Joe Ely - "Oh Boy"

- Irish TV session, 1980's. It's Joe Ely , accompanied by the magnificent David Grissom on Lead guitar. Ely announces he will recreate a Texas Honkytonk atmosphere by assembling a "gee-tar army" onstage. Included in this unlikely shennanigan are Irish musicians Phillip Donnelly (In top form and REALLY rippin' it up) and Conor Brady, later to be associated with the Corrs. Young Master Brady gives a good account of himself and treats us to a wild Celtic dance. Either that or he keeps tripping over his own shoe laces.... Finally, the delightfully sexy Rosie Flores gets a guitar break. Interesting piece of guitar history. Apologies for quality, which is not helped by the over-use of red and blue spotlights.

I remember when this was broadcast on A&E TV. I recorded it on VHS tape and still have it. This is one of the best Ely performances ever IMHO. And I have seen him perform live in the neighborhood of 200+ times between 1978 and the present... mostly in the 80's and 90's.
It doesn't get much better than Joe Ely doing Buddy Holly...
Rosie Flores rocks... man, that woman rocks that guitar
I spotted Rosie before I checked the info- proud of ya! so many don't know Rosie, and that's a damn shame.
And I adore Joe, lol. He was the first person to drop by on my 26th birthday. A gentleman of talent.
My teen hood friend Rosie...recorded with her brother, and partied with the family way back when...Go Go Go Rock-a-billy Filly!

Hot Damn I Like It Alot... I wish I could get this on an officially released DVD !!!
An old favorite.
Oh boy, do those jeans look good on Ely! ;) Sure wish i had known him back then. Great song, great performances all around. Thanks so much for making this available to us! God, i love youtube!
Thanks for pinning down the date, I never knew that.
Wouldn't it have been great if Rory could have been there.
Joe was such a Buddy Holly fan, and very influenced by his music... both from Lubbock... Joe and Sharon named their daughter Maria Elena.
A Lubbock boy playing another Lubbock boy's song. There mst be something in the West Texas agua. You've got Buddy, Joe, Delbert McClinton, Lloyd and Natalie Maines, John Denver and Mac Davis.
Joe's is playing Vicars Street Dublin with The Flatlanders on July 29th.
Actually just looking at this. Does anyone else thing that Phil Donnelly looks like "the Shroud of Turin" in this clip!
Yes I think it is some sort of "post- punk" type of stage dancing. I always wonder if he ever did this dance and actually DID trip over. He's a good wee guitarist though.
Then learn how to use the "more info" tab a bit more often when you are looking at UA-cam videos. sometimes you will find that the person who posted the video ( i.e., me) will have taken the trouble to research the video and tell you the name of the guitarist ( it's conor Brady)
wow conor brady plays just like Wilko Johnson !
