    I know this is months later, but you should set your display settings on any 4k tablet that is less than 27" to 200% "text, app size".
    World of a difference and you keep the 4k :D

    Subscribed! This is one of the better videos showcasing the 2 products but I like that you took the time and energy to cut to close ups of the part you're talking about which a lot of reviewers don't care to do, even with an awesome camera/lighting rig but they just stay stuck to one or two tripod shots with the occasional stock product showcase. Subscribed just for that and the great comparison point!
    Thanks and keep em coming!

    Hey Taylor, thanks for yr review. I have the Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (4k) Plus version and I'm only a beginner in this area and so far I am very happy with it, but like you mentioned I haven't used a Wacom, in NZ we can't get the Wacom 16 4k, but the Wacom Pro 24, 4k is $4600, so the Kamvas Pro 16 4k is a great starting point. For me, learning to paint digitally has really opened my eyes to the possibilities, I wish I had done it a lot earlier. I am using it to learn to paint Landscapes, the colours are really nice, it's well built, no gaps, or squeaks etc, it's very thin and it has the IPS Fully Laminated screen with etching for anti-glare and works well in my area. The Pen feels great and the response is fast and I can not see any Parallax at all, and Pen Pressure feels and looks consistent. I use the USB-C cable from Display into my Video card USB-C.
    One thing is strange to me and that is it came with HDCP turned off, and I thought that was compulsory, and the weird thing is that there is no way to enable it that I can find, either on the Kamvas or on my Nvidia RTX video card that I can find, and nvidia support are looking at that. So overall I am really happy with it as my first Pen Display. Thanks, Cheers Kev

    • @TaylorStine
      @TaylorStine  3 роки тому +4

      Wow $4,600?? That is some crazy mark up! It's good to hear you also enjoy the Kamvas Pro 16, it really is an awesome tablet for the price. The colors on the Plus version are probably really helpful for digital painting (I'm starting to get into this too, and I can see how having a really good color range is important).
      That's interesting about the HDCP, I didn't realize that and had to look it up to learn more. One thing I wonder is if the type of cable you're using supports it -- I've found that it's almost completely dumb luck how successful USB-C cables are when it comes to transmitting video data. I've used cables that are supposed to be able to carry 4k signal, but for some reason only gave me 1080p 🤷.
      Thanks for watching!

    Love the discussion of these new tablet. I have the Cintiq 24 HD (2014) and, while pretty good, it's MASSIVE! It's actually *32* inches across despite the screen being 24. It's heavy too. I've been thinking of the Wacom 22 as a replacement but your last video def changed my tune quickly! Was curious on the Huion 16 4K ver but your XP-Pen 24 thoughts have also got me intrigued. I hope you make more tablet discussion videos that feel real and genuine like these, they are very helpful and really straight to the point.

      So happy I helped! It's a tough choice between the Huion/XP Pen. I will say this- I absolutely loved the fact that I could keep the 16" Kamvas on my desk without it taking up the whole thing. The 24 inch Cintiq pro really isn't practical for the size desk I have, and while I'm doing my "real" job it's just unused space.

    Hi, thanks for this review :)
    I was wondering about the latency. On other review, it looks pretty high. As you didn't mentioned it, I assumed it didn't bother you. But in my experience, latency play a big part on comfort and "real drawing on paper" feel.

    • @TaylorStine
      @TaylorStine  3 роки тому +3

      I just double checked, and didn't experience any latency. But I'm wondering if this is a result of the system that the tablet is being used on -- if I use a huge canvas size or sculpt on a model with a ton of verts I do notice that there is a little lag. The chainsaw model in this video started to get really big by the end, but I still didn't see any lag.

    My software library is quite limited, but I did get my xp-pen software to assign different shortcuts to both CSP and MSPaint. I just added another program to the list and it instantly worked. Hardware wise I'm using the 15.6, but it should be all the same.
    Either way, excellent review/comparison. Absolutely loved the way in which you presented information and showed that, unless you were directly comparing specs, you would never really notice some details. I figure it can be a little too easy to get lost trying to balance out and quantify each and every feature something offers when those numbers might not really translate to any tangible difference.
    And thank you for elaborating on the 4k resolution. I was in doubt whether to get a 16'' 4k for the extra space with the reduced UI elements or a 22'' 1080 for the increased physical real state, and your take helped me out. I hope a 22'' 1440p display comes out soon.

      I'm so happy you enjoyed the format of the review! I work at a place where everyone talks about simple things in a complex way that I can't understand, so I try to avoid giving my viewers the same experience 😁.

    Regarding the comparison to the Artist Display Pro, I think what is most important to me is that the Kamvas Pro has an etched glass screen vs an anti-glare film. From what I've read about the anti-glare film on the XP-Pen products, it doesn't hold up quite as well over time. I'm leaning toward the Kamvas Pro for that reason.

    I own an older version of 16’’ Xp-pen drawing monitor. I don’t have much to complain until recent windows update. It worked fine beside the 1080p resolution and all the ui took too much space on 1080p 16’’ screen. The driver hadn’t updated at all after 1 year of my purchasing, and I bought it brand new. The recent windows update kill the driver and customer service told me there is nothing they can do besides ask me to undo the windows update and stop windows update from now on.

      Ugh that's so typical -- Windows Updates have trashed my system several times (though I haven't experienced this issue directly). Are you plugging in to your motherboard or directly into your GPU? If the latter maybe a GPU driver update...
      I've actually had a similar issue when my display wasn't as high res as I thought it should be, and it turned out that the cable I was using wasn't capable of delivering video at that resolution (I think it was a usb-c cable). Once got over my disbelief and switched out the cable for a more expensive one, everything worked 🤷

    I have a Kamvas 13 myself. I switch between my win 16" laptop and a 13" macbook pro for Sketchbook Pro and Blender. I was recently gifted a simple 47" desk which I probably wouldn't have bought as my space is pretty limited. I can fit most everything on there but it makes me consider getting a proper monitor setup for more screen real estate for game and software dev. I am conflicted between getting an Ultra wide monitor vs upgrading to a much larger pen display to save space. I would love to get a full sized keyboard on there with my mouse, with my 3D spacenav mouse (highly recommend btw), and a drawing pen display. Just wondered how well things worked out in your situation given all the options you were exposed too? Huion now offers two 24" pen displays choices (QHD/4K). Maybe the 4K 16" pro is all that I need but I know I am selling myself short without a bigger screen in combo.

    • @TaylorStine
      @TaylorStine  3 роки тому

      I have a video coming out (once my baby decides to start napping again) that may answer some of these questions. Spoiler alert: I think you'd probably be fine with the 16", depending on how much digital art you do on a daily basis. But if you want a bigger size, there's nothing wrong with going that route.
      I just got out the tape measure and my desk is 54", so not much bigger than yours (I'm actually a fan of smaller desks so they don't accumulate things). The 24" Cintiq pro takes up a lot of space on the desk, but I don't have a problem moving it to the side when I want to write code. My desk is 33" deep so that's helpful to have the extra space.
      I also use monitor arms from Amazon so I don't actually have the monitor base sitting on my desk which frees up a ton of room. Also, I've had a full sized mechanical keyboard for most of my life, but I recently switched to a 65% layout and I have to say I love it.
      I've heard great things about the 3D spacenav mouse, I think you might have pushed me over the edge to get one. Especially now that ZBrush added support with their latest release.

    Hi, I really like your review videos. I am also learning digital art and I will buy an Ipad to draw but I have three questions for you.
    1. In this video at 3:48 minutes I saw an art book which you were using that seems to be teaching you how to draw the head could you tell me the name of the book so that I can buy it?
    2. Is the stand that the drawing tablet comes with comfortable?
    3. I want to learn 3D art what programs, books, and computer setup do you recommend?

    • @TaylorStine
      @TaylorStine  3 роки тому +2

      I'm glad you enjoy them! That's a great choice, I plan on getting an iPad to do just that 😁.
      1. The book is called Figure Drawing Design and Invention by Michael Hampton. Phenomenal book, and he has some even better UA-cam content. I've been working though it for almost 3 months now and I still have more to go.
      2. Yes it's comfortable. It's simple and it does it's job, I didn't really notice it after a while which is ideal. Plus it's really hand to take on the go.
      3. That's a great question -- I'll just come out and say you should use Blender if you're brand new. It's free, feature rich, and there's a ton of quality UA-cam tutorials. If you want to work in industry and are willing to spend money, consider using a combination of ZBrush and Maya, which is what I use. To learn, just start having fun and making "bad" art -- that's how you find your style and learn the software. I've found drawing in 2d is a really good foundation for 3d art (but not at all necessary, since I learned 3d then supplemented with 2d). I haven't actually read any 3d specific books, I've only used online tutorials. Computer setup, I would say just start making art and see how your system handles it, then upgrade as needed. But you'll definitely want a tablet, with or without a screen.
      You maybe have just motivated my next video, because 3d software is a topic I could discuss for pages 😁.

    What doesn't feel right to me about 16 inch displays is the cramped vertical space. It's less than on an A4 paper, the medium which I'm used to. I think something like a 19-20 inch tablet would be large enough, without taking too much space on your desk like the 22-24 inch displays
    My favorite display so far has to be the ipad pro. While it's not as big as I would prefer, it kinda makes up for that in a few significant ways. It's not tied to a computer, and there's no lag or gap between screen and pentip. Also the touch is way more responsive than on any pen monitor. I kinda get this feel that if the folks at Apple put their mind to it, they could easily produce the definitive digital drawing experience in the near future

    • @TaylorStine
      @TaylorStine  3 роки тому +1

      This is a great point -- the range of motion isn't as comfortable on the 16 inch. If I'm not paying attention, I can end up with "hairier" lines because I tend to favor using my wrist instead of my shoulder.
      The iPad is on my list to get 😁. I tried one out at the Apple store, and I was surprised how good the quality was. Usually I'm skeptical of Apple -- they make amazing products that last long but obviously come with a premium price -- but the iPad was a delight to use. You may have just convinced me...

I do not know if it is applicable to all drawing programs, but you can fx scale Rebelle 5, so the tools become a little bigger and make it much easier to use on the the Kamvas 16 pro. The 4K is really good in Rebelle, since the resolution makes it possible to see the nano pixels of the program.

      💜 So happy you enjoyed it! Actually this is a good thing to bring up, it wasn't something I mentioned. The connection to the USB-C port isn't the most solid. I wouldn't call it flimsy, but there definitely wasn't a satisfying "click" when I pushed the cable into the port on the tablet. That being said, I haven't had an issue with it falling out, but it doesn't feel like it's the most solid thing in the world (it's actually been yanked while I was moving my desk and stayed attached).
      I'm racking my brain, but really can't think of anything -- I've really enjoyed using this tablet (check out my newly released video on size suggestion, but other than that this tablet has been amazing). If I'm reaching, I guess the only complaint I might have is I wish the cable was a little longer, but you can just get an extender so it's really not a big deal.
      That's a really tough call (especially since I haven't directly used the XP-Pen tablet). I will say that I have no second thoughts about buying the Kamvas. And when I was trying out the XP-Pen software and the Huion software, I liked the interface of the Huion software better, especially because it allowed me to easily remap the pen buttons per program (which as I mentioned is huge for me).
      Honestly, you're probably good either way, but I'd love to know what you go with in the end!

    you have a lot of experience with tablets.
    maybe in the future you will be able to tell in your videos about two things:
    1 - pen height and which tablets have the best.
    2 - which tablet can completely replace the monitor and mouse, excluding drawing.
    I am researching the question of how to completely replace the mouse with a graphics tablet and I see several problems:
    - the pen height is very small and often the cursor just disappears, which is very inconvenient.
    - wacom's prices are too high, but there are often reviews that say the Chinese alternatives are too low-quality.
    I would like more reviews with an emphasis not on drawing, but on everyday computer use.

    • @TaylorStine
      @TaylorStine  2 роки тому +1

      Great feedback! I'd love to answer, but I'm not totally sure what pen height means -- do you mean the the distance the pen needs to be from the screen in order to move the cursor? If so, I haven't really been able to tell a difference between the tablets, it's roughly the same.
      I do think that Wacom does make the best feeling tablets, but I think they are overpriced. In my experience you get more for your money with an alternative company, but some viewers have left comments that they've experienced technical issues after using the alternatives for a couple of months.
      If you want to use the tablet as a monitor and the touch pad, you actually might have more luck with a non display tablet like the Wacom Intuous Pro and a separate monitor. Usually the non display tablets function like a big trackpad for mouse movement, and are still really great to use with a pen.
      I hope that helps!

    I'm really having a hard time here. I think a 16inch display would be best for me as I'm just starting to get into digital art and don't want to overwhelm myself (very easy to do as I'm intimidated by lots of things) and don't plan on doing more than 5 hours a day of art like you mentioned in your "What display size should you get" video. I had a huion TABLET (probably Inspiroy H950P or something similar to that) and that was fun except it the cables broke a while back (it was 80$ then so I won't complain too much) and to be honest I want something I can draw directly onto rather than draw on and look at the monitor. ANYWAYS. You mentioned that on this display you can't really see the 4k difference on a 16 inch screen but I don't really care about that. Although it does make me think about the xpen artist pro being 24 inches only being 2k, so that's something to keep in mind incase I decide to upgrade in the future. I don't see the point in buying a 24 inch display if it's not 4k. The other thing that the Inspiroy H950P had is KEYS!!! (favorites were crtl z, b, e, [, ] and zooming in and out) It had express keys and so I'm surprised that pen displays don't have attached keys??? And have a remote?? Or if they do have express keys it's a 24 inch 2k display which doesn't feel like a good compromise to me. I'd rather have 4k and a better drawing experience overall than some keys that I can quit complaining over and just use my keyboard for. I can't find a 16 inch that has keys so I might have to make a compromise and buy this tablet and use my keyboard shortcuts, but it just kind of blows considering I'm spending 800+ for something I personally feel like has something missing to it. Beggar's can't be choosers though, I suppose. I've been doing research and watching a ton of videos (yours included) and think I've settled on this particular display but I'm kind of grumbling that it doesn't have express keys and I KNOW I can just buy the external remote but..... grrrrrrr. Stop trying to make fetch happen, it's not going to happen! Why can't there be a 16 inch display that has express keys that is great quality! Okay, okay. I will stop using you as my therapist but I'm sick of companies in general removing aspects that used to come with a product just to sell it separately for a separate price. However, I don't think me gripping in your comments is going to change that.
    Anyways, thanks for buying all of these tablets and honestly reviewing them and being blunt about what works and what doesn't AND how they compare to one another. Most the time reviewers will be like "It's great!" and don't go into detail about xyz but you did! So thanks again, king! Much respect and hope all goes well for you and yours :)

      Laughed at "stop trying to make 'fetch' happen" 🤣. Thanks so much for this comment -- I smiled while reading it because it sounds like my own internal dialog when I was trying to figure this out. I absolutely HATE feeling like I "settled" for something when it's expensive (which is why I have so many Amazon returns..).
      I felt the same way actually -- I loved having a tablet with express keys on the side (like my original Wacom Intuos), and the first time I saw a video suggesting that you could do without them it blew my mind.
      One thing that really helped me (and that might help you) is getting a smaller keyboard. I have a Keytron K2 (with cheap PBT keycaps). The smaller size makes it SO much easier to use it while I use my tablet. Plus it works well enough to use as a regular keyboard for work (I'm a software engineer so I'm typing constantly).
      I'm starting to come around on remotes now that I've taken the time to map out all the key bindings. But they aren't my favorite -- I hate that you have to set up all the bindings and sometimes they have issues (specifically I've had trouble remapping keys for ZBrush with the Wacom tablets, but maybe they'll fix that in the future).
      Baring that, a lot of the XP-Pen tablets have express keys on the side and they're not too intrusive. That might be what you're looking for.

    I was torn between this and the XP-Pen 24... coming from a Cintiq pro which I no longer have access to. The XP Pen was discounted over $300 bucks for no-rush shipping on Amazon... FYI if anyone is shopping (and maybe the Kamvas will be too). Mine ended up costing $585
    I'm excited to try it in comparison to the Cintiq... I was ready to pull the trigger on the Wacom again but it was just too painful....

    money aside - would you recommend the cintiq 16 (thats 1080p) or the Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (but its 4k) ?

    • @TaylorStine
      @TaylorStine  2 роки тому +1

      Phew, that is a tough one. If money isn't an object (and just to be clear we're talking about the regular Cintiq not the Cintiq Pro) I would say it depends on what you're using it for.
      If you're going to be digitally sculpting in Blender or ZBrush, having the extra 4K real-estate would be really helpful to fit all of the UI on the screen. But if you're just drawing, you might be okay with the Cintiq. I have heard rumors of longevity issues with the Huion tablets (but I haven't personally experienced any so it's hard to comment on them).
      I would probably say go with the Kamvas Pro 16" 4K, or go for the upgrade Cintiq Pro 16, but I wasn't a huge fan of the Cintiq 22 I tried in another video.

      Decisions decisions! That's a tough one, I actually have a video coming that should help you decide between a 16 and 22 inch tablet (as soon as my daughter decides to start napping again 😁). If you're considering 4k, if you have the money to spend, it's probably not a bad investment if you get the bigger screen.

      I actually haven't tried yet, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it was possible to do. This would be just a software/driver fix for XP-Pen, so if they don't have it implemented now I would be surprised if it isn't fixed in the near future.

    Huion is almost perfect to me, the screen is already on par with Wacom or better on some low end tablet display by wacom. If you sculpt with the mouse, is there lag in the stroke? How many points are you using on your model?
      The only thing I've noticed that is sort of weird is if I have Photoshop open and Zbrush open, Zbrush has issues with pressure sensitivity on the tablet. So maybe try closing all other programs first.

    Should be noted, especially for those that hold their tablet while using it; this tablet has no shortcut buttons, only an option to get an awkward wireless keyboard chunk with it (for 75$ extra), that is mostly useless, since if you can reach out to touch that thing, you can prob just use your computer keyboard.

You're not the first person to tell me my mic sounds good, so I need to check to see if there's some setting I have on that I'm not aware of. • @TaylorStine

      Yes, they must have fixed this. I'm able to press the pen buttons while dragging and the modifier key I have the button mapped to will be pressed during the stroke (I can even toggle it on/off in the same stroke). I don't notice any lag when doing this (or anything else), so unless I haven't run into it this must be the case.

    I got a question regarding the Huion. I own a mobile studio pro 16 prior and typically drew in Clip Studio.
    When I finally got to using my Huion, I noticed that my stabilizer for my brushes to not really be... Well, stabilized. The strokes felt too quick and I couldn't notice too much of a difference between 0 percent stabilization and 100 percent.
    Is this an issue for anyone? Is it my windows or my pen pressure setting for the tablet? Some help would be appreciated.

    • @TaylorStine
      @TaylorStine  2 роки тому +1

      When I turn 4k mode on the 16" it looks so small to me. Some people have pointed out in the comments that using 4k with a scaled up UI works well, but I'm still not sure how that's different from just using a lower resolution display (I assume the scaled 4k gives better pixel interpolation though). I can't be sure since I haven't tested it, but I would assume at the 16" size, the non 4k is still a great tablet.
