As a lifelong cat owner, it is NOT normal to buy a new litter box every month. To me, that just sounds like she doesn’t clean it for an entire month, and chooses to throw the whole thing out instead of cleaning it. Which is disgusting, and totally “ALR coded” 🙄

@@lilgorgo I've said this already but I have 4 plastic ones for 2 cats and alternate 2 daily. I swish hot water around them then fill them with an inch of hot water and a tiny dash of disinfectant and soak them for a couple of hours. It kills bacteria and still keeps enough of their scent. I haven't replaced them for a couple of years. I reckon she buys new ones to save having to clean them properly or just said it because she heard someone else say it.

OMG, those poor cats!!! I scoop my cat's litter several times a day (whenever he uses it), dump old litter, wash the box, put in new litter once a week. I had my last litter box for FIVE YEARS and just replaced it. She must be letting it fill up and then tossing it rather than have to bend over to actually clean it 🤢

I had one cat and currently have my second. I have had two litter boxes in 13 years. I changed it because my first cat had respiratory issues that wound up leading to his demise and I thought the new litter box would be better in terms of not creating so much dust, so the new cat uses that one because it was still good .
Throwing out your litter boxes every 2 month (if they're not disposable) is wild and tells me she doesn't actually clean them. I wouldn't be surprised if she's just throwing them out when she can't handle it anymore because if you're "deep cleaning", you're not gonna need to throw them out. Wasteful-Lynn over here 😅
I have two cats, scoop every day or every other day depending on their usage. I only need to fully dump the litter and “deep clean” every few months or so. And they’ve only gotten new litter boxes twice, once when we moved and one of the boxes broke and once when the older kitty was having trouble with the jump-in litter box they had for a while. They’ll be keeping their current ones until they break or are no longer usable for whatever reason.
Edit: my point is, there’s no reason to do all she’s doing unless she’s not scooping regularly!! Just scoop and top off the litter regularly and it lasts and stays clean for a long time!

The scent of a litter box is VERY important to a cat - getting new ones or even deep cleaning litter boxes destroys the hard work, a cat puts in, to getting it to smell like their territory.
Yeah these people washing their litter boxes with soap are almost as wild and Amber buying a brand new one. Dump the dirty litter and replace it with fresh. That's it.

@@ky9933lol no idea who misinformed you.. but I’ve been working in the veterinary field for 14 years and I can assure you, using a mild dish soap to clean a litter box is absolutely fine when necessary. Not harmful to the cat or toxic. Cleaners like Lysol or others can be in fact very dangerous, though. Never had a cat come in because an owner washed their litter box with soap and somehow hurt their pet😂 If you’re cat is finicky then you can try to scoop as soon as they use it and try to deep clean it once a month- deep clean to a minimum to preserve their scent if you insist on your cat being particular. Please educate yourself before spewing ignorance on the internet, and please be a responsible pet owner and keep their area clean 🧼 You don’t want to cause more problems or infections by being dirty. If you want to be a slob, go for it. You shouldn’t do that to you’re pet, though. They deserve the best❤ Check in with your vet at least so they can help educate you. Or a simple google search could help as well🤷🏻♀️ if vet care is out of reach.
Definitely use soap! Neutral if possible. I'm pretty sure cats prefer it smelling clean, their scent is in there anyway.

My cat is 14. She has had 2 boxes over the course of her life and I only got the second one because it had a top to control litter throw, not because anything was wrong with the old one. They last for years when cleaned.
My cat is 20 and has had three, none being replaced due to damage or grossness but just due to different size needs.

I was just researching them (honestly bc of all the litter talk in this comment section haha) and there’s another one that has good reviews called catlink. It’s a little bit cheaper per unit than the litter robot. Still crazy expensive tho but I was considering it
@haleyhamilton6884 it has been definitely worth the investment for us. I found one of the knock-offs on Amazon for around $300 and it has made me and the beans so happy lol I have heard people say that some cats are uncomfortable using it due to the sound so that would be something to keep in mind!
What's the name of your litter robot? When I adopted three cats at once, I made deep research and read opinions about all litter boxes availabe in Poland and my conclusion was there's no self-cleaning litter box which really works.
@melomankapl8756 the brand is CleanPetHome. I was skeptical at first but bought it based on the Amazon reviews and a friend's recommendation. I'm not sure if it is available where you are but I genuinely recommend it if your cats are okay with noises.

It’d be more work for her imo. I have one and you need to take it apart when you deep clean it which can be a pain. The top can also get fairly gross especially if you have a cat with elevator butt (like mine unfortunately 😒). Dog owner here and I can assume that getting a new litter box every month might even be stressful for a cat. It takes my dog forever to find a spot to poop on “foreign grass” and I can imagine cats operate similarly.
