£7k for this house is a real bargain!! 👍👏 The interior of the house seems quite liveable although of course it needs a lot of work. But, similar to many others that dedicate their time on DIY, with a lots of attention and love you will achieve good results and sure enjoy your OWN property and because Bulgaria has a quite arable land, you will enjoy growing very tasty tomatoes, veggies, fruits, etc. There are many jars because food is stored in them for the winter it is called "zimnina" derived from the Bulgarian word zima i.e. winter. They are usually pickles, sour cabbage, green tomatoes, or anything that can be conserved. This tradition exists until today. Usually sugar, salt and vinegar are used to preserve the foods, but also the cold acts like a natural refrigerator. They are prerpared in later summer/early autumn. Try to avoid buying veggies from larger supermarkets because they are imported from other countries and very tasteless or taste like plastic. Stick to the smaller shops or the weekly pazars with natural products especially honey, wine, rakia, walnuts, etc. Most towns have them. Ask your closest neighbours if you are not sure. Welcome to your new home, Bulgaria family and have a peaceful life 🙏
What a lovely comment ☺️ Thank you so much. We plan on growing our own food and sticking to Bulgarian traditions by learning from our neighbours who are becoming our friends ❤️😌
we bought our's for 3,400 pounds 13 years ago (4,000 k eu)...it's pretty big but prices are rising of course, get in now while you still can I'd say. We are in a Village called Mihailovo, 20 miles south of Stara Zagora. Your struggles were ours (and still are, many years later)...but keep at at and you'll get there. We are happy to be friends, chew the cud or give advice should you want that....take care and enjoy the ride.
village houses that are not close to major cities are still incredibly cheap in Bulgaria even by Bulgarian standards, lol. Those houses are mostly abandoned homes, for example someones great-great grandma/grandpa passed away, nobody wants to deal with the hassle of restoring the house or anything, and they just sell it for cheap, like for just the plot value, the house is just.. a bonus? Thats how my grandparents got a house of their own, since now they're pensioners so they are starting to move away from city life, they bought a cheap house, since the previous owner passed away and nobody wanted to deal with the house, so they sold it and my grandparents bought it and renovated it, now they live there and the plot is actually quite big, so they got a huge garden in which they plant a lot of stuff and the entire plot is level so it's perfect. I sincerely recommend to everyone, whenever possible, buy those homes and take care of them, the value is insane.
Yes, you're right. People don't understand that the Bulgarian residents are happy to sell the house and remove the stress of dealing with it. This house was owned by two elderly grandparents and their children sold the house to us. They were happy to sell the house to a young family, knowing that we would love and care for the property. Everyone wins!
Lovely house! With a little touch it will be wonderful new home 🖤 P.s. the bottles - usually in Bulgaria we use those bottles during the summer we make tomatoes juice and basically u can have it with vodka during the winter or use it for cooking , but also if you don’t want them , some of them can be returned to the shops (usually the beer bottles) and they have to pay u back like 20 or 25 stotinki (Bulgarian pence) per bottle :) the jars 🫙 also we use for conservation of food like … basically whatever xd strawberries, tomatoes, pickles 🥒, pears and apples 🤷🏼
Thank you! There are lots of preserves in the rooms we haven't touched yet so I assumed this was what they were for! We are hoping to preserve our own food so I'd like to reuse what we have ❤️

Thank you! Anthony's Dad is a tradesman so we checked it out with him before we bought it. We do plan on finishing it off and giving it a proper exterior layer, as you say. It's so lovely and cool inside and seems to retain heat when we put the fires on. We are very lucky to have found such a solid building.
Good deal. Can you summarize daily expenses like electricity gas water and proximity to grocery store to buy necessary items, medical store and yes what about public transport.

Great buy, plenty of scope and opportunity to build a lovely family home at a fraction of the normal cost. Just make sure your roof and gutters are in good working order because the winters are heavy in europe and water damage really breaks down building quickly in europe , it not like the Uk, i think it because of the extremes in weather. Nice wood burner Cooker for the kitchen for winter and another for the House you be super toasty. Have fun with the build process. Any ideas for making a living, that the most difficult part for most
Thank you! Yes, the gutters need some attention. I work as a freelance writer which brings in most of our income. It's not a lot, but enough to keep us comfortable 😊
ah great, what type of freelance writing do you do ?, often thought of doing that myself as I love writing,,,where would you one start etc@@the_phoenixproject
Life is never completely stress-free but the quantity and "quality" is completely different. The stress is not the soul-crushing daily grinding to end up without anything that's yours. In a Bulgarian village, with your own home, a big chunk of fertile land and a wood burning stove, you'll never fear for the basics. And life is just so slow, everything is so calm.
I wish you all the best , I did this back in 2018 , purchased a house in a small village in south moravia cz . My only advice is always budget for the small unexpected items .
We are in the Veliko Turnovo region, but I would recommend visiting and exploring the country for yourself so you can find the best place for your needs 🙂

I'm also hoping to buy a house in Bulgaria. My daughter and I learnt to ski there, in Borovets. Bulgaria has some of the best food in the world! How would you reconmend I get started on a property search, can you reconmend a website please
There are a few companies you could go through, but be cautious of English agents raising the prices. It is better to have a Bulgarian agent who can speak the language for you. Ideal Homes (Ves and Lee) are great, but I've also heard good things about Bulgarian Property Experts. It is best to plan a visit here to explore the villages and towns and then decide where you like best. Feel free to ask us any questions you may have 😊💕
Can I ask a question? How are you guys even able to buy property there? I am from America and my bf is also an American citizen and when I looked up buying places in bulgaria it kept saying they don't allow foreigners to buy land there. So how did you guys do it?
Hi; do you plan home schooling? If you planned to do homeschooling are they going to be schooled to the British curriculum or bulgarian. Many thanks in advance.
We are releasing a buyer's guide this week! I'll drop you the link here when it's out so you can grab it. It contains a list of reputable agents and popular places to buy, plus a Bulgarian phrase book 😊
Yes, of course! We have both used the emergency services here and received exceptional care. You can pay into the healthcare system once you are a resident and purchase health insurance.
were moving to the north of bulgaria hopeful;y next year. bought our house (well its being signed for next month). just got to sort visas out@@the_phoenixproject
H how did you buy it,which company did you go through please. We have heard of people buying on ebay and a company on land for sale but we don't know whether you could trust them as to whether they even have the rights to sell the property Did you view it first or just buy it We know of somebody who just had a bad experience trying to buy there They were talked into putting a deposit to hold the property €2.000 as they were told others also wanted it. They also paid €1200 for a holiday to view it. They previously paid somebody allready living in Bulgaria £250.00 to view and make a video,to which they were told there was nothing majorly wrong with the property When they got there both Houses needed seriously underpinning, floors were running down, ceiling, plaster all cracked totally not habitable Yet the video seemed to look fine Total waste of about £3,500.00
We wouldn't trust anyone except Ideal Homes (Veselin Valchev). We visited last year and viewed properties with Ves. We found this one and he arranged everything for us and was completely transparent with everything. NEVER put down deposits! There are lots of con-artists in Bulgaria (mostly Westerners) so it is crucial to find someone you can trust. Ves is Bulgarian and has been helping foreigners buy properties for a very long time. He can also arrange visas etc. I wouldn't trust anyone else with the process of purchasing a house. It is easier if you speak fluent Bulgarian, but if you don't, you need someone trustworthy.
Also, never buy a house unless you have seen it in person and had a builder's opinion on the house. Anthony's Dad is a builder and he checked the house for us before we bought it. We saw it in person before any money was exchanged. You can take a risk and buy online but it is a big gamble.
You can pay at the local town hall or online I believe, but we haven't got to that stage just yet! It's not a lot of money though. We will include it in our videos when it happens.
Visit Bulgaria, hire a car, and drive around to experience the different villages. We prefer the north for the weather and soil quality, but you may have different preferences!
You will freeze in the house during winter and summer will be extremely hot! You need an electrician's work because probably dangerous, need a septic tank, need a fence, need insulation everywhere including the roof, new windows, a general renovation in the house, a new bathroom, a new kitchen, and new everything because probably mold everywhere! So believe me these things are very expensive and you can't find proper workers because even if you can do these you have to pay for the material which is very pricey now. Good luck!
Dear Sharon, do you live in Bulgaria maybe? Do you buy a house here? You have no idea what is going on here! This is not negative thinking, this is real life!
This house is brick-built and has been checked by a British builder. Most houses are mud brick, but this one is very sturdy and has survived many years of harsh weather. It's a great property and we are lucky to have found it!
Our girls are only ages 2 and 4. We would like to continue home educating because it is best for our family. Please, no lectures about socialising until after you meet your children 😆 They are the most happy, confident kids I've ever seen with lots of new friends in Bulgaria!
@@the_phoenixproject I've got no lectures to give friend. I'm genuinely curious. I have been spending more time looking at property outside of the U.S. but I don't know any ex-pats.
@@Nafo-Radio honestly I've responded to so many comments about the kids education it's made my head spin 😆 What's funny is that my kids are always very friendly and never shy! They are so happy and confident. I'm so proud of everything we've done for them. Home education is hard but worth it!
Yayyy I can finally afford a house. But will probably be murdered and there is tonnes of work to get it looking like a normal house in England. Still it looks cool, but what do you do for work there in Bulgaria?
There are far less murders in Bulgaria than there are in the UK so I don't know what you are talking about plus an added bonus is that we don't stab eachother every day. I am not suprised by the ignorance of the English at all though.
Да! Говоря български! We are learning and practicing every day. I started learning about a year ago and can hold conversations with neighbours and traders at the market which makes a HUGE difference to our experience. Many English people complain about how Bulgarians are miserable and mean, but we've had the opposite experience, I guess because we speak the language! It's always my advice to anyone moving to a foreign country. Learning the local language and culture is the first and most important sign of respect ❤️
I'm not really sure what you are saying here.... We've had plenty of rain and cold weather already and we are nice and warm. It's not very nice to call our home a "dump". Please be nicer with your comments next time 🤷
Welcome to our beautiful country. I hope you have the best of time out here.

Thank you! Anthony's Dad is a tradesman so we checked it out with him before we bought it. We do plan on finishing it off and giving it a proper exterior layer, as you say. It's so lovely and cool inside and seems to retain heat when we put the fires on. We are very lucky to have found such a solid building.
Best thing to do now as the U.K. is really sinking.Good luck.
Hi, I am not a mason, what clued you into the "one skin of bricks"? Just asking for my own reference. Thank you

Thank you 😊🙏
Good deal. Can you summarize daily expenses like electricity gas water and proximity to grocery store to buy necessary items, medical store and yes what about public transport.

Greetings from Florida. 🌊🌞🦟👣🐊🏄♂️🏄♀️🏊♀️🏊♂️🍊🐬
Well, hello Florida from Bulgaria! 🤗❤️ Thanks for following along and for the kind words!
It's not a lot, but enough to keep us comfortable 😊
ah great, what type of freelance writing do you do ?, often thought of doing that myself as I love writing,,,where would you one start

Loved Bulgaria and move there if younger
It's lovely here. Not without its challenges, but a lot of people retire here! It's never too late 😊❤️
Been there done that many yrs ago!!!! good luck, winters very cold need good wood burner, & rads all fitted by a decent firm.....
We have two wood burning stoves and radiators so we are all set for winter!
Living in rural Bulgaria is anything but stress-free 😂 Anyways, best of luck in your endeavours.
Haha yes, but the stresses are generally solvable! Just a lot of hard work 😆 Thank you ❤️
Life is never completely stress-free but the quantity and "quality" is completely different.
Hi. What village and region are they if i may ask. I'm thinking about moving to Bulgaria
We are in the Veliko Turnovo region, but I would recommend visiting and exploring the country for yourself so you can find the best place for your needs 🙂
Congratulations 👏🎉
Can anyone buy property in Bulgaria?
Yes, pretty much! 😁
Whay estate agencies do you recommend please for buying a house in Bulgaria? We are coming to view houses in September, this will be our second time. 1st time not so successful! Happily following you on tiktok 😊

Just stumbled across your channel and we love it! Congrats on the move, it’s a big step into the unknown. We did similar to you 6 years ago and things have worked out ok. We had some ups and downs but anything is possible with a bit of positivity. There’s so much more to life away from the rat race….. keep up the good work, sending wishes from a neighbouring country….. ps, slow down when you pan round with the camera, we got sea sick 😂😂
Aw thanks guys! Can you let us know which points you mean about panning? We've watched this video and not sure when you are talking about 😅 Thanks for the feedback!
@@the_phoenixproject Hi, this is our fault, it was in a previous video you posted, the one where you were exploring what was left behind, in an outbuilding, the barrel featured and lots of empty crates of bottles, sorry didn’t mean to waste your time, we should have explained ourselves x
@@tinkerla8195 don't be silly it's ok! Sometimes the footage is a bit 'Blair Witch Project' because we are filming it in the thick of the moment 😅 We are working our way up to being able to afford a new camera and tripod with better audio equipment. We always appreciate feedback 💕🙏☺️

You have to open a Bulgarian company and you buy the property through this. We did a video on it! Check out our video playlists ❤️😊
Hi; do you plan home schooling? If you planned to do homeschooling are they going to be schooled to the British curriculum or bulgarian. Many thanks in advance.
We are home educating using a British curriculum.
Can you point me in the right direction of where to start? Best places to buy from etc?
We are releasing a buyer's guide this week! I'll drop you the link here when it's out so you can grab it. It contains a list of reputable agents and popular places to buy, plus a Bulgarian phrase book 😊

How and where would I go about buying my own?
You need a license here and you need to join a local hunting group I believe. The restrictions are very strict here.
enough land too build a few more houses for profit imo about 15k to build idk
Nooo just for veggies and animals! It's only half an acre 😅
@thephoenix_project You're gonna love growing your own stuff. This is paradise on earth. I'm happy for you guys.
What area did you move to please
We are just outside of Veliko Tarnovo. We can't reveal our location for safety purposes I'm afraid 😔
I don't know in which ares are houses still cheaper to buy??
All over Bulgaria! Don't believe the agents. They are putting up the prices due to popularity. It's best to visit and see where you like first.

Hey do you still have this house? Whats its value now?
Hmm, I wouldn't know without asking an agent. Certainly more than we bought it for! But we have no plans to sell it. It is our dream home 😊
@@the_phoenixproject good living peacefully 👍
Wow
A few years from now in Bulgaria locals wont afford houses anymore like it happened it Portugal.
Locals can't afford houses now, but it's also because there is no work in the villages and towns.
what about the healthcare system is one allowed access it if one becomes ill
Yes, of course! We have both used the emergency services here and received exceptional care. You can pay into the healthcare system once you are a resident and purchase health insurance.
How is the police there is it comparible to what we have in england and the netherlands?
They are quite good as far as I've seen!
what part of bulgaria is your house i see you have plenty logs for winter
We are in the North of Bulgaria 😁
were moving to the north of bulgaria hopeful;y next year. bought our house (well its being signed for next month). just got to sort visas out@@the_phoenixproject
H how did you buy it,which company did you go through please.
We have heard of people buying on ebay and a company on land for sale but we don't know whether you could trust them as to whether they even have the rights to sell the property
Did you view it first or just buy it
We know of somebody who just had a bad experience trying to buy there
They were talked into putting a deposit to hold the property €2.000 as they were told others also wanted it.
They also paid €1200 for a holiday to view it.
They previously paid somebody allready living in Bulgaria £250.00 to view and make a video,to which they were told there was nothing majorly wrong with the property
When they got there both Houses needed seriously underpinning, floors were running down, ceiling, plaster all cracked totally not habitable
Yet the video seemed to look fine
Total waste of about £3,500.00
We wouldn't trust anyone except Ideal Homes (Veselin Valchev).
That is a good deal, if it is really only 7k , Where is the catch?
I suppose the catch is that it needs major renovation work, and living here is not easy. Yes, it was only £7,000, but there is a lot of work involved!
@@the_phoenixproject Thank you for the answer. Please, visit also the black sea coast in the summer, it is nice, camping there.
@@MagicMiro we definitely will visit! We have our campervan and it is only 2 hours driving 😁
Flipping heck !!...£7K !!...nice one, now that really is a proper bargain......where abouts in BG is this ?
The North near Veliko Tarnovo 😊
@@the_phoenixproject. OK, well I bought a place in Oresh, near to Svishtov, but got stung for 17K Levs 😢
@@the_phoenixproject Hey, thats the ancient capital. Good area.
What is the deal with paying similar things to council tax there?
You can pay at the local town hall or online I believe, but we haven't got to that stage just yet! It's not a lot of money though. We will include it in our videos when it happens.
Oh Jesus Christ was the most honest thing you said.
Everything we say is honest 😆🙈
What is the procedure when Turkish citizens want to buy a house?
I think it's quite straightforward because Turkey is in the EU, right? EU citizens can buy property here with no problems.
Yes, but we are not EU members, we are not citizens of the European Union, we are citizens of Turkey.
@@sir_BLDR I'm not sure then. You would have to speak to a Bulgarian lawyer ❤️
@the_phoenixproject thanks for answer 👍
Which part of the country do you recommend , no kids etc.
Visit Bulgaria, hire a car, and drive around to experience the different villages. We prefer the north for the weather and soil quality, but you may have different preferences!
What's the price for a older car 2000 2004 don't have to be nice 😂?
This one is from 2000 but it's a four-wheel drive. You could probably get a cheap run around for 2000 Leva.
Are you sure you bought a house from the person that owns it???
Haha yes 😂 We are still in touch with the previous owners and we have the deeds to the house.
Smart to ditche Portugal. Congrats!
Thank you! ☺️💕🙏
Good luck!
Wow. We never thought about these things before moving here 🤣 I guess we will freeze to death (or boil).
Yawn 😂
Hahaha what a joy the negative person!!
The above comment is hilarious
Dear Sharon, do you live in Bulgaria maybe? Do you buy a house here? You have no idea what is going on here! This is not negative thinking, this is real life!
7k seems cheap but they don't build them to any standard and the chances of walls collapsing are that much greater.😅
This house is brick-built and has been checked by a British builder. Most houses are mud brick, but this one is very sturdy and has survived many years of harsh weather. It's a great property and we are lucky to have found it!
How are you handling education?
Our girls are only ages 2 and 4. We would like to continue home educating because it is best for our family. Please, no lectures about socialising until after you meet your children 😆 They are the most happy, confident kids I've ever seen with lots of new friends in Bulgaria!
@@the_phoenixproject I've got no lectures to give friend. I'm genuinely curious.

Yayyy I can finally afford a house. But will probably be murdered and there is tonnes of work to get it looking like a normal house in England. Still it looks cool, but what do you do for work there in Bulgaria?
Why would you get murdered? 😅 I'm a singer and writer, and my husband is a handyman!
There are far less murders in Bulgaria than there are in the UK so I don't know what you are talking about plus an added bonus is that we don't stab eachother every day. I am not suprised by the ignorance of the English at all though.
@@the_phoenixproject Hi :) As a singer you can work online there also? Good luck guys
The random camera work in the first 5 minutes is dizzying.
Don't watch it then 😆
Charming response - have you never heard of constructive criticism?
Fab can you speak the language?
Wait Unilever winter comes. Rain and snowboard freezinf temperaturen. What a dump. What are THE plans?
I'm not really sure what you are saying here.... We've had plenty of rain and cold weather already and we are nice and warm. It's not very nice to call our home a "dump". Please be nicer with your comments next time 🤷
