Trains at: Warrington Bank Quay, WCML, 07/03/2020

- An alright afternoon session spent at Warrington Bank Quay on the West Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from Avanti West Coast, Northern, Transport for Wales and freight from DB Cargo UK.
The station was built in 1868 by the London and North Western Railway and for a long period of had two different platforms on two different levels, this had stayed in this fashion right up until 1965 when it was eventually reworked. Platforms 6 and 7 which were the low level platforms were on the St Helens Railway Line, the line now is still open but is only used for freight traffic to pass around the station if needed. When the West Coast Mainline was being constructed it was raised to pass over the West to East line.
The modern station has two different design features, the eastern platforms still have the 19th century buildings albeit maintained so they still have their charm and the western platform has a more modern station building dating from the 1950's. Because the station is located on a high level it means that access to the station is done through a street level entrance which consists of an information office and ticket office which then leads to a subway which will take you to which ever platform you need to catch your relavent service.

Thanks very much I'm glad you enjoyed watching this, this was an alright enough station to come to but I would have liked to have seen a bit more variety in traffic. Perhaps when the new trains start running I will come back here at a later date
Great video! I saw 66221 at Tamworth, it gave me a cracking 4 tone. The surrounding area at this station is quite modern and nice too. Super annoying that you went to Birmingham and Tamworth a week later than I did, but hey that's sods law!

Tornado922, if you get bored with no trainspotting, Railcam is doing practically all day streams at Crewe, Chesterfield South Jn, Dagenham, Barking, Thankerton and York if you're desperate to see trains.

This was filmed well before the social distancing measures were brought into affect in the UK and the travel restrictions were brought in :) The majority of us are doing aright over here but sadly the virus is taking it's toll on many people

Saturday afternoon is not the best time for freight and the closure of Fiddlers Ferry power station hasn't helped with freight passing underneath either. Go during the week once life returns to normal and there's usually a bit more to see. You will also catch the 67 hauled Manchester - Holyhead if you're there at the right time (10.30 to Holyhead, 15.18 returning) and Grand Central should be using 90's on their Euston - Blackpool services, although they won't stop there. Warrington Bank Quay is my local WCML station and the only issue I have is when there's a wind blowing as it can get quite fierce.
I shall have to bear that in mind should I come back here, thanks for the added info it really helped!
No problem. Your videos have provided me with endless hours of train watching and great entertainment. That entertainment level goes up a notch when you start waffling or, as sometimes happens, completely lose the plot!! My home station too - as you said - dire! When Fiddler's Ferry power station was 'alive', there was a lot of coal merry-go--round traffic as well as intermodal containers and nuclear flask stuff. But now - added to that the reduction in services due to this damned virus- - - - !

Leyland is a decent WCML station, It’s just north of the Junction where the line from Manchester via Bolton joins the WCML so there’s better frequency than Wigan and Warrington.
I shall have to look into that then!

Trans Pennine do not serve Warrington. The Liverpool - Scarborough used to serve Warrington Central on the other side of the town, but they now go via the Chat Moss route through my local station Rainhill.

Great video as always but transpennine express don’t operate through Warrington bank quay, they go via Lea Green and Newton le Willows to Edinburgh and Newcastle etc.

its because they take some time to repaint, plus during this pandemic even longer, they’re slowly being repainted but they’re in these temporary liveries that you can see with only the front and rear coaches painted right now, they’ll all be repainted very soon

@@Tornado922 Yeah exactly. On 15th of april i would have been going to Llandudno for 2 nights with the middle day the 16th which is my birthday i would have been in Liverpool lime street but postphoned now
Brilliant video tornado, i found the best station on the WCML is easily Milton Keynes central because of the avanti stoppers, london northwestern, freight from dirft and more, southern and the avanti are constant around there, but what do you think?
Stafford is a very good station and plenty of variety.
For the southern section of the WCML Milton Keynes Central is easily one of the best stations to go because of the variety but as Alan rightfully says Stafford is a very good station in its own rights

Because it was recorded last month and that was before we were on lockdown
This was filmed on the 7th of March so this was well before the travel restrictions were brought into affect
Sorry the long comment but it has to be said.
By the way, KTV made solemn video about trainspotting vs coronavirus. I thoroughly agree with him. Do you think if people are still trainspotting at a station at this time, then they are being bloody stupid? I think so because of two reasons:
1:if this continues, it paints a bad impression of trainspotters as they could be banned from doing so in the future if they continue. This could affect you because after the situation clears, every station will be like seven sisters and that will be upsetting! My advice is if you see anyone doing trainspotting at this station at this G#@£#*m time when the coronavirus has slayed 917 people yesterday (stat on the 11th April and Over 20000 in cumulative terms) then tell KTV immediately or any media platform.
2:It is selfish to NHS staff who commute by train to work as you could get or spread symptoms. More like *get it* because it is the NHS staff are the ones dealing with patients with the coronavirus. They are mentally, physically and skillfully tested. The last thing they need is an obnoxious trainspotter coughing at them or catching it from them. When they are there, they are putting the workers and themselves at risk.
Okay, if the trainspotters can't help it, they can go to their nearest railway structure I.e railway pedestrian bridge or crossing that I also in very close proximity to their home. I want them to be safe and also, I don't want to be the kind of person who call them who do this idiots (same for any person in this world) but from how society is going with common sense disappearing, we are getting more tempted to harshly scrutinise people.
If possible, you could shift this comment into your Q&A video where you can express your opinion.

I'm not sure about the frequency of the 221 units as it's all down to stock availability and allocation as to what routes they operate
