Breath of the Wild has to be the hardest experience for him He must've already felt guilty and distraught to lose the champions, the king, and several civilians But when he woke up and started to remember everything, he had to see a ghost of the world he loved, and he found out the hardships Zelda was experiencing
Honestly, Majora's Mask is just one ginormous nightmare for Link. Not only is he forced into a time loop, but everything he puts on one of the transformation masks, he's subjected to the anguish that the spirit of the mask experienced before they died, which is why Link screams whenever he puts the masks on. And he has to put on those masks a lot. Not to mention that the fierce deity's mask, whilst also containing the potential to corrupt him, contains the memories of everyone in termina, so that probably doesn't go over well for him.
Link had to undo all the evil that Majora did in the Land of Termina as Majors used The Skull Kid memories of all the people he knew to unleash chaos and destruction.. what a very dark game Majora Mask is
@@JosephShemelewski I do feel Link was still alive when he got turned into a Deku, just his experience being a Deku still lives on inside his Deku mask 🎭
You would think losing an arm would rank a bit higher. Also, having a sister kidnapped is bad, but to actually watch your uncle die has got to be up there as well ( à la A Link to the Past).
It isn't ranked, I just opened on TotK because it's the newest game. I thought about Link's uncle, but he's shown to be alive in the ending cutscene of the game, or else he would've made it on.
Imagine waking up in a random sci-fi like cave hearing a random voice tell you to go on a very dangerous and challenging quest when you have no recollection of who you are or the continent your at. Not only this but you relive the painfull memories of 100 years ago where you were emotionless due to an heavy burden that your finally free from now but at the cost of your father, sister, and freinds death that you recall about while your lover is trapped in a monsters stomach you have to kill. Wild Link had it the roughest imo, oot link close second. And don't get me started on totk. Bro got the Guts treatment.
Here's the worst. In the original game. They started him out with no weapon whatsoever. So if a player didn't know they had to go into the cave, they're screwed.
I would personally put losing a limb higher in the list than number 10, especially since it was basically eaten away by gloom first before being amputated. If you think about it, that actually means the remains of his arm are probably up there somewhere on the Great Sky Island, which is objectively horrifying. 😬 That's not even touching on the psychological toll it would take on ANYBODY having a dominant limb amputated, and then add to it the dissonance that would happen every time he'd look down and see someone else's very alien looking appendage on him instead of his own? It would be incredibly painful both physically and mentally/emotionally.
More painful, even, than for the average person. Link is a *warrior* and his sword arm is his one great asset and equalizer. It's like a track star losing use of their legs or an actor going mute from laryngeal cancer.
How about what became of the Link from Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask? Because he was never recognized as a hero in the Child Timeline, he never got to pass on what he knew to any successors, so he became a restless spirit (the Hero's Shade) who wondered Hyrule waiting for someone he could train to be the next hero, which he was finally able to do with the Link from Twilight Princess, who is his descendant, before he was finally able to find peace.
@@ArcticGorilla47 That's not a scar, that arm is gangrenous, and if not amputated it will lead to death. Also, Link is right-handed in this game, so that is his dominant arm as well. I can understand not putting it over Ocarina of Time, but at least over a stupid hallucinogenic dream yes.
@@Ceezmemefn08 You're seriously going to downplay losing a limb just because it was replaced? Okay. lol He still has to deal with the psychological toll of having a dominant limb amputated and replaced by one that's obviously not his own. The dissonance of looking down and seeing someone else's appendage on you would be incredibly messed up.
Your part about Link's "childhood" in OoT is only partly right. He got to become a child again at the end, but not before the experience of suddenly becoming an adult without his consent meant he was forced to quickly mature if he was to be able to interact with npcs etc. Also some of 'em acted a bit.. suggestive when talking with him. Must've been hard for him to find out what they meant... You're also forgetting that time Link was extorted into a marriage with Ruto. He was a KID.
The worst thing has got to be coming back to Hyrule after saving termina in Majora's mask. Link has saved the world TWICE, but no one remembers him as a hero, and the only ones who knew him as a hero are basically gone for good.
At least in the wolf form and (to a lesser extent) deku scrub form Link is able to defend himself. When he gets turned into a rabbit? No such luck. Even worse, everything in his basic vicinity wants to eat him.
Hey, I don't even think OoT Link had a place to go even after Majora's Mask. Zelda claimed that he was go back to his original time. However, after what Link learned in the other timeline, how could he even go back there? It does explain his waywardness in the next game.
I mean, being put in a coma only to realize you lost everybody has got to suck. I also think losing an arm has got to be painful. I mean you put the transformations high and those seemed painful, but losing an arm is last place. Lolol idk that should be higher imo
Definitely. You can tell that it was incredibly painful, and Rauru saying he "had to replace it" is just a nicer way of saying it had to be amputated because it had been eaten away by gloom to the point of not being salvageable. If you think about it, the remains of his arm are probably up there somewhere on the Great Sky Island, which is objectively horrifying. The fact that it's number 10 is ridiculous, imo.
Seeing this reminds me of 1 idea I had for the next zelda game: Link is sent into a future where Ganondorf has already won, so he has to live as an outlaw & find a way back to the past. Ergo it'd be similar to GTA & samurai jack. But the problem is that was kind of already done in Oot & Botw. I did have another idea that the next game could take place in space though, which I feel they strongly hinted at in totk. Another option I can see them doing is having the next game be the story of the 8th heroine. There's a lot more going on there, as we saw in that side quest
Fun fact the Hero of Time is actually the guy who teaches you sword techniques in Twilight Princess. So that means that the Oot Link has went to war, died, and then became a stalfos forever alive/dead.
Something curious, the cinematic of the deku scrub transformation is based of a nightmare the director had once, where a deku scrub didn't stop chasing him no matter how far and fast he ran.
Another experience to add to the Hero of Time. After he returned to Hyrule he eventually became a Stalfo and had to remain in the world of the living for potentially 200 years after he died before he was finally able to move on. He really is the most tragic of all the heroes of Hyrule.
I have a list for every incarnation of Link: The Legend of Zelda & The Adventure of Link, Hunted for a blood sacrifice A Link to the Past & Link’s Awakening, His uncle dies, he watches Zelda being sacrificed, trapped in a dream world, then lost at sea Ocarina of Time & Majora’s Mask, Growing up too fast, separated from Navi, turned into a Deku Scrub, the time loop ordeal, then unable to pass on his legacy to his children. Oracle of Seasons & Ages, getting crushed on by a magic tree Four Swords, Fighting with himself over rupees The Wind Waker & Phantom Hourglass, Watching his sister getting kidnapped, then Tetra gets turned to stone. Four Swords Adventures, Freeing Tingle The Minish Cap, Failed to protect Zelda from being turned to stone by Vaati. Twilight Princess, Ilia is kidnapped, he is turned into a wolf, imprisoned, nearly dies several times, Ilia loses her memory, Midna leaves and severs the connection between her world and Hyrule forever. Spirit Tracks, Getting knocked out trying to save Zelda Skyward Sword, Fails to save Zelda from Ghirahim’s tornado, watches her seal herself inside a crystal for thousands of years, and Zelda almost dies thanks to Ghirahim’s ritual to resurrect Demise. A Link Between Worlds & Tri Force Heroes, getting turned into a painting
Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom Has heavy burden forced upon him by claiming the Master Sword at s young age, most of his friends and family are killed in the Great Calamity, almost dies defending Zelda after Calamity Ganon ravages Hyrule, loses his memory, then he loses his arm, the Master Sword, and Zelda thanks to Ganondorf, and the Demon King and Yiga Clan deceive him with Zelda imposters, and his heart is broken after witnessing the final Dragon Tear memory.
Thank you for not saying dying in Majora's Mask in reference to the infamous "Link is dead theory" which was debunked before it was made. But nice list, really adds to making Link a tragic hero as part of his character. I want to add is l Witnessing his uncle die in front of him and being framed for Zelda's kidnapping in A Link to the Past. Losing his companions (Navi, Daphnes, Midna, Ezlo, Linebeck/Ciela, Fi and the champions) Dying with regret, (His Ocarina of Time adventure being erased leading to not being honored in that timeline, and becoming the hero shade not passing his sword skills until his descendant).
In The Minish Cap, Link's girlfriend Zelda was petrified by Vaati. That's rough, if you look at how much he loves her. Also, in A Link Between Worlds, Yuga turned him into a painting after their first toe-to-toe fight. Of course he was rescued by the bracelet, but Imagine if he wasn't! Ouch!
Short Correction: Demise didnt force him into rebirth, rebirth is a common thing in Zelda Because modern Zelda Lore is a lot inspired by Buddhism. Meaning Link and Zelda would have still been reborn still, but what Demise did is basically sending (his) Demons which are taking his place to haunt them forever. And besides it wouldnt make much sense that Demise would make the one that killed him reappear so that his Successors could be killed by that one as well.
My personal no.1 is in majoras mask, where the fierce deity mask posseses him Does it make the majora fight a joke? Yes! Does it doom link to be an eternal vessel for a god outside of his controll, cursed to always be a husk? Absolutely!
Another transformation was in ALttP where he becomes a bunny on entering the Dark World. Sure it doesn't seem overly traumatic but being suddenly changed and being unable to protect yourself in a terrifying new world filled with strong monsters has to be scary.
I know that Demise is the one who started this curse from the very beginning and all, but when is said "I will rise again" is really concerning, I mean I know Ganondorf embodies his anger and hatred, but it makes me wonder if he'll actually one day return in a future Zelda game.
Imagine being the hottest and bravest hero of all time, going through all these bull** to save his beloved Princess and he doesn't even have the game named after him. The poor guy
I didn't realize Link got his arm back in the end. Crashing into a dream? Is that what happened? In the original Wind Waker if you pause the footage right before Aryll gets plucked away by the giant bird she makes this face "HOLY SH1T °□°!". I didn't see this in the remake. Link apparently experiences great pain when he transforms. 4:52 AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! Zelda 2 is too damn hard. I have a much easier time dealing with the Yiga and I can always run away if I can't. 5:52 Ha ha ha ha ha! Link does get his childhood back. Speedrunners of Majora's Mask can get through the game in only two time loops.
Neither Link nor Zelda were ever forced into rebirth. So many people get this wrong, but Zelda and Link are NOT reincarnations of previous Links and Zeldas. All the Links and Zeldas in other games are the descendants of the OG Link and Zelda, not their reincarnations; this was confirmed by the game makers. Demise cursed Link and Zelda's bloodline, he even says "Those LIKE you, with the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero" (spirit does not necessarily mean soul). The only one who keeps reincarnating is Ganondorf because he is Demise's curse, the manifestation of Demise's hatred, who arises whenever to plague OG Link and Zelda's descendants (it’s become tradition to name the female descendants of Zelda to be named Zelda and the male descendants of Link to be named Link so there will always be an “age of Zelda” and a Link to support her). Heck, the Link in Twilight Princess even meets the spirit of the Link from OOT/MM (the Hero's Shade), who is his confirmed ancestor, something he couldn't do if he was that Link's reincarnation.
Zelda is bloodline but Link is reincarnated, otherwise it’d be incest, they had to have gotten together at some point a few times. Hero’s shade and TP link are special in that they are direct descendants (thats why people speculate he married Malon after returning to Hyrule).
Breath of the Wild was definitely the worst thing he went through. Nearly dying after your best friends and allies are murdered, then getting put in a coma and losing your memory only to wake up 100 years later in a desolate and ruined Hyrule knowing nothing about what happened...
Honoring you all Samus: I'm destined to destroy planets and befriend dangerous and rare, even unique creatures. Mario: I'm destined to save Peach and transform in various forms eating strange vegetables and plants. Belmonts: Destined to fight Dracula over the generations. Link: I'm destined to live my life...
Tears of the Kingdom implies what Link may have PTSD from the possessed Guardians as he absolutely panics when the recycled Guardian legs start grabbing him in order to do their thing the first time he goes to use a Skyview Tower. So Link having trauma from the events of BoTW is possibly even canon.
I feel that one of the worst things to happen to Link is losing his memories over the course of BotW. I say this because even though Zelda contacted Link, in order to wake him up, that one wrong individual coming across him, no sooner than Link walking out of that cave would have easily changed a lot. And that's not to forget that he literally forgot anyone and everyone close to him. Champions included.
While Zelda from Ocarina of Time did what thought was the right thing by sending the Hero of Time back to relive his childhood, why she should’ve known that you can’t changed the past to fix your mistakes. Even if it wasn’t entirely Zelda’s fault of what happened 7 years ago. Learning our past mistakes is what we grow as a better person. And we would’ve seen Link x Zelda lived happily together like many of us fans hoped. Sadly this not how it happened in both the game and in the manga adaptation.
Seems to be up to interpretation though. He may have actually died, he may not have. By the way, there's actually a theory that Link DID die and that's why he not only lost his memories, but took 100 years to resurrect (due to 100 years being the time it took for the Spirit of the Hero to reincarnate).
I don’t think Link’s (The Hero of Time) life was all bad. According to “Majora’s Mask”, a few months had passed after the events of “Ocarina of Time” and I like to believe Link got to spend a few months hanging out with Princess Zelda at her castle while living with Malon and Talon at Lon Lon Ranch learning how to live a more peaceful existence as a farmer.
I feel like the time loop is worse than failing to protect Hyrule. Canonicaly, Link could have relived those 3 days for millennia before figuring out how to save Termina and get back home
There’s a theory out there saying Zelda’s massive energy blast actually killed Link. And the Shrine of Resurrection didn’t heal him, but brought him back from death.
So the clip thumbnail shows link transforming into the fierce deity, but you completely skip the canonically AGONIZING transformations in Majora's mask?
I'd say that the worst thing that happened to link was the curse in skyward sword, because without it, all the other bad things that happened to him probably wouldn't have
I think the worst thing that has happened to link is losing his arm to the gloom in TOTK because it looked like it really hurt and it would have killed him if Rauru didn't save him
Trust me link isn’t the only main character that has some pretty horrible things happen to him. (Could be a her if the main character is a girl.) trust me… but I think dying has got to be the worst. (I mean seriously! That’s horrible!) but the trauma of some of these things are also horrible… (the sister getting kidnapped one made link look like he was getting ready to commit süįçīdë… that’s pretty darn bad…)
There’s three timelines, one is the one that link gets sent back to by Zelda, the second being the timeline Zelda was currently in, and the third being a what if ganondorf killed link
@@jammiedonut6934They need to make a proper ending for his failure in OOT. Like you get a game over in AOL. They should show an ending every time you get a game over in OOT.
I can understand the timeline splitting into 2 but not 3. The third was just bs Nintendo made up years after the fact due to fan pressure but the first two splits make sense as they show both timelines at the end of OOT.

Demise didnt force him into rebirth, rebirth is a common thing in Zelda Because modern Zelda Lore is a lot inspired by Buddhism.
Meaning Link and Zelda would have still been reborn still, but what Demise did is basically sending (his) Demons which are taking his place to haunt them forever.
And besides it wouldnt make much sense that Demise would make the one that killed him reappear so that his Successors could be killed by that one as well.
My personal no.1 is in majoras mask, where the fierce deity mask posseses him
Does it make the majora fight a joke? Yes!
Does it doom link to be an eternal vessel for a god outside of his controll, cursed to always be a husk? Absolutely!
Link has gone through even worse when he became the Legendary Doomslayer. Like when the Demons killed his pet bunny.
Another transformation was in ALttP where he becomes a bunny on entering the Dark World. Sure it doesn't seem overly traumatic but being suddenly changed and being unable to protect yourself in a terrifying new world filled with strong monsters has to be scary.
8:16 I did not think that Link and Michael Jackson had anything more than their voices and long hair
I know that Demise is the one who started this curse from the very beginning and all, but when is said "I will rise again" is really concerning, I mean I know Ganondorf embodies his anger and hatred, but it makes me wonder if he'll actually one day return in a future Zelda game.
I hope demise somday zelda game return
4:47 I have never seen him in so much pain before 😅
Turned back into a child, his only friend (Navi) leaving him, leaves hyrule to find that friend & dies in the process.. that’s messed up
I'd say loosing his childhood. I mean... you can recover everything else but time.
Worst thing that happened to him was the great fairy cutscenes. Or getting hit by Kazuya's Heaven's door.
Imagine being the hottest and bravest hero of all time, going through all these bull** to save his beloved Princess and he doesn't even have the game named after him. The poor guy
"Link's Crossbow Training".
zelda was quite literally my childhood. it was all i had
Demise came out with the ultimate "you didn't win.".
Poor Link,he is always so traumatised…😢
Which version of Link? They are not all the same.
Breath of the Wild was definitely the worst thing he went through. Nearly dying after your best friends and allies are murdered, then getting put in a coma and losing your memory only to wake up 100 years later in a desolate and ruined Hyrule knowing nothing about what happened...
Honoring you all
Samus: I'm destined to destroy planets and befriend dangerous and rare, even unique creatures.
Mario: I'm destined to save Peach and transform in various forms eating strange vegetables and plants.
Belmonts: Destined to fight Dracula over the generations.
Link: I'm destined to live my life...
What kinda mental trauma would link have from each game
And probably more trauma before each game's events if Link continuously refuses to speak in any of them
Tears of the Kingdom implies what Link may have PTSD from the possessed Guardians as he absolutely panics when the recycled Guardian legs start grabbing him in order to do their thing the first time he goes to use a Skyview Tower.
Technically link does die in botw, but he’s revived by shrine of resurrection
Seems to be up to interpretation though. He may have actually died, he may not have.
By the way, there's actually a theory that Link DID die and that's why he not only lost his memories, but took 100 years to resurrect (due to 100 years being the time it took for the Spirit of the Hero to reincarnate).
An honorable mention from A Link to the Past would be Link becoming Hyrule’s most wanted man for the whole game following the initial sequence.
Honestly the Demise curse should be #1 because it is the reason for everything else on this list and everything everywhere in this series.
Link is awesome
The worst thing to happen to link was the 'price' of getting his clothes fully enhanced in BOTW
I think the worst thing that happen to Link is that he heals the whole Termina of it's sorrows but he lives with regret in Twilight Princess.
There’s a theory out there saying Zelda’s massive energy blast actually killed Link. And the Shrine of Resurrection didn’t heal him, but brought him back from death.
Hero of Time is on this list a few times. Poor guy.
So the clip thumbnail shows link transforming into the fierce deity, but you completely skip the canonically AGONIZING transformations in Majora's mask?
I got the 500th like nice job on the vid keep up on the good work.Thank you.
I'd say that the worst thing that happened to link was the curse in skyward sword, because without it, all the other bad things that happened to him probably wouldn't have
I always think of Fi. She's in the Master Sword though all of this.
How about probably never knowing anything about his parents from any of his incarnations.
Nintendo taking away his Nintendo Switch shirt
There's a reason why link doesn't speak, he's crying on the inside.
The worst thing to happen to Link is Fi telling him his controller battery is low. What does that even mean to him?
Also The hero of time link dying at war, before he could see his kids grow up
I think the worst thing that has happened to link is losing his arm to the gloom in TOTK because it looked like it really hurt and it would have killed him if Rauru didn't save him
Who else wants that fucked version of the champion’s leathers from the beginning of the game
11:05 the champions are possessed by the blights
Okay actually, Zelda is Madoka Kaname and Link is Homura Akemi.
I feel that transformation in link to the past is worse. Helpless bunny? Twilight link at least has heart of wolf instead of bunny
though he's been through complete hell, Link always managed to get himself out of a dangerous situation and fight till the very end.
Breath of the wild and tears kingdom Link a suffer the most.
What's the worst thing that happened to link is that none of the responsibility, be the hero is something he never asked for
Yeah, could you imagine one game where Link refuses to step up to be a hero and someone else has to do it?
With all the hell he’s dealt with let’s be grateful he doesn’t fall to darkness
Just going to throw it out there...
Majora's Mask did a better job using the Ocarina of Time to travel through time than the one in Ocarina of Time.
The worst thing was to generation after generation being friendzoned by Zelda! (Thankfully Tears of the Kingdom corrects it!)
What about "Skyward Sword"?
With transformations you forgot A Link to the Past in which Link entering the Dark World turns into a bunny
I feel like the worst thing is people thinking his name is Zelda 😂
Imagine not talking about child Dead Hand encounter ☠️ link didn't deserve that lol
Wrong there is two times link is canonically been killed because in Twilight princess you can meet the hero of Time as a deceased skeleton
I’ll never understand how the timeline splits in OOT. The ending shows what happens so how and why can it split?
There’s three timelines, one is the one that link gets sent back to by Zelda, the second being the timeline Zelda was currently in, and the third being a what if ganondorf killed link
I saw a article that says Nintendo just wanna Sort out the series because there is too much games that has been made
@@jammiedonut6934They need to make a proper ending for his failure in OOT.
The worst thing that happened to link is the flower girl in botw😅
