  • Last weekend, Paul Barnard invited me to visit and film his amazing garden railway. This thing is huge and all done in 00 scale with the ability to run DC, DCC and live steam. Paul has his own channel here on UA-cam with loads of footage if you want to see more. Big thanks to Paul for a great afternoon.

I am still amazed that after every running session the trains are manually removed from the track as l was trying to observe if there was a tunnel going to safe dry storage. Such patience and dedication to our wonderful eccentric hobby.Thankyou sir.

Looks like a good day out in the garden.
Hoping to create something in my own garden over the next few years just not on such a grand scale as Daws Heath.
    Saying scale, A technical point.
    00 gauge - 4mm scale.
    Ho gauge - 3.5mm scale.

Thanks I think the problem with terminology is we tend to use scale and gauge interchangeably. Really it is HO scale and 00 scale as they both run on the same gauge track. Our American friends seem to actually have this sorted as they refer to each as scale (HO scale, N scale etc)

@thebritishrailroader it is the other way around mate.
The track is set by gauge so 00 is actually narrow gauge.
Scale refers to everything that is around the track which is where complications begin as 16.5mm gauge track can be used to represent various gauges depending upon the scale of everything set around it.
Ho, 00 and GN15 all utilise the same track to represent a different gauge and then there's 009 which is 4mm scale but runs on 9mm track.
It's easy to see how it can be confusing to anyone who is new to the hobby to understand what goes with what and why.
