from Rammstein is my favorite one.Just saw them twice last year. And the energy at either concert is phenomenal to say the least.
Yes, you are right. If you have a repetition in music, the music starts to cirkulate around you in the hall - especcialy if the hall is round. It works as a tibetan bowle. Linkián Parku used to do the same in their song. And U2 or Muse and some other bands. Only 30 seconds to Mars bring real tibetan bowle to use it. It was so powerfull that I wanted to back through to back wall to escape it. That´s why Depeche Mode wrote the song Black Celebration because their concert is just like a mass in church of music. For Depeche Mode concert is good to go somewhere upside just to watch and enjoy the participation of audience.
Yes i am a big DM fan, i have even bought tickets to there consert in Stockholm in may but what i am suprised about is that you have never reakted to Roxette real sugar, its so good one.
My all time FAVORITE band. I get to see them this November. Thank you for doing them. This song is a spiritual gives me chills everytime I hear it. Soooo sexy as well. ❤❤❤❤🤘🤘🤘🤘 Watch The Rose Bowl live version of this song
I saw Depeche Mode live back in 1988 for the Music for the Masses tour, they were amazing. (BTW, it's not DEE-pesh mode, it's more like di-PESH mode.) 😊

Depeche Mode Live are so much better than the Audio versions , Useless is one of my favourites but there's so many up there with that track for me Barrel of a gun & It's no good just to name a few

Hi from Australia, you and Dereck are my two favourite music reactionaries. You both may or may not know each other, out of all the reactionaries I watch, only you and Dereck get so lost in the music, your facial expressions and the body movements 😂 Here's Dereck's latest if your interested. I told Dereck about you as well lol ua-cam.com/video/nyeVEH6AFUc/v-deo.html
Depeche Mode were not nearly as good in the 2000s (live) as they were in the early 90s. I would recommend the studio version or Depeche Mode 101 if the main purpose is to listen to the song, this is great crown interaction, but from a vocal point of view, this rendition is not nearly as good as when it was performed a decade earlier.
Year they e amazing ❤
Essex and proud since 1980 huge band all round the world. Yet if you were to ask youngsters from there home town in Essex basildon who they were, they wouldn't have a clue a lot of them.
No one has more fun at a Depeche Mode concert than the singer, Dave Gahan
and the funny thing, he had sooooo much fear to stand on stage...^^ if you dont believe, look the docu over depeche mode...^^
So much fun that he even had a heart attack once on stage😂
@@lucasglowacki4683 I can't see how a heart attack is funny.

They have another song called People are People that was a huge hit for them in the 80s.
Heard this song first time over 35 years ago
Dave has always wanted to be like Bowie and he puts so much energy into every performance!
Also they really haven't stopped yet! They can still sell out anywhere. Even though Fletch, the guy who played the synths died! I didn't expect them to go on after that but they wrote a whole album and are touring on it. It's called Momento Mori!

Somehow this song gives me chills that start in my legs, then it moves up my back!
Epic. I wish I would have been there. ❤ DM forever
They were really huge in the 80s and part of the New Wave Movement like Duran Duran.
Depeche Mode is my church. 🖤
if you want to get hypnotized
Depeche forever!🖤 Thanks this reaction, good bye from Hungary!🔴⚪🟢
❤️❤️❤️Depeche Mode! I'm 51 and I'm bringing my 22 year old daughter to see them in a couple of months!!!
I've never heard this song before.
Growing up in the 70’s n 80’s I got to listen to some great music ❤

Maybe the perfect Depeche Mode' s NLMDA live, wonderful !!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I have to say, after 2 live concerts, this has and ever wil be my fav song....
DM is Amazing
Depeche Mode IS hypnotic!!!;)
This is bottom line the most religious experience you’ll get at a concert I love them so much for this and most of their catalog
This is the most trance-like of all DM:s songs, hence even really long mixes (I have a 15 min vinyl bootleg somewhere, Very Extended Flying High Mix) don’t become boring, just more suggestive.

DM are known for their extensive amount of remixed versions of their releases. There's bound to be a version for you.
That little dance interlude part is actually taken from "Never Let Me Down Again (Aggro Mix)," which was a remix on the 12"/cassette/CD singles.

Yes, you are right. If you have a repetition in music, the music starts to cirkulate around you in the hall - especcialy if the hall is round. It works as a tibetan bowle. Great song about drug and drug abuse. I would suggest reacting to their song Shame. It is not as well-known as many of their songs but very deep.

No this was written before 1993-1996 when Dave had big problems with drugs. It came out 1987.
