    Daft Punk has been popular/successful for pretty much two decades. It took mainstream America almost as long to get on board. We see it all the time: when it comes to foreign artists, the U.S. is often late to the party.

    Success in US has happened in the last few years in light of the EDM popularity with Kanye sampling and collabs with Pharrell bringing it to a mainstream US audience. Daft Punk has always been successful outside the US.

      @OldSchool I knew of Daft Punk in 1999 when a friend had me listen to Homework. In Ohio. In the sticks. But yes, played on the radio - mainstream? Meh.. a little on MTV back through the 2000s, but then people stopped watching MTV for videos, so ... yeah... Not mainstream all that much till Get Lucky.

      RAM is their best album IMO. Been a fan since Discovery and i think it's amazing.

    • @a7c777
      @a7c777 Рік тому +3

      RAM is a great album on its own but i think not a representative album for what the house group Daft Punk was. It’s more of a cinematic album rather than it was a house album. I think it was like a “Thank you funk and disco for all the memories and boundary pushing that led to modern house music” than it was “lets make our OWN STYLE of music” (granted it was made BY Daft Punk so it still had a sound that was uniquely their own). It put a spotlight on the latter half of the funk/disco genre rather than on the music of Daft Punk themselves. It’s more of a side project love letter to music than a /Daft Punk/ record. Discovery displayed a sense of optimism and wonder for the music of the future, while RAM communicated an appreciation for the past. I think Discovery is the best DAFT PUNK album and important to revolutionizing edm/house music genre and its perspectives as a whole but RAM is an important homage in music history to i think to mainly other music producers over their music listeners. Discovery established a UNIQUE identity to house music, while RAM thanks the past that led to it. Totally understandable and healthy to dislike the RAM album and prefer discovery if you’re a house music fan, and judging by the members’ interviews they seem to agree because it wasn’t/meant/ for them but it was still a gift to all people whether or not they wanted to receive it or not

    • @a7c777
      @a7c777 Рік тому +1

      @x Homework was them at their rawest stage when they were house musicians, but it was a compilation of singles. The mixing wasnt done as masterfully or with as much intention as the latter albums, not even over “Human after all”, so I wouldnt say /untouchable/. BUT many of the singles on there pushed the envelope for the house music genre and I think its still a revolutionary album for motivating experimentation in the world of edm, a genre that was otherwise considered as “lazy” and “repetitive” at the time by many critics

    Kinda sad watching these kids cos they have been sold this idea that electronic music is a new thing when in fact they are just really late to the party.
    American marketers realized they couldn't sell it well in America as it had gotten too complicated in Europe with different genres and micro-genres so they whitewashed all progress and sold it under bullshít coined term EDM.

    Get lucky might have been their breakthrough in the (mainstream) US pop charts, they were already massively popular in the 90's in Europe. One more time and Around the world were top hits in the UK and France (and apparently Belgium?) and those singles were played pretty much daily for weeks on radio.

    it was a good react video, I've waited for it for so long. but I'm a bit disapointed though. Daft Punk didn't "explode" with the RAM album, they were already legends. I remember when it was released in 2013 so many people were freaking out, like it's been since 2007 since we heard of them. But the "Alive 2007" tour was massive, all their albums were already masterpieces So to say that they became worldwide known thanks to collaborating with famous artists like Pharell and the Weeknd is a bit... though it helped them I don't deny it.
