as much as I love his table, the logic behind this video is VERY flawed and it will keep you from expanding a hobby into anything bigger than a small, struggling, inconsistent side business. first off for ambitious entrepreneurs, this video completely misses the concept of QUALITY vs VALUE., or knowing when to hold the minimum base value of a table vs when to rethink your strategy to build the same table more effectively and efficiently so you can charge customers less. A good businessman can sell anything, even low value shit, if he can increase the item's valuation above his competition by finding efficiency+affordability to stay below competition price-cost. But this concept doesn't work with morleykert because of his "self-assumed" personal hourly salary, cost of materials and instruments, and even rent that he adds as an expense, which should start decreasing after period of time because it's is essentially asking his buyers to pay for every mistake, wasted time, learning experience, and inconsistency he has made in the past. after some point, he can't keep charging people for renting or buying a machine or charge them for the roof over it, that's an added fee that someone else can use to undercut you after finding a cheaper way to do it. These guarantees should only be given if he offers something that NO ONE other than himself can offer, because otherwise it's a loss he's passing onto his buyer who could have probably saved money and value through a different seller with the SAME skills, better time management and efficiency. you understand what i'm saying? if someone can make this exact table for a price of $100 and make a profit off it, that's the price, no matter what morleykert tries to say. people aren't being cheap, it just means the seller needs to adapt. tldr: the cost of your services is determined retroactively, as in backwards. quality is subjective. however, having to convince someone of the quality of something that noone agrees on is a bad start, or a genius marketing move.
It's also a custom one-off. Those will be always cheaper. Because there is no market for them. Like with custom shoes, they're not official so how do you know what you need to pay for them.
You should not ask costumers to buy by explaining overhead or your wage. You should create something that your target costumers want to buy for the price you sell it as. Costumers don’t care of fair price they want the best deal so you need to offer something they want at a price they can’t beat elsewhere

@Ms. Unknown I wouldn't buy that ugly table. Just cause something is handmade doesn't make it a piece of art. Being cheap and making wise decisions on how to spend your money are 2 different things. This table will not appreciate in value. But since you have all the money in the world, he is selling it so you can purchase it.
1200$ for 18 hours of work is not an excellent rundown of why it costs what it does. My Amish table made from repourpesed bourbon barrel staves cost $ 500 less lmfao.
the haircuts look cool, though. that table sucks. it's derivative, overly complicated, unnecesaryly fragile. and he even wants to make 90 dollars an hour for building this crap
$2k for this seems eminently reasonable, for what it is. Its lovely, though I have no particular desire to own it myself. I have seem people trying to sell items with less work in them for 10 times more, which is absurd, but you're being very reasonable with that ask.
Man, sometimes I just want a nice coffee table that isn’t covered in triangles. But hey, whatever people will pay for. I mean, you can get a coffee table for $200, $2,000 or $20,000. It’s still a coffee table I guess
I don't see how he can spend 18 hours actively working on this unless he learned how to use CAD software doing it and/or watched the epoxy dry to make sure it didn't grow legs and bolt out the door
In the UK on BBC1 there is this tv show thats very similar to what you do.. its called: Money for Nothing. Presenter Sarah Moore goes to places like tips/dumps and takes things people are throwing away and she has a team of people who upcycle the stuff into something awesome like a door into a table etc. Your videos remind me so much of that show!
Also just because you have put expensive materials in it and the time and effort doesn't mean someone's gonna just buy it. People don't care how much materials cost or how much time you invested and how much money you would wanna get hourly. They care about the product, what it looks like and if it's quality. It's up to the customer to decide if they like it. It can be a thousand dollar table but someone might as well buy something else that was 20 dollars and be just as happy. Trying to impress a customer by saying how much you spent is gonna do nothing but deter said customer from your product.
I like the table a lot. I might do somethign like this for my custom desk. Though I may still end up using maple butcher block and then using a router to route out all of the led lights, wireless charger and a number of other things.

While i may disagree with the price, I do not: -tell them that their art is worth less that what they are selling it as -beg them to sell it to me for a lesser price. I do: -keep scrolling after appriciating the art -buy a less ornate table for $50 off of amazon, and if i really want to, decorate it myself.
That is not an explanation of the price, that is merely what you have to consider to determine whether it was worth making it in the first place. An explanation of the price is about demonstrable quality and market research (what does similar quality sell for)
People are treating this like it’s an IKEA coffee table you can find anywhere. It’s also a custom one-off. Those will always be more expensive.
as much as I love his table, the logic behind this video is VERY flawed and it will keep you from expanding a hobby into anything bigger than a small, struggling, inconsistent side business.
first off for ambitious entrepreneurs, this video completely misses the concept of QUALITY vs VALUE., or knowing when to hold the minimum base value of a table vs when to rethink your strategy to build the same table more effectively and efficiently so you can charge customers less.
Yeah so is a one off cat poo on my lawn, and for that reason I'm out
it doesn't matter it's a one-off, the quality of materials and the design of the table doesn't warrant the price. It's an extremely simple table.
Rose clearly just clout chasing and trolling a bit. If you go on his channel, there’s only one video with an ad on it.
You should not ask costumers to buy by explaining overhead or your wage. You should create something that your target costumers want to buy for the price you sell it as. Costumers don’t care of fair price they want the best deal so you need to offer something they want at a price they can’t beat elsewhere
Exactly why I got into woodworking. I’m not knocking you, make that money. I’m fortunate enough that Woodworking isn’t my only source of income. I sell my work way cheaper. Would honestly sell that table for about 200 since I got the material free. It is a nice looking table. And like you said, it’s all worth what some one is really to pay. We just target diff people. Keep up the good work.
Yo love it! Love the table, love the explanation, love the pricing, love that you’re willing to negotiate!
Yeah absolutely. Some people would be like, take the price or leave it, but this guy recognizes that sometimes you can't always get what you want and is willing to consider tradeoffs
5 bucks with 20% shipping tax on my side and we got a deal.
As a person who crafts stuff myself, I say this with the utmost respect, this video didn't need to be made. You are a craftsman. You sell it for what you think it is worth. No explanation is needed. On a side note, that is a very beautiful table you made.
I have a feeling the price will drop to 250 sooner or later.
$150 is the maximum price I would ever pay for a coffee table. A local carpenter doesn't have such tantrums 😂😂
I remember you at just 40 thousand subscribers, happy to have seen you grown a lot!
People: WHY don’t PEOPLE MAKE STUFF TO LAST ANYMORE
People when faced with exactly that: “ItS tOo eXpEnSiVe”
Is this built to last or built to look good?
I’m genuinely asking because I wouldn’t think a resign table would be super durable/high quality automatically. It’s mostly aesthetic. Right?
@@EroticInferno it should be durable if not exposed to sunlight
@@EroticInferno all i know is a crapton of time, effort, and good quality materials went into this table. Even if the resin yellows, my point still stands, that this is still better than an imea particleboard desk, and ikea already costs 50-300$. People just need to stop turning their noses up at the prices it takes to pay people to do good work, the american society is literally built on cutting corners and exploitation. People thing its normal to pay 120$ for a desk and so get mad and claim scam when someone makes a good quality desk and charges a reasonable labor and markup

And you assume the quality of this table is higher than ikea... but how do you know that based on only the perception from his self-biased price and a self-published video convincing you it's worth more than other people determined? that's exactly what he wants, and it's the most foolish way of determining the quality of anything.

I don't think an epoxy table is lasting that long

Why don't you just download it?

This is an amazing table. And a great rundown of why it costs what it does.... People have no idea of what is involved for the most part....
1200$ for 18 hours of work is not an excellent rundown of why it costs what it does. My Amish table made from repourpesed bourbon barrel staves cost $ 500 less lmfao.
Tool depreciation XD. I love it
How to know that your product isn't selling well: *"Make me an offer"* 😂
"3, take it or leave it."
Did he realize no one is paying 2k for a table so he said make an offer
methinks yes
This makes way more sense than the UA-cam barbers charging $300 for a 20 minute haircut!
the haircuts look cool, though. that table sucks. it's derivative, overly complicated, unnecesaryly fragile. and he even wants to make 90 dollars an hour for building this crap
Worth every dollar you’re asking for 🙌
$2k for this seems eminently reasonable, for what it is. Its lovely, though I have no particular desire to own it myself.
I have seem people trying to sell items with less work in them for 10 times more, which is absurd, but you're being very reasonable with that ask.
Tbh, your coffee table is an interesting model
Just leaving a comment to say this is so gorgeous. I absolutely love it. ❤️
Man, sometimes I just want a nice coffee table that isn’t covered in triangles. But hey, whatever people will pay for.
I mean, you can get a coffee table for $200, $2,000 or $20,000. It’s still a coffee table I guess

Who the hell adds the rent to their paycheck bruh
I'd pay 850 it actually don't look half bad too bad im 12 and don't have any money or a house to put it in 😔
Who told this man to charge himself 90$ for an hour?
I don't see how he can spend 18 hours actively working on this unless he learned how to use CAD software doing it and/or watched the epoxy dry to make sure it didn't grow legs and bolt out the door
@@justalonelypoteto 💀💀. Half of the video was just an exaggeration. 18 hours might be a cap to justify the price tag
It’s worth every cent. It’s stunning! Bless whoever gets this beautiful piece of art!

Thanks for teaching what goes into pricing custom work! It gave me and idea (along with other resources) how much my mom should price her art.
not this much that's for sure
Damn 92/ hr dollars in labor? When you work for yourself you really can pay yourself whatever.
Is this still available? Possible shipping?
U made it in less than a days worth of time and spent about 250 bucks and rly expect 2k?! U tripping
I like the table a lot. I might do somethign like this for my custom desk. Though I may still end up using maple butcher block and then using a router to route out all of the led lights, wireless charger and a number of other things.
my guy thinks hes worth 92 dollars an hour to make a mid table
....you really don't understand how handmade production works despite the fact that he just explained it all.... that's kind of sad, honestly.

@@Delicate_Disaster Im sorry but the resign took most of the time in that process. 92 dollars an hour is over 8 times the minimum wage, the tool thing isnt valid either since tools are meant to last thousands of uses.
people make art and sell it at a price they think people will pay. While i may disagree with the price, I do not:
-tell them that their art is worth less that what they are selling it as
-beg them to sell it to me for a lesser price.
I do:
-keep scrolling after appriciating the art
-buy a less ornate table for $50 off of amazon, and if i really want to, decorate it myself.
How about $4.34. I might be able to rase it to $4.89 if you add in a flower to go on the table.
everytime you forget to put your cup on a saucer your wallet cries a little louder 😂

If there’s moisture trapped in the wood it will completely destroy the table, did you account for that?
That is not an explanation of the price, that is merely what you have to consider to determine whether it was worth making it in the first place. An explanation of the price is about demonstrable quality and market research (what does similar quality sell for)
That's nice thing about working in Europe instead of the US, you have a ton of spare time. If I want a a cool table I can just make one myself.

People are treating this like it’s an IKEA coffee table you can find anywhere. The price is obviously not for everyone but it’s for the people who want to spend a good amount on a custom table and understand/accept the price. I would personally not buy this but I could completely understand why someone (who can afford it) would.
It’s worth over 300$ based on resin cost alone, but idk about 2k, I’d say like 650-900$
