  • In League of Legends, it’s not uncommon to hear from a teammate that they want your team to lose.
It’s a very specific kind of toxicity that’s existed in the game for years but one which the community is getting increasingly sick of.
So why do League players exhibit this toxic self sabotage? And is there something deeper going on? We spoke to an expert to find out more...

Doesn't matter if they're doing bad you dont get to be abusive to people. Treating every instance like a non-linear puzzle for you to work out what the optimal play is even if it’s impossible to win. The difference is the severity of the issue. In Val or cs people don’t inherently have an advantage against you consistently because a rifle and shields + full util is all they can get. So the fight is still winnable. However, 6 item team vs your 2 or 3 items in league isn’t playable even if you are better. This is proven by pro players still loosing some games in low elo.

There's only one way to fix/solve the multiplayer gaming toxicity:
Which is to design a both roster balance and intuitive gameplay where it's more of like "team with one or more highskilled/passionate teammates enable to carry them to victory" instead of "team will be instantly lost by at least one bad teammate" (which most mobas specially League of Legends is designed for this latter part)

I've had a different experience with this. Instead of "team bad so I'll lose" it was "team mate hyper toxic, so I'll lose".
Basically our game was going relatively well, everyone on our team was doing well, but our mid decided to be extremely toxic to the enemy team by taunting, gloating they were carrying (which was debateable as me and my adc were doing pretty well and busted their team many times), and just ignoring objectives in favor of getting kills, in a ranked match mind you. I did ask the enemy team if they could report our mid for this behavior since even I was not enjoying it at all. So what happened?
Suddenly our jungler just kinda began to not show up and I was so caught up on trying to keep everything rolling I didn't notice they were at our base just walking back and forth between fountain and the turrets.
Soon the enemy was catching up, but our mid was still talking shit, and we began losing objectives, towers, everything was crumbling and I asked what the hell our jungler was doing. Their response? "Mid is being toxic so I'm not gonna play because they don't deserve to win". Just like that. We were in a 4v5 situation now, and to avoid an AFK penalty that's what our jungler did, running back and forth doing nothing. Our mid KEPT going, kept flaming the enemy, the whole thing really. It even came to the point my adc was gonna do the same fucking thing, which made me just BEG them to not do it, I had to, figuratively, get on my hands and knees to beg them to not do this.
My adc said "alright I'll do it for you" and went in, we won a teamfight barely and closed the game.
I asked the enemy to report both our mid and jungler for the attitude and I chastised the living shit out of our jungler for it.
Guys, if you do not want a toxic prick to play, if you want to punish them, just fucking report them at the end of the game. Don't do this kind of thing of "I'm losing so they don't win", it makes you so much worse than the toxic prick you want to punish.

Every guide out there will tell you how to wave manage. It will tell you basic macro concepts. It will try to help you itemize better, and give you frameworks for viewing different matchups. One of THE most important things you need to understand to climb in this game is that a significant portion of the player base does this (behavior described in video). That means, navigating the fragile egos of your team mates IS part of your win condition, every... single... game. Don't type, ever. Turn chat off so they don't tilt you. Be mindful that the WAY in which you ping can also set them off. You can try to be positive to reenforce their good behavior if something good happens like, you take a good trade and you thumbs up the ADC or, you thumbs up your jungler if they gank and get sums etc. Lastly, you can do everything right and someone can still sabotage. No sense in being upset about it, you're almost never going to win when this happens so it's better go into damage control mode. Go limit test, try a new item, make risky plays to try andflip the game on its head, coin flip baron etc.. Try and have fun and or learn a couple new things because, people like this will also usually never surrender to hold everyone hostage. Don't carry baggage into the next game, if you're still tilted about someone like this don't queue up, or run an ARAM or something. I had a 75 percent winrate in diamond last season and honestly, I'm bad. Just a fundamentals type player that understands the human ego.

I was 100% one of those people in dota 2 like 5-6 years ago, it really is the mindset that these fucking idiots keep ruining MY game and MY mmr and MY experience. I had to just completely stop playing ranked in dota for many years. My mmr is in the toilet now, but I am FAR better at letting the games and bad teammates go and move on.

it's sadly very true. it's in all games too. This is why companies keep ramping up SBMM. They get matched with people who are clearly better and they just quit and give up instead of continuing. They cater to these people via SBMM and most of them don't even understand it.

I've had plenty of games as a 20+ kills assassin where I picked off carries all the time but my team got dismantled 2v4 by all but fed enemies, ignored the concept of objectives and couldn't win a fight if their life depended on it. Now either they change how lp are rewarded and make it so if you win but perform horribly you do not gain shit or this won't change ever.

This is one of the reasons I stopped playing jungle. I would be hard carrying my bot and top lanes and no matter how much advantage I gave them, they would just do stupid shit. They wouldn’t Ward, they wouldn’t come help with objectives, they would solo dive a full team, top lane would tp into mid, 30 seconds before drag spawns, and try to fight the midlander who’s up two levels on them. It’s so frustrating to be constantly fighting against not just the enemies, but the consequences of your stupid teammates. things got a bit better when I stopped playing jungle but the same problem persists where no matter what role you play, or how well you play it, it all doesn’t matter if your teammates don’t care.

People complaining that Riot went too far with actually fining people for “toxic behaviour” seem to forget about the games they play, and publicly complain about the mentality it bred. I don’t like it either but i don’t know how Riot can actually do anything about unsportsmanlike conduct outside of the pro scene without said players’ trying to turn it around and using whatever “punishment method” is given on innocent players in return

The reason comebacks dont happen that often is cause too many people are giving up in the first 10min of the game. Valorant had this problem too where a team would go 0 - 4 and some people would just throw up the FF and say the games over. Peoples mentality for being able to handle short term losing is insanely low they assume if they aren't winning hard enough then the games a loss instead of trying to fight for a comeback.

  • @just_because338
    @just_because338 Місяць тому

The fact that the possibility of comebacks somehow affects toxicity is the most delusional nonsense that can be. The players have only gotten more toxic since the durability patch. The only reason for toxicity is that people enter the game in advance with the desire to blow off steam and vent their negative emotions on others and Riot Games does nothing to stop it.😉

I'm the type to always vote "No" on a surrender vote unless the enemy team is guaranteed to destroy my nexus. One or two enemy misplays in the late game can be all it takes to make a comeback and surrendering never allows for that opportunity.
