Welcome to my channel, devoted to all things train related.
The main focus of the channel is the building of my current layout, Brooklyn Park - an HO scale shelf layout set in a fictionalised part of Brooklyn, New York, depicting the operations of the real life short line, The New York and Atlantic Railway with guest appearences by the Class 1 CSX.
However, I also like to go out and about and share my train rides, travels and time spent train-spotting with everyone through live action videos covering everything from the local railways of my home town to far flung systems around the world.
Add to this my 'shows you how' videos, model railway show reports, product spotlights and other miscellaneous railway related content, I hope that I have something for everyone.
Feel free to subscribe, hit that bell for notifications, click 'like' if you enjoy a video and post comments if you have any questions or if there is anything you want to share, I try to answer them all.
Cheers - Steve

Nice haul you made, Steve. I got socks (black and white only) and a locomotive, too. ho ho ho. Happy New Year!
Glad you got a loco as just socks would have been sad 😂. Happy New Year mate 👍

@GenxDiorama ah but you did get a nice book 😉
Thank you for this great video. Did you buy it for 100£ (in preorder)? I understand well? Where and when? On the Hornby website?
I pre-ordered it from Hornby as at the time, they were the only dealer. Given the price rises in the meantime I did get an amazing deal
Thank you for your answer. 🙂 You are very lucky, congratulations! 😊😊

Merry Christmas, Steve. We're hoping to have a rest after delivering all the custard in time for Christmas 😁🎅🎄⛄️👍
Hope you guys have a great time. Custard and mince pies 👍🎅
@@thebritishrailroader definitely, the mince pies are just coming out of the oven 🎅🎄⛄️😁👍
Nice look over the TT:120 66. The lighting functions are more logical with the free sound profile you can drop into the HM7000 decoders. I wouldn’t add any extra lube, everything delivered so far in TT:120 from Hornby is well lubricated! They all improve dramatically again with running in. 😁👍
@HighFell thanks for the advice. The more I am running it, the better it is getting. I do need a decent decoder, the one I have is a cheap Lais DCC one. Does all the functions etc but limited on the fine motor control. I am just used to using Soundtraxx lol
@ if you get the N18 HM 7000 one, you can drop the 00 class 66 sound profile in, you can set CV 144 to 1 (default is 0) that always smooths things out and you can also perform a motor calibration which is dead easy and really fine tunes the profiles to individual motors. The TT:120 specific sound profile that will have the functions already marked up etc is due to be released next week or so. Can’t wait for my 66 to arrive, it’s a DCC fitted as I managed to bag a pre order bargain a while back. Have fun with it, TT has some stunning models, not sure it’s very active in US though, where it actually started many decades ago. 🎄👍
@HighFell thanks for the advice. Not had a great start with the HM7000 decoders as the 21 pin one I had in a 00 model burnt out. Looking around this seems to be unusual, but still puts you off
@ Absolutely, but Hornby has great customer care and look after people. I have fitted N18 and 8pin to TT:120 locos and even non Hornby one, not had a single issue. I use the App to set profiles up and tweak CVs but run via my Dynamis as I prefer a tactile control for operating. Tried a few DCC systems recently, Piko Smart Control, GM Infinity and Z21, and I’m back on the Dynamis! It’s only downsides is it only goes to f20 and the IR link does need line of sight. HM DCC on App is the most intuitive system there is and I say that as a techno Luddite! If you have a smart device well worth having the app and playing about with it, it can do a lot.
@HighFell I use the NCE Powercab. It is the finest system I have ever used. You can also (as I have) set it up wireless using either its own tech or the Wifitrax system - worth doing. I do disagree about the HM7000 Bluetooth interface. I found it very clunky and not intuitive at all. But then I use a lot of Soundtraxx and their Bluetooth system, Blunami, knocks Hornby's efforts out of the water. The only advantage the Hornby system has is that you can load sound files, whereas Soundtraxx decoders come pre-loaded with half a dozen or so, therefore you have to choose the correct decoder for your loco type. They also have amazing motor and sound control. They do a UK diesel decoder with the class 66 on it, but not in next 18 unfortunately
Great unboxing and initial impressions. I've posted it to the Hornby TT120 forum for others who are interested. Nicely done! Looks a quality model.
@@mactrains thanks, I am pretty happy with it. I need a better decoder (just have a cheap Lais DCC at the moment) but it runs well
Very nice loco. Well detailed and finished. As you say, Steve tweaking the CVs will sort out the smooth running.
I have had some success but I am only using a cheap LaisDCC decoder so it has limited motor controls, but it is a lot smoother. I will ask Santa for something a bit more fancy for Christmas lol. Have a great one and see you again soon
@thebritishrailroader I've got the AE Models decoders in mine, only to get them running. They are good decoders. Happy Christmas & and all the best for new year!

@@danielbonham9336 Happy Christmas mate, have fun and take care too
Nice, the sweater also! There are alleays minor downsides to any layout, but I think yours is really great for that space. Last two weeks I had had a small burn-out myself. All the woodworking and big projects were a bit in the way so I switched to operating and modeling to fire the engine again. Making videos was getting more important than enjoying myself with my layout and trains. And that was not what I intended when I started this project. Coming weeks I will tweak my concept to get out of it what I want and not what I think my subscribers want to see. Do you have an operating plan for your space? It helps me a lot to have a story and a plan for that, so I can model things following the operational logics of it. Merry Christmas Steve, get yourself a present by finishing the diner you british Boomer! 😂
@GenxDiorama Hi Sebas, Merry Christmas mate. I know what you mean and I am changing the way I make videos by planning and filming ahead where I can. I am also going to refocus the channel a little in the new year with a bit more emphasis on tutorials and reviews as they seem to do well. I do have a back story to Brooklyn Park and a loose operational plan where I can run sessions where I switch different numbers of industries or even none at all (MOW moves by the LIRR). Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year
I tried doing tutorials but definetely not my favourite part doing. Sometimes I don’t even know what I’m doing myself and just going with the flow and tend to forget getting the instructions in the video haha. I like seeing them tho’! Keep up the good work and enjoy these days!
G'day Steve, Another great video to finish the year off. It is also great to see you talk about what may be coming in the future. Like you, I have not done a layout updatet due to too many other distractions. As for burn out, we all go through that. Merry Christmas to you and Mrs British Railroader. 🎄 All the best for 2025 from down under ! 🙃🌏 Cheers, Gary.
@Gaz3801 cheers mate and Happy Christmas to you and yours, I hope it isn't too hot for you 😉😁

@@thebritishrailroader Very rarely do we eat turkey down under, it's Christmas ham (baked), seafood and salads, followed by Christmas pudding ! Yummo. 😋
Always fun to visit Brooklyn Park! Merry Christmas! I understand about layout burnout and anxiety. There have been occasions where I start thinking about all the things I still need to do on the layout and feel overwhelmed. Taking a break helps me focus again. “Certainly a reminder that my switching layout is big enough!”😊

Great update Steve, and some very interesting thoughts on how we develop from one layout to the next. Great update, Steve, and it's interesting to hear your thoughts on possibly your next layout. You're right. There are always lessons to be learned for future reference and improvements. I'm trying to improve things on my next layout, which will be a 009-layout. It's still at the early stages at the moment. There's the baseboard built and lots of mocking up the scenery, very similar to what Dylan has done. The trouble is that it's been in the same stage for months. It was photographed in this stage several months ago for a bookazine, which came out a couple of weeks ago or so. It has reminded me of the fact that I've done nothing to it, so I'm determined to crack on with it in the New Year. Have a great Christmas...cheers, James 🎅 🙂

Hi Steve, My local network! Hope you got to travel on a 507 while you were up here? Sadly now out of service, with only two left, one of which is to be preserved. What do you think if the constant bombardment with so called “safety” announcements?! Regulars just ignore them now so they seem to have the reverse effect! The new 777 units have their pluses and minuses. Rapid acceleration / overly hard seats, light and airy / irregular floor height, etc. “See it, say it, sorted”. Great idea but overly repetitive..! I note European railways don’t have this many announcements. The joys of living in what has become “Nanny State” Britain, eh?! Keep up the good work on your modelling. Best wishes from Wirral.
@darrenhillman8396 hi mate. Sadly I never made it up to you to ride the 508s, this was my first trip to your great city.
