Long time Hornady ammo user here. Just a few notes on this pod cast…. Seth is my soul brother, in a sense. I am 59 years old and for as long as I can remember, I love short, light guns and I own 4 cans 👍. I started off with a Glenfield 30-30 in the 80’s. Then I purchased two rifles at the same time to start my own collection. 1) Browning A-Bolt Medallion, .270, with the Boss system and 2) Remington Model 7 youth, 7mm-08, 18 1/2” barrel, Walnut. Both are very accurate and reliable, but the Remington is my go to for hunting season. It’s short, light and easily maneuverable. Bought in 1993, these were dream rifles for me. Years later I picked up a Browning A-Bolt Micro Medallion, .308, and it is a beautiful, fast and accurate rifle. I have others, but these are my focus, because not too long after getting the Remington, I found a “new” ammo. That ammo was Hornady Light Mag. In the short barreled rifles, I give up nothing. My 7mm-08 became a freezer filler for just about any hunting situation I could come across on my land. I began purchasing that ammo for every rifle I owned that I could find ammo for. .308, .243, .270 as well as the 7mm-08 and it performed flawlessly out of all of them. Then many years later, the name changed to Superformance. I was a bit uncertain about the ammo, wondering if it changed, got better or worse. I will say that I own several lines of Hornady ammo for different rifles, calibers and needs, like the American Whitetail, Custom, Black, and Superformance and all are great, but for my bolt guns, I stick to the Superformance … a satisfied customer for decades. Obviously, the Remington and the Browning Micro Medallion aren’t threaded for suppressors, so I am in the process of buying my first short, light, threaded barrel rifle, likely a Weatherby Compact Hunter, at just over 6 lbs, or another rifle that comes in about 5 lbs, in 7mm-08. I absolutely will praise that calibers performance. Both about 38-39 OAL. I’m excited to get it here, and the only ammo I’ll be starting with is the Superformance…. Unless for some strange reason it becomes the first rifle I’ve owned that wouldn’t group with it…. Though I highly doubt that will be the case. Thanks for great products… and for adding to my success over my decades of hunting. BTW … mainly Whitetail, in Arkansas, is what I hunt. Some bobcat, Hogs and coyote too. Take care and good hunting.
Same here in 6.5 with a Savage Hi Country. I bought some precision hunter, but I will continue to use the American Whitetail 129 for deer. It just shoots so well In my rifle. If I draw an Elk tag however, I think I will try the 143 Precision Hunter.
I use Hornady LeverEvolution in all my Marlin 336 30-30's and All my Marlin 1895 45-70govt. Best round in my opinion and performs like a beast especially out of the 45-70govt. Thanks Hornady!!!!
It does not matter what lines of ammunition that hornady makes if the product is not available in your local stores here in Oregon and Washington we cannot even find ammunition in common hunting calibers or any magnum calibers other than 300prc ....much less reloading supplies such as brass bullets and primers or powder... and when you do find ammunition it's priced insanely I just saw 30/ 30 win leverevolution ammunition for $75 a box at a local Big box sporting goods store but can't find 30.06 or 300win or God forbid 300rum ammunition so no elk cartridges at and hunting season starts this month
.🤠 I appreciate you taking the time to talk about your entire product line, even though I already research them out! Great Podcast! Keep up the Good Work! 👍👏👏👏
I handload my hunting ammo and I could not get either of my 3 rifles to shoot ELD-X. I did buy a box of .243 Custom Lite ammo and was extremely impressed with mild recoil and great accuracy. Enjoy the Hornady podcasts.
John, similar results here, even with proper twist. I did achieve some success and tighten the groups by actually reducing charge/velocity. Gave up some MPBR but gained accuracy
I've been pleased with the performance of the ELD-X out of my .270 on Caribou but if I had to choose one bullet from you guys for everything, it would be the CX or Interbond but I haven't seen one of those in a minute.
I wish these would come in boxes of 10 for testing ammo to see which product lines work best with a particular gun. I was at the range today doing this. Some lines had 2 in groups, some 2+ with fliers, and 1 had 1 moa. So I've got a few dozen bullets left over that aren't worth much to me. Maybe I'll just have to pull the bullets & use them for reloading. I can't get whitetail ammo to group less than 2" @100yds in my guns.
If you do not hand load your “own”, ammunition the BEST ammo for you is to find through ALL BRANDS to find what YOUR FIREARM shoots the best. You’ll find that not every firearm “likes”, every single same, type & brand of ammo, contrary as to what Hornady is trying to tell you here. Of course they promote “their”, brand & all forms of it, but the truth is a lot more complex than just picking the “cool”, name. It’s up to you the “shooter”, of said firearm to find regardless of brand, bullet construction, caliber or firearm manufacturer. Of course every ammunition maker will say their ammo is the most consistent, accurate & highest quality but the fact is that not every single caliber, firearm builder & style of firearm will like the currently “popular”, brand or the current #1 seller is. It’s up to YOU, the firearm owner to find the BEST AMMO for YOU!
I have a Mauser 93 chambered in 308 Win. Gun smith advised me that he thought that was too hot to shoot through it because of it being a small ring Spanish made gun. He sold me some of your reduced recoil bullets. They shoot great and I don’t have to think about the bolt being longed in my eye socket before I pull the trigger.
How about adding to the Black Line some big calibers? Maybe add 458 SOCOM (50AE case with a .458 bullet), 8.6BLK (.338/in a Creedmoor case) and 375 Raptor IMHO (.375 in a modified .308 case) These are all fairly popular big bore AR cartridges, and they all are from components Hornady already has. Thats my 2 cents I think Hogs, Elk, Moose, etc are going to be seeing these much more in the future.
I don't often get to any place that sells ammo,so I mostly handload my own.the 308dia. Hornady spire point 150 gr. Has always been the bullet for bringing home the deer for me since 1978. I have tried other companies bullets ,but the Hornady bullets always seemed to drop them faster and ki much quicker ,so I stick with what works best for me .if I ever happen across any of your loaded ammo I'll give it a try.but I really enjoy handloading.and I have more than enough 30-06loaded to last me the rest of my days.i still load ammo for my friends and family.
Always loved your products. I don’t think there is a better bullet made for deer/elk than the interlock at ethical ranges for 90% of hunters. Opens every time retains weight and punches through. I have only ever recovered 1 bullet. Hard quarter away, though middle ribs and lodged under skin in the neck on the off side. 139 gr 7mm 08 at 210yds 2910 muzzle hand load final weight 118 gr and 17 mm max diameter. Spectacular DRT result. Big old Mulie 3x4 265lb dressed.
I listened to the internal ballistics podcast twice and part of this one several times. What a gold mine of information!! I still don’t understand why a bullet is deflected so much by the wind. 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Consider how aerodynamics are able to lift an airplane or keep a Formula 1 racing car on the ground. One thing some shooters forget or don’t consider, the wind that comes into play with drift is more critical the closer to the shooter it is. Wind that impacts the projectile in flight as more effect on impact than the wind farther down range. Some folks think that as the bullet slows and is exposed to the wind down range for longer time, it pushes or changes impact more. However it is the opposite, the slightest wind drift effect starting at the muzzle will continue to compound throughout the duration of the -projectile flight till impact. For example if taking a 600m shot, a 5mph crosswind at full value during the first 100m will change impact significantly more than a 10mph crosswind during the last 100m. The crosswinds have different values depending on portion of the flight path that they occur. Lastly and for example; a 600m shot that has a 5mph cross wind during the first 300m will not be negated or come back with a 5-10mph crosswind in the opposite direction during the last 300m.
Hornady is my most trusted brand! I've switched from .30-06 to 6mm CM this past season as my main whitetail rifle. Many would say it is too light. I figured, "speed kills." I shoot Hornady "Hunter Precision" 6 CM ELD- X, 103 gr. I'm very selective when it comes to deciding to shoot, therefore, I"ve only shot at two deer with the 6 CM. Both were quick kills… the 8pt buck running about 50 yds then dropping dead, the doe never taking a step after a brachial plexus shot (trying to get near instant, humane kills) The only problem, there was no blood trail to speak of with either, despite a small exit hole. I realize that the high shoulder brachial plexus shot placement has a lot to do with no blood trail. But, it there a better offer in Hornady 6CM to enduce blood trails? IDK, involving a penetrator core rod maybe??? Or, was I just spoiled in the performance of the 30-06?
Are the ELD-X bullets bonded? I haven’t had a single one stay together and make a pass through on a whitetail. Every single one has exploded inside and I’ve had no blood trail what so ever. Granted the deer doesn’t go 20-30 yards but still have no blood. Shots range from 50-150 yards.
I should also add I’m shooting a 270 with 145gr bullet. And I shoot behind the shoulder for double lung, not high shoulder or neck shots. Is this bullet meant for high shoulder shots and not double lung?
One thing that wasn’t mentioned regarding the Custom-Lite maybe something that I’ve experienced on my particular 30-06, 24” sporter barrel. 1. The accuracy is impressive. 2. The gap between the initial shot and subsequent follow up shot is negligible. 3 rounds under 0.68. The recoil reduction is wonderful. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to find. Is it just that popular or has it just not caught on?
Great show guys, really picked up some new infor on your bullets. Leads me to wonder the difference between the Custom line and the Whitetail line ? Sounds a lot alike but I'm not sure. I hunt eastern Ky and 90% less than 150 yds if that. So is one line better for that, I use a 308 bolt and some 7mm08 bolt. Appreciate any help but really enjoyed your show.
re Custom Lite: another application (and maybe I missed it in the discussion) would be simply having less recoil when you don't need the full power of a given cartridge. For example, someone who bought a 300 Win Mag for elk, eland or wildebeest could just as well save a little recoil by using Custom Light for whitetail or impala (if it were available in that cartridge).
Seth, any chance we can ask for a similar discussion, but for pure long range precision shooting/use case, ELR/1Mile/2Mile. aka ELDM, A-Tip etc. and loving your pod casts.
My 30-06 loves the precision hunter, superformance and american whitetail I haven't tried the outfitter in it yet. As for my 3030 it loves the leverlution and american whitetail and for my muzzleloader the bore driver loads and shoots nice and smooth so far I haven't found and of the bore driver eldx for it yet.
My .450 Marlin MXLR groups the round nose 350gr bullet about an inch at 100 M , but opens up to about 3" with the Levreveloution at 100M. My favourite when I go to the range is the 405gr hard cast lead, just for the way it recoils lol !!!
Does the hornady black have any kind of consideration for faster powders to optimize velocities for 16 to 18 inch barrels? Gets pretty old buying superformance supposedly optimized for short barrels, shooting it out of a 18 inch, and falling 400 fps short of advertised. But your frontier ammunition comes so close to advertised velocity I literally think they tested with a 20 or 18 inch barrel
Have taken many whitetails over the years with 270Win. 130 gr. SST and 7mm-08 120gr. SST from 20 to 300 yards. With a double lung shot within that range deer go down fast if not instantly. But 3 sholder shots went bad. Lost 1 with 7mm-08 and recovered 2 days later from the 270. All 3 were shot between 150 and 200 yard. The SST exploded on the outside sholder. Still luv em but have learned from my mistakes. Switching to the superformance cx. Give me some room for error. Thanks guys, your awsome.
love my 270. Have killed many black tail and muleys. I use the sierra 130 boat tail from ranges of 50 yards to over 500. They will absolutely anchor your animals
Im anxious to get 6 Creed ammo with a non-expanding fluted bullet for whitetail and great versatility. The hardened bullet busts through shoulder blades; the flutes- at high speed- deliver shock and a large permanent wound cavity for a quick ethical kill. The "high speed" part is paramount. Therefore I"ve been hoping this will be produced by either Underwood or Hornady in the Superformance line, or maybe Weatherby… all known for speed. Any plans for this? I want a lifetime supply.
When is Hornady going to get into the .12" and .14" sub caliber game? Also smokeless muzzleloader bullets could really use some of Hornadys expertise. I used to buy 1000 .284" Amax a year but then it came out that the tips were melting so I had to switch to solid copper bullets. I don't want melted plastic in my meat.
The melted plastic tips were due to very long distance shooting where the sustained friction of the air would begin to melt the tip. This was fixed the ELD and ELD-X line of bullets for those very long range shots. Plus no matter what polymer tipped bullet you use, you always run the chance of the polymer tip being separated and lodged into the animal somewhere. I've found numerous of them in different deer when processing. Plus a little chuck of plastic in your meat isn't gonna hurt us, when we are all using single use plastic where microplastics get into our foods and drinks. Just my 2 cents.
Several times it has been stated that monolithic bullets require 2000fps to open. Is that indeed always the case, even for cartridges like the 45-70, 30-30 and 6.8 SPC that start out at modest velocities? If some of the monolithic bullets are tailored for slower cartridges, it would be helpful to know which ones. Thank you
Great question, and no that is not always the case. Some of the more specialized monolithics have different minimum expansion velocities. Give us a call at 800-338-3220 and press 3, or shoot us an email at tech@hornady.com for the specialized questions.
I thought they said Custom Lite was available in many cartridges from .243 up to .300 Win Mag. Between the air date of this podcast (8/4/22) and today (1/30/25) demand must have dropped or else production can't keep up with demand. Today, the Hornady website only shows four cartridges catalogued in Custom Lite: 243, 7mm-08, 308 & 30-06. (In my case, I was hoping to see 270 Win, and it certainly seems like 7mm Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag would be good candidates.)
One of the things that stood out and it’s true is that East Coast hunters like pass-throughs so we can have a blood trail. West Coast hunters prefer not to have one and distance as their primary objective.
Living in eastern Washington I will have to dispute that. We have open desert and right next to it are forests so thick and hills so steep you can't see anything beyond 30 yards. If not careful the 30-06 can blow the off side shoulder out.
Crucial point. The bullet is the only piece of gear you have that makes physical contact with the animal. Forget which ammo has the best groups, but instead pick the ammo with the correct bullet for your application that has groups that are good enough.
Hornady eld match bullets kill deer sized animals dead, with decent terminal performance. I have witnessed others not do the job with FMJs being the worst. For meat hunting, the headshot is excellent with the right hunter at the right distance with the right rifle. I don't understand why it is frowned upon here. I guess the results are visually unappealing, but all the usable meat is preserved. Accurate 22-250s and .223s work fantastically in this role. I would bet the 6mm Creedmoor and 6mm ARC would be great in this role as well.
That’s always hilarious to me. It’s something I need to keep in mind whenever o get to start hunting out of state, because my home state of Alabama only does tags for Alligators
Hornady needs to focus more on terminal performance than trajectories. The SST line has terrible terminal performance, yet is pushed by your company as a hunting round. In reality it's decent target round. The Interlock offers the best terminal performance of anything your line. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was when the Superformance line dropped the Interlock BTSP in favor of the SST. I gave them a solid opportunity, but the terminal performance was so dismal that I ended up giving it all away and went with a different manufacturer.
Wish I could find ammunition let alone multiple types in the same caliber. Not everyone reloads and match bullets don’t work for hunting. Any idea when you’ll get caught up?
Find some guys that do reload in the meantime, and get them to teach you. I bet many would love to have some company, an pass some info on, and for the added cost of your set of dies you could have the education, and all the rounds you load! Instead of waiting who knows how long, to buy some factory loads, in this material shortage enviroment.
I use Hornady interlock bullets and handload my own precision ammo. Those factory loads aren't as precise as what I handload because my extreme velocity spreads are single digits, and that's where you find top notch accuracy. I use interlock bullets exclusively, which is just about perfect for deer and wild hogs. Custom performance is how I roll and you will not get that from factory loaded ammunition.
It would be great to have bullet and cased bullets plus the box when you mention your bullet choices and explanations. I'm a bit lost in your discussions. But love the back stories.
Heard good things about Black. I am looking for a solid copper hollow point or partitioned bullet for 308 hunting. 125 grain would be great but 150 will work. I use lead ball for 36 and 50 cal. I use wad cutters on 38+p/357. I like a bullet that mushrooms. I don't like blood shot meat. I prefer a slug over buckshot for shotguns. I will check out the mono bullets.
My 6ARC, I bought because of your podcast, sprays black 105. I reloaded some 58vmax/exterminator and 103 ELD-X/leverevolition and all groups were better than the factory 105 black.
They have straight wall 450 Bushmaster in the Black line. They need to add 458 SOCOM (50AE case with a .458 bullet), 8.6BLK (.338/in a Creedmoor case) and 375 Raptor IMHO (.375 in a modified .308 case) These are all fairly popular big bore AR cartridges, and they all are from components they already have.
Great podcast. Really enjoyed the info, but how are you gonna forget the Varmit line? Or not mention how explosive a Vmax is with the superformance line. Works every time!!
Maybe they could expand on why they refuse to make any .260 Remington ammunition? I saw it in their catalog once but they no longer as far as I can see offer ANY .260 ammo as it is a direct competitor to the 6.5 Creedmoor. You know, the cartridge that has done nothing that previous 6.5/.264 can do equally or better. They stood on all that came before in the world of 6.5mm cartridge & ammunition makers & picked a cool old name in “Creedmoor”, package it & send EVERY single gun writer to Africa, North American & anywhere else to hunt for publicity junkets & for them to use the 6.5 Creedmoor so they’ll write it’s the “End-All & Be-All”, cartridge in the 6.5mm/.264 cartridge and you need not look any further than to their 6.5 Creedmoor. Am I biased? NO! However, when I get my latest issue of “Shooting Times”, and there is 5-FIVE articles on the 6.5 Creedmoor in 1-ONE magazine?? Yes, I question Hornady’s advertising & free hunting trips to promote & their effort to kill any & all competitors to their beloved 6.5 Creedmoor. All I can say is literally get a “Non-Hornady”, biased reloading manual & compare the 6.5 Creedmoor to other 6.5mm/.264 cartridges & you’ll see Hornady offers nothing of any % worth switching to “their”, cartridge for. In fact, the Creedmoor hamstrings the round and it is not able to perform w/various other bullet weights in the 6.5mm family can & the Hornady round cannot due to a smaller case. Not saying it’s a bad round by no means but a .260 Rem, 6.5x55mm Swede, .264 Mag or even the 6.5 Remington Magnum can’t duplicate or in many cases well exceed the 6.5 Creedmoor.
True but it was designed to be a accurate target round. Most all new cartridges are very small improvements over the older ones these days. Not much has really changed in bullets in 100yrs when you think about it. The 6.5 PRC they made is the same , its just slightly better than other larger 6.5s or the 270 win. If they quit making 260, it means they aren't selling enough of it. That is directly because there isn't enough folks shooting it. Sadly that is the fact. We can all get mad at them or switch calibers /rebarrel to a more popular round. I wish they made .375 Raptor ,6.8 BLK and 458 Socom as they are newer up an coming big bore AR rounds For hogs, elk, bear, moose etc. . Until they have enough demand, I have to wait, or make my own, or buy from smaller makers. I just looked, and Hornady makes a 129 gr superformance in 260 rem, and a 130 gr ELD Match in 260 remington. Hope that helps.
I shoot SST's for deer in my .308. They are a little tougher than the old ballistic tips. They rarely exit but the internal damage is rough. Any decent shot through the front half of a deer gets it did. My nephew hammers deer near and far with his single shot .243 with the same bullets.
Big fan of your flextip ammo use it in45/70 ,30-30 but can't find it for my 35 rem . Huge fan of your custom lite my grandson killed his first buck with a 120gr.sst 7-08 . I use it in308 and 30-06 . Trouble is the shelves are covered in all your new stuff. I know it's all about selling new guns but feed my old stuff then I'll buy something new
I’ve heard that the ELD-X (precision hunter) has too much expansion and essentially disintegrates at higher velocities.. I picked up 110gr for my 25-06 which will push them around 3100fps.. does anyone have any experiences using them on game?
Shoot a lot of Hornady at the range but I shoot 168 gr Hybrid Hunter by Federal for hunting, they hit exactly like my range ammo out to 500yards. Been thinking about trying the hunting rounds by Hornady, any suggestions?
Greets, guys, I live in Germany and I am looking for advise for something that works on European small Deer to wild boar. I am shooting a 18" bolt rifle with silencer. I have shot the 150gr. SST but just cannot get a good grouping.
Guys you need to get back to making the Interbonds. I know they're more expensive but your Interlock bullets will lose their jackets when they hit bones even in deer. I've experienced poor performance with the sst bullets that have it shoulders on deer. Should not happen with 180gr out of .308 Winchester.
With the dangerous game loading, in my experience and the 12 PH that I know and hunted with over the past 10 years in Africa. None recommend Hornady and consistently recommend Nosler and Swift. I personally have had miss fires, squib loads, and hard primers. I attempted to shoot a box of 9.3x63 of 20 rounds I had 17 bad cartridges and the last was a squib.
I really want to try the precision hunter bullets. 300 win mag . I took a whitetail with win interlocs 150 grain I just say no tracking. But yep I really want to try the precision hunter now where to buy? I have used American whitetail more than any other bullet in 130 gr .270 cal awsome round. In my muzzle loader xtp also .44 mag xtp. Awsome bullets they do what they say.
Not sure why Hornady has a 155gr FTX Critical Defense 308 load when they could have used 130 FTX load. What could they do? - .308 Win caliber - 130gr weight - Nickel case - Flash Reduction powder( like the TAP) - Designed for Semiautomatic actions specifically. - Close Range primarily - Can be used for Coyote if desired. - Focus on energy ft lbs - FTX Critical Defense tip. - Test in 16" and 18" barrels with no muzzle device attached. - Test Socom 16, PSA PA-10, Ruger SFAR, Browning BAR MK3 DBM 308 / Mark III etc
I have been shooting the .45-70 325gr Ftx Lever Revolution for the last 8 years or so. But I would really like to see a 275gr load with equal energy and higher velocity.
I've had some great success with ELD-X as well as really good precision from ELD-M. But bringing up the superformance. I tried the superformance match 75gr 5.56 and it was the absolute least accurate ammunition i have ever shot out of my SPR. Printed 2.5-3 MOA groups at 100 yards for a 10 shot group compared to imi 77gr rzrcore being consistent 0.6-0.8 10 shot groups. was a bit disappointing since Every Bolt gun i've shot ELD-X or ELD-M through as well as my AR10 have all shot well into the 0.5 moa territory consistently. Still running ELD-X for my main elk gun, but have avoided superformance since
My experience w 6.5cm 143 gr eldx on Georgia whitetail…is that…if I shoot high shoulder DRT…if I shoot rear half of front shoulder/center shoulder/just behind the front shoulder…I get a dead deer BUT…I get a 40/75 yard dash w pretty limited blood trail…I do get complete pass through. My shots on these dozen or so bucks (150/180lbs) typically are 50 to 125 yards. Internally the heart lung area is pulp…I just wish there were more blood trail. Anyone else experience similar??
You all make some nice ammo at a very affordable price. Killed a lot with the old 190gr .308 Interlock when I was younger! But dang guys, why did you state that if you could have one line of ammo and one bullet it was the precision hunter with an ELDX? That is a risky bullet in Alaska and Africa. I'm glad at the end is was said the CX was a better choice in Alaska. When you have to punch through a big shoulder or stop a bear the CX or even the regular Interlock that won't expand quite so fast are much better options.
That is a hell of a round for whitetail! I am sure their existing ones will work its just they are all a bit too powerful. Hornady has a New 6.5 PRC 130 gr. CX Outfitter, Item #81622 The 6.5 Creed is much more suited unless your at some very long ranges. The 6.5 PRC is more a Magnum of the 6.5C. Its made for long distance, high velocity (western mountain type) hunting. I learned this as a newb when I shot a whitetail with a 300 Weatherby magnum. Its just too much for a whitetail like the 6.5PRC. Hope that helps.
Thanks for explaining all your types of ammunition.
My .308 x bolt shoots American whitetail 150 grain into .5” groups at 100. Been finding for around $25 a box, hard to beat that
Mine shoots it lights out also. Been finding for the same price
Same here in 6.5 with a Savage Hi Country. I bought some precision hunter, but I will continue to use the American Whitetail 129 for deer. It just shoots so well In my rifle. If I draw an Elk tag however, I think I will try the 143 Precision Hunter.
Thank you, I often go into the store and am confused on what to get for ammo. This helps out quite a bit.
Amazing podcast. The banter was great and good to hear what you actually use as well.
I use Hornady LeverEvolution in all my Marlin 336 30-30's and All my Marlin 1895 45-70govt. Best round in my opinion and performs like a beast especially out of the 45-70govt. Thanks Hornady!!!!
It does not matter what lines of ammunition that hornady makes if the product is not available in your local stores here in Oregon and Washington we cannot even find ammunition in common hunting calibers or any magnum calibers other than 300prc ....much less reloading supplies such as brass bullets and primers or powder... and when you do find ammunition it's priced insanely I just saw 30/ 30 win leverevolution ammunition for $75 a box at a local
Big box sporting goods store but can't find 30.06 or 300win or God forbid 300rum ammunition so no elk cartridges at and hunting season starts this month
You lucky fellas are living the American dream. To work for such a great company has to be a real pleasure.
I have an AR chamber in 7.62/39, the Hornady Black are leathel on deer and hogs. Great round
.🤠 I appreciate you taking the time to talk about your entire product line, even though I already research them out!
Did you try the 90 gr ELD-X or the 103 ELD-X? Slower twist 243's may not stabilize the 103 very well.
My go to in my Tikka T3X is the 165gr CX .308 Outfitter, North Florida hogs and whitetail never get off the food plot, great work gentlemen!
Thanks for sharing!
Last minute snuck in there's a subsonic 30-30, gonna need to try that and lever evolution this year.
Love those whitetail interlocks. Deadly accurate. .3/4 inch group at 200yds and 1 inch at 300yd. Deer just drop
That's fantastic accuracy. What gun and caliber?
@joe woodchuck savage axis II precision in 6.5 creedmoor. Deer rifle is a savage 110 ultralite in same caliber.
@@c.r.rg9529 Savage has something really good going on. I have one of their .22 LR's. Most accurate rimfire I'd ever hope to have in a sporting rifle.
@joe woodchuck yes they make good rifles. Got my grand daughters savage axis ii 22lr. Very accurate as well.
True. 100%. Now go do that with 300PRC at the same price range as Hornady sells it.
Well said.
Except they never said that their ammo works for every rifle out there, they were saying what the ammo was designed for and why.
There sabbots most deff suck out of a rifled shotgun.. and I mean ten diff models that shoot other ammo like a tack driver ..20 gauge and 12 gauge
My favorite Hornady load. Is the Critical Defense 12ga 8 pellet 00 buckshot. 1600 fps, 8 .33 caliber balls speeding towards the threat. 👍
I personally love #4 buckshot 27 .22 caliber projectiles.
@@armstrong2052 cool 😎 👌 👍
Learned so much!! Thank you for videos like this
How about adding to the Black Line some big calibers? Maybe add 458 SOCOM (50AE case with a .458 bullet), 8.6BLK (.338/in a Creedmoor case) and 375 Raptor IMHO (.375 in a modified .308 case) These are all fairly popular big bore AR cartridges, and they all are from components Hornady already has. Thats my 2 cents I think Hogs, Elk, Moose, etc are going to be seeing these much more in the future.
The answer is whatever you can find on the shelf! Availability in my area is still terrible in general
I killed an oryx at 400 yards with 308 american whitetail ammo. Worked great and that interlock really penetrated.
I had a 450 bm ruger ar15 that shot custom and black perfectly.
The best ammo for me is what comes off of my loading bench - with Hornady bullets of course.
Eldx in 6.5 c has proven effective for me on several large muleys, Interlock in 300 mag I took Elk, blacktail.
Just wish you could find half the ammo you guys talked about.
Or, was I just spoiled in the performance of the 30-06?
btw, I have not recovered the bullet in those shots above.
Another way of asking my question could be, "Should I use a monolithic for a high shoulder shot??? Then does that exist in the HP eld-x?
American whitetail!!!! 243 ,308,3006 my fav..great anmo
Is there a plan to offer the Short Action Ultra Mag (SAUM) ammo to the Custom line?
The best match would probably be Hornady using Superformance powder technology to avoid over-bore barrel burnout.
If you think the plastic is bad what about the lead bullet it’s much more toxic then the plastic! You might want to think about going copper.
When are yall gone release some outfitter or superpreformance for 6.5 Prc
One of the things that stood out and it’s true is that East Coast hunters like pass-throughs so we can have a blood trail. West Coast hunters prefer not to have one and distance as their primary objective.
Living in eastern Washington I will have to dispute that. We have open desert and right next to it are forests so thick and hills so steep you can't see anything beyond 30 yards. If not careful the 30-06 can blow the off side shoulder out.
Now if we could just get people use the hunting bullets for hunting and target bullets for target shooting instead of wounding lots of game🤔😳
Your a close minded fool
Any thing less than the the Interbond is not optimal
😊
I need something in the superformance line. I want velocity. 300winmag and 308win. Thinking about trying the cx bullet. Idk??
a hidden advantage of the spire tip is you can use it as a pencil to fill out your tag
I want it to pass through like my arrows at close range. I want great penetration.
My 6ARC, I bought because of your podcast, sprays black 105. I reloaded some 58vmax/exterminator and 103 ELD-X/leverevolition and all groups were better than the factory 105 black.
What the hell happened to the 338 Winchester magnum?
is there any chance a larger 450 bullet will be used in the black line? id love to see a 300-325gr bullet as well as the 250ftx.
Why don’t we see the interbond anymore?
Great podcast. Really enjoyed the info, but how are you gonna forget the Varmit line? Or not mention how explosive a Vmax is with the superformance line. Works every time!!
For this one, we just focused on medium to big game ammunition. We did a whole podcast on V-Max bullets though later on!
So in 6.5 Grendel choose black for hunting? That has the eldm bullet and custom as sst. In a gas gun you suggest Black?
What do you suggest for my 55.6 16 inch barrel 1 in 7 twist. (Frontier)
Really wish I could find some 7-30 waters ammo. Last I checked, federal was the only ones making any. And since covid I can't find anything at all.
I know it's all about selling new guns but feed my old stuff then I'll buy something new
Hornady cx is insanely awesome
Hornady had a Light Magnum line with two different 308 bullets which I loved. What is their equivalent?
Light Magnum transitioned in to the Superformance line
i started to reload SST but have heard they fall apart, have not tried yet but we will see
They are ruthless on deer from my .308. They kill quick. They jelly lungs.
To much meat loss for me . Go CX lot better bullet
I haven’t found that to be the case. I’ve used them in a variety of cartridges and have had great results.
They just explode and ruin a lot more meat
@chadwallace3598 I've now used on 2 deer and worked amazing bothe shots were at 130 yards
Hey fellas what does Hornady offer that is equal to the 168 gr hybrid hunter 308 by federal??
Can we see a 6.5 creedmoor eld-x in a 140gr. Option?
Any Hornady bullet is good in my opinion, will harvest anything in Alabama..
Thanks. I heard about a product line I didn't know about. I'm going to look into lever gun rounds.
If I wanted to hunt 100 yards in with a 300 blk out and use subsonic ammo which would I use.
Subsonic line with the 190 grain Sub-X bullet hands down
Not eld-x or sst, they both shatter like vmax
They come apart in 270 and 06 as well, with a bone hit. Actually had an 06 come apart at 25yrds on a Bobcat. Don't shoot the sst anymore.
When are we getting sealed precision hunter?
Have you guys shot the ELD-X with a Savage 110 Ultralite 6.5PRC?
Only complaint with American Whitetail for the 6.5 CM , it doesn’t exit . Accurate and deadly yes but no blood trail on the one I had to track lol
I dropped a bull moose in one shot 165 grain hornady whitetail 300wsm a great mushrooming load
Need to start making more 338rcm superformaces
Sadly the Outfitter and Precision Hunter lines are not offered in 223 Remington.
I wish the SST had a thicker jacket…it’s overly destructive on game in every cartridge I’ve tried it in.
Thank You ...
Not sure why Hornady has a 155gr FTX Critical Defense 308 load when they could have used 130 FTX load.
What could they do?
- .308 Win caliber
- 130gr weight
- Nickel case
- Flash Reduction powder( like the TAP)
- Designed for Semiautomatic actions specifically.
- Close Range primarily
- Can be used for Coyote if desired.
- Focus on energy ft lbs
- FTX Critical Defense tip.
Why do you own a 4570 if you're afraid of recoil. 400 grain at 1800 fps will kill nearly anything on the planet.
143 ELD-X for me!
That whitetail American Nissan lights out for big deer .243 , 308 , 06 whoppers, puts em in the dirt.
Still running ELD-X for my main elk gun, but have avoided superformance since
No bonded options?
Barnes or nosler. Hornady terminal performance leaves something to be desired.
Can we get an American white tail loading for the 6.5prc?
