To reduce latency for overdubs when recording through plug-ins, lower the buffer size in your DAW as low as possible (usually 64 samples.) While this setting is not always possible, depending on your PC/Mac CPU capability, 128 to 256 samples is almost always acceptable with a track or two with virtually any modern computer. Overdubbing is usually quite acceptable in the 5-10ms range a small buffer size offers. And always turn phantom power off and wait a few seconds to discharge the 12-48volts of current BEFORE unplugging a condenser mic to avoid a “pop” that could destroy a driver!
I watched a number of these types of videos and what makes you the best is you aren't rushing nor taking too long to stress a point but most importantly you assume that the people watching already understand the lingo like DAWS. I watched a video before yours and they kept saying DAWS and never took the time to explain what it meant. But you do did and thats one of the many reasons why you're the best!
Thanks, I'm not even done setting up my gear yet and I can already tell this video is going to help me because I made sense of it without even seeing the DAW I'm downloading.

Thank you for creating the best video to set up focusrite 2i2. I have looked at several videos when I purchased the product. The creators did give instructions, step by step, on how to connect the audio interface to your computer. Kyle, you targeted the right audience, Beginners! I have subscribed to your channel because I know you will do a fantastic job on "how to set up" videos on tech products.
I just ordered a new Scarlett 2i2 online, to be delivered on Wednesday. I had been curious as to whether I could set up the unit such that ALL audio from my computer (including the internet) could be routed through the Scarlett and played on my two monitors. This video showed me I could do that... good news!
@@KingBoog_ The two run concurrently. There's one knob to raise or lower gain in your headphones... and the master knob to raise or lower gain in your monitors.

@@AudioUniversity I’m kinda on a tight right now, I’ll think about upgrading later but what would you say is the cheapest yet good quality audio interface?
I think the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a great start. That’s the interface I use in this video. You can get one for about $170. If that is outside your budget, the Presonus Audiobox USB 96 is a good option for just under $100.

Hello, great instructional video! Quick question... if I wanted to use this device to record multiple tracks for electric guitar, bass, keyboard, and electric drums it should work fine, right?
The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 that I’m using in this video will allow you to record up to 2 tracks at a time. You can layer as many tracks as you want with separate takes. Thanks for watching, San Miguel Tejada!
if I'm going to plug the scarlett into the computer should I use their cable with apple dongle or should I buy a usbc to usbc cable? is there a quality one I should get?
I followed all the instructions provided in your video diligently. Initially, I was able to successfully record, but later on, I encountered an issue where nothing was being recorded. I would greatly appreciate it if you could kindly assist me in resolving this matter.
The Focusrite Scarlett interfaces have a 1/4" stereo TRS output for headphones. So, I just used the cable that came with my headphones. If you have 1/8" (3.5mm) headphones, you can use an adapter - search for a "1/8-inch to 1/4-inch headphone adapter". Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
@@AudioUniversity thanks so much for the reply, the problem is, adapter I have bought only works when I insert it half way into Focusrite headphone port and I'm not sure if this is normal and whether I get the right audio performance, so freaking
Would my interface be affected if it were connected to my computer while the computer was restarting, going into sleep mode, or powering off completely? Same question for a camlink and micro USB connected to a camera?
While I don't expect this would cause damage to these devices, they do get power from your computer, so they won't work while the computer is turned off.
Great video. I sometimes get a crackling noise through the speakers when either listening to sound from my DAW, or the internet. Any idea how this can be resolved? I have TRS cables going from my JBL 305P's into the same interface as this one in the video. Thank you.

The challenge I’m having… I’m running the Scarlett condenser mic for vocals, and plugging my acoustic in directly for an instrument. When I record with both of them I still get some acoustic in my vocal mic. How do I fix this? Or is this normal?
Hi! Thanks for the guide. Can you confirm one thing about the headphone jack before i purchase? I have a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones with a 6,3mm jack. If i plug these into the front, am i able to hear sound from the pc such as music and games and my own voice for monitoring?
Hello Blue Monk! :) If you don't want to record through a microphone, why do you need an audio interface at all? For example I just want to turn on Ableton Live, draw some MIDI notes and listen to it through my PC speakers. What would the audio interface change here? Thanks!

If you plan to record to a stand-alone recorder, I don’t think you will find an audio interface helpful. If you decide to record to a computer, you will definitely need one.
Hello Kyle, I bought Mackie CR4 studio monitors and I'm going to play and record my guitar, just to be clear, I didn't see you test and show us this, can you play the guitar while recording and hear it from studio monitors , not headphones?
You can do this when recording an electric guitar directly connected to the interface. But anytime you record with a microphone, you need to use headphones so the sound from the speakers doesn’t get into the microphone.
Great video. Quick question. If you.are able to help. I bought a Tape Machine earlier today (Tandberg Series 15) and I am able to record from the tape machine into Ableton. But I am struggling on what to do to record from Ableton back into the tape machine. I am using a Focusrite 18i6. I am wondering what I would set my outputs to in the Focusrite mixrack
I would recommend setting up a pair of outputs on the Focusrite to send a stereo feed to the tape machine. This would be configured in Ableton and Focusrite Control.
Hello I got a question I want to record some songs with my guitar on my daw But I never did that, and I want to connect my amp to my interface but I don’t find any “line out” on it (my amp) and I don’t want to use vst because I’m not a fan of “numerical sound” (in French it makes sense 😅) Can I use the rec out/ phones output ? (I’m French I’m sorry if you see any mistakes And I hope you’ll understand me 💀) Btw great video 👍🏾
Yes. You can use the rec out / phones output or you can place a microphone on the speaker, as shown in this video: ua-cam.com/video/bg-l4deByes/v-deo.html
I just opened up my studio for booking at my current office space where I usually just make beats. I've experienced latency with my scarlett 2i2 3rd gen and some static/vnyl noise coming out on vocals. I am still on a budget as I am currently spending $ on bills and other products. Im not really focusing on sessions with bands where I need so many input connections. The Mic I'm currently using is a Warm wa87. Is there a Audio Interface you recommend to use for now to upgrade from my Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen if the Apollo Twin is out the picture? PSA if I gotta make it happen ill get the more expensive recommendation.
Hello, thank you for the great video. I am using the scarlett 2i4 for seminars with a couple of lecturers in a big conference. We need to buy a couple of powerful speakers. What type of speakers do you recommend? Powered or non powered speakers to connect them directly on the interface?
I would probably recommend some powered speakers on speaker stands. It depends on how large of an area you need to cover, but I like QSC powered speakers, like the K12.2.
Thank you so much! I wanna check that can my friend and I record 2 guitars tracks in the meanwhile with this interface? Can we check our sounds through output through monitors instead of headphones? Thanks again!
So I use a guitar fx unit into my input and I output to studio monitors. I like to practice using my desktop audio via USB (3rd gen) and guitar but I notice the sound quality goes down when I hit stereo monitor. If it is off my desktop audio quality is much fuller. How would I fix this because it makes the audio drown out one or the other sound sources

Awesome video, thank you. How would the setup be if I wanted to record vocal with a backing track?
Good job man very informative.
Novice here…how do I record/sync video to match sound? And what program would be most user friendly? Thanks
Hello
I got a question
I want to record some songs with my guitar on my daw
But I never did that, and I want to connect my amp to my interface but I don’t find any “line out” on it (my amp) and I don’t want to use vst because I’m not a fan of “numerical sound” (in French it makes sense 😅)
Can I use the rec out/ phones output ? (I’m French I’m sorry if you see any mistakes
And I hope you’ll understand me 💀)
Btw great video 👍🏾
Yes. You can use the rec out / phones output or you can place a microphone on the speaker, as shown in this video: ua-cam.com/video/bg-l4deByes/v-deo.html
@@AudioUniversity thank you 🙏🏾
That unit does everything a sound card does except "better" right? it has an amp? just clarifying that it does everything.
I freaking love you man thanks for the help this is what I needed
Thankyou for this helpful video!
This was so clear and helpful thank you!
This was extremely helpful thank you so much man!
Can i use Windows Dolby Atmos (for my headphones) using the Scarlett 2i2 as a card? Thx
@@AudioUniversity Thank you very much for your prompt reply!!
Thank you so much! I wanna check that can my friend and I record 2 guitars tracks in the meanwhile with this interface?
Can we check our sounds through output through monitors instead of headphones?
Thanks again!
Thanks so much! Subscribed. Making music here soon!
What kind or what software are you using. Like what studio?
Please sir make a video difference between open Headphones and close headphones and why it's use please
Great suggestion! Thanks, utkal!
So clear and wonderful, thank you👌👌👌👌😊😊😊😊😊😊
So I use a guitar fx unit into my input and I output to studio monitors.
I like to practice using my desktop audio via USB (3rd gen) and guitar but I notice the sound quality goes down when I hit stereo monitor. If it is off my desktop audio quality is much fuller.
How would I fix this because it makes the audio drown out one or the other sound sources
