Can you imagine a 12 year old kid with THAT much talent. It is amazing. It's sad too to think of her struggles and untimely death. Thanks for the post.
Actually, it was her dad who taught her how to sing! Judy Garland's handsome Dad had a beautiful tenor voice and taught her how to sale a song to the audience! I Love Judy Garland! Judy Garland's version of this Fantastic Song is the best ever!
Judging by the smoothness of her dialogue and the incredibly polished singing, Judy did NOT need Wallace Beery to "hang onto" because of nervousness - as he reassures her. She'd perform this song - singing and dancing - in the finale of "Presenting Lily Mars" (1943).
Is she really 12 here? If so, I think she's the best 12-year-old singer I've ever heard. I'm thinking mom possessed her own type of genius, if she managed to shape young Judy this way. Judy shows much more than blazing raw talent, she's also been wonderfully coached.
...not that a person could have any hope of coaching a normal kid into being this good. It was a perfect storm of ultimate stage mom and rare prodigy child.
It was Judy Garland's Caring, Loving Handsome Dad, Frank Gumm, who had a beautiful tenor singing voice who taught Judy Garland had to sail a song to the audience! Roger Edens was her voice mentor. Judy Garland's abrasive, blunt, controlling, demanding, overbearing mother Ethel Milne Gumm was only a fair singer, and her talent was very limited. Both Judy Garland's dad Frank Gumm and Roger Edens were Gay! Homophobia is absurd!
I remember being 10-12 and being heartbroken because I couldn't sing like her -well, maybe if I had studied for 10 years I d have gotten a bit closer...
I was born 26.10.1960 / 19:45h on the same day at 20h she had a concert in Germany, Wiesbaden so I did my first breathes while listening to her later then she became my singing-teacher 😉 WHAT COINCIDENCE
@CelineElla123 Um, because they were wrong or careless? Do the math. It was October 1935. June 1935 was 4 months before. 1935 - 1922 = 13. Look it up on Wikipedia if you don't believe me. Or ask any Judy fan on UA-cam. She was born June 10, 1922.
0:48 - "I want to be a singer Mr. Berry. And I'd like to act too!" - ICONIC!!!
As if she had a choice.
I know...I LOVE the way Judy talks...so CUTE!!!

This is incredible! Judy garland was the best actress and singer ever, and there will never be anyone else like her.

Young Judy was actually 13 here - born June 10, 1922. Still (!) incredibly great with her vocal powers - no matter what age!
WoW - her voice was amazing for 12 years old!
Tão inocente, linda, cheia de vida!!! Judy sempre será uma grande inspiração para mim.

She's amazing.
Judy did become a versatile and talented performer..but..she paid a very heavy price for that fame.

ViralTuber Agreed
Her mother was a monster
Her mom gave her pills to sleep and to perform which was what started her drug addiction :(

Amazing

Judy was born on June 10, 1922. So if this program was aired before June 10, then she was 12, if it was aired after June 9th, she was 13.
It's true. She use to sing like an adult.
WHAT A GIRL! Cute and beautiful ooze out of every pore! WOW...THE VOICE!💘💓
Thirteen, actually. But everything else, I completely agree with.
When was this radio show aired?. For her to be 13, this show would have aired no earlier than June 10, because that's the day she turned 13.
Terry Smith It says it was aired October 26th.
@xander7ful I know. I just didn't know who was wrong.
I know very much about her.
I was born 26.10.1960 / 19:45h
on the same day
at 20h she had a concert
in Germany, Wiesbaden
so I did my first breathes
while listening to her
later then she became
my singing-teacher 😉
WHAT COINCIDENCE
Das ist ein erstaunlicher Zufall.
Nice!
@CelineElla123 She was 13 here. Born in June 1922.
She was actually 13 here. Her father was dying in the hospital listening to her.
Charlene Zacks it wasn't this song, it was the 1935 recording of Zing! Went the strings of my heart on November 16
Amanda is right
Maybe she sang 2 songs oh nevermind it's not this
@xander7ful If she was 13, why did they say she was 12?
CelineElla123 To make her talent even more sensational- either way, Judy has buckets more talent than anyone :)
this was her radio debut, right?
26 October is my birthday :)
this is amazing. But it sounds like when she was speaking she had a script.
