I’ve done the turning off and on. Didn’t actually do much, but what does work for me, and I’ve tested it, is lowering my ad budget until about 2 pm central. Once it’s gone before then, it’s gone. I then raise the amount back to my normal amount for the rest of the day. It’s an obvious change for me.
@ I usually just increase gradually based on how busy I want to be/what I have going on generally in life. Right now I raised it to $110/day. I lowered it Friday am to $30, then around 3 pm I increased it to $50 (just playing to see), then about 4ish I raised it to the $115. I will keep it there today (Saturday), and may even add more if it gets busy.
@ ❤️. It was not actually intentional for me at the beginning. I was simply running out of budget early, and then noticed when I increased my budget later in the day, sales would increase drastically.
I turn mine on until I get my first sale of the day, then I turn off. It seems to work to get the ball rolling. Once I make 1 sale, I think etsy puts my items in front of more people, even without the ads, because when I make one sale I get several more after. I have done this nearly every day for the last 2 weeks and it seems to be working. I tried days with no ads and I got nothing until 3pm. I tried letting the ads run all day at $100.00 budget. It didn't increase my sales at all, versus just turning them on until I get 1 sale.
When you mentioned this before is when I started to try it. I turn off ads when I get up in the morning and then I turned back on around 5 or 6 Central time. It has worked so well for me I've cut ads off the last couple of days because I'm getting behind on orders. Even without ads this morning I woke up to 4 sales. As of Dec 6th I've got 55 orders and my revenue is up 71% over last year. I think when the sales started coming in Etsy has moved my items to the top of searches.
I’m playing around with my ads in this exact way right now! Etsy burns through my ads and by evening I’m out, but evening and night is when we get big pops of orders, but I suspect that only happens *if* the ads haven’t already been used earlier in the day.
I have my ad spend set to $1000 a day and I NEVER get anywhere close to that. So, I don't have the issue of running out of ad spend daily...not sure if this would have a positive effect for me?
When you turn them on at 5pm, is it 5pm your time zone or 5pm at all time zones? should that be taken into consideration as I'm in the pacific time zone and eastern time is 2pm in my time zone.
For two weeks, I turned them off because we were on vacation but I do not close my shop. I had so many orders so it’s pretty unbelievable so then I get home. Turn them back on and got an order here and there so now I’ve dropped my price down to a very low budget. My stuff still shows up on the front page though because it sells all the time I don’t think I need ads and all.
But there's also the issue with the time differences. If we want to turn ads on when people are off work and shop, then it might be convenient to turn ads on at 3pm West Coast time (5pm east coast).
I noticed months ago that I got the vast majority of messages from new customers in the evening than any other time of day. I assumed that's when they were showing my ads. It never occured to me to turn them off during the earlier part of the day. I just didn't think that would work.
I was under the impression when you turn on Adds it takes sometime to kick in at Etsy and see results. I turn off my adds in the weekend because it is always very slow. I hardly sell items on the weekends. I could never figure out the reason why the weekends are so slow.
You started doing this in Novenber, I watched the show where you began and where going to do it for 7 days. I started this with you and I am still running it. I think I am having more sales...
I have mine at $1000 a day..have for a long time. Not even a 1/3 of my listings even get shown? idk what I'm doing wrong, I do my keywords and everything I have learned but still get no views..April
My budget was getting eaten up in Europe because they are on from midnight ET. With GPSR, I will stop shipping to the EU. I asked Etsy yesterday if my ads will stop being shown in the EU once I remove those countries. They told me yes, but I am not convinced. Tried turning on and off for 2 weeks. Didn’t notice a difference
Would this matter if my ad spend is NO WHERE near reaching my budget? I have my budget set at $5 and it only spends ~$1 a day for about 15 listings......NO SALES:(
So, I started this 2 days ago. I have my ads set at the highest for me at $200 per day, but guess what happened just now turning them back on just now? Etsy lowered my amount allowed down to $100 per day. Geez, what do you guys think about that?
I noticed early on that no matter what budget I set it would be all spent by noon or 1pm at the latest So I started turning them in late afternoon and turning them off at 11pm or midnite. Figured this out years ago. Just assumed this was a common sense approach. Reality is that most of the population are "night" people. Most online buying happens at night. Been on ebay over 20 years and over 90% of all purchases occur after 6pm EST. Been that way since the beginning. I

I was going to try this, but Etsy is burning through my budget so fast that it didn't really matter if I turned them on and off. One of my listings is being charged $1 or more per click so with a $5.50 daily budget it's gone in about 6-7 clicks.
@ I did today. I’ve had a few listings that have been over $1 a click. One that was $2 for one click so my $5.50 budget doesn’t last very long. It’s like they take 3-4 of my listings and all the budget goes to them while my other listings get nothing. Sometimes the ads start out profitable, but then my ROI starts declining.
I sell mostly religious print on demand. Academic studies show most online audience is around noon time USA. But my problem is too many clicks without sales at that time. Most of my sales are later in the day. About a third of my sales are Europe and Australia. Also I am concerned if off and on daily idea affect the way Etsy says the ads adjust over time? Finally which option for ads do you take? Quick sales vs broad exposure?
I wonder what kind of effect does the objective have to do with the algorithm being tweaked to achieve the objective. Recently I just changed mine from "drive orders short term" to "take my sale up a notch" and my sale had reduced from 4 to 1. Not sure whether it's related to this or because it's the tail end of the holiday shopping.
They don't like giving up control. It's that simple. They just want you to be good little sellers, turn on ads, and then be happy and accept what traffic they allow you to have for the day. It's CPC based advertising. Etsy incentive to give anyone other than the top stores good traffic is really really low, maybe a few sales here and their to keep you trying, but as long as your listing get a clicks with the garbage traffic they send, Etsy still makes money. They care very little after that point in my opinion. I have a new store. I've had a few sales and I can 100% say they send garbage traffic most of the time. When I get clicks for .30 to .60 but no sales I know I'm getting garbage/bot traffic, but when my cpc is 1.00 to 1.60 ill get a few sales. It's blatently obvious that they mainpulate and throttle traffic. In my opinion the majority of Etsy stores that are doing really really well are driving traffic from an outside source. There is no way they make that much just through organic optimization and Etsy ads.

I’m going to do this as well out of sheer curiosity. I sell supplies and it’s my slow time of year but it will be interesting to see another type of shop data.

Is there no way to control ads with automation tools?
Not currently
Leaving them on only makes Etsy rich!
