The one I raised many years ago was a sweet and gentle animal. One thing I can say for them is that they're pretty undemanding as far as wildlife goes.Honestly, if they were available as a common pet, they'd be popular. They're not the most interesting pet, but still are cuddly and quiet, and are clean as well.
I had a pet possum too, years ago that I raised from a baby. His name was Oppenheimer. He was one of the best pets ever. This brought a tear to my eye because it reminded me of Oppie so much. Thanks again for sharing this.
So gentle. Love watching these God's creatures. Have learned after all these years just how much so. Enjoy watching our new possum fur babys mingle with our fur baby cats. Luv um all
i see possums hit on the side of the road and i always look to see if there are babies, i cant help but worry about them! I am so happy to see people taking care of them..
I know this is old, but it brought a huge smile to my face. I wish everyone could be as compassionate towards wildlife- opossums in particular, since most people call them "vermin" and shoot at them :( How could anyone hurt such an adorable and clearly harmless creature? Your montage is very touching. :)
wow...one year ago I wrote this comment and now I have my own opossum! Someone found her on the road, no mama to be found and missing an eye. I already love her and hope she grows up to be big and strong like Crash. ^_^
I'm so jealous of you Bethany! I want one so terribly but it's not as if you can just walk into a pet store or shelter and adopt one... It's legal here, and I'd do anything to have one!
My boyfriend and I have two rescues that we've had for about 6 months now. It will absolutely break our hearts when they pass over the Rainbow Bridge...Love them more than I thought possible!!!
How sweet! A real man who is kind to little animals instead of hurting them. I love to see videos like this; there are so many mean people out there. Thank you!
I have opossum where i live, i have grown very fond n protective of them! I began feeding them n providing shelter for them about 15 years ago...they are very misunderstood n so beneficial to our yards...i have about 5 right now that come eat on my porch..each time one has babies, she brings them to the porch...now our family has grown, the skunks n raccoons have joined the clan...not one issue in 15 years...i live my critters...Crash is gorgeous n thank you for giving her the best life...the name is also cute, i had a cat once that i called crash...he passed awhile ago...God bless❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤🦡❤
One of these popped out at me about a month ago from behind a tree when I was walking back from work. I probably scared it because it had its mouth open, looking like it wanted to bite my face. I just looked at it, and crossed the street, and the thing followed me all the way to the apartment parking lot lol. I'd occasinally stop and turn around and it would stop and just kind of look up at me, basically keeping the same distance. It was kind of cute :D
They really are the sweetest little things. She's never even tried to bite and it seems all she wants to do is snuggle :) And I have very much enjoyed having her in my life and raising her. It's been a wonderful experience.
Possums are great animals and kudos to you for raising awareness about these wonderful, and very misunderstood animals. Our only north american marsupials plays a critical role in our environment. Many people think they are ugly and scary when in actuality they are more afraid of us, hence the scary teeth (leave me alone) and playing dead.
What a wonderful video, thanks for sharing that. Not many people like 'possums, but it is nice to find the few others that do. Kudos to you for rescuing and nurturing that animal.
Very sweet little creature ! Pretty sure we have one in our yard. Got a quick look as he scurried from a garbage bag last week.. The apple I put out for him every evening is gone by morning !
My opossum uses a cat box and has always used 1 spot so I put pee pads or cat box, she uses it better then any cat I've had...Lucy is a free range opossum sleeps in our bed like a cat
+jessica wolf I found another opossum a month ago that was tiny, just getting color still no hair, I was lucky and she would drink from an eye dropper, then got her eating "peters mix/formula" which is a mix of 1 part cat food, 1 part vegetables and 1/4 part plain yogurt put together in a mash, gives them what they need but 20% fruit helps with the other vitamins needed, so she growing quick, named her Ethel since the other opossum was Lucy lol
I have a possum in my basement I don't know how old it is but I would love to make it my pet I've been giving it fresh water and food and it eats but I'm afraid of it how would I go about catching it should I put a litter box down there because it's starting to stink it's really cute and not really afraid of me but doesn't come out alot but I know it's down there what can I do to get it to come out and feel safe with me?
+April Martin first is a opossum that lives on it's own and big enough to take care it's self would prefer to remain on it's own, it's better for your little environment, takes care of lots of pest and inspect problems, if the opossum has a way in and out of your basement is about the one thing I'd worry about, but they do like clean water little cat food kibble and a safe warm place to sleep after wondering around their route, a plastic crate up off the floor a few inches covered inside with t-shirt type matr'L and bottom padded with lots of cloths, you might try a cat box, by finding where it's "Spot" for the bathroom is and placing it there maybe the opossum will? They do carry parasites but do not carry viruses ie rabies and others, opossum feces is how parasite spreads to other pets and animals, I've gotten orphaned opossums they are hairless just out of the pouch and are about 2.5 to 3 months old, Texas P&W release the young at 7" tip to tail (which is about teenage yrs)
i wish we had them in the UK. of all the animals that would scurry past me when i was in Texas, Possums were the cutest by far. all we have is rats, squirrels, hedgehogs (cute but prickly)
Good for you, boy-O! I love opossums too. They come into my home (via how my cat comes in and out) and eats my pets food. They are non-aggressive, disease free (something about their low body temperature) and only live about 2 to 4 years in the wild. They are America's only marsupial (think kangaroo and koala).
Love it! I am raising a baby possum myself right now, glad to see you giving it kisses! I thought i might be the only crazy person out there that would give a possum a kiss. They are such misunderstood animals.
Oh I just love that video I just saw love love love your possum I had a friend that also had a possum and she got it as a baby and watch that possum grow and that possum was one of the best pet she ever had and your possum is named crash correct? There are so many people that are very afraid of possums and I think is a little girl I was also because I heard all the rumors about them but as an adult woman I definitely have a love for them now thank you so much for the video
Crash is gorgeous!! You took great care of her so, you are "mom" to her. I must agree with a previous poster about the affection you feel for Crash by giving her kisses is a positive thing. Though she does not know the human meaning of them, she does know it feels like grooming which is something she appreciates. Best of luck with your beauty, Crash. I hope she outlives her life expectancy by at least a decade. Take care.
That's nice, and You're right, they are really nice and quiet animals.I honestly don't understand all the hate people have for them, they're not aggressive in any way,and I've seen and caught many wild ones, moving them to a park to get them out of the streets.Have a good time raising Your little one,You'll have a sweet pet for the rest of it's life.
So cute! So incredibly Cute!! =3 They're quite sweet and affectionate...My mom and I had two when I was younger. Mine - her name was Kimberly (long story) - actually stole a banana from my step-dad when he was walking by her with it.
My wife, Starr and me we love Opossums. We got NIÑO when he was a tiny guy in our backyard -door and stay 11 months with us , we put him in the yard one morning and he go to the wild and didn't comeback like other times. Now, 6 days ago I found in the road to BONITA , a little girl Opossum and now she is part of our family. Your Opossum, CASH is lovely. Thanks for your video. CAPISTRANTOMAS YOU TUBE
I can't count how many views I've given you! 😂 I've rehabbed three. Letting go is damn near impossible. Two in my chicken coop which I still take care of till winter's over and a female I'm keeping. Her name's Martha. I've been bitten by the bug of possum love!! ❤❤❤
Bravo! Wow! That was really awesome! Just today I came across a video of someone having a pet Opossum. It was being so affectionate, that I had to search for more videos. Your video was really fun to watch, and I like the song. Good job!
not trying to be mean cherrytoasterpastry but I have teeth does that mean ill bite, of course anything could bite but I had a possum for a long time named Vinnie and he ws the kindest animal ever wouldn't hurt a fly. I sincerely am not trying to be a smart mouth but I trusted my Vinnie 100 percent yes I said it 100 percent
We just found one in our backyard a baby abandoned by its mom who used to come by and eat from our kitchen guess she expected her baby to do the same yet now we have the little girl inside and she is eating way better food now and loves it she is so cute and funny and a very welcomed member of our family. I have a 14 year experience working at a animal breeding center we had over 7k critters sometimes wildlife agents are called to check out what I am doing so I just tell them about my time at the breeding center and they go running off due to my experience outstripping theirs LOL

THANK YOU...for sooo beautiful video...Myself I got two little Opossums like your CRASH Opossum and now one is free in the yard and the other is living inside of our house in his Big-Cage and running in the morning over the Yard with my two dogs and 3 cats. The Opossums are GREAT GUYS outside and lovely PETS. when they are living in the house.: CAPISTRANTOMAS
i'm glad to see this video cause it opened my eyes about opossums i have one in the yard going between neighbors deck and my yard big looks white n beige i've seen it like yhree times i didnt kno to be scared or what to do but i see you with yours and changed me im still gonna stay away from it but i have understanding now not a serious Danger kind of cute and intresting
Why is everyone commenting on the music? I hate country music too but this is one of the few country songs that I think is actually good. Oh well. Awesome video; what a cute possum and what a nice thing you did, saving it :)
Even the fact that I trusted my WELL RAISED Golden Retriever with never biting me on purpose, he could have gotten rabies and become crazed and then bitten me so true..
I have one under the house that is almost hand trained. I was wondering if they can be house broke, you know, use a cat box? Also, I have been feeding it meat, which she will take from my hand and loves it, she smacks her lips when eating meat. LOL I will give her fruit now, after seeing this video and others. Crash is a beauty. The one I feed was all scruffy when I first started feeding her, now she is clean and looks real healthy. A little friendship goes a long way, doesn't it? :o)
to be honest I got here from one of my trapping videos as that was the next line up that UA-cam selected glad to see you enjoyed your pet be careful trying that with something else opossums are relatively simple minded their bodies are more olfactory scent based than anything and they are very early species on this planet and to boot are highly resistant to rabies and eat insects including ticks and therefore help reduce that population to though of course with all the mice and deer there ain't nor would there be enough opossums to deal with them as something so small and hard to locate would not likely make up much of its diet and only enough to cover the lands carrying capacity could survive
I love your video Kolten. See mine - Shmooky the opossum eats apples -. Eventually I will make one like you from the first day we sheltered him. Best to you family, Nenad
what did you feed him when you first got and what all care do you have to do to them when there babies? i found one last night and the mother was hit by a car and its about the same size as your when you got it. what all should i do for it? ive been giving it water through a dropper and feeding it tuna fish and wet catfood.
I have a baby possum the exact same size. What are you feeding it out of the bottle? I really need to know asap lol Thanks. Any advice on bathing or if it needs certain shots would be awesome.
Opossums like to eat Mixed nuts,(be sure to take the salt off first. Just run water over them. ) Apples, grapes, banana, To top off there bowl, I give them yogart, (strawberry or blueberry) and once a week I'll poach them an egg. And if there still hungary, they will rade the cat bowl. Make sure they have fresh water every day.
i've been tagged before. A bull terrier jumped up and got me in the face. an inch either way and that dog would've taken an eye. my only reaction was "am i bleeding?" a rottweiler tried to get me but that didn't phase me much. I trust animals more than people.

There so cute. Thank you for saving the little one. I have 2 that live under my house. They come into my utility room every night where I feed them.
Such a good video. I love them . They are the best pet. I love to see them in nature if they were safer... But I always worry about them.
I love Crash. Thank you for sharing.

Opossums are so cute when not covered in mange
Ohh, mah soul! What a cutie!
We just found one in our backyard a baby abandoned by its mom who used to come by and eat from our kitchen guess she expected her baby to do the same yet now we have the little girl inside and she is eating way better food now and loves it she is so cute and funny and a very welcomed member of our family. I thought your pet opossum crashed at first, when i read the title.
what a pretty possum
Cute, cute, cutest thing, but I know they don't live very long...That's sad for all of us!
Sweet. Thanks a lot for sharing. :D
I love this vid
this makes me want a pet possum
to be honest I got here from one of my trapping videos as that was the next line up that UA-cam selected glad to see you enjoyed your pet be careful trying that with something else opossums are relatively simple minded their bodies are more olfactory scent based than anything and they are very early species on this planet and to boot are highly resistant to rabies and eat insects including ticks and therefore help reduce that population to though of course with all the mice and deer there ain't nor would there be enough opossums to deal with them as something so small and hard to locate would not likely make up much of its diet and only enough to cover the lands carrying capacity could survive
I love this!!! Thank you for helping the babies. Do you still have her?
I love your video Kolten. See mine - Shmooky the opossum eats apples -. Eventually I will make one like you from the first day we sheltered him. Best to you family, Nenad
what did you feed him when you first got and what all care do you have to do to them when there babies? i found one last night and the mother was hit by a car and its about the same size as your when you got it. what all should i do for it? ive been giving it water through a dropper and feeding it tuna fish and wet catfood.
I miss mine . I wish s/o would give me a breading pair , babies , for free .But then I've read they carry the certain diseases .
AGH! Opossum = beautiful!
I have a baby possum the exact same size. What are you feeding it out of the bottle? I really need to know asap lol Thanks. Any advice on bathing or if it needs certain shots would be awesome.
Crash is great! They are fun, aren't they? And it looks like Crash found the right home.....
Opossums eat cockroaches, rodents, and garbage, and have a very low susceptibility to rabies. They are entirely beneficial animals
Opossums like to eat Mixed nuts,(be sure to take the salt off first. i've been tagged before. A bull terrier jumped up and got me in the face. an inch either way and that dog would've taken an eye. my only reaction was "am i bleeding?" a rottweiler tried to get me but that didn't phase me much. I trust animals more than people.
