- Whaz UP my dear boys & girls it's your PRB12 here and WELCOME to The NEW ERA of Pokemon! for teh first time ever we will enter a new pokemon generation without Ash....and as scary as that still is.....we luckily have new girl Liko with us and needless to say: she might be different from Ash, but with these two episodes I can say....she is AWESOME! 8D

Sorry for the late review, but I had to work all day on both Friday and Saturday. that's why I spent the WHOLE SUNDAY just doing nothing but working on this video... xD (I think gthe length is kinda telling ...)

Liko is awesome? ARE YOU FUCKING HIGH?!? Liko is fucking godawful because she's horrible in both design and development and while Roy is also horrible as shit. Fuck Liko and Roy, we need Ash and Pikachu back. Heck, we need Team Rocket back as well.
So, in terms of relating to the audience, Ash was a character that related a lot to the extroverts of the world. Liko is the type that relates more to the introverts of the world. I love that. And, luckily enough, our other new main character, Roy, seems much more extroverted in mannerisms, so we will still have some of that too.
I'm an introvert, so it resonates.
I'm a ambivert but I'm probably gonna love Roy more
As I predicted, for a new series, they HAVE to start out with a bang, no matter the audience

@@topazblaze175 Not really. Ash is legendary due to product of time and nostalgia, but if you were to compare OG Ash and HZ Riko you can immediately see how much more thought is put into Riko's characterization.
It blew me away with how good it was. Liko is cute and relatable. She is a part of the popular trope of having the MC be shy and introverted character similar to Bocchi for example. Not that it's a bad thing
I love how you compare Liko to Bocchi! 😂 Now I can't stop imagining Liko with a mango Karton Box on top of her head...
@PokemonRangerBoy12 Liko isn't quite as socially anxious and awkward as Bocchi but I have to think the anime team took some inspiration from the success that Anime had in regards to Likos character
It cracks me up that Liko finally comes out of her shell and has Sprigatito use Leafage... DIRECTLY AT AMETHIO! There is not even a semblance of aiming at Ceruledge! In fact, they specifically show Ceruledge jumping in the way to block it from HITTING ITS TRAINER IN THE FACE, in the sky, during a severe thunderstorm! Apparently, Liko's shell represses her murderous instincts. I love it.
The quality of that airship wing turning into a battlefield was awesome. The animation looked like a Pokemon movie
They really went all out in making sure that Liko is a worthy character that can be considered someone worthy to replace Ash. I think Ash would be proud to have such a successor.
I don't think Liko literally broke the fourth wall when she said that. I think it was meant more metaphorically as she loves to write in her diary. It was a figure of speech meaning that she is central to some important cause.
Tbh that was also my first thought when I watched the ep... But then I thought how funny it would be if she would actually be a 4th wall breaking character and I just added that into my review out of amusement 😂

Ash will be missed, but Liko has already showed me that the anime doesn't need to rely on him. She's a pretty great character.

To your point of her being so different from Ash, I think they’ll have Roy balance out her character. He seems like he’s going to be the more outgoing adventurous one and Liko may be able to learn from that, while Roy can learn from her when it’s time to take a step back and observe and analyze a situation. Just a thought.

Point to make, Riko didn't CHOOSE her starter, the school holded several interviews via online with teachers and the starters, and choose one wich adapted to the personality of each student.
To the happy-go-lucky Ann it was Oshawott, for the hesitant Riko the equaly hesitant Sprigatito.

I really enjoyed it! Liko seems really perceptive (like taking notes on her partner's behavior and realizing Amethio is suspicious--it's really refreshing compared to how often Ash would fall for a disguised TR's bull), and her social awkwardness is pretty relatable. Friede is really cool and I love having an adult be on the main cast! It feels like they're reaching out to their older audience. The Explorers are also pretty competent and I'm interested in learning their motives. It's interesting that Amethio leads the group considering he seems to be a teenager, while Zir and Conia are adults.
The more serious tone it has reminds me a lot of DP and XY, something that can appeal to us older fans more than SM and Journeys did.
Liko's my favorite Horizons Character. I can relate to her personality & I like the effort she's put into protecting and training Sprigatito. Looking forward to seeing her save it next episode.
Pokémon anime company. Please please continue with this amazing story at the same standard. I absolutely loved this special, and it was such a breath of fresh air. The characters are so well written, designed and I want to meet them irl. The music is top notch and often the silent moments in the episodes are just as powerful! This, in my opinion is the best episode we've possibly ever had. Also, I completely agree, that the mechanic does be givin' off waifu vibes, which I am not sure about in the Pokémon anime. This series might be the one to pull back the fans journeys and sun and moon lost.
For me liko should be her own character instead of trying to be like ash. Let's be honest there are more of teen and adult fans watching pokemon instead of kids(at least outside of japan). And those kind of fans actually prefers introvert type protagonist in other anime's like hachiman, oreki, ayanokoji etc etc.
Captain pikachu moveset is kinda strange but it also sees how it compliments together. Thunder Punch, Volt Tackle and Double team. It looks like it's built for close range brawling
And honestly now I'm really curious what his 4th move will be

These first 2 episodes were really solid. I'm already quite fond of Liko and I'm definitely excited to keep watching! Simple story but engaging enough, and quite nice and smooth animation, with decent storyboarding. So far so good, Horizons!

I’m loving this series so far! I love how it feels like an entirely different experience. Plus it looks like they will be traveling the world on a airship!
I love the air ship concept, because it basically fixes a major problem that both sm and Jn had: that the Mc always had a main location (aka school /Sakuragi institution) where they stayed for the most parts which lead to the traveling aspect of the anime being somewhat limited, because a lot of events always to in said main location
The airship concept is growing on me. However I'm worried that since we're traveling in an airship Around the World, it might be like Journeys where we won't get much focus on Paldea
@@MarcusMapua No worries about that Liko is from Paldea , all her family is from Paldea , and her pendant is from Paldea. Pretty optimist that we will see plenty of Paldea in Horizons . Horizons is divided in parts , first part is " Liko and Roy set off" i wonder if each part will have a different location
@@symphonixblades I was not aware it's in parts (in which I'm assuming they're parts for arcs); that's new. Here's hoping this new direction for the plot works well
@@MarcusMapua its kinda like anime arcs i guess , seems like having Dai Sato ( Cowboy Bebop , Samurai Champloo , Eureka Seven , Wolfs Rain) as scripts overseer might pay off since this anime seems to have a structure , lore and story which was missing from the main anime for a long time
I’m loving the new series so far. Im already obsessed with Liko. I can totally relate to her. Just like her, I’m interverted and have a hard time making friends. I love her relationship with Sprigatito. I miss Ash but Liko and this series is a breath of freash air. I can’t wait to official meet the group and I can’t wait to finally meet Roy.
Also this series reminds af a Studio Ghibli film called Castle in the Sky. It too was about a female protagonist with mysterious necklace that is being chase by bad guys that want to use her and her necklace for evil means.
Your "negatives" on Liko is moot tbh. Because everyone has been comparing to Ash, when she's her own person. She isn't like Ash, nor should she be. Roy seems to be the Ash type from what they've shown, however, even he is different and his own person. Which is a breath of fresh air tbh.
Can't wait for their story to unfold. This is what older fans have been wanting since the B&W anime specials that promoted the games.
The battles in the first two episodes were a chef's kiss.
As someone who is shy, antisocial, and nervous about a lot, I relate to Liko more than Ash. Also I hope Anne is a recurring character because she's great
For me, these first two episodes definitely deserve a 10/10 each. Episode 1 already made me love Liko's character along with her relationship with Sprigatito while Episode 2 really got me interested in both the Rising Volt Tacklers and the Explorers. Overall, these two episodes were a great start to this new series.

Been a while since I've said this but _I've got a LOT OF SHIT TO SAY_ (bullet points for each of navigating) so yeah... here we go:
▫️Even when I watched these two episodes RAW, I was still invested in what was happening (that usually isn't the case) and I was too excited to care about the lack of subs at the time.
▫️Liko is already looking to be one of my favorite Pokemon characters. I actually appreciate the fact that a lot of her dialogue are internal because that really emphasizes the fact that she is very much uhm... introverted.
▫️Liko is very smart and observing, drawing and taking notes of what's going on, being immediately suspicious of Amethio when he asked about the special pendant, and even applying a bit of her knowledge when she was taking on Zir's Rhydon to try and escape.
▫️I didn't expect to see all of the other Rising Volt Tacklers to also show up. Guess that makes sense because they were looking for Liko. I love how Murdock nervously walked away quickly so he wouldn't look suspicious. (I mean, if you think about it, this scenario sounds creepy out of context.)
▫️I dunno how often we'll see Anne but I like her already. XD
▫️Nidothing's goofy animations in the costume cracked me up. Like LOLWUT. And I guess they are our "tutorial" of the Pokemon world (makes sense), going over stuff like type matchups and what the goal of many trainers are (becoming Champion)
▫️Amethio and his associates/friends (?) Zir & Conia were NOT playing around in these two episodes. Certainly different from our trio of Team Rocket so far. Amethio also didn't quit when Frede escaped with Liko unlike other bad guys probably would have. Even having him, Zir, and Conia, following the Rising Volt Tacklers into the thunderstorm?! Sheesh. Persistent!
▫️Baby Terapagos?! Wasn't expecting THAT of all things. Whatever that actually is, has definitely got many eyes watching this series now to find out more about it.
▫️Even though it was short, it was nice to see each member of the Rising Volt Tacklers introduced on the airship and what they do. Also LONG, BACK OFF! -Orla is mine- :]
▫️A strength and weakness of Liko was on full display in episode 2. She was willing to give herself up so the fighting wouldn't harm anyone or anything else, and she even blames herself. But Sprigatito just went "NO. We ain't about that. We gotta fight!"
▫️Speaking of fight, both battles with Friede and Amethio were pretty solid! You are certainly right about why these battles are working better than most of Journey's battles even if the animation style is mostly the same. (Episode 3, they're gonna battle AGAIN. lol.)
▫️Liko on the inside being a polar opposite of Serena on the inside is pretty funny. Love that comparison. XD
▫️TWO CRAZY CLIFFHANGERS back to back. Holy crap. We're really going into episode 3 with Liko not having Sprigatito. Damn. She REALLY isn't having a great time. Getting hunted for her pendant, being carried off by Friede, a complete stranger to her, and even not being confident enough to talk with others about similar interests. Now she has to deal with not having her partner Pokemon until she can get him/her back.
▫️Lol, whose Quaxly is that on the ship? Nidothing's? XD. Fuecoco doing his best to help Orla and Charizard. So cute. 🐊 🔥
Overall, I am ON board with this new beginning. I almost have this feeling that if they kept Ash, this particular story setup wouldn't have worked all that well. But ya know... it is what it is.

My god so many bullet points... xD let me try my best to answer as many as I possibly can.
I know this might sound weird, but I wasn't actually THAT excited. I was rather on the fence when it came to Horizons. But that was BEFORE I watched the episode. If I would have watched it raw like you then I probably would have been as excited as you were!
I think her being kinda introvert combined with her inner monologue really makes her stand out as an MC compared to ash since ash isn't really a guy who spents a lot of time talking to his inner self.
I also love her smart side which like I said in the video, reminds me a bit of Goh and is something I liked about him. But for some reason her being displayed as *smart* feels more natural compared to goh...i honestly don't know why
I didn't expect that either and especially Murdock cracked me up since he was so awkward walking through the school like he was scared of doing something illegal haha
I honestly didn't really mention the *Nidothing*, because I have a bad feeling that it could be Iono (aka one of the Paldea gym leaders) who loves livestreaming. Don't get me wrong :I like Iono, but she's also a bit cringe xD
You often forget how an actual villain in pokemon feels like especially after spending so many years with Team Rocket. So I really like their approach of *action before dialogue* while actually looking serious and professional while doing it. (still love Team Rocket, even though Jn really soured them for me personally)
I'm also very curious about this whole Terapagos connection. Hopefully it's something with an actual story and not just a blatant advert like palkia and dialga were during JN
I already LOVE the rising volt tacklers! (minus their really uncool handshake) and I guess you have to battle me in a pokemon Battle to get me away from Orla! 8D
I really loved that character trait, but I gotta admit : the conclusion felt a bit rushed at the end. So I really hope that this just the beginning ^^
I couldn't agree more I loved the battles and just the overall execution especially during the Pikachu battle was just superb!
Hopefully we get more of this in the future especially in terms of new concepts and execution.

Yeah I also can't wait for more and I think the whole plot and setting especially works BECAUSE of liko and her unique personality. If ash was there it definitely would be different and I would even argue that it wouldn't be as exciting as with Liko ^^

I've heard the theories about Nidothing being Iono and I gotta say... the character definitely has the energy to match. XD I guess anything's possible.
Yeah, it's crazy because at most in Journeys, it was either Matori Matrix (kinda?) or AU Team Rocket. Sadly, both were isolated circumstances and both mini-arcs just went by so quickly and never touched on again. We need more "Hunter J's" and less... Journeys Team Rocket. XD (And do I even count Chairman Rose in this situation?)
I think because a big part of Horizon's story IS the pendant and its secrets, it's probably gonna get more proper time attached to it unlike in Journeys where that wasn't always the focus.

I'm just sad that people are not gonna really give this series a chance because Ash isn't there anymore. So many people want him to show up right now but that would ruin the whole point of this story at the moment.
This new anime is such a breath of fresh air with so much good surrounding it! My friends are even getting back into the pokemon anime because these first two episodes showed so much promise and were so good!(and they also won't shut up about how much better Horizons looks compared to what I've shown them of Journeys and Sun and Moon, but another positive for Horizons I guess)

I love how you instantly highlighted Liko's voice. I don't know if you're familiar with the Macross series but the same VA is voicing one of the main characters and since I watched delta (the specific part of Macross in which Liko's VA appeared) I was really hoping she would get more VA jobs. Imo one of the most underrated VAs out there! I was waiting for YEARS to hear that voice again! Kinda hyped for the show ngl :)
Yeah Suzuki minori is really talented! I loved her as Ena from project Sekai
Sure, Ash will be missed. But honestly? Liko is already one of my favorite characters, and it's only been TWO episodes! We'll be fine without him. Also, I'm more invested in the story, which hadn't really happened since the XY(&Z) days.
sun and moon was interesting story wise outside of xyz series.
Can we talk about Amethio's Pokemon Choices? My man can cut himself with that edgy and i am all here for it, I LOVE both Ceruledge and Corviknight, we know Ceruledge will get plenty of time to shiny but i hope the same to Corviknight and that he isn't just the "Flying Pokemon"

The handshake made me think of Peter and Ned's handshake in the MCU but will less moves and personality.
That aside, I was amazed with how they started this series. I hope they keep it up!
This series so far sounds extremely good and I'm very excited for the next episode to come also can't wait to see more than you Pikachu maybe he might get the old movies back all keep the new ones who knows 10/10

To be honest, so far I love this new series, characters, story, the mystery, animation, how it looks, music. This has made me really excited. I’d give the fort two episodes 9 or 10 out of 10. I was already happy to see Sprigattio was gonna be the main characters main Pokemon as it’s my favourite starter from gen 9, but watching the episode I like him/her even more. The fact the jewel Liko has is connected to the upcoming dlc for scarlet and violet is interesting, probably will be more connected to SV and it’s dlc’s. Loved the battles, the pacing and strategy’s used were really goo and engaging. Love Liko and the characters on the ship, and the Pokemon they have up there make sense. The new baddies are cool and I like there Pokemon. Just overall, lots of fun and hype. Definitely a good start, just hope it continues and gets better and we find out more of what’s happening. Pokemon horizons, love that name. 💫

The only issue I have with the series so far is that the school isn't set in Paldea and that Friede doesn't have an Armarouge. We could've had a sick Armarouge/Ceruledge rivalry. I heard that the XY action director is bad on crew, which could explain the great battle choreography
Also really like that Friede's Pikachu has a very different battle style from Ash's Pikachu
I'm pretty sure the first episode spans a few months. Liko observing Sprigatitio, training with it, etc. should've taken a while

I could never really relate to Ash as much as I liked him. I grew up very introverted so I'm sure LOTS will relate to her and the boy main character or even Anne kids can relate as that awesome friend with lively energy.
Omg, Liko is me. I'm also bad with human interaction, which causes me to just let go of the idea of talking to them since I have no idea how to start up the conversation especially since we're total strangers. Hearing this info about her, makes me excited to watch this even more since I can relate to her way better than the always energetic and etroverted Ash. This is a nice and welcome change
I think this will be a very good pokemon anime series.
Btw I think all of Serena's references could be because the xy series both the game and the anime celebrate 10 years or are just similar (this is just a personal theory).
Riko can be a character that many people will like as much as I do.

Covid is to blame for many of the problems of Journeys. Hopefully nothing similar happens and therefore give this series breathing room

The series needed a change at some point. And already I’m really liking Liko. She definitely seems smarter than Ash at this point and I like the idea of her traveling the world with the weird sky pirate group.
I don't think relatability is going to be an issue. This anime looks way more focused on pre-teens than on children. The story doesn't look like it will be a formula like the Ash seasons were (New Region, Do the Gym Challenge, Fight in the League, Fight Evil Threat, Goodbye). It looks like this series is more focused on a more overarching story with more focus on character growth. For these kinds of stories a more reclusive character is better, as they naturally come with a lot of insecurities that lead to them getting out of their comfort zone in order to explore the world and grow as people. Plus, not every kid is extroverted, vocal and fun-loving like Ash is.
One thing i expect from this series is that they are showing paldea, more often and not making the mistake like journeys being whole time at vermillion city. Journeys had just handful episodes of galar.
I was sad to know ash wouldn't return but with liko taking his place there's nothing to worry about (I hope)

What's the best thing about the first two episodes of Pokemon Horizons and what's the rest of this show going to be like?
I would say personally to me the best of these episodes was how good and well animated the fights were felt like XY fighting scenes but with more recent animation, also how there was actually a linear story that seems to be continuing for the next episodes so far, this anime is even structured being the first part "Liko and Roy set off" meaning they have actual story and lore prepared, also liked how Liko was relatable to introverts and how the characters and Pokemon personality developed
yes liko is a introvert i checked, i hate how much i of myself i see in her, ONE MORE THING CAP IS A G that lightning rod boosted volt tackle will go down in history as one of the best prep time moves ive seen in a long time it reminded me of sasuke setting up storm clouds for kirin.

Omgoodness. This is as good if not better than XY and XYZ. And that says something for me. The animation in the fights is insane. I'm so glad they left the SM and Journeys animation. When this hits the USA I'm watching it.
I thought this series came out in April 14 and there’s a 2nd episode already? I didn’t even know till I clicked on here. Thought I was trippin. Anyways, even tho ppl liked Ash bc of his expressions towards Pokémon and his adventures, I think Liko definitely does relate to the audience but personality-wise, she overthinks a lot and is hesitant as an introvert which ik ppl can relate. And it’s so strange seeing an airship in Pokémon. Was her starter chosen based on her personality or was it randomized? And I wonder how Roy’s introduction will happen, he’ll definitely balance with Liko
The starter was chosen based on her personality. The academy professors talked with her and chose the pokemon that would better fit her personality. Which is why Anne have Oshawot cuz those 2 are really similar personality wise as well

I just loved it! I was actually tired of Ash - he's grown to have an heck of an army of Pokémon and a hefty load of stories on his back. The anime was always referring to the things on the past (25 years of continuous journeys, mind you), so much so you could hardly say it was for kids. It became more of a legacy thing for grown-up fans. And so boyish in every sense... Liko came in to give it an important fresh renewal that was so needed. There's so much that I criticize in Journeys, so, good riddance in a few ways (sorry fans!).
Ash was becoming unsustainable. Too much legacy for a 10 year young adventurer.
for some reason, I feel like Pokemon is back with this series. I haven't had that feeling since Kalos. I don't know what it is but since Kalos ended I never really enjoyed the anime. But with Liko maybe child me is back for another round
The reason Anne is going back home and Liko isn't is probably not because of a long holiday, just a weekend, since Anne's home is in Kanto (same as school) and presumably it'd take Liko much longer to return to Paldea for the weekend.

Don't have anything to watch this show on but my phone so I'm going to just watch reviews on UA-cam but onto more important things this ep reminds me of the first and second episode of xy and I'm intrigued, however I want pokemon scarlet and violet to do something sun and moon and journeys could not do for me and the franchise I want riko to surpass serena in terms of grounded and realistic development and I want this new series to surpass xy the benchmark I don't want this show on par I'm rooting for it to surpass the that overwhelming wall to succeed in the long run
Ngl, this one's hard for me judge right now. It feels like there's simultaneously plenty going on, yet not enough to properly make me know how to feel about it. I'll still have some hope for it, but considering Journeys started failing after it's beginning, I have to remain a little bit skeptical.

Liko is a great 👍 main character she’s her person and her character is different than Ash she’s more shy and reserved and ready to learn every step of the way but can also be head strong and brave like Ash as well a good balance I’m glad they didn’t make her a female version of Ash she’s her own person but has a bit of his reckless nature and brave personality Cool 😘
I liked it a lot. Also appreciate that they're using an art style similar to that of the games themselves and making it look and feel like I'm watching Pokémon. Not the shit, ugly art style they've used since Sun/Moon that made the show like a cheap Yokai Watch knockoff. Plus, the overexaggerated reactions that spawned from that type of art style just didn't look right in Pokémon
I had my doubts about Captain Pikachu, but no no. He's very very cool and is clearly different from Ash's Pikachu.
To be completely honest I'm more exited about Friede & Charizard & The Baddas Ship/Plane with Captain Pika & The Crew than Liko.
What's exactly the plot of the Scarlet and Violet anime involving Liko and Roy? What is their goal and are they going to catch some powerful Pokémon?
Well for Liko it has to do with her pendant and the Legendary Pokémon inside it. As for Roy we know from the trailer he has some sort of weird pokeball and want to meet some legends. So he's either talking about Legendary Pokémon or the Titans Pokémon from the Path of Legends

I don’t think Liko being such a contrast to Ash will be a problem w the audience. As connected with them thru his outgoing personality and adventuring spirit, but I also think Liko can connect w the audience, she’s a little more grounded and ppl can connect w her thru relatability and experience of not being able to express themselves and what ever themes show up later on

Like if they let her can use this on command later on, this will be a pretty bad sign for her character, as that plus the pendant, she may slowly become a Mary Sue.
