Thanks for this. As a Dane and Copenhagener, I've known Tivoli all my life ( since the 50's) - but I had never heard about the hot-air-balloon, Montebello.
    Interesting.

I went to the Concert Hall back in the '80s to see rock'n'roller Chuck Berry. During the show Chuck was trying to encourage the audience to sing along (which most weren't doing). Chuck then admonished the audience by saying, "What's the matter? Aren't you the cream of Swedish youth?" Needless to say that didn't go over well. Otherwise it was a great show!

Ahaha! That's so funny - bet people DEFINITELY weren't singing after that! 😂

Your videos are so great!! Im learning lots of new things from you that Ive never heard about.. Thanks a bunch :) Do you know what streets and canals the photos from the views from Montebello show? time stamp 3:16 to 3:23
my fave memories are eating pink cotton candy floss and taking home those old single colored baloon animals with big noses that would float to the ceiling over my bed :) I dont remember the rides at all from when I was a kid.

I’ve visited Tivoli on numerous occasions. Not least in my youth, being a soldier in Livgarden. But Montebello was something I wasn’t aware of. That was such a cool ride … and considering the time … very innovative.
Also the origin of it’s name is something I never really thought about. But a nice little snippet of trivia to have. 😉
… and finally a chance to congratulate you on 1k subscribers. Long overdue. ❤️

I had heard the name Montebello and connected it to Copenhagen, but that's all.

Such an amazing video, great work as always Erin!
I don’t really have any great stories, but its a tradition for me and my family to go at least once every summer, winter and autumn. Not really for the rides but More just to walk around and enjoy the scenery

Thanks so much, Cat! We do the same - the Tivoli pass cards you can get work out to be such a great value for money if you go a lot 😊

Very interesting, I've never heard about the yellow balloon, and I wonder why they don't advertise that with huge signs in the park, it sounds like a historical treasure to me.
One (maybe) correction. "Smøgen" could indeed mean "the smoke", but it is also Danish slang for like a backalley, usually (but not necessarily) with small shops. I don't know if there's a word for this in English, but I apologize if there IS and that word is "the smoke" :'D
Great video as always, I'm only sad it isn't longer, but then, you do cover a lot of ground in seven short minutes rather than just dragging things out

Oh really great point about the nuance of "Smøgen" and why it's used in that context! I guess it would have come from that these backalley type shopping streets would historically have been filled with smoke from all the small workshops or something? I can't think of any comparable English word/slang for a street like that tbh.
Thanks so much for watching & commenting - and I agree about the balloon! Surprised they don't advertise it more in some way 🎈

Pratter in Vienna, Austria is from 1766, so Tivoli is the THIRD oldest amusement park in the world.
