I love how she says “I hate that I have to wake up and look at all this”, you don’t have to, you choose to.

@@meghanh6745 He might be saying that she could leave. She claims it's not her mess so if she left she wouldn't have to deal with it. I understand your point too tho. She just said she was disabled so that sucks. Unfortunately sometimes (depending on the disability) you develop the illness from your own atmosphere.

@@meghanh6745 oh puhleeze!!! If she can get up out of bed, walk to the bathroom, make herself something to eat, she can clean up, just like her perfectly abled husband could too. I have a friend born without arms or legs who keeps a cleaner house.

This is something that happens slowly. One minute it’s 2 boxes then one day you wake up and it’s 50 boxes. My friend had this happen to her when she and her husband moved to a new house. When I finally got inside I say that it was insanely nasty. That’s when she kind of realized how nasty it was. I helped up and we cleaned the house. It took 2 month! Now she get worried when she left out 1 piece of trash because she doesn’t want it to get that bad again.

Sucks for them but I’m reluctantly grateful because I get attached to certain things pretty easily and stories like these make me unafraid to throw things away

Gives me anxiety, and looks kind of like my folks house. The two car garage is full of stuff, not even room for one car, and it’s hard to walk through period, like this house. It’s a lot, and it’s so unnecessary, and I’m worried about my mother’s health with all the dust it collects (she’s on oxygen full time & disabled…and it’s her stuff).

i seriously hate smoke alarms. mine is going on month 2. they really do require a special $300 ladder to reach. why builders put them so high up i dont understand. they wont save anyone from any fire if the batteries are dead or the detector itself has been busted out due to severe annoyance

I live with someone who's a hoarder. Lazy, useless and worthless. People who are hoarders are in denial and in my opinion, it's a waste of time, helping them. They see everything's OK. You try to help them, they get very defensive. The couple in the video are brave to open up. If it was me, I would be too embarrassed.

Hoarding is a mental disorder, sufferers feel paralysed and overwhelmed. It’s a very complex issue

Have you ever sat there and helped your mother clean it all up, or done it for her while she sat and told you what to throw away or what to keep?
Maybe she's too tired / exhausted, overwhelmed, ill etc and too proud to ask for help?
If you have not, you could do it and it would be a bonding activity.

@@milkshakemuncher While it’s a nice thought, I have tried offering help, to no avail. Now, my older sister and her 3 adult children live there (along with their 5 dogs), and that doesn’t help matters. They don’t offer much help in cleaning/decluttering, not to mention they have stuff piled up in various places as well. It’s kind of a complicated situation, honestly, but most of the “stuff” that’s piled up everywhere belongs to my mother. I know she’s exhausted, but not too exhausted to keep buying things online that she doesn’t need nor will she ever use, sadly. I think buying things is filling a void in addition to filling up the house.
