How To Set Up An Audio Interface Using Bandlab

- Опубліковано 7 сер 2024
- This is a brief tutorial video showing the basic setup of an audio interface.
Although I'm using Bandlab in this example, the setup will be largely similar whatever DAW you are using whether that's Logic, Ableton, Garageband etc.
If you are looking for the absolute basics of recording please check out my other video on the subject.

Hey. Most steps should be the same…the difference will be setting the interface as your audio in and out. Find your settings and then go to sound settings and it should be there 👍
@@ChasingTheGoose thank you
@@ChasingTheGooseI’ve been trying this. But there is a 99-150+ latency. How do I fix that????

@@ChasingTheGoose In my headphones, sorry for late response. But it’s very important for me to use monitoring while recording. So I was wondering is it BandLab that’s causing the delay?
Hey, thanks for this clear and to-the-point video. I browsed through too many videos fattened with wordiness and fancy music and I continued to get confused as to what to buy to start my little home recording thing and BandLab. This worked. Thanks!
Thank you so much ,mate!🤘😎 Finally a video with everything 1would need for the complete process!I'm so bloody grateful And happy!! GetchaPull-Cheers 🤘😈🥃🍻
Hi Ryan, thanks for your video, i just purchased my scarlet Focusrite interface and watching your video for setup
Best of all the interface setup videos
A very helpful video 📹. Thanks bro
You just saved my night 💪🏽
Thanks bro it really helped❤️❤️
Wow thanks a lot brother very very helpful 🙏
I appreciate you so much for this! Thank you!!
Top job cheers Ryan👌
This deserves 1 million views
Enjoyed your video...very clear and concise. I have the Scarlett Solo and no midi keyboard...yet. I've set up my PC computer's audio input and output for the Solo, can hear you, and for example the Acoustic Guitars fine, BUT cannot hear any of its sub sounds (specific guitar sounds) when I click on them. I'd like to peruse through the different loops and packs offered, but for some reason, I can't hear them! Help & thank you!
I'm not sure what you mean...are these loops that are in your DAW? Can you hear them if you drag them on to the timeline? And what program is it? If you found this video because you are on Bandlab I would highly recommend getting Reaper instead!
Hey man, I am planning to make a full cover of a love song. What fx of the recording should be used?
Bruh thank you so much.
Hey, so my vocal recording has a clicking and I even turned off the meternome to see if that was the problem. I have a Shure SM 58 and the Presonus AudioBox
I have the same problem when I used de bandlab with my scarlet solo 3 generation, all my records have a clicking, somebody can help me please?
What kind of a clicking? Is it constant like a metronome or random? Is it only on loud sounds or all the time? If it's bandlab, how good is your internet? You might be better downloading Reaper or another DAW...
@@ChasingTheGoose I actually fixed it thank you!
hi great tutorial..Im a beginner ..and I bought behringer 202 hd as my interface ..all my accessories are new but I got problem and I dont know how to fix it ...I use my guitar cable 1/4 trs to record using behringer connected on my bandlab apps mobile when I record theres no problem on the direct monitor, all is clean and no noise but when I finished record and play it, there was a noise interference blipping and clipping accompanying the guitar sounds, I tried some cable and I lower the gain control but I got the same outcome ..
Please help me with this I want to star my music...
If this is soundlab then it might be internet issues. I'd download a DAW on to your computer....Logic or Ableton....Reaper if you don't have the money for the others
Bro when i want to record using 2i2 my recording is cracky, what should i do?
Thank you for your great video. You mentioned in the video that you can use the virtual instruments of bandlab, what about using your own sounds from the keyboard or external plugins, is that possible in bandlab? Thank you!
You can't use external plugins but you could use the sounds from your keyboard by just plugging it in through the jack input on your interface.
@@ChasingTheGoose thank you appreciate the quick answer very much!
I like to see more videos because I have the same software thk you
but for my interface i have a small delay of what comes out
While you are tracking or after you have recorded something? If it's while you are tracking some audio interfaces have 'direct monitoring'...if you can see that button press it. If you can't, just leave monitoring off and take a headphone off one ear. If it's after you have recorded, that kind of latency can be caused by buffering issues...it's trickier to fix, Bandlab has a built in 'latency test' which is meant to adjust for this but it's not available on all platforms...this is worth or try...or just get Reaper 😀ua-cam.com/video/molB6HkrclE/v-deo.html
I’m using an iPad and scarlet interface to record my guitar but for some reason I believe the iPad mic is recording as well whenever I record so I’m getting all kinds of feedback back and outside noise .Any suggestions?
Are you using headphones? Is there a chance that you have monitoring turned on? When you play can you hear it in the headphones speakers live? If so turn it off or plug headphones in…. Try it and let me know 🙃
Hey i tried connecting my audio interface called mackie onyx producer 2-2 but after i connected the jack to jack from my guitar to the interface there is no signal picking up in bandlab.. but there is a signal picking up directly to the audio interface... What do i do.. genuinely confused

Hi,,I've got a Allen n Heath Zed 16Fx mixer. It came with the Cakewalk bundle.
But I can't seem to get to work it.Its USB, connection type. Do I have to use Audio interface,,,?.
Somebody help,,,coz I can't get in the sound input to the DAW from the keys/guitars etc etc.
Sorry for the slow response. Did you get it working?
is there any way to use an audio preset on pc as the input? example: using my “no noise, echo, muffle” sound preset on discord
@@KoaztalYT I want to say yes…but I’m not sure what you mean 🙃
Hello. Is there still a squeeky sound in focusrite when using acoustic guitar?
Are you plugging it straight in? Always use a mic on an acoustic
Goodnight brother. Firstly I want to say thanks for the detailed video, it's really helpful but I need to know why my mic stopped being picked up in Bandlab. I also don't see the levels raising at all when I hit record. I get no sound whatsoever when I recorded multiple tracks with this same mi, please help.🙏🙏🙏 I also notice that the interface is much different today than it was 3 years ago so I'm unable to follow these instructions 100% accurately.
if you're not seeing any levels...that's a sign that the signal isnt getting that far...are you on mac or pc? in your sound settings (not in the DAW) check that the interface is selected as your input. On a mac thats in settings and then sound...
Sorry, just wanna make sure. So you can use the Scarlett directly on your Mac PC and connect with the Bandlab without installing any Scarlett driver?
The sign up is for your warranty and the extra software...I didn't have to install any drivers.
I'm using window's 11 and focusrite interface along w condenser mic. Checked sound under system configuration. Everything OK 👍 input, output etc yet when I go on bandlab the mic isn't picking up signal on bandlab. I have a feeling it may be bug issue because when I click on "input -> no device" I choose "device 1" (my only option) but still no signal from mic. Anyone else having same problem?
*I usually use cakewalk by bandlab software btw & can record there. Just wanted to try bandlab app as well
Ive heard good things about cakewalk but ive never used it. To be honest I normally try and persuade people away from Band Lab where possible ha ha
Hello if you see this I hooked up my M audio box to BandLab with my brand new mic and I don’t know why the mic’s not going through BandLab if anybody can help out thank you
Did you get it working? Have you selected the M audio box as your input and output in your sound settings? Does the interface require drivers that you need to download?
But the electric guitar with the effects from the program ? Ps : I tried one time and I musted use direct monitor to hear the effects but its sounds with much latency and by the way, what latency is the best for this program ?
To avoid latency when recording...a quick and easy fix is to only have one headphone on and monitor yourself in the room...then you don't have to worry about latency at all...just turn monitoring off
For some reason when I plsy it back I have no pan on but it only plays back my voice in the right side of the headphones.
All the time? Or just your voice? I might need more details to be able to help. Tell me a bit more about it
awesome
Hey so I got all my stuff connected in the focus right and my mic and MacBook but when I want to record it’s just making a robotic noise when I speak in the mic
Could be a lot of things...dodgy lead, problem with the mic, just a glitch ...have you tried just restarting the program?
Im using a pc and a at2020 mic and when i record vocals my focusrite solo picks up audio on the instrument track causing feedback. How do i fix that. SOS
Hey. I don’t quite know what you’re saying…if you have the solo then there isn’t another track that could be picking anything up…it’s only got one channel. After you have recorded your instrument make sure that track is no longer ‘armed’ to record…hope that helps?
Do I plug the headphones into the audio interface or my computer to be able to hear previous tracks (like drums) while recording a new track (like guitar)?
You can do either...it depends where you are sending audio out to in your settings... I would recommend using your interface as the input and output device then you can plug your cans or speakers in to the interface...sorry for the slow response...I'm lost in Pokemon at the minute
I'm having the same issue I can record guitar but can't hear drums I've recorded so I can't play along with it with my gweetar ! So all I need to do is plug headphones onto the interface and I'll hear the drums to play along to yea ??
@@drdrummer87 When I switched to GarageBand on iPad all the issues I kept having with Bandlab went away. Also, when I tried Bandlab on iPad/Apple it worked 100x better than it does on PC
Hi. I have a pc and my pc is aware that the interface is plugged in. Ive even recorded some stuff some days ago but today on bandlab it just says no device. I dont understand anything.
In your sound settings (thinks it's bottom right hand corner?) what are your inputs and outputs set to? In your computer settings, not in Bandlab 🙃
Hey man and thanks for your video! I've some problems with my acoustic guitar using Bandlab. I use a behringer umc404hd and a PC but when i register the guitar the volume is too low and some rumors disturb the sound. what could be the problem? Thanks!
Hey man. Are you plugging your guitar in directly? You will normally get better results putting a half decent mic in front of an acoustic guitar although it is possible to plug straight in. You should make sure to select 'instrument' on the front of your interface...check the pad button isn't on....then you should be able to control volume with the gain knob. Also make sure your guitar volume is up full and you have a battery in your pickup. Hope that helps?
Wassup Ryan I got audio technica and I’m currently using BandLab I been having trouble recording my voice when I do record it on BandLab the mic doesn’t pick up no signal
Audio Technica interface? What's the mic? Does it need phantom power (48v)?
The focusrite doesn’t show in my input options, i can only see audio device #1 but no sound comes out
On what computer?
I’m on a Chromebook, how can I get the sound settings
I think the audio settings are somewhere near the volume control in the bottom corner 🙂
i have the focusrite scarlett solo and a rode nt1a, daw is bandlab, but after doing everything the website said and everything youtube tutorials have said i still cant get any sound picked up by the mic, theres no indication of sound on the scarlett or in bandlab and its lowkey annoying me, any help?
After you have set it all up in bandlab and created a voice/instrument track....at the bottom left of the screen do you have your interface selected as the input? If it's still not working...try downloading reaper (it's free) and see if it works in there...good luck
@@ChasingTheGoose on it just now, thank youu
Do you need to turn on phantom power for guitar/instruments?
No but there is normally a button to specify that your are plugging in a line signal....normally marked 'instrument'
What do you do when you press record but it doesn't save the recording and so it won't playback ?
Hi. Are you seeing the audio record in...as in, are you seeing it create a block in the timeline with a waveform in it?
@@ChasingTheGoose yes it shows it recording. The source is picking up but after I record my part the track that I just recorded disappears. I'm wasting a lot of time in the studio.
How I fix the delay in my vocals when I hear it as am recording?
on the front of your interface change the monitoring option to 'direct monitoring'...it's sometimes represented as a small circle and then a double circle (on a two channel interface)...that should help. another option is not monitor at all and just leave one headphone off. Hope that helps
Just a question: does it all come in that big black box, or do I have to buy all that separately?
Yes this was for a specific project and they bought the flight cases separately 🙂
2nd Q?
I sing on harmonium box and harmonium sound gets recorded along with vocals and can not be spilted. If I put reverb or echo, harmonium sound is roaring, so how I put effects on solo vocals
Please reply
The only way to get total separation is to record them separately...if you recorded it down one mic then there's not a lot you can do...you could try eqing the reverb if they're on separate channels and it's just bleed that's the issue?
Hi, I just got BandLab on my mac along with the focusrite and I don’t know how to use it. I tried setting up my focusrite to BandLab but it’s not connecting. I did the input and output like you said. Can you help me out?
I have a video to show you.
Did you get it working yet? My first piece of advice I give anyone who watched this video is....download Reaper instead. Bandlab is fairly rubbish and unless it's for school or solely for the collaboration options (not even worth it for that though really) I would get a different program. Reaper is a great place to start. Let me know if you can't get it working on Reaper. Nice one
My scarlet turns all lights on then off then only leaves air light on what does this mean
Is everything working ok? Sounds like you've just got the 'air' button turned on.
So my question is: How do I split the channels?
Like can I get the bass to come through one channel and piano on another channel
Do you mean to record or when you are playing it back? If you are recording and have the two instruments plugged in the two inputs on the interface....you just need to set up two tracks in your DAW and choose to record input one for the guitar and input 2 for the piano...if you are talking about after you have recorded it you can pan sounds left to right to be able to place them in different speakers...hope that helps?
Ok so it’s picking up the mic audio but it’s extremely low I tryed turning up everything
Is it a condenser mic? If so it will need phantom power...can you see a button on your interface anywhere marked +48?
Hey man if there is a way we can contact so u can show me how to use this band lab on this HP laptop that would be dope lmk please
I'm not currently offering this but it's something I would consider
I have a Scarlett Gen 2 interface and when I set it up for Cakewalk, it shows up and allows me to select it, but no sound and program crashes.
When using the Bandlab website studio, as shown in the video for the guitar recording, I am not able to select my interface for the input setting. Even though the option for my interface is there, I cant select it. It keeps switching back to "No Device". I do not know how to fix this issue.
If I were you I would try Reaper...this video was made for a specific project where they had to use Bandlab but it's not the program I would recommend...try Reaper and let me know if you have the same issue
@@ChasingTheGoose i ended up using Reaper and I got everything to work. Only issue with Reaper when using my interface for my guitar is, i get a static noise coming from my interface. I don't know how to get rid of it completely when using my plug-ins. It's on the master track.
@@brandonsulak I'm glad that worked...a noisy guitar could mean so many things...you could try micing it up in an amp if it's noisy when it's plugged in to the interface....you might just need to try a different lead.
How do I get rid of the delay on the audio after recording
That means it was latent when you were recording...the only real fix for that after you've recorded is to manually drag it back
my mic sounds muffled a bit how do i fix that?
Did you fix this? Make sure you’re singing in to the front of the mic (sounds obvious but it’s a condenser and you are in cardioid it’s worth checking….does it need phantom power (48v)?
@just another side hustle Hey I followed u all the way up until u said you were on a Mac and u had to make sure that it's set to focusrite Scarlett for the mic..u selected focusrite 2 times input and output..I am using a Samsung Galaxybook 2 pro 360 run by windows 11 I believe.how do I make sure my condenser mic is being utilized on my laptop?..I literally am so new to this and I just want to record my vocals thru import or making a beat in the bandlab studio. It's been a very frustrating go. That's why I'm using bandlab RN bc it's a lot more simple the pro DAWs. I'm going to try to switch to Ableton once I can make interface content with bandlab. Thank u
Hey. Most steps should be the same…the difference will be setting the interface as your audio in and out. Find your settings and then go to sound settings and it should be there...you want to set your interface as the input and output!!
@@ChasingTheGoose thank you for getting back to me so quickly. You are honestly the first person on UA-cam that has broken it down to me in a way that was simple and to the point.i know bandlab isn't a real daw but I gotta start somewhere..I've had the Scarlett 4i4 3rd generation for 6 months now and I've been working so hard to beable to create something with it..I was able to get my edifier speakers to run thru my Scarlett Wich I was happy about 😂😂...then I used bandlab to try to create any vocal recording with the Scarlett and i did it by mistake bc I couldn't figure it out again after that..I used the splitter tool that bandlab has now and imported a song of a band that inspired me and I was able to get the song into studio. I got shit from ppl on reddit for doing that but I don't give a fuck im learning this from scratch I have no recording experience and minimal computer experience. Because I have the Scarlet 4i4 3 gen I have to use the focusrite driver because my interface has no buttons on it except for the phantom power and that's also sort of giving me a bit of an issue because the driver is asking me what analogs do I want to set for which inputs for my interface. I'm only going to click air because I'm only using the microphone right now. Each little window on the driver has a little dropdown window that says use as one and two, play from DAW or custom and I don't know what is what.lot to unpack I know...when I record my vocals to the song with just the instrumentals playing, do I have to press record right away and then start singing or do I have to be record the instrumentals first then put my vocals to it?..sorry for all the lame questions
@@exotichordz819 OK, so....on Focusrite Control you should see at the top of the page 'Input Settings and Output Routing'. Your input settings are where you control things you are plugging in. Here you can set whether your analogue inputs (xlr/jack etc) are line level or mic level. The output routing is setting where the audio comes back out. You probably just want to leave this how it is for now. As far as the absolute basics of recording (what order etc)...I have an unlisted video that might help you...it's talking about garageband but it will all still apply. 🙂 ua-cam.com/video/BFAkj8CKnEI/v-deo.html
