Glad to see this opinion well represented in the comments. This is the only real disagreement I have with this list. Alive 2007, more than any other album shows a unique aspect of the band's creativity in being able to mashup their own work so effectively. That was just so mind-blowing to me when I first heard it and for me that's what sets Daft Punk apart from any acts they might be compared with.
they are almost 50 years only and been doing this basically for my whole life, I wouldn't fault em for it. Edit: I'm 20 I know thats not very old but 2 decades is a long time to do anything, let alone tour regularly and come up with good ideas.

The contrast between the two Alive records is so interesting to me. ‘97 is aggressive and free flowing, while ‘07 is calculated and clean cut. One made by humans, the other by robots. Daft Punk’s most underrated skill to me is their commitment to and execution of concepts musically, both of the Alive records being evident of that.

But like seriously though, it is easily better than Homework. No disrespect to that album but like, come on. It’s RAM. Every song is either an a fantastic pop song, dance epic, or grand futurist statement. Easily one of the best albums of the past decade, and a good strong 9/10.

Hmmm that’d certainly be interesting. I don’t really know if their production styles would go together all that well. Daft Punk is much tighter, while Gorillaz seems like they dick around a bit/try to go outside of established conventions to make weird melodies

I was genuinely surprised when he gave RAM a B after everything he said leading up to the album and what he said about it. It is without a doubt their most realized concept album, an absolute tour-de-force in genre explorations and a love letter to music. There are maybe 2 or 3 meh songs on the album, but I can say the same thing about any of their albums. It managed to have commercial appeal and alternative appeal, which tends to be rare. The collaborations are not only well-executed but their appearances also fit perfectly within the concept's scope like beautiful tapestry. And the arrangements on the album are so wonderful, and put it a cinematic step above their other work. Maybe songs like Within and Touch weren't for everyone, but damn, they are some of my favorites the duo has done, and transcend their music above dance into something different altogether. S Tier.

Sometimes we just need music that can take us away to a different world, to a different time; that can make us relive some of our favourite memories. RAM is that album for me; it truly is magical, and in that aspect, I love RAM more than I do Discovery. I just can't downplay how much I love it because of how high quality and well-realized it is. You can tell the duo put their heart and soul into the album, and I adored how thematically the whole album is a tribute to music itself.
Agreed; Touch is absolutely breathtaking. I mean come on, you can't tell me that a keen, unbiased listener, won't sit back and at least be impressed by the creativity and efficacy of the musical passages in that song.
RAM is an amazing album, but Discovery is something else, man. If you want a upbeat music, you got One More Time, Aerodynamic, HBFS, Too Long etc. If you want a more slower, melancholic type of songs, you have Digital Love, Something About Us, NightVision and Veridis Quo. Its has variety and its really THE Daft Punk album.

Veridis quo is my all time favorite tracks from Daft Punk, it just hits so deep for me, I just crank the volume and close my eyes, makes me want to tear up when I listen to it and when I saw the news that they were calling it quits I did end up shedding a few tears while listening to it, I don't think we'll ever see a another song quite like it honestly
While I of course love their bangers, chill tracks like Something About Us and Make Love are easily two of my favorite songs from their catalog. Love the sounds in both of them.

it wasn't a dj set, it was a live set. the only difference is that they were playing it via ableton + some other equipment in comparison to alive 1997, that's why it is so seamless and polished
@@marceloaguirree that you can play either from classic vinyl turntables or play from digital cdj players (where you can plug in a usb stick or a flash card). both of them work on a "deck" basis, meaning that you're playing reproduced music and you're spinning the "plate". and you're matching the tempo of two different songs to make seamless blends. whereas an live set is playing not a whole record, but only parts of a particular song via computer or via machines (drums -> synthesizers -> bassline etc). you just layer them and that's it - this works particularly for playing your own stuff (or if you own someone's stems).

"Crescendolls" is my least favorite song in Discovery (I might be in the minority for thinking that), but regardless of that one track, I could listen to that whole album and never get bored. Discovery is by far their best album with some of the most memorable music of all time. I however, would put RAM at an A list. It got record of the year at the time of its release, which is awesome, well deserved. And while I know many people believe "Get Lucky" has been overplayed (I among those people), the rest of the album is just a gold mine of funky bass lines and great melodies that are literally built with heart and soul. I could listen to Fragments of Time, Touch, and Instant Crush on repeat all day lol.

I can understand not loving Human After All, but you have to give it credit for its value in their live album Alive 2007. The tracks from Human complement and mesh with tracks from Homework and Discovery perfectly, almost as if that was why the studio album was made to begin with. If you haven't given Alive 2007 a listen, you're missing out on a terrific live mashup of Daft Punk's best tracks across their first 3 albums. Oh, and it's a great workout album as well.
He nailed how i feel about discovery. I remember at 9 years old watching the premiere of the anime on Toonami and even at that age going "What the fuck is this". I heard One More Time and knew that was the first day of the rest of Daft Punks career.
Remember being driven to the beach on my 18th birthday to "Human After All/Superheroes" just jamming out to that final bit with friends yelling "human" for a solid minute. Good times
Got me into house music. And got me and countless other kids messing around with mixing house music. They decided to end it on a high note. They influenced an entire genre, and inspired an entire generation of musicians.
Tron: Legacy and RAM should each be bumped up one tier but otherwise good video, Melon. I personally love the raw, dirty sound of Human After All, but I get the ear fatigue stance for sure.
Should be S or at least A. I dont really see, how this could it be any better ... I watched this (not so great) movie far too often just for the atmosphere created by the visuals and music.

The fusion of Around the World and HBFS in Alive 2007 works so insanely well that it's genuinely hard to believe that they're songs off of two different albums separated by four years. The individual tracks almost feel like two halves of a torn photo to me.
Anthony, putting the Tron soundtrack at S tier and then ending the video is very disappointing to some daft punk fans and you may get some backlash for that

I’ve always said that Steam Machine is incredibly underrated. I love that slight switch up on the last minute of the song. I feel like it had more variety than some of the other tracks in Human After All.
For me it would be: S Discovery A Random Access Memories, Alive 2007 B Tron soundtrack, Homework C Human After All, Alive 1997 Discovery is one of my favorite albums of all time. There isn't a single skip every song is so good.
I honestly think Alive 2007 is their best record, for me it’s the way they pull from across their entire discography yet create an experience that feels completely cohesive and fresh even if you’ve already heard the studio cuts of these tracks, the mashups are always fun and complementary pairings, and the flow and build up from one track to the next keeps me hooked every time. and that fucking crowd man, the audience has this infectious energy and I love the way they react when they heard the first few beats of a track they recognize and freak out once they realize what they’re playing. All the tracks are in perfect synergy, the duo and their audience are in perfect synergy, just a perfect fucking record man. It makes me genuinely sad that I’ll never get to experience that performance in person, but anytime I throw on the record I feel like I’m practically there. Very well said. I love seeing all of the praise for Alive 2007 in this thread. Alive 2007 was the album that got me into Daft Punk like ten years ago (when I was 14) and it's now one of my favorite records. The last song on the album in particular may be one of my favorite songs ever.

Their remix and melding of Television Rules the Nation and Crescendolls off of Alive 2007 is my very favorite Daft Punk song. if you watch the other tier lists you'll see that a B tier is pretty much an 8 all of the times. that means that an A tier is a 9 and S tier is a 10 (melon confirmed Discovery is a ten yay), as that is true for most of his tierlists (for example, look at the Beastie Boys one, the Queens Of The Stone Age, the Drake one)

Happy to see Discovery with the S tier. Nothing will top that. "Beyond" off of RAM was probably one of the top 3 songs in that Album, shit makes me cry, not even out of sadness, but it just hits so well, and the flow and lyrics are just so damn beautiful.
Alive 2007 is S and RAM is A for me. Alive 2007 was absolutely revolutionary and set the bar for performance value in an electronic music scene, and also inspired countless people with their creativeness in a performance that (to my knowledge) hadn’t been done like that before. Multiple songs seemlessly and perfectly blended and mixed together to make something that sounded brand new and exclusive. I have been listening to this album for the past 13 years (since I was 9 in 2008) and I listen to it nearly every single day. And I will not stop doing that.
I think I share mostly all the same opinions as you here. as a musician going up during their career it was awe inspiring what they were doing with their music. I feel like they definitely had an influence into what I create today. if I had to change three ratings on this tier list based off how I personally perceived these albums I would swap “human after all” & “alive 1997” then bump up “R.E.M” to a S rank. for me their final project really sang true everything the duo felt defined music thru their particular lens of life. it was as if the two were trying to show its listeners who may be more in tune to the house music they were creating; that there is this vast world of music still left out there to be seen and through the lens of Daft Punk this is how that world looks. maybe I’m looking to deep into things but there was always something about this album that I found beautiful in some profound way. & I think with this announcement it further cements that for me as this duos final goodbye. anyways fantastic video can’t wait for the next!
RAM is always a funny one for me - there is no doubt it's a brilliant album, and I guess for a lot of the audience this is their homework/discovery - those old timers who experienced the absolute sonic masterclass of homework and then the absolute joy of discovery maybe are a bit more set in their ways that Daft Punk really, at their core, create outstanding house music. I really struggle to fully love RAM, I think its a great piece of work but I agree with the placing here. Also another shout for Alive 2007 to be on a par with discovery

Hmmm that’d certainly be interesting. I don’t really know if their production styles would go together all that well. Daft Punk is much tighter, while Gorillaz seems like they dick around a bit/try to go outside of established conventions to make weird melodies

I was genuinely surprised when he gave RAM a B after everything he said leading up to the album and what he said about it. It is without a doubt their most realized concept album, an absolute tour-de-force in genre explorations and a love letter to music. There are maybe 2 or 3 meh songs on the album, but I can say the same thing about any of their albums. It managed to have commercial appeal and alternative appeal, which tends to be rare. The collaborations are not only well-executed but their appearances also fit perfectly within the concept's scope like beautiful tapestry. And the arrangements on the album are so wonderful, and put it a cinematic step above their other work. Maybe songs like Within and Touch weren't for everyone, but damn, they are some of my favorites the duo has done, and transcend their music above dance into something different altogether. S Tier.

@@TimFerber I agree. No one can deny the impact Discovery had, but does every album need to be something super experimental that pushes the boundaries of music? Sometimes we just need music that can take us away to a different world, to a different time; that can make us relive some of our favourite memories.
RAM is that album for me; it truly is magical, and in that aspect, I love RAM more than I do Discovery. I just can't downplay how much I love it because of how high quality and well-realized it is. You can tell the duo put their heart and soul into the album, and I adored how thematically the whole album is a tribute to music itself.
Agreed; Touch is absolutely breathtaking. I mean come on, you can't tell me that a keen, unbiased listener, won't sit back and at least be impressed by the creativity and efficacy of the musical passages in that song.
RAM is an amazing album, but Discovery is something else, man. If you want a upbeat music, you got One More Time, Aerodynamic, HBFS, Too Long etc. If you want a more slower, melancholic type of songs, you have Digital Love, Something About Us, NightVision and Veridis Quo. Its has variety and its really THE Daft Punk album.
Discovery and RAM are examples on how to make an almost flawless electronic record.

Veridis quo is my all time favorite tracks from Daft Punk, it just hits so deep for me, I just crank the volume and close my eyes, makes me want to tear up when I listen to it and when I saw the news that they were calling it quits I did end up shedding a few tears while listening to it, I don't think we'll ever see a another song quite like it honestly

it wasn't a dj set, it was a live set. the only difference is that they were playing it via ableton + some other equipment in comparison to alive 1997, that's why it is so seamless and polished

whereas an live set is playing not a whole record, but only parts of a particular song via computer or via machines (drums -> synthesizers -> bassline etc). you just layer them and that's it - this works particularly for playing your own stuff (or if you own someone's stems).
id like to say that porter robinson’s worlds live and nurture live sets are as great, but 2007 beats literally all of the competition.

Got to see them live not but 2 or 3 years ago here in Colorado. They still sounded great! A lil hoarse on the vocals but singing absolute fire for 50 years will do that!

"Crescendolls" is my least favorite song in Discovery (I might be in the minority for thinking that), but regardless of that one track, I could listen to that whole album and never get bored. Discovery is by far their best album with some of the most memorable music of all time.
I however, would put RAM at an A list. It got record of the year at the time of its release, which is awesome, well deserved. And while I know many people believe "Get Lucky" has been overplayed (I among those people), the rest of the album is just a gold mine of funky bass lines and great melodies that are literally built with heart and soul. I could listen to Fragments of Time, Touch, and Instant Crush on repeat all day lol.

I can understand not loving Human After All, but you have to give it credit for its value in their live album Alive 2007. The tracks from Human complement and mesh with tracks from Homework and Discovery perfectly, almost as if that was why the studio album was made to begin with.
If you haven't given Alive 2007 a listen, you're missing out on a terrific live mashup of Daft Punk's best tracks across their first 3 albums. Oh, and it's a great workout album as well.
He nailed how i feel about discovery. I remember at 9 years old watching the premiere of the anime on Toonami and even at that age going "What the fuck is this". I heard One More Time and knew that was the first day of the rest of Daft Punks career.

The fusion of Around the World and HBFS in Alive 2007 works so insanely well that it's genuinely hard to believe that they're songs off of two different albums separated by four years. The individual tracks almost feel like two halves of a torn photo to me.

I’ve always said that Steam Machine is incredibly underrated. I love that slight switch up on the last minute of the song. I feel like it had more variety than some of the other tracks in Human After All.

Discovery is one of my favorite albums of all time. There isn't a single skip every song is so good.
I honestly think Alive 2007 is their best record, for me it’s the way they pull from across their entire discography yet create an experience that feels completely cohesive and fresh even if you’ve already heard the studio cuts of these tracks, the mashups are always fun and complementary pairings, and the flow and build up from one track to the next keeps me hooked every time. and that fucking crowd man, the audience has this infectious energy and I love the way they react when they heard the first few beats of a track they recognize and freak out once they realize what they’re playing. All the tracks are in perfect synergy, the duo and their audience are in perfect synergy, just a perfect fucking record man. It makes me genuinely sad that I’ll never get to experience that performance in person, but anytime I throw on the record I feel like I’m practically there. I listened to it three times today when I heard the news of their retirement. It never gets old. Rock on Daft Punk
Very well said. I love seeing all of the praise for Alive 2007 in this thread. Alive 2007 was the album that got me into Daft Punk like ten years ago (when I was 14) and it's now one of my favorite records. The last song on the album in particular may be one of my favorite songs ever.

Their remix and melding of Television Rules the Nation and Crescendolls off of Alive 2007 is my very favorite Daft Punk song. if you watch the other tier lists you'll see that a B tier is pretty much an 8 all of the times. that means that an A tier is a 9 and S tier is a 10 (melon confirmed Discovery is a ten yay), as that is true for most of his tierlists (for example, look at the Beastie Boys one, the Queens Of The Stone Age, the Drake one)

Alive 2007 is S and RAM is A for me. Alive 2007 was absolutely revolutionary and set the bar for performance value in an electronic music scene, and also inspired countless people with their creativeness in a performance that (to my knowledge) hadn’t been done like that before. Multiple songs seemlessly and perfectly blended and mixed together to make something that sounded brand new and exclusive. I have been listening to this album for the past 13 years (since I was 9 in 2008) and I listen to it nearly every single day. And I will not stop doing that.
Daft Punk really were one of the most influential acts this century in music, sad to see them go after an incredible career ❤️
I think I share mostly all the same opinions as you here. as a musician going up during their career it was awe inspiring what they were doing with their music. I feel like they definitely had an influence into what I create today.
if I had to change three ratings on this tier list based off how I personally perceived these albums I would swap “human after all” & “alive 1997” then bump up “R.E.M” to a S rank. for me their final project really sang true everything the duo felt defined music thru their particular lens of life. it was as if the two were trying to show its listeners who may be more in tune to the house music they were creating; that there is this vast world of music still left out there to be seen and through the lens of Daft Punk this is how that world looks. maybe I’m looking to deep into things but there was always something about this album that I found beautiful in some profound way. & I think with this announcement it further cements that for me as this duos final goodbye.

RAM is always a funny one for me - there is no doubt it's a brilliant album, and I guess for a lot of the audience this is their homework/discovery - those old timers who experienced the absolute sonic masterclass of homework and then the absolute joy of discovery maybe are a bit more set in their ways that Daft Punk really, at their core, create outstanding house music. I really struggle to fully love RAM, I think its a great piece of work but I agree with the placing here.
Also another shout for Alive 2007 to be on a par with discovery
