Finally - 16 inch, 4k, touchscreen: I've been waiting so long for something like this! ...to me, 16 inch is ideal, in terms of not hogging my desk and being (sort of!) portable: looking forward to your full review :)
Imo, i also like 16 initially, but now that i have it (innovator16) , it's bulky, im considering a smaller one now
i love how in depth with your reviews always are, even the smallest observations really helps me when researching tablets!
And this isn't even his actual review, that comes later!
Thank you for your thorough reviews of this and other tablets. After a lot of consideration I bought this device, and I’m really looking forward to receiving it.
Always a delight to watch your videos. I'd like to see you do a drawing tutorial of the vehicle in the video and how you coloured it. Thanks again
I was waiting for your review 🙊✨
Great stuff. Thinking of purchasing this.
Looks amazing!
The art on the box looks cool!
there is a lot to improve on their product .. thanks for the review it was helpful
I like the parblo stand 😯
Hi Teoh ! Thank you for all your thorough reviews, they really help a lot ! I had a question about this new XP-Pen tablet, regarding Sai (which is my main program for work). I was wondering if the pen sensitivity works well with this new 16TP (without too much pilot reboot and windows ink touch-ups). I'm also curious about the touch feature, I'm not sure Sai can handle gestures and thus I'm not sure I need to invest in a pen&touch tablet, if I can't use gestures in my main program. Thank you so much !
Thank you for the review! Those two cables sticking out from the top is such a deal breaker
If you can use USB-C, the L-shape cables will go to the side. But if you use HDMI then one of the cable will stick out. It doesn't look nice but not really a deal breaker
I'm currently reviewing this tablet as well and that might be a deal breaker for my too unfortunately, I have a vertical dual monitor setup y__y
@@Finchwing What work do you do to require vertical setup for both monitors?
Hi Teoh! Love your reviews and videos btw. Just a question, which would be better in your opinion, The Huion Kamvas 22+ or this XP-Pen you are reviewing?
In terms of value for money, the cheaper one is better because nowadays drawing performance for most pen displays are quite good already. So the main question here is whether you need 4K and touchscreen
@@teohyc : Type of art. e.g. pixel.
I would love for the 4K touch display that is for example 22’ or 24’. But we will see in the future. Maybe the companies are testing the waters with those products. They are not cheap to make. Glad you made this review Teoh, your channel is my favorite for detailed reviews that takes artist perspective to the account.
Those first batches are going to be expensive that's for sure
can you mention in the full review whether it heats up? like with all the function maybe it might heat up??
Nice review) Tablet looks great, interesting to try. 🤗Very good company, I worked with 22E Pro tablet during 1 year, after that bought Wacom Cintiq Pro 24, and very interesting to compare new 16 TP XP Pen with Wacom CIntiq Pro models (16 or 24) - i guess that soon they will release 22 or 24TP )
Hi, nice review, so it can detect finger touch right?
Great video! I was curious about this tablet when I first saw it get released. Yet again, I learned a lot from this! (Even if I'm not gonna buy it at all 😅
Can you please compare it to the Huion 4K model?
Thanks Teoh for the impressions.
This product is more exciting and innovative than the Huion 4K. The XP-Pen is so close to a Wacom display tablet with 4K, multi-touch, and a digital eraser on the end of the pen. That digital eraser can probably be adjusted in the software menu and could be used for other functions like smudging/blending.
yes, though Huion has better pen performance
@@ajtatosmano2 Maybe. But we won’t know until it’s fully reviewed. I really like the Huion Pentech 3.0. I have the Kamvas13 which I use primarily as a screen less tablet. The Pentech 3.0 is fantastic as it’s accurate and unlike previous Huion pens the PW517 has little spring, allowing better pressure control, and more like a Wacom pen.
Finally!!! Its real!!!!
Good Review..
Cool product. Good preview. But I'm not sure about the touch aspect.
One of the best things about, say, the Artist Pro 16, is perfect palm rejection. Now they've potentially reintroduced palm effects. Trying to do things on my laptop, for example, was frustrating because the display had a strong tendency to register my palm or sometimes fingers. That was what drove me to pen displays in the first place. It looks cool to be able to zoom, grab, rotate, etc. with fingers but I'm not sure yet if it's worth it.
4K resolution is crazy at this size. Amazing considering XP-Pen's larger displays only reach up to "2K" resolution. I think the killer app for this resolution will be a 22" or 24". I'm sure that's coming, but it won't come cheap. And it had better be laminated.
I do like the idea of scaling the interface of the drawing program to exactly double (in each dimension) so you can still actually use the interface. But maybe 1.5x makes more sense when the 22" or 24" comes out.
I wish the pen had a more tapered-out shape toward the tip. I also prefer the pen on my cheap 6.5x4 non-display Gaomon tablet -- personally the grippier rubber works better for me. I also counter-weight both pens using triple-looped small hair ties and the rubber grip sleeve from a Pentel EnerGel 0.7 gel pen -- putting these at the other end of the tablet pen just makes it feel a bit more substantial without adding too much weight or clumsiness.
It's interesting that this TP requires dual cords for full brightness / function. Not a problem with my desktop machine but could be for some users.
I wish the Artist Pro 16 had the same sort of insane responsiveness that my cheap Gaomon tablet does. The Gaomon registers the very lightest of light touches and it makes it feel ultra-responsive and gives a lot of control. I love being able to draw directly OR use the Artist Pro like a non-display tablet (with my hand out of the way) by looking at my left main monitor (when I'm using duplicate mode that is), but it does require significantly more pressure before it starts registering a stroke (yes I've adjusted the sensitivity many times). But maybe all display pads are like that vs. non-display ones.
Finally, I think it's too bad this comes without function buttons, considering the Artist Pro 16 has 8+1 dial and their larger model has 20+2 dials! I'm sure it was necessary to keep the price under control, and of course you can still use a keyboard or smaller dedicated input keypad. But they probably need to go all out on the 22" or 24" or whatever comes next.
You make many good points.
As for palm rejection, it actually comes down to the app you use. There are certain apps that will have perfect palm rejection because they only take pen input, but they will still allow for finger gestures. Basically, they don't register single taps from fingers/palm.
As for 4K, well, it's an additional option compared to the 1080P model. 4K on 15.6-inch display is a good combination. 4K should work well up to maybe 24 inch (1080P on 24-inch used to be the popular combo). 1440P (1.5x) UI scaling on 24 inch may be a bit small.
For 1440P, I recommend at least 25 to 27-inch displays.
Yeah, pen tablets are usually more sensitive than pen displays even if they market the same level of pressure sensitivity. Initial activation force for pen tablets are incredibly low.
thx ...for Review...
is it a multitouch pressure sensitiv display.....
Great video! For the full review, could you expand upon the smallest pressure needed to register a stroke? In particular, I would like to take handwritten notes on a regular basis, but have noticed that with my XP-PEN Artist 15.6 Pro, I need to put a lot more force than is natural for me to comfortably write (for drawing though, it's mostly fine). As a point of reference, both the iPad and Wacom Intuos/Cintiq allow me to comfortably write using very little force. Thanks!
I would love to see Wacom answering to Xp-pen and Huion with the release of a cimtiq 16 2k with laminated display at lower price than them.
Honestly I would love to see these tablets coming with a cable display port to usb-c bi-directional. Most serious GPUs from the previous generations, which still make an excellent job, don't have a type c port. Like a rtx2060 or 2070 which can actually handle 4k 60hrz easily.
Thank you for all your amazing videos 👍🏼
The cables should be reversible. They fit. But for some reason, when transferring power, they are not reversible.
i used a shitty cheap usbc to usb cable on my huion kamvas 16 (2021) and it works normally, just get a good brand cable. no need to wait for them to start manufacturing those cables, they wont.
@@PedroRodrigues-fh1ku those GPU I mentioned don't have a usb door and if we are talking of 4k or 2k than display port is the best, specially on a full pc desktop that can actually handle 4k.
The kamvas 16 2021 is HD by the way, it's a different story running it with normal cables compared to 4k or 2k.
@@bersk8 I didn't know that, so we can't connect 2k/4k monitors on the motherboard through usb? My huion is FHD , I was able to use a usbc to usb caqble and conect it on my usb port on the pc. I'm about to buy a 2k monitor, I have oly one HDMI port on my GPU
@@PedroRodrigues-fh1ku if you want to actually make use of the power of your GPU then it must be connected to the GPU, specially for 4k 60hrz. That's why I would like to have those pen displays with a display port door, display port is basically the standard for GPUs
finally i have been hoping for them to do something like this since BOSTO released their touchscreen tablet but they are not as strong as Xp-pen. Does it support Android and if it does, does the touch gestures work on Android?
Hi Teoh.
Thank for the review
In official website, the pendisplay can working with android to.
Will touch screen still work while connected to android?
I think to buy one to work with my dex :)
Thanks for your answer.
Thanks for your great videos. I would like to know, if you paint and draw and you don't have a big budget, what do you buy, this tablet, an Ipad pro or samsung galaxy 7+ or the others samsung that we are waiting very soon? Thank you again
If it’s mostly for drawing and design, get iPad. If you want to do more, eg computer stuff, get Tab S7 or S7+
Full review pls 🙏 with using csp plssss 🙏
Please can you test how pressure sensitive the eraser is
Teoh, the cables connected above is very unsightly, what do you think? you prefer the huion 4k?
Unsightly probably but they don't affect work
Hi Teoh which is better Huion 4k or Xp pen 4k?
Is there a way to improve the light pressure lines?
Does wearing a glove prevents your palm from drawing? And does the touch gestures, especially zoom and pan, work in Ps, An or other major drawing software (CSP, krita, tv pain)?
I would really like to be able to use gestures in Ps without having to shell 2000 for a cintiq, but I also wonder if it is any good (lets say compared to ipad or samsung tablet) since I've heard even on the Cintiq is kinda broken.
Using the glove would really help prevent the stray strokes and you can still use finger gestures.
You can use all the finger gestures with Adobe drawing apps, CSP, Krita
I just looked up the price and it costs roughly the same price as my cintiq 16
Any word on if and when a 24 pro version will be released? Man I hope they keep the bezel buttons and dials.
The release is imminent
@@teohyc That's exciting I just hope they don't muck with the design of the current 24 Pro. Don't need touch or tv remotes. Just a better screen and hopefully improved drivers.
Would it be possible to check the palm rejection with a glove as well? A test side by side with or without glove on how many strays occur? I usually work with a glove, and if there are still strays with it, I'll hold out on it.
Gloves will help with palm rejection. However some apps accept only pen input so those apps will have perfect palm rejection. Medibang is not one of them.
Can you see if you put the glove on, the extra marks from your palms are not there?
Gloves will have palm rejection. Anyway, many drawing apps can choose to accept only pen input and hence will have perfect palm rejection, except Medibang (Win)
How does this tablet compare to the Huion Kamvas Pro 16 4K Plus in terms of brightness and colors? Does Huion's tablet have worse colors despite having a higher color gamut due to the anti-glare screen?
What's your personal preference between the 2 tablets? Especially regarding your drawing experience between the glossy slidy screen vs the matte grainy one
There will be a comparison video soon. But bottomline is Huion's pen has better sensitivity, hence accuracy. Huion's display is also less slippery and nicer to draw on.
@@teohyc Thank you very much Teoh :)
I really appreciate that you take the time to help all of us like that
Very nice, though I prefer having shortcut keys.
For the same price I'd probably buy the Xppen 24 artist pro with 2k resolution.
Me too! But uts nice to see XP-Pen starting to go this direction
The 1440P is actually better for productivity due to the resolution and scaling combo. This 4K uses 1080P scaling so it has less canvas space than 1440P
@@teohyc please brief me about display scaling. Recently bought my kamvas 16 2021, and when connected to my laptop which has 1366x768 resolution with display duplicate option, kamvas 16 screen doesn't look that sharp, but when I opt for display extension, the kamvas goes full sharp 1080p resolution.
@@bhatta.gourisankar If you use mirror mode, the Kamvas will follow your laptop resolution. But when you use extended display, you can choose the resolution for the Kamvas (default is 1080P)
How fair does this model stand against the Innovator 16?
It’s better in terms of colour, brightness, resolution and it has a touchscreen.
Which tablet is better Huion Kamvas Pro 16 4k or this X Pen 4k?
Drawing performance is kinda similar. Huion has a textured surface but no touchscreen. XP-Pen has a touchscreen but screen is way smoother without much texture.
If you also want to use Windows tablet apps, touchscreen allows you to use those apps. E.g. Concepts, Autodesk Sketchbook, Sketchable are not user friendly even with keyboard and a normal pen tablet.
Touch is a game changer. It's a key difference between Cintiq Pro and other pen displays. Way to close the gap...
But there's no dial, why remove the dial
@@dawnpaoloabes6513 probably to keep the price down, its already quite an expensive tablet
Is there other drawing tablet similar to this one? Like from different brands?
Only other brand with touchscreen is Wacom
Medibang I think has an option to turn off finger drawing input so it does touch gestures only.
Desktop Medibang doesn't have that option.
@@teohyc weird. I'm using medibang on a Samsung Windows tablet PC and I'm getting all the gestures, won't let me draw with my fingers. I could have swore that was based on an option but now I can't find it in the settings. Either way I'm not dealing with stray marks.
Did you think about buying a screen protector? Would rather be careful cause I hate scratching the screen with the pen.
2. Do you have to keep it plugged to an outlet or charge it like a phone?
This is basically like an ipad but bigger & costs the same as my 10.5.between those twoI rather choose the iPad since I can browse the Internet in my hand.
It’s been my dream to buy a pen display but I only have 1 functioning laptop sadly. This is a really good display but the battery is a let down...
The glass shouldn't be easy to scratch.
No charging require because there's no battery. But it's a monitor so you still need to connect it to an external power source.
Really curious as to how you set it up, I recently got the tablet and the newest driver but have several calibration and display issues like the pen being horizontally displaced and such. My PC is absolutely fine and I want to get right into using it but all the technical issues prevent me from fully enjoying it :(
What do you mean by horizontally displaced?
@@teohyc it was a calibration issue that caused the tracking to be off by a large margin to the left, but I just found out I can fix that through the calibration setting. Now im having issues getting the tablet to consistently connect and am seeing "No Signal" errors despite it working just the other day and I swapped around every different USB and HDMI connection on my pc I had. A lot of the time my monitor 1 screen will just flicker and make the connection noises but not actually connect to the 2nd tablet display monitor.
@@doppio_9983 If your computer has USB-C, use USB-C. Try to reverse the cables and test. Make sure to use one other cable for power.
Is it working now, I'm thinking about buying one as well🤔
@@midollafun Unfortunately no, I got in contact with xp pen support and they are sending me replacement wires now but I doubt it is a wire issue and is the tablet instead, in which case after I contact them again if the wires don't work I'll have to ship it back and wait for the replacement tablet...it doesn't help that its all shipping from China either since it took almost a month to arrive the first time too :(
Can you connect this on some pc?
how bigger is it compared to the ipad pro 12.9 / Samsung galaxy s7 plus?
Noticeably bigger. It’s almost same size as 15 inch laptop
@@teohyc thank you so much for your reply, have u tried it with android?
Can you run it at 2k instead of 4k? I know 4k at 19" was TINY on the Huion 19.
2K as in 2560 x 1440? That will look tiny on a 16-inch, and quite small on a 19-inch.
i don,t understand, they release a product for mac osx without touch features working at all?
MacOS just don't have touch support because Apple don't want to add that
can you test Affinity photo, Clip studio paint and Paintstorm pro in depth? i feel like i can barely draw circles and can hardly hatch in paintstorm, and AP and Clip seem to be able to pick up pen motions without issue for the most part so far. but i would like you to look at those apps in depth.
Unfortunately I no longer have this unit to test. Try testing with Medibang Paint too which usually performs really well. Performance is sometimes very much dependent on the app you use.
@@teohyc thats a shame. i just got one myself and paintstorm the latest version was working fine on my old tablet but on this new one its having trouble keeping up. thanks for replying anyway man. IG ill just have to wait for the developers to update paintstorm so i can keep using it. but yea, medibang runs p damn smooth too. i have no issues drawing circles fast or hatching with it so far.
@@teohyc I isolated my issue: on win 10, my setting in windows ink was to blame: "use pen as mouse in certain desktop apps" after i turned that off, paintstorm studio was registering quick circles and hatching. so if a windows user has that problem with paintstorm, that setting is probably why. im so happy i can use paintstorm again!
@@tenacioustan2386 Oh yeah, I forgot about Windows Ink. It's quite a common thing with Windows Ink messing the pressure or contributing to sluggish performance
I really don't get why the Xp-Pen nibs have a little movement to them when you press them to the screen. It's easy to get used to but I just don't get why it's that way. Wacom and Huion don't seem to have that.
It's something real easy to get used to
I prefer the movement to be honest. Feels more like a real pencil compared to my Wacom, but I can see how it's annoying to some.
How does it perform with diagonal straight lines ? Does it wobble ?
No wobble. Diagonal line jitter/wobble usually affect those tablets (eg Windows or Android) and not pen displays.
Wat a touch feature plus 4k display plus a pen with rubber :0 did i make a wrong choice of buying my tablet earlier becz i was inpatient 🗿but its only 16 inch 😐i really like the box becz its kinda cool to open it and that pen case 🥺 too . Still they sure made big changes like adding a touch feature which huion doesn't have yet .
Touchscreen is nice to have. But not having it is not a major downside, unless you use Windows tablet apps.
I love using the Concepts app and it’s just not usable with keyboard and pen tablets.
@@teohyc thank u for your reply (^^) yeah its not major problem to not have touch feature but since i come from using ipad lol i always do that undo gesture and zooming on my non touch feature tablet >.< lol 😆
I got impatient too and bought kamvas 16 2021 15 days ago. And now looking at this I got bit jealous, but yes I cudnt hv afford it and touch n 4k doesn't look that important for me as of now. 😇
bro, how many displays or tablets do you have?
The ones that I use are BenQ SW2700PT, iPad Pro 12.9 and Samsung Tab S7+, two external portable 15.6 inch monitors.
What shook me was that the pen had an eraser 😂
But in all seriousness, good review, wish I could get this
Does anyone know when it will be available for Ubuntu, I mean it supports android. but not Linux
Are there anyways to use it. Could I use a tested exe runner on Linux or so.
It's best to ask the company
good lord that bezel, it look like one of those 2010 tablets
Those are for your palms to rest on when you click on things at the extra edge. And when you're drawing near the edge, your hands don't just fall off.
@@teohyc yeah but ipad doing just fine with thin bezels.
does it support csp?
So it's okay actually that I got my kamvas 16 2021 in much lesser price and it works great.
Great, lets see if your huion tablets last after three years.
@@srvk9274 don't they ?
"This video is not sponsored, but xyz company did send me this to review and i will be honest" is biggest scam in you tube. I have used wacom, 2 huion and now happy with xp pen. As per my experience- wacom is over rated. They make products for disney commissioned people and likes where price doesnt matter. Price to performance ratio doesnt apply to them.
2. Huion is quick to give latest technologies but cuts price in softwares, hardwares and drivers hence hitech technology at cheap price without durability is issue. (A tablet with lamination, etch glass , 2k resolution etc with span of two years.
XP- pen at last gives reliability, have strong customer care, products are built to last, hence they are always last to give features as cost cutting method. They were last to adopt battery less pen, usb c connection, still have no products that uses etch glass and rely on AG film. Larger displays arent even laminated.
@@srvk9274 I hope the Huion lasts for 5 yrs atleast. Then I can upgrade to xp-pen 4k . Tanks for your remarks. 🙏
does this work with Zbrush and Blender?
Yes
I have been waiting on a tablet like this. I miss using Sai i hope it supports it. If not thats fine im used to CSP
Does the innovator has touch screen ?
How is this device compared to Huion Kamvas 16" Pro(4k)? Also, does the screen scratch easily, do you suggest to buy a separate screen protector? Thank you!
Huion drawing performance is slightly better but unless you have two side by side to compare you can't tell. No screen protector is needed because the drawing surface is glass
@@teohyc I see, thank you very much!
Finally a non-Wacom that has touchscreen support.
It’s ashamed that the touch functionality is not featured on the MacOS systems. Which is a massive blow to Mac users. Oh well, at least it’s a 4K portable little device
If Apple supports touchscreen with MacOS, those iPad users will bitch non-stop (and they already do) about how the iPad doesn’t have MacOS
Want 😂
Nobody cares about 4k on a 16 inch screen. It just unnecessarily increases the price. It could've been 2k and cheaper
They have that 2K pen display but currently without touchscreen.
11:50 ++ OMG, why??? I am out.
so 900 bucks for a screen and a pen.
