    You go to the doctor, he tells you to make better health decisions, but that visit doesn't make you immune to all sickness. You'll still get sick, but you'll know better. Sometimes you'll ignore his warning and sometimes heed it, but you'll become more mature and grow out of the bad habits because "the doc had a point" and "his appointments hurt my wallet".

      @@Bazakilouis @Bazakilouis Baptize? Nonono, born again, yes, but baptize not necessarily. Baptism is a public declaration of your faith, a decision to wear "JESUS" on your shirt, but it's not necessary for salvation.

      @@MallettMotion The only requirement for salvation is to trust that Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose again the third day. It’s the gospel that saves us, not how obedient we are. It’s the power of god unto salvation to everyone that believes it. The gospel is not about what we do. It’s about what Jesus did.
      I know you have good intentions, but based off of what you typed, you’re adding works to the gospel of Grace by making obedience a requirement for salvation. James 2 is not talking about salvation, it’s speaking about justification before men. Remember, James was writing to saved people.
      Romans 11:6 - And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

      Is the Lord's prayer our example for how to pray? If so, and if the believer is incapable of sin, then why would Jesus teach us to ask forgiveness in our regular / daily prayers?

    It was a good conversation and one I think most struggle with. I have always interpreted it simply this way (and can share verses if anyone needed it); If you are saved and then baptized, that whole exchange is putting to death the old self and it’s way and nature. That must be genuinely gone and now replaced with a new self and the spirit guiding and growing it with you day by day. However though the old me is gone, the flesh still is alive and well and is attached to this world and that is where sin comes in and crouches at the door. Our new man now increases in strength day by day putting this flesh into submission under the spirit so I no longer walk in defeat but in victory more and more and not less and less. Lol maybe not simply put to explain but hopefully this is respectfully received

    • @stephenkeen6044
      @stephenkeen6044 5 місяців тому +1

      Not a bad description. Also, the neural pathways in our brain need to be rewired, physically. Old habits replaced. This is a direct link between the "flesh" and the remaining habits and ways of the "old self" ("Do not be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind"). This sometimes takes a lot of "will" and effort to effect, but He provides the means and the power, so we are no longer "slaves", but free.

  • @ObjectiveAssistance8
    @ObjectiveAssistance8 5 місяців тому +3

    Being born again (or born from above) is about a new man being created with the CAPACITY to see God and His truth, repent, and be renewed and conformed into that image (CHRIST) that we're now welcomed in to behold and know. Sanctification is about the continual, daily process of availing ourselves of that capacity. Many times, it is three streps forward two steps back. But, until you are born from above, you lack the falculties to truly know God and submit to Him, so you can't even begin the journey of being conformed into His image in a deliberate and meaningful way.
    In addition, being saved is a "legal" tranasaction of justification-a substitutionary work in which, by grace, on the basis of faith, the penalty for our sins (past, present, future) are re-assigned unto the finished work of Christ on the cross (propitiation). Our faith in that work-and continuing to renew our minds with the implications of it-gives us a power over the flesh we otherwise lack. We're no longer fighting a lost battle, but we're fighting from a place of confidence and victory, knowing that we are accepted in the Beloved (Christ)-which, in turn, if truly believed, causes a longing to love and obey Him in return.

    The point is that we will continue to draw near to Christ and be a follower of him, and the more wet follow him. The more will be like him, and the less well even desire the fleshly temptations, but more desire the ways of our father in heaven. It's a matter of what we choose.

    Crucify my flesh again, form me as you would.
    Manifest that man I am in you who soars above time, bereft of wickedness and sinful desire.
    It's about setting your eyes on the certain goal that you wish to attain. To be Christlike, to be worthy, but to know that you are not. To weep over your wicked heart, repent, and strive on, secure that your salvation is firm and undaunted by the lying sinful self that says, "you'll always be this way." He who parted the sea and multiplied the food 1000 times, who lifted the Son of Man from the grave itself - He is more than able to save you.

    The spirit is eternal and it gets saved. The flesh is mortal and beyond redemption. It's tied to this world and as long as we're tied to it, it will fight against the spirit and sometimes win.
    Fortunately, in salvation there is sanctification and the flesh loses its hold the more we live by the spirit and in fellowship with God. Whichever we feed will be the stronger.

      Yes, it's only part of the full diatribe on the law and faith, you need to continue into 8 to see the full picture. But even believers sometimes "walk in the flesh" instead of "walking in the Spirit", but the Spirit convicts and we repent. We have the ability to be without sin when we walk in the Spirit and remain there. Renewing your mind is a process, as is sanctification. We live in a state of theological tension, of "already, but not yet" applied grace (although please note that I do not mean that grace is applied piecemeal, we have full access to the work of Christ, free access to the full measure of grace by faith) and effects of Christ's work. We learn to live in God through the rest of this life, preparing us for heaven. To the measure we walk in the Spirit, doing good works prepared in advance as members of the body of Christ, we store up treasures in heaven, our reward when we finally stand before Him.

    If Paul says this: Romans 7: 14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold [m]into bondage to sin. 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. 16 But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good. 17 So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
    He also says this:
    Romans 8 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life [a]in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, [b]weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of [c]sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
    9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is [d]alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies [e]through His Spirit who dwells in you.
    12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh- 13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you [f]must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery [g]leading to fear again, but you have received [h]a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
    Think about what Jesus said:
    John 8: 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.
    and also: 31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
    free from what? free from sin.
    36 So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
    Romans 6 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
    Galatians 5: 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
    1 Peter 1: 15 but [p]like the Holy One who called you, [q]be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

    “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
    So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! It's a difficult question to phrase. There are people that may have an addiction to maybe alcohol, sex, or drugs, and can't stop giving in to the sin of those. But there is a difference between someone who is repentant, has a change of heart and WANTS to stop sinning, but the addiction of the flesh keeps them at it, as opposed to a person that believes they are saved but doesn't have a change of heart, and keeps at the sin to enjoy their life thinking they've got a pass to heaven. Yes! You need to fight using Scripture. "It is written!" Like Jesus did. Find one the is as precise to the sin you can find and memorize it. Meditate on it. Come into agreement with God's WORD.... "Can 2 walk together if they be not in agreement?" Pray about it! Sometimes my sins remain because I haven't repented or let go of sin in other areas. I struggled with alcohol, but needed to stand still and let Him fight for me! I kept trying to do it on my own and was extremely upset those around me kept putting me in bad situations. Until I confessed it to people around me, who were part of the problem, did I become stronger. I also removed myself from the toxic environment of drinkers. I will not lie, it took me 10 years of struggling back and forth, and 2 years sober standing and fighting against temptation. Fighting SIN is like fighting the Giants in scripture!

Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.“

    That’s the whole point of being saved. We will always be sinners. But Christ took on every sin we will ever commit. But doesn’t mean we should take advantage of his grace and continue a life of sin. He calls us away from sin because we are now his children and knows the consequences of sin in this life. If you don’t feel the lords conviction when you sin then I would doubt you’re truly saved.

    One thing I wish Dr. Turek mentioned is the difference between mortal sin and venial sin, (mortal sin being a premeditated grave action committed with full knowledge that it is wrong and offends God) and that mortal sin is always a choice (as all sin is), but it's not inevitable. As where venial sin (venial sin being an immoral action that is relatively slight or that is committed without full reflection or consent), practically speaking, is next to unavoidable, and if one were to die in a state of venial sin, it wouldn't separate him/her from God for eternity, but it _would_ incur the cleansing of purgatory to purify and perfect the soul to enter the joy of Heaven: Revelation 21:27 - "Nothing unclean shall enter it (heaven)...." And I'm sure most of us, if not, all of us, will never reach perfection, dying without a "spot or wrinkle or any other blemish" (Ephesians 5:27).

    • @aaehguf

      Purgatory isn't real, it isn't said anywhere in the bible. Also God forgives all kinds of sin, whether we call them mortal, venial, or any other word.(1 John 1:9 KJV). Still though, that doesn't mean we ought to go on living in sin (Romans 6:1 KJV), we ought to be conforming ourselves to be more and more like Jesus every day. Now that we are saved, our bodies are now tabernacles for the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV), we ought to remember that as well.

    • @MallettMotion
      @MallettMotion 5 місяців тому

      @@aaehguf Hi there, actually, based off of the bible, purgatory MUST exist out of necessity. St. John Paul II says, “If purgatory didn’t exist, we’d have to invent it.” Essentially he’s saying, its ludicrous to believe it can’t exist, as the contrary goes so much against what must logical happen if Jesus’ words are true (which they are).
      And that’s right, the word purgatory wasn’t explicitly written in the bible, but that’s because the word wasn’t invented yet. Just like how, when Paul was speaking about “homosexuals”, he actually never used that word, it was inferred into the bible in 1946, because based on the context and interpretation of the initial words he used, he was talking about what we now call “homosexuality.” So just like “purgatory” wasn’t explicitly used, it can be inferred when you look into the meaning of certain passages. The word purgatory is a word to describe what the bible is talking about. Also the word ‘hell’ was never explicitly written in the bible. The words initially used were Sheol and Hades. But that does’t mean hell doesn’t exist. Hell is the word which is used to describe the “lake of fire”, or “eternal fire”, or the place of “weeping and gnashing of teeth”.
      Also, just saying, there have been validated apparitions of Mary and Jesus where they mention purgatory, and the souls that need to be prayed for to shorten their “time” there. And no, this is not Satan or a demon masquerading as a holy figure. And when I say “validated” apparitions, I mean these are investigated cases that delve into the persons motives intentions, and biography to extract anything that may be peculiar, and to verify whether he/she is lying for attention of fame, or trying to mislead. If all of these factors are proven to be unprejudiced, it’s declared a message from heaven. We don’t just take anyone’s word for it. There’s no one better to validate purgatory than Christ Himself, or any other heavenly figure appearing to someone.
      Although I wish I could equip you with the scripture that indicates purgatory, I can’t name it off the top of my head right now, and don’t have the time, so maybe later :)
      Yes, I never said God couldn’t forgive all sin, but there are simply more severe sins that must be treated differently.
      You say you are saved, but you can still sin, meaning, today you could be eligible for heaven, and tomorrow you’re not because you committed a grave sin. No offence, but I recommend not getting too haughty about “being saved”, because that’s only guaranteed when you’re in a state of grace (free from mortal sin). “Being saved” requires a continual effort of staying in accordance with God’s commandments as best as we can, which is pretty hard. If you give up on trying to remove sin from your life, that ain’t lookin’ so good for you in the long run. Same applies to everyone else that does this. Salvation isn’t a mere mental realization or exercise, that’s absurd. It would contradict most of the bible.

      Good luck with that. There isn't one.
      We live in a state of theological tension between the point of coming to faith and eventually standing face to face with Christ. We are justified and so have access to the Father, but we are still not yet glorified. So we experience sanctification, being transformed by the renewing of our minds. The passages that are often used to support the idea of purgatory actually apply to our "already, but not yet" state of tension (between justification applied to us now and our future glorification / perfection), where we learn to live in God, to walk by His Spirit, submitting our lives and thoughts and actions to His rightful authority. When we are resurrected to stand before Him, we will be given glorified imperishable bodies, like that of the risen Christ.
      _"'Being saved' requires a continual effort of staying in accordance with God’s commandments as best as we can, which is pretty hard."_
      It's not just hard, it's impossible. Which is why we need grace, applied by faith. This is explained very thoroughly in Romans. From that point we have obtained salvation, being covered by the blood of Christ (justification). The only way to remain sinless is to continually walk in the Spirit.

      Being made in the "image of God" does not mean we look like Him physically. It means He made us with characteristics that reflect His own. Free will, rationality, creativity, capacity for selfless love, etc. Each of us with a particular blend of characteristics we're designed to display. So we "look like Him" in other ways than physical. We can learn more of God's character from every person we encounter, if we're able to see them perfectly. We ourselves are not gods, but we exhibit a "reflection of Divinity" if you will. His signature is on us and is recognisable.

    The Word does also guide us or lays out the ways to the road of minimizing sin in our lives. If you don't play with dirt, you won't get dirty (associations etc). We are in a world full of sin, hanging out with sin may entice one to sin. I realised very early in my rebirth, that the human body, just like a toddler, can throw tantrums at you! Key is to show who is parent and who is the child, based on the keys given in the Word until the tantrum child is minimized. Maturity (which is a process) in the new birth eases tantrums because as you mature spiritually, the flesh is minimized in its tantrums, though still existing. It led me to see how a non believer can believe in the concept of "coexistence"(NB: in God's eyes you are one in Christ!) because it's like a "2 in 1" existance, with opposite desires and goals, but the one of choice (to self), in any given moment will have dominion! We fight the "flesh" and its wants, whilst uplifting the spirit with whom we have a greater helper, bringing us to alignment with the will of God! Malalignment happens!
    Thank God for Jesus❤.
