The neighbours had a 4WD 590 back in the day. We used to call the 4WD hubs pier knockers. “Take the 590 with ya and mind the pier knockers going in the gate!”👍🏻
Never liked the 500 series Massey back in the day but now I'm liking them. Neighbour had a 590 multi power with a turbo and it was a savage tractor never gave trouble and did a pile of work . Great video again
A serious message, it needs to be said. A man does not mean, I'm strong and don't need help ask just ask and help is where you do not expect it. Mental health is real--Ask, speak, and do not feel alone.
vintage thursday takes me back to a Fordson Major, with original air conditioning - no windows or doors - from 1951 i think it was. good memories of that
Father Phil absolute gem of a man Phil💎 Thanks for these videos lad i could listen to him talking about tractors all day. Roll on next Thursdays one (i voted 135) 👌🏻🙌🏻
Loved this video. We bought a 590 brand new in 78/79. 2 wheel drive with a mf80 loader. Class bit of kit at the time. Single door and grey on top half just as papa bear was saying. Almost identical to the 185 but just a little more refined. Great channel this. Keep her lit farmer Phil.
First tractor I ever drove was my fathers MF 575 4-wheel drive that he bought new in Norway 1978. Had a aftermarket turbo, two doors and silver on top of cab. Traded it in for a good used MF3060 in the late 90’s. What a world of difference 10 years of development did to Massey Ferguson! Think I might still have growth defects in my fingers from those 575 doors lol.
Don't forget.. he's getting into good sub numbers... so UA-cam is paying ok. If he gets into the 100 thousands.. maybe the fresians will be history.. then again.. no fresians equals no farming.. lol. Keep up the good work Phil..
Jeez Daddy is an encyclopedia. So many cool tractors You have . Its Thanksgiving day here in America. Thanks to your family Phil for doing what you do ! FARMING & You help bring the world to others
Great video. Would be great to see a few videos of ye fixing up the 590 and the 6290 in the workshop, like when Gerry did the clean up job on his 2850.
I use to drive one of these growing up and had to turn on the 4wd myself 😂a tortoise and a hare was the only two speed settings god them were the days 590 Massey one step ftw 😅
We used to have an old 4wd drive 575. Great tractor..I loved the pull on the steering wheel. The worst thing was trying to close the doors. Absolute knightmare..
I know I am 2 years late comming to this, but check the Multipower filter beside the radiator right hand side from seated position as far as I can remember, as it also does the PTO, so you could cure 2 birds with 1 stone, There are also coolers and such in front, so not just a rad and battery and a box of space.
My dad got a brand new Massey Ferguson 590 in 1990 and was the first tractor I drove as a kid. Sadly we sold her in 2005 and I wish we hadn't ever sold her.
Lethal vid Phil , love father Phil's knowledge , u , Adrian and Gerry are such great fellas ,hope when all lockdown is over I get see the 3 of use at a show somewhere 👍👍👍
Hi Phil great video I remember a 4wd 12 speed 3 stick box red 2 door cab turbo for sale in Tipperary in 1985 wanted to buy it bad but the boss wasn't having it
I'm running a later 590 4wd with a loader. Multi power has been discontented and the 4wd comes and goes when it pleases. But it still bales hay and runs the log splitter no bother. Great vid Phil your dad is a wealth of knowledge.
Wasn't there a 595 four wheel drive? It might be worth looking at 595 and 590 decals to see if they can be adapted? The 595 had q longer bonnet of course.
They war a good little tractors i had a 2wd one tge only thing.was when she got air locked after running out of diesel it was a cunt to get good tgey war the best of the masseys i think i dont have any Massey now but she was a good one. Love your show keep doing what ye are doing it great
thought all the french 590’s were 2 door maybe it’s the 2wd but i’m nearly certain that’s the difference the english ones only had one door and the french tractors had 2 doors 👍good videos phil
@@anthony342 well now i’m only a fifth your age if even and a buck i worked with told me that once he had a 595 and was a dose for boiling burnt the young bucks hand after he opened it and it overheating
Nice one lads. Ye need to get into the workshop every night for a few hours and start chipping away at these projects. It would make for some interesting viewing. Fair play to Adrian, Gerry and yourself for thinking of others. A problem shared is a problem halved they say, so talking to someone is a great place to start.
I am currently looking for a 75-85hp tractor that is good for row works, fertilizing, and hauling grain. I have IMT 560, but the 3 speed manual is not good for hauling. The IMTa 58hp engine struggles to pull in 3rd gear. Is MF 590 good for hauling 7t grain trailer? Does it also have the long top gears?
very slow but better to keep in a strait line on the road than the 2wd , and yes the turning circle is crap . i miss the one i used to drive ...chap i used to help out still have a 2wd 590 8 speed a 590 2wd multi power turbo , sounds superb , and a 2wd 595 multi power that used to do about 28 mph .
Have to agree with you about the 2wd, my pal had one bought new 565 in 78? and he said you could steer the wheel right round to keep it on the road especially when multipower was used, in the end he fitted it with a steering knob within a week, he said it was a good ploughing tractor, I drove one back in 2006 and I seen what he meant. 😮
Love your videos Phil and love hearing your fathers knowledge , do you and your father not feel that your time would be better spent getting the 6290 that’s in the workshop back to working condition 🤷♂️ just saying 🤣
Ask your dad but a 565 and a 165 wernt the same at all ? Also from 79 till 82 is when I think the 2 door cabs were made with the twin set steps also I think the full red two door cab tractors were finished in France between 81 and 82 had a 2wd 81 565 myself full red and two door cab and I loved it and that’s coming from a Ford man but my god it was the most useless thing iv ever seen in a field
Father Phil is a fountain of knowledge. 👍🏼
Be lovely to see that 590 fully restored to former glory she’s a lovely old girl
These Vintage Thursdays ahve me glued to the screen, great stuff Phil

Father Phil did a great job telling us about that 590 🚜👍
I drove a 590 2wd,4 speed from new in early 1977,it was bought in Malones Garage in Navan. In later years I owned a 575 4wd turbo with a red cab.

Love the 590 fab looking tractor good Videos to watch when in hospital Phil would love see all the old school
I remember having a 590 2wd as his big workhorse tractor made 1000s of silage bales with it, and the second tractor I ever drove
The mount of effort that goes into making these videos is unreal

Massey 1200 were the first Massey 4wd built in uk from 1972, a few years before the 500 series
Good video again Phil & Dad, memories of my Dad had 390 2WD , it cut silage with jf double chop for years up to 2013 with 35x on the buck rake 😎

She had a removable cab?

We have a 575 4 wd made in Coventry
the 590 in this vid had the tell tale cov built rear lights . they are flat , the french ones are not flat
nice to see the mental health campaign at the end
Love the Massey history lesson..I have a question for father Phil where we’re the first 2600’s built was it Coventry or France ?
France.
Was the 1200 Mf not the first 4wd?
great vid phil your da is a fountain of knowledge you very lucky lad learn as much as you can off him pete north wales cadw yn saf

I like a lot of different kinds of tractors... But I think I'm a Massey man at heart 😂
Would I be right in thinking there was a connection with Landini tractors and Massey Ferguson at one point.?
Yes, it's where the early 4wd technology came from.
Yes, Massey Ferguson owned Landini.
We used to have a 590 2wd we sold it for a big deere
first 2 doors had grey cabs
I would have thought the 190 290 390 and 490 would have been before the 590 😂👍
Man that 590 is the same age as me,,,though it has stood the test of time better

Well we may have got a new set of rubber for her and we may be putting the wheels back on soon

The 550 was one of the first factory fitted cab or was it just the 500 series?
500 series.
