  • Happy 45th to Bad Company’s self titled, debut album which came out on this date in 1974!
The song is “Movin’ On” and features the late, great Raymond “Boz” Burrell on bass. He’s got a nice “chug” going on in this one.
Speaking of “chug”, our vacation is chugging along towards its eventual conclusion, but we’ve still got a couple of tricks up our sleeves. Tomorrow is our first show of the season at Bethel Woods. We’re taking Lynn’s Brother, Ted, to see The Royal Affair Tour which features YES, Asia, John Lodge (of The Moody Blues), and Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy (featuring Arthur Brown on vocals). What a line-up! The weather is looking great and I’m looking forward to an enjoyable show. If Arthur Brown does “Fire” I might lose it! That guy is crazy.
On Friday we’re back down to the city to see “The Origin of Love - The Songs and Stories of Hedwig” at The Town Hall. I’m really not sure what sort of format this show is going to take but I’m sure it will be interesting. It started out as a one night event but they kept selling seats and it turned into 3 sold out shows. Somehow, I managed two front row seats at face value which I may wind up trading for a couple of aisle seats a bit further back. Most of the front row and loge seats were $500 VIP’s, all the proceeds of which are going to the Ali Forney Center, an organization committed to protecting homeless LGBTQ youth.
Then, a relaxing Saturday followed by tears on Sunday.
I’m playing the Guild B-302A which has since been converted into a B-301A. The neck pickup from this bass now resides in the Steinberger Synapse that I will get around to posting a cover with eventually.

Boz was(woz?) from a tiny place just down the road from me and actually went to college in my home town of King's Lynn, Norfolk. He also formed his first band there with mates called the tea time 4. Chances are if you were to ask every single person in this town about him, 99% wouldn't know how you ment at all! Still for a little place it's very historic, people just don't care enough!!! Great song and great playing as always Troy!

@@TJH3113 other then the Hammond keyboards that ELP and Arthur shared in that same era, you couldn't ask for two more polar opposite artists. I couldn't imagine the two joining forces on stage since they are different genres. The sad part for me is Keith Emerson dying in March 2016 and Greg Lake 8 months later in December 2016. Talk about a double blow in one year. "Tarkus" is still my all time favorite by ELP, but they made a lot of great albums throughout the 70's. @@TJH3113 My 6-year-old daughter recently saw a St. Jude Hospital commercial that featured a girl on chemo. She asked me why the girl had no hair, and I explained powerful medicine that is fighting the cancer made her hair fall out. So my daughter then asked, "Are you also taking that powerful medicine?" I explained, "No thankfully. My hair is falling out just because I'm getting old." Yes, age 45 is on the near horizon for me, as my belly and hairline remind me.😔😞

I just made this video, and it was EXTREMELY AND DECEPTIVELY HARD! So far, the hardest video I have made. It took me almost 4 hours of practice to get this one close, and I'm still only about 95 percent accurate.
Plus I'm still kinda weak on my ghost notes.
I had a much easier time doing Natural Science by Rush (even though I made tons of mistakes on it).
Getting all of the different parts was tough!
    Good job, BTW/

4 hours is pretty good. I'm sure I had much longer into my cover. Yeah, it's got a cool, chugging feel to it that's sometimes difficult to emulate. I thought you did a great job on it. Keep up the good work!
      Thanks and take care.

@@TJH3113 I appreciate that! I did make a huge mistake on it. I might to it again.

    What strings do you use?

D'Addario EXL220's on just about everything. I use EXL170's on the Bruce Thomas Profile bass.

Did he play a fretless on this track?

    • @TJH3113
      @TJH3113  5 років тому

Yes, I believe he did. I think he played fretless on most of his recordings...he doesn't over-do it though.

@@TJH3113 Notwithstanding your cautionary PSA vid about fretless bass, I beg you to do a fretless number. Consider, perhaps, doing this tune again, on a fretless; the A/B would be enjoyable and instructive. PS: Obviously, posting an ancient vid of your own (if one exists) where you play fretless doesn't count. :) (Begging with respect).

apparently you have to be a young girl that plays an instrument to get lots of subs

I've got more than enough subscribers. If I had any more, I wouldn't be able to respond to every comment.
