I love to watch anyone who is great at what they do. This guy is a master! This should also answer the old question of why stroker motors are so much more exspencive to build.
Dude are you high right now?? Any engine that receives a crankshaft with more than the stock amount of measured stoke is considered a "STROKER" and you can NOT get to 454 cubic inches with any Small Block without a huge advance in measured stroke (and bore as well)...Just because a professional engine builder (like this one) does all work for you does NOT mean it isn't a stroker. This video shows you can NOT just throw a stroker crank in a button it up, there is a TON of work to do with lots a learned secrets. This IS a STROKER if there ever was one. And if your engine has LESS than the stock amount of stroke its considered DE-STROKED. But I digress..
Umm this is a kit made to a certain Cubic inch. it is not a "stroker" it was not intended to "increase" the displacement over any STOCK motor ,,,, it has NOTHING to do with a STOCK motor, it is NOT based on a stock motor. Quit over using the term "stroker" ///// engines have a stroke and a bore, just like this one. and NOTHING to do with STOCK.
Finally a man that really knows what he's doing with motors checking the Lash after the first pass incredible I would have this men build a motor for me on any given day a true mechanic
This is very engaging/informing presentation. Done in cordial, gentlemen manner/demeanor by a Gentleman. Even tone, no hyperbole. Most important ZERO vile, four-letter words. Not even a tame version such as damn/shit. You, Sir are 2/B commended for not a good job well done, but rather an EXCELLENT one!! The only improvements would've liked seen better time management. IE: Time spent on adjusting valves & setting timing woulda been better spent showing the remedy to intake manifold issues you spoke about. Anyone watching this video should know bout valves & timing adjustments. I'd liked to know type fuel & it's octane rating. I think you said motor was 2/B a 14.5/1 ratio. Certainly needed to know dyno numbers. Overall some of most entertaining/informative best 2+ hours of my life I've spent in while. Thank you, Sir 💯% 👏🏼 👍🏼 🎯
no clue what numbers it has would more likely to invest if i knew the numbers but i like the block would be good for a blower set up how much power can it handle
I rekon tim oh please santa please good open country roads here where I am would love to have in my xr8 ford 5 speed manual box and independent 9inch id open her right open in 3rd 4th then 5th easy hit 300kms id say
You took the pushrod apart and pulled it out of the head and put it back together to measure at 53:16, how did you know where to put it back together to get the right length? I'm lost there....
Yeah. I was wondering at what point does it make more sense to build a 460? This engine is way cool though. I guess it's a good bit lighter than a big block. I was kind of surprised about a couple of choices. Why not some really nice type of shaft mounted rocker system and did I hear him say that was a hydraulic ROLLER cam? The guys on engine masters showed the big advantage of a solid roller cam. This is a race engine, so why would you not want solid lifters? Still a VERY cool video.
Speaking to your thoughts bout why not just build 460cid. Quite positive its weight factor, plus expense. Engine builders still go thru much same steps regardless of motor size/build. Hence larger cid of motor. More money. But IMHO it was all weight saving. Watched another small block Ford build on here. They used aluminum aftermarket block. They factored in over 100# saving. It too a very large cid. It too over 450cid. & over 1200hp. WoW!
"On the dyno, as you’ll see in the video, the engine pumped out 700 horsepower and 585 lb-ft torque from 454 cubic inches of displacement." Wonder why they didn't tell that important part here.
Just bought a 351 cleveland stroker 393 4v head ported 3xxcfm intake edelbrock quick fuel 750 All roler 11000$ not installed Its going on the dyno next week approx 550hp So his....way up there in the price
14:1 on Pump gas, Remmy Come on, all you would have it detonation, This is built as a performance engine. Lester, you can build it at 9:1 and put 400 lift and have a street motor.....but why bother. YOU DO NOT NEED methanol.... Good lord. C12 c14 will run great , just DYNO and tune the timing .
Ford first on race day fast on race day and last but certainly not least ferocious on race day no damn two bitten junk Chevrolet will leave the Dodge guys for another day the blue oval all the way
I'm sorry but using a deg wheel on a push rod engine is just stupid there's only so many holes/slots and they're all marked, also if you hone both ends of a connecting rod guess what the center of the two holes is still gonna be the same.........js
You tubers will call anybody an expert. This guy has never done any of this in his life. I wouldn't let this guy build engines for me. He's just a guy trying to sell an inferior product, all these blocks are cores until they're fixed by a good machinist.
Agreed, almost the entire kit has to be machined, then you still have to assemble to check and see if you need to fly cut pistons all that, he'll I can order my own parts and do all that why do I wanna pay someone to re-package things? Vaguest all they do is put most of the parts you need in one big box and change you extra to do that.....
I love to watch anyone who is great at what they do. This guy is a master! This should also answer the old question of why stroker motors are so much more exspencive to build.
Stroker what? this is just a kit. no stroker......
??

???
Nice shop, nice tech, good presentation. Big improvement needed is camera angles, get closer, tighter.
Great vid, done by true expert. Only short coming was in the audio..needed better mic control. Filing this as one of the best.
I would have loved to have seen some numbers after watching!!!!! h. p.

Very nice machine shop!

Good straight forward build. Could have been better with the dyno results.
Great video!
I’d like for the camera to be a little closer
please santa please!!

you guys still offer this? price for one of these engines?
So the heads used here do not utilize the extra bolt holes . What heads do and how are the attached at the intake side. Though the intake runner ?
25:15 Scruffy the janitor from Futurama is cleaning up!
..if you're gonna fly cut the Pistons, you should do that & Weigh Everything Before you balance the Rotating Assembly..
You took the pushrod apart and pulled it out of the head and put it back together to measure at 53:16, how did you know where to put it back together to get the right length? I'm lost there....
The adjustment was already set, this is a two piece . made to do Mach up. it does not affect where you previously set it on the second set of threads.
I'm going to take "swag" here. B/C I noticed same. That adjustable push rod has jam nut.
nice
wow. lot of work to get a 454 small block.

This is just a normal little kit. "lot of work?"
I'm betting it was worth the work, though. I'd make heckva sleeper in road car. Most would think it a built 351cid motor.

FYI: Very worthwhile video. ua-cam.com/video/w0F3evCJQAk/v-deo.html
any numbers ?

WHAT HEADS WERE USED
Pay attention,in the very beginning as he is taking the head out of the box he tells you what head it is.
After 2 hours and no dyno numbers.
i thought he may of also dropped boil and inspected the filter, good video just such an anti climax !!!
"the oil " dont know where boil came from !!!!
high 500"s , low 600"s hp
aussi3212 if I had a 454 at 14:1 and 242 cc heads and it only made high 500’s low 600’s I would be pissed
I got a 97 Ford F-150 short box , I want this engine.....How much?
Probably around 12-15000$
Assemble and all...
patrick260581 omg!! installed too? :)
Just bought a 351 cleveland stroker 393
4v head ported 3xxcfm intake edelbrock quick fuel 750
All roler
11000$ not installed
Its going on the dyno next week approx 550hp
So his....way up there in the price
patrick260581 351 eh? I like the Windsor myself.
You have no clue on how to calc pushrod length
No numbers ??
732 HP @ 6900 & 621 TQ @ 5300
700hp/585tq.
yea and the audio that was a cluster fuck
Well you wont be running this on pump gas. That's not so cool. Who wants to deal with that? Sure is nice though.
Ahha, somebody doesn't know what they're talking about...and it's you.

The slots are not always accurate, that's why you have to verify it
You are clueless.
You tubers will call anybody an expert. This guy has never done any of this in his life. I wouldn't let this guy build engines for me. He's just a guy trying to sell an inferior product, all these blocks are cores until they're fixed by a good machinist.
which part specifically? which part would you fix?
Agreed, almost the entire kit has to be machined, then you still have to assemble to check and see if you need to fly cut pistons all that, he'll I can order my own parts and do all that why do I wanna pay someone to re-package things?
