- Saw a number of people talking about this song, so I decided to upload it. "Only A Dream Away" was the 4th charted single from Mason Dixon's "Only A Dream Away" album. It reached #47 on the Billboard Country chart in 1985 (Texas 5558). This album was still sealed, so this song was the first to have a needle run through it! :-)
WOW. I remember hearing this song and slow dancing at the Round Up in 85 just after I moved to Dallas. I had the album, but somewhere along the way it disappeared. Mason Dixon, Steve Wariner, Alabama, Restless Heart, early Reba.......such great days!
My family saw Mason Dixon quite often in Houston and became friends with them. They were fantastic! We still see Frank Gilligan play acoustic shows here. So talented!
These guys were flat out awesome. I will never understand how some bands succeed and others don't.
Brings back some good memories. I played it when i worked as a late night radio Dj in the Texarkana market.
I saw this band playing in Plano Texas 1986 at an outdoor festival. Bob wooduff park. I was 15 yrs at that I carried my guitar with me everywhere .After the band was finished I got to meet all the members of the band. Rick Henderson autographed my guitar and showed me a few riffs to practice. So to here of his passing. He will always be missed but never forgotten. It's really sad this bad didn't get to stay for years.
Beautiful slow country song when i hear it always turns me back and the memories come back to my mind again definetely had to be a huge success in irs time
Had the pleasure of knowing these guys and calling them friends when I worked at KYKX in Longview, Texas. They performed at our annual "Big Bass Classic", fished in the tournament, and were regulars at the station. Whomever posted this, thank you for some great memories. And RIP to the members who are no longer with us.
Used to see em all over Longview /Tyler area.
God given talet.
Yeah,.. will be 65 years of age in October of 2014,... wrote a lot more than this,...but always wondered what life was really all about,... Think I know now,... but it is still on hold before I can release that knowledge,... until then we are all stuck with fears of the future,... regrets of the past,... but they are all prewritten long before we ever existed,... and will be with that Great Mind long after we are gone,... I hope I can see that brighter future, justifying the past, materialized on the ground before my time comes to depart,... but if not,...we are all eternal,... even as He is,.. so nothing is lost,... even as a dream,... close your eyes,... let the feelings resurface,... yes it is all only a dream away,... later my friends,... Paul Melvin Detmer,... here in good ole NC state,.... love to all,... nite,... on May 2, 2014
Remember playing this along with I Never Had A Chance With You..They made some really good records..

Wow...just ran across this song. Love listening to them. Thanks for posting. I saw them in concert in Amarillo back in the 80's. Bought this same on cassette at the concert. I think I wore it out over the years. I wish I had the guitar chords to this song , trying to learn how to play a little, maybe...lol. Worth a shot anyway. Awesome band! Brings back some great memories.

The lead singer has a beautiful voice and he should have had a very successful career in music. Mason Dixon went on to record briefly for Capitol in the late 80s.
AWESOME, Finally, Thank you KSMusicgeeks
Remember when I was younger going to a concert of theirs and people thinking I was the drummer. We did look a lot alike
