This is not fair Etsy suspend an account just for unpaid "7$". I think this is a red flag for all sellers on Etsy ! it's time to leave this bad platform forever 😔
its one of the first lessons I learnt when i looked into droppshipping, dont be only on 1 platform coz they casn lock you out, start on a platform, then branch out and open your own controlled site. Its not just Etsy, any of them can do this. So best to have your own site you own once you see success on one of these platforms and drive your traffic there so if you get shut down anywhere, you are still running on your own site.
@@Ayman-sk4zd ETSY SCAMS PEOPLE OUT OF THE $15. I opened the store 2 weeks ago, PAID $15, posted one item with my own design a tote bag with Printify, after the $15hit their bank account, my store got suspended with no email nor notification. Sent them an appeal, they banned the store after my appeal, still no explanation. Asked for my $15 back... Crickets!!! Watched all videos about why my store might have been suspended and banned. I am doing a charge back on the $15, I am not crying for the money, but I wont allow to be scammed by a mogul that has billions. 1. I told them I travel and I wont always have the same IP- No, they want you to ALAWAYS use the same IP (Not acceptable) 2. The design - I created (No brand name just a silly text, checked with the trademark website, I was in the clear). 3. Shady for no email to notify me nor explanations WHY your store was suspended so you could fix it. (Not acceptable) 4. They will NEVER REFUND THE $15 (Not acceptable) I OPENED MY OWN E-STORE as I am a web designer, and WILL NEVER EVER USE ETSY AGAIN!!!!!
love Etsy...no hate whatsoever... however, I would very much like to see Josh Silverman and his managements to open their own Etsy shop with a pseudonym name and try it themselves to be a seller like us for a month or three, without any Etsy staff knowing and see what's the official messy problems that the now sellers or trainers are facing. Sorry the scammers issues still doesnt seem to decrease and now scammers are so creative to come up with QR codes to scam sellers. Etsy needs to do better
I’m not sure why you’re surprised about this. Things Etsy is doing or not doing now have no logic. The fact that there is no viable, tangible, caring support for its sellers- this alone should make people run.
@@brandcreatorsnot only a live support line would do, they need to know all Etsy rules to the t. Etsy is famous for outsourcing the little number of humans that do “customer support” and they are not trained correctly.
@@brandcreatorsin all honesty a company that has 8 BILLION dollars AND offer no support for their sellers Etsy’s number one customer is the seller because without the sellers there is no products which is no customers - it’s appalling this company makes billions and offers no support About the same as UA-cam correct? After all humans are honestly a necessity when dealing with issues where you have to think out of the box and resolve issues - seems the company would be worth much more in the end
Etsy needs to be under a federal and state review. How is there zero advocacy and lobbying?? Etsy's C-Suite awards themselves insane stock options only for them to sell shares every quarter or year (most executives who believe in their company HOLD their shares). Says a lot.
Welcome to AI. It just does as it is told. The only sense that it has it what a programmer gives it. Who owns Etsy? Somehow get this glitch in their approach to a real human at the top of the company. Good video!
The major lesson for me in this is NEVER rely on one platform - that way if you are suspended, you have an income while fighting the problem. Many of the successful people I know sell on several platforms & some in antique malls.
@@SeedyJohnson I don’t know how they would know unless one product sold on 2 platforms at the same time so you had to cancel on one or the other. It’s none of their business unless it causes problems. Personally, I’d sell different products on each platform.
@@asinglewomanontheloose5590 Seems it's just a rule concerning hand made items. "According to Etsy rules, goods in the Handmade category must be produced or designed by a seller. Sellers cannot buy and resell handmade products from other suppliers or simply repackage items made by a third-party supplier." "Likewise, Etsy does not allow cross-platform selling. As a result, business owners on the platform cannot resell products from other platforms, like Amazon, on Etsy. However, it’s possible to work with to manufacture goods for Etsy dropshipping."
On my Etsy shop I had the lead time set as far out as was allowed. When customers purchased I reached out to them with a message saying how far I was backed up. I still had 3 customers give me low reviews and they sent complaints to Etsy about how long it took for them to get their order. All 3 even said the product was good they just didn’t like how long it took. It didn’t matter to Etsy that they got the items in the allotted time, I had 3 low ratings and 3 complaints in 1 quarter and they shut down my store. I had an over all 5 star rating for 4 years. I was selling about $5000 a month in this one shop. Opening my own website was the best thing I could have done for my business. Wish I had done it before Etsy shut me down.
I think of etsy as being a mall and the sellers being the stores in the mall. The mall doesn't care if the buyers didn't get an ordered product faster than the store told them it would take. The mall doesn't care if a customer doesn't like the quality of a product they bought....The mall owners only care that the stores pay their rent. Etsy has control issues and their expectations of sellers is unreasonable and unrealistic. And this will continue until sellers band together and take etsy to court. Period.
Sorry to hear. Being backed up means your store was popular. You could have just closed for vacation to catch up with orders. We buyers don't remember shop names.
As an Etsy shop owner for 4 years Etsy shutdown my shop early this year, the reason is so ridicules, we are taking commission for each item, but they banned me as my items against their handmade policy. and no matter how I sent the appeal they just decided to closed down, no many accounts I created it got automatically turns down. They banned me forever ~ well, now I am having my own website and make more money than Etsy shop
I have two very successful stores in a competitive field that were both erased! I spent $11,000 to open my stores. Honestly, Etsy needs some serious correction- they act like they have no rules! Anyone this happened to needs to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This is not his fault or my fault!! Etsy is doing this now- they are owned and manipulated!
Etsy bring Ai to make their platform be another level. How come they just cann't do a common thing by just automatic deduct the payment from credit card??
I am convinced that some sellers have relatives working at Etsy that make sure to remove their competitors. It makes no sense otherwise. The relationships between some shops and Etsy employees needs to be investigated.
Wearing a tin foil hat doesn't help. Of course there has to be less than 6 degrees of separation between an Etsy employee and a seller or two. That's how most businesses get buyers.
I'm convinced that my suspension is not happened by accident, i believe what you said that someone afraid I will wrise to compete with him, i was start to doing good and about to do very good, suddenly I had some one cancelled his order without any reason he said I don't need it anymore after that I had my store suspended and after that I have 4 from 5 orders cancelled with 1 very bad review Now I'm about do my own business, I'm gathering my self and will see what to do, I love to share that with you because what happened to me is not fair, and I believe who did that to me will be punished by mighty god, I believe that
Etsy suspended my store after 4 years of hard work. 1,500 good review/ 5,000 orders! I now sell on Ebay & Amazon. I don't wish Etsy well ! I hate it with a passion!
Same but not on your level. They closed me this past week. I have thousands in inventory in preparation for the holiday season I’m going to Shopify and eBay Like you I hate Etsy !!!!!!!!
Communication is very important, a simple message before these surprises would help. It’s already a challenge to keep up with the expectations and stay in compliance without notifications. It’s unfortunate for such a loss for $7! A simple reminder could have made the difference 👑💜🙏🙏🙏
Why would any seller consider a platform that lacks customer service? This situation could have clearly been resolved with an email, text message or phone call from a human being working in Etsy customer service… end of story! Makes me re-consider opening the shop on Etsy I have been wanting to pursue.
Etsy no longer has human communication for shop owners. Because when I had issues, I reached out and everything was a chat generator. They made their money, so they don't care anymore.
What I do not get is that Etsy WAITED TWO YEARS(??????) to collect on this old account? Basically impossible as Etsy shuts you down if you owe them money at the first of the month and you haven't paid the bill by the 15th.
Etsy is not a person. Techies run these sites. They program according to what end result they are told to achieve. This is the problem when tech bros become "business people". No human touch. Everything become data in, profit out even inadvertantly cutting off their nose. Etsy could have a great opportunity by hiring real people as problem solving liaisons.
People (ie., sellers) should directly contact the Etsy board of directors with this issue for the reasons cited at 08:26. It is easy enough to find the names of the board members. As an understatement, Etsy needs to greatly improve customer service and support for sellers.
He actually discussed that directly in the video. That's the reason he had the other account and was no longer using it, the products were for a different niche and were not the best fit.
This is such an important reminder of the need for sellers to stay vigilant about their account balances and for platforms like Etsy to improve communication methods to avoid unnecessary suspensions.
They will have sent a number of emails, he just didn't check them as the email was an old email he wasn't using anymore. No matter how much they improve communication, if the seller isn't looking then it won't have any effect.
7 dollars are not a valid reason. It is just an excuse. Someone was paid a good money to cancel him.... Yes, there is no logic to cancel a shop which brings them money if they don't replace it with something...
I opened my shop 2 days ago, charged me $15 to open a shop then after 2 days i got suspended for no clear reason i didn't even made my first $1 and they didn't refund my money
Same here, I opened a new shop on Etsy (I already have 4 shops on Etsy all with 5 Star seller). I listed a couple of items, as it was late in the evening. I thought I'd leave it and continue listening the next day. It was closed down overnight because it went against their policies. No refund, I objected but was told their decision was final! I'm now in the final stage of building my OWN website as a backup!
@@heatherjardim3878 You can file a report with the Better Business Bureau if you are in US. When you go to file and search the business Etsy pops right up! Just tell what happened and ask for your store back.
Why aren't people printing out the Etsy policy and READING it and watching what not to do videos BEFORE opening a shop? Entering the business field means that YOU have a responsibility to learn the rules beforehand. Don't end up just giving away $15 because you did not do due diligence.😊
I don’t believe this is the whole story . I hate to be cynical but I think he is not telling everything . I saw another video of his where he talked about having to refund a lot of people for products they received because the quality was not good. He blamed his supplier even though he knew what he was sending out . Not saying this this is the reason he got shut down . Just think there is more to it .
@@sparkles1260 although thats a good point and something to think about. Etsy does do this to shops all the time. If you have more than one shop and you owe a balance and its not paid they will shut down all of your shops. They did it to me a few years ago. I had 2 shops and one I forgot about and owed 3 dollars and because the balance was past due they shut down my old shop and my new one. They didnt say anything no reminders of payment owed they just shut them both down. When i paid the balance they reopened both my shops back up again. All your shops will always be connected and if you screw up in one they shut them all down!
this is intriguing but I'm thinking there may be more to story. I have Etsy stores and sometimes they release my payment early in the morning before I do my shipping. So when I purchase shipping labels I end up with negative balance because funds were already released......they take that owed shipping label money out of my bank the next day....they never wait more than 24 hours to get their owed money. So that part of his story seems a bit strange to me that Etsy would let a negative balance sit that long.
Etsy probably couldn't charge the card on file because it was likely expired. Or he removed his payment details from the store knowing he was shutting it down, so Etsy couldn't charge a payment method. It's not unreasonable to believe the account had a balance owed for that long.
Exactly....if he planned to shut store down....went into account and removed his payment details ...he would have seen there was a pending charge. And...when the account was active he could have given a credit card number that was ready to expire.
Has etsy responded to this growing criticism of their new business model in any significant way? Its really only a matter of time if they havent already. I look forward to seeing what they have to say. Also i am surprised that we dont have more “etsy alternative” platforms popping up- unless Etsy has some kind of trademark on/on parts of the concept of handmade ecommerce that is making it difficult for other platforms to get set up?
Etsy didn't lose 100K for closing his shop. One of his competitors (probably some Etsy employees's relative) MADE that 100K instead of him. Etsy lost nothing.
Etsy sending us emails to warn us about a possible suspension for XYZ reason is clearly to hard for them. The way their whole business is set up is through software automation… don’t get me started on the amount of shops who get closed because they logged in from a different IP address and Etsy thought someone is hacking their account. BOOM 💥 No warning, suspension! And 4 weeks trying to get it back. Considering we live in the 2024 and people travel the world with their Lap tops and Log in from different countries. But Etsy is not on board with it. I’d like to know how they‘d feel if Etsy got Suspended over night. They deserve the same stress they are causing to us.
Is true but you have to have different emails for every shop you open is hard to keep up. It happened to me I got suspended because I wasn’t paying attention to that email I did closed the shop but I neglected to look that I owed $2.36 but luckily I was able to get my shop back it took Etsy 1 year to suspend me. Etsy should have their programmers and design the platform where you can have all your stores in one email, with different links
So, I have been thinking about opening a shop on Etsy been going over all the rules over and over. My computer now is pretty old and eventually will have to buy a new one. So, what happens if I set up an account with this computer and it's IP address and then buy a new one and have a new IP address? then gets shut down because of a different IP?
And clearly Etsy doesn't care very much. I mean, who sets up a system like that in this modern age? There's no awareness of business standards or anything.
Geez, Etsy could also put in place a temp block and banner, letting the seller know what needs to be paid before proceeding, and then unblocking it once the payment goes through.. And how on earth can they not afford a top-seller retention team? And when are they going to get a basic and well-needed customer service chat and line for ALL of us!
It took him well over 5 minutes in his own video to actually get to the point. Things I don't care about: your family life, your selling course, whether or not the chat is AI, just tell us what the issue is FFS!
I just started an ETSY store and to be honest I have been hearing so many bad stories due to ETSY’s lack of support and the auto store closures. With so many unfair banned stories, I don’t feel confident selling on Etsy
Etsy's holding up a dollar for a nickel. Chris's explanation makes the most sense to me as a programmer. Unfortunately, as a programmer, I can't tell you the number of times you try to think of all the possible scenarios that a user might try or encounter, and the end user finds that one thing you hadn't thought of ahead of time. It's not the end users fault, but I can empathize with the developers knowing how it can happen. That being said, I also agree with Chris, that if you're logged in, something that critical should have a big red banner that can't be dismissed at the top to notify you that you are in jeopardy of losing your shop.
Adding a follow up comment. Something similar happened to an Amazon FBA seller. He was among the top sellers but got shut down. And it took months to get back online. What was the reason you ask? Dude had a non American last name, Amazon confused it for a company name. So, they shut him down. Even though clearly his passport, SSN and drivers license confirmed his name. Here’s a tip, legally change your name to a celebrity last name like Johnson if you want to run business in a US platform 😊
I am an Etsy seller. Back in 2014 through 2017, I had been assigned a personal 'Etsy Advisor'. I could contact them anytime freely about anything Etsy related. This was a program that Etsy introduced and they hand picked sellers who were very successful to be part of the program. I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to have a close relationship with an Etsy staff member who I regarded almost as a 'mentor' in many ways.
This is very sad, and unfortunately very common. Etsy doesn't have a very sophisticated algorithm for these things. With all due respect, your analysis of what happened is missing some details. Accounts are not associated with names, but with MAC addresses and IP adresses, as well as physucal adresses. Etsy keeps the possibility of different sellers having the same name. Unless you follow a strict protocol to keep accounts seperate - which is possible - they will be linked for sure. What happened there is that one shop got flagged for violating terms of services, which equals for the algorithm this seller is harmful to us, so all the associated shops got automatically closed. There is no human making an analysis of the violation, and determining the gravity of it, just bots. Hence the irrational nature of such bans, for our human eyes! Etsy should absolutely improve on these systems and humanize them ASAP, otherwise it's gonna be just like Amazon. A big annonymous machine with rules but no common sense.
It's a Russian roulette. I can confirm that sometimes Etsy could take down your account due to the things you are referring to. Sometimes it's due to a seller's fault, and sometimes the algorithm just goes crazy and picks your account randomly. I've experienced all these cases. I can't be sure, of course, because Etsy's email doesn't explain why your account was banned. Sadly, for those who have no time or the skills and knowledge to manage an online store by themselves, relying on Etsy and its 90 million client base is essential.
Same. Paid set up fee and within minutes suspended account. Have emailed numerous times but no reply! Nothing but thieves. If they can do it to one person they can do it to many! I want a refund! Shocking company!
Similar thing happened to my shop. But I don’t even know why they suspended me. We used to do over 20k+ a month on Etsy. They suspended us for about a month. Now, 1.5 years later we are lucky to do 3k a month on Etsy. I’m guessing we are shadow banned now
Can somebody explain why a shop would have an outstanding balance? I'm considering opening an Etsy shop and would like to avoid this problem. What does a shop have to pay that isn't done automatically?
One reason I can think of is if you use Etsy ads. You get charged whenever someone clicks on the ad but Etsy bills your card once a month. So an example would be you get billed at the beginning of June for all the ads people clicked on in May. He said he had closed the shop. He may have closed it before that final bill came through. Or maybe it was the listing fees.
Them not having any immediate, support is part of why so many are getting scammed on their platform ,you have a problem on ebay or the others atleast you have a chatbot or some means of simply asking a simple question without having to email an wait for days or maybe forever if they choose as they say to. Ignore your emails
Horrible! I think some of the people who are responsible for monitoring the shops are angry employees who see these creators making more than their salary and suspend shops over nonsense such as $7! What sense does that make to cost the company over $100,000 for $7?! That makes NO SENSE!
I also just had my store suspended out of no where with no warning or reason given. The time I’ve spent for them to just unexpectedly pull the rug out from under me is truly disheartening
This a great channel for peoplee looking to become sellers on these different platforms. I was recently going to sign up with the guy who was advertising his services to help people become Amazon FBA seller. He offers to do all the setup work for you (well him and his team) for a minimum of an 4 figure fee. He was very convincing abd dont get me wrong he sounds like he's ligit but my thing is, paying you to start my business gives him powers over me and most importantly what the hell would i be learning If he does all the set up for me? Doesnt sit right me and to me can cause potential problems like the ones in your videos. Plus he can ultimately make sure that never out sell him. Maybe, im not sure but seems like it to me. Im novice to all of this but im learning. Thank you!
Also, every time Etsy shuts my store it’s right before pay day!! They have kept over $400 of my sales money! I never hear back from their joke of a customer service.
Because of these issues, I am very hesitant to open a shop on Etsy! My anxiety level would not be able to handle that kind of stress if I was making AND losing that kind of money!!! Thanks to you guys for bringing awareness to this platform so that others will not make the same mistake, as easy and as possible as it is, and so Etsy sees a better way to handle this type of situation! Touché guys!
the same thing happened to me, they closed my store but the worst thing is that they don't give you any explanation and you can't even appeal because they don't give you the opportunity to fix where you failed if you really failed in something. our store was of handmade latex masks. and everything went to the ..... I don't know what to do.
I had my store suspended after 6 years on Etsy, i made an appeal and support reply me fast with no, i try hard to reach support but till now no response
If Etsy wants to shut down my shop over anything, even $0.07, go right ahead. I have multiple streams of income for exactly that eventuality. We know how much money Etsy lost by shutting down this guy and "ALL" his Etsy business. But you'll never know how much money you'll lose from all the people who read my blogs and pass on Etsy. Good luck dealing with the Chinese.
I gave up on Etsy I had 2 shops 1 was 8 months old and the other one was brand new at 5 weeks old and both were permanently closed … they sent some vague email saying that I went against policy… not sure 🤷🏻♀️ Just be very careful with your Etsy shop and your listings …
I have a question regarding purchasing Graphics from platforms like Creative Market and designing the digital file using those graphics. The new policy states "How can "designers" using Canva tackle the new policy which states "Digital downloads of sellers’ original designs: Original content created by the seller, sold as a digital download. E.g. A digital file of a seller’s unique graphic design, audio, text document, or scanned copy of physical artwork" by using graphics from Creative Market does this policy now exclude these items.
Most of the Etsy devs and support folks don’t care 2 cent about Etsy and its sellers. Otherwise, you wouldn’t see stuff like this happening. What’s really frustrating is… good honest people get shut down without any warning. And it takes weeks or months to reach any resolution. Btw if you’re making $60K, you don’t need Etsy anymore.
Fire Josh Silverman. He wirks for the sellers who make money for Etsy. No shops, no sakes. He is a terrible CEO. What kind of board idiots think his form of leadership is spot on? He has ruined Etsy. Etsy needs a competitor. Any techies out there who care about sellers?
What about someone who names their store almost the exact name as yours? I thought Etsy had to approve store names for this reason. I named my store “Making Magic by Presto” because my last name is Presto. Two other stores popped up after me, both sellers also in Florida to further confuse things. They named their stores Making Magic by --- and their first name. They aren’t selling magic tricks, or anything like that. I can’t see why they would do this. What do you think?
In the old days if you had an issue with a company you would write or call someone and most times someone would get back to you. Technology has given these large companies permission to remain anonymous and non responsive. I never hear about how these companies act quickly to fix or apologize or make financial amends. Amazon, Ebay or Etsy or any platforms seem to be SO large they don't have to care. It is so upsetting and I would love to see someone take these big companies to court and win big! But they know most makers can't or won't. UGH. I hope Etsy sees this and makes it right for him and everyone they have affected. Wishful thinking but hoping these videos will bring change and have the right thing happen.
What are the legal implications and violations against Etsy that can be taken? Federally, utilities and credit cards are required by law to make three attempts to let you know of a past due debt before they can shut you down or turn off services. This sounds more like a class action lawsuit to me.
@karenl8837 but they have follow federal commerce regulations. And misrepresentation of service is a federal offense. If Etsy is a registered business in the US.
Is it a misrepresentation of service though? Doubt it especially if you’re not playing by the rules. Most people shut down have done something, even if they’re too ignorant of things like intellectual property. It’s still an offence if they are ignorant. If there were grounds for a class action lawsuit there’d be lawyers out there recruiting plaintiffs for it. They’d not miss that opportunity.
@karenl8837 once again, you are missing the point, if no notice of past due issues are brought to the attention of the customer - usually three attempts- to be given the chance to recyify issues - shutting down services with no notification or reason by AI or bots is illegal and a class action suit argument can be made. You really think this is legal to blindly shutting off shut down or terminate services on etsy sellers?
I don't think Etsy looks at it as a loss for themselves. Customers who would have purchased from him will purchase from someone else. From their point of view, it's probably not a big deal to shut down a big shop.
Here's a warning to anyone opening an account with etsy. I'm in the UK and opened a shop a few months ago and was shocked to see they charged my £22 to join and the very next day permanently closed my account just because I changed my shop owner name to Admin. How is it even legal to do this? I did put in a request but we all know etsy policy on this..... no reply at all so Silverman is now lining his big pockets taking your entry Fee then letting an algorithm boot you out. He should be ashamed of himself.
So first of all, Etsy created their own problem by requiring every shop to have a different email address instead of just straight up allowing people to create multiple shops under one owner credentials (tax id, bank and payment info, email etc). Legitimate sellers would have no reason to create multiple accounts. This situation just shows the absurd levels that having no real seller support has gotten on Etsy. I get that really don’t care about individual sellers situations or problems, but this one really cost them a ton….first the fees they lost from a top seller, then advertising fees. I have followed Vlad for a long time, I have even purchased his course, so I know he does advertise pretty aggressively, so they lost that as well. You are absolutely right when you said that shops that get to a certain level should have account mangers at Etsy. They need to be careful not to alienate the best sellers…which they are starting to do more and more.
ETSY ............. i am out shut down moved my shop, had no problems with Etsy it is very clear that they have no clue........poor poor managing.... you guys should be managing. You clearly are more invested than Etsy how sad...keep up the good work men...... Send them a course on how to run a company!!
We have made more than 80k sales and our Etsy shop was automatically suspended for 24h, because of 3 euros which they got back almost immediately with the new sales. We never have a day without a sales, on average 10-15 a day (which is low, we used to make at least 30-40 sales a day a couple of years ago) and since the shut down our shop is struggling to make sales and have visits, I don’t know if it will ever recover, all because of 3 eur…
It’s because someone wanted your shop shut down! I’m convinced they have a program where top sellers can pay to have competitors shut down. You need to file a formal complaint with someone like the Better Business Bureau here in US. I also made sales every single days and had rave reviews… yet all 5 of my shops were shut down for no reason. I was constantly harassed by a competitor with a huge shop.
I have told them to reserve some money in account but they said they cannot. they have to transfer all money to sellers in setting time. Their accounts are not professional.
First question...had Etsy tried to contact him in the past over the 7 bucks? If so...we better open every piece of Etsy mail. I learned this from my 14 years with Amazon...Read EVERYTHING. Yet... This is so frustrating because he tried to pay it...but honestly Why would someone who makes that much money rely solely on Etsy? If we have a shopify store that is linked to etsy is that a way to have all our contacts. I was going to use etsy for clients who want to buy from me... I am thinking I will keep those in a private online store....
Hi there I have my own shops on Etsy and they closed it down for no reason I don’t know why I am new on Etsy from few months a ago I did 2 selles for now and I do handmade bags I sent them mail and waiting for there replay but really this make me down cause I works hard to grow up my business this not faire at all
Its stories like this that make me nervous to even use Etsy. Why pay all of those fees if they aren't going to have anyone's back, including their own!?
you pay the fee for the sale, that's it done. Paying fees doesn't suddenly mean you can not pay balances you owe. It doesn't suddenly mean Etsy owe you one.
How hard is it for Etsy to send them an email or have a big notice banner when they log into Etsy that they have a balance they need to pay off? You'd think with such a huge website they would be able to do something this simple.
What they could’ve done was send an email to the persons account that have the large amount of sales to let them be aware that you have a negative balance that’s
Etsy didn't lose out on exactly the same money, they only lost out on possible fees, they do pay their sellers! So they didn't lose out on a million! No matter how big the seller, no matter how much they make, no matter how long they have been selling for or how much in fees they have paid, they shouldn't get special treatment and Etsy are right not to give them them. They don't owe you one because you'd paid your fees. You got a sale and paid fees on it, then it's done. They don't owe you more because you paid a fee I'm very sorry to say. The guy in this video would have been emailed a few times and as it was an old account he didn't use, his email would also not be being checked. So Etsy have no choice, you also cannot say they should have just taken money out of a bank registered to another Etsy account even if those accounts are linked. This would be illegal for them to do so. Imagine if they got it wrong, imagine if Etsy took money out of your account and when you questioned it they said it was for another shop who had an outstanding balance that we thought was you! Do things right, don't break the rules, don't steal IP, pay your bills and don't think you're special and you'll be fine on Etsy.
Wow this suck…etsy has to invest in decent customer service department for sellers…by tiers if they want…they need portfolio managers who know the customers (sellers) and can speak from their pov.
I wanted to see what a customer would experience when they will by my product. So i used my second etsy account to by one of my products and i was suspended. Should I admit my mistake to them in my appeal? I know innocent but dumb mistake
what happened to your accounts? My main account got hit with a perma suspension, after watching this video I checked my old etsy account and realised I owed £4 for a couple of months. I've now paid and submitted an appeal but I'm not hopeful.
The big takeaway- if your store is shut down, you broke the rules. Didn’t pay your bill…shut down. Sold licensed merch…shut down. Lesson- don’t break the rules and you’ll be fine
But stores that are blatantly copying Disney and game company designs etc., are still open and selling. Brand new stores, many who have not even uploaded products yet, were shut down permanently for no reason. Those shops could not have "broke the rules", when their $15 fee was accepted, and they were allowed to be open. They had not even posted a "rule breaking" item, let alone any items.
We have autobilling turned on in our shop, so any balances are paid on Etsy's periodic schedule. I think I'm missing something. Why wasn't autobilling turned on in the cat collar shop? Also, why doesn't Vlad get an attorney and go after Etsy for damages? Deep pockets usually means settlement. Just sayin. It also would be a big wake up for Etsy management and board.

Just another video convincing me to never sell anything on Etsy.
It's really not worth it. The management is so terrible.
This is not fair Etsy suspend an account just for unpaid "7$". I think this is a red flag for all sellers on Etsy ! it's time to leave this bad platform forever 😔
Paying $15 and getting suspended without any reason and withouy any refund , this is a clear SCAM!!!🤬🤬
its one of the first lessons I learnt when i looked into droppshipping, dont be only on 1 platform coz they casn lock you out, start on a platform, then branch out and open your own controlled site.
1. I told them I travel and I wont always have the same IP- No, they want you to ALAWAYS use the same IP (Not acceptable)
2. The design - I created (No brand name just a silly text, checked with the trademark website, I was in the clear).
3. Shady for no email to notify me nor explanations WHY your store was suspended so you could fix it. (Not acceptable)
4. They will NEVER REFUND THE $15 (Not acceptable)
I OPENED MY OWN E-STORE as I am a web designer, and WILL NEVER EVER USE ETSY AGAIN!!!!!
love Etsy...no hate whatsoever... however, I would very much like to see Josh Silverman and his managements to open their own Etsy shop with a pseudonym name and try it themselves to be a seller like us for a month or three, without any Etsy staff knowing and see what's the official messy problems that the now sellers or trainers are facing.

I agree, we need to have LIVE customer support for sellers.
@@brandcreatorsnot only a live support line would do, they need to know all Etsy rules to the t. Etsy is famous for outsourcing the little number of humans that do “customer support” and they are not trained correctly.
@@brandcreatorsin all honesty a company that has 8 BILLION dollars AND offer no support for their sellers
Etsy’s number one customer is the seller because without the sellers there is no products which is no customers - it’s appalling this company makes billions and offers no support
About the same as UA-cam correct?
I have a feeling he was. Otherwise, this guy would be extremely stressed out. More stressed than he shows here. He seems smart enough to know better.
But isn't Etsy taking down shops that are selling the same products on different platforms?
@@SeedyJohnson I don’t know how they would know unless one product sold on 2 platforms at the same time so you had to cancel on one or the other. It’s none of their business unless it causes problems. Personally, I’d sell different products on each platform.
@@asinglewomanontheloose5590 Seems it's just a rule concerning hand made items.
"According to Etsy rules, goods in the Handmade category must be produced or designed by a seller. Sellers cannot buy and resell handmade products from other suppliers or simply repackage items made by a third-party supplier."
"Likewise, Etsy does not allow cross-platform selling.

Wow! Etsy should not have been able to do that.
Owned by the cabal
Imho… a class action law suit and complaint to Consumer Affairs may be better. Good luck. I hope you all get your shops back.
Etsy bring Ai to make their platform be another level. How come they just cann't do a common thing by just automatic deduct the payment from credit card??
Why are these sellers who've been banned not going to mainstream news about this? I'd blast this all over the news if it happened to me!
Great video and I feel for all the people who are unfairly suspended.
However there is one very important advice: Make sure you OWN your shop!
Unlikely, because many small, and insignificant sellers get closed down for no reason especially right now in time.
YEPPP Nail on head!
I am 100% agree.
I'm convinced that my suspension is not happened by accident, i believe what you said that someone afraid I will wrise to compete with him, i was start to doing good and about to do very good, suddenly I had some one cancelled his order without any reason he said I don't need it anymore after that I had my store suspended and after that I have 4 from 5 orders cancelled with 1 very bad review
Now I'm about do my own business, I'm gathering my self and will see what to do, I love to share that with you because what happened to me is not fair, and I believe who did that to me will be punished by mighty god, I believe that
Etsy suspended my store after 4 years of hard work. 1,500 good review/ 5,000 orders! I now sell on Ebay & Amazon. I don't wish Etsy well ! I hate it with a passion!
Same story! Over 5000 orders, 5 stars shop one day just gone… They still hold my $830 from April and I don’t know how or when ever I get it back
Same but not on your level. They closed me this past week. I have thousands in inventory in preparation for the holiday season
I’m going to Shopify and eBay
Like you
I hate Etsy !!!!!!!!
How can i sell on ebay or amazon?
Same story 5000+ orders and 5start and one day all gone
You sell your handmade goods on Amazon? How does it work?
Communication is very important, a simple message before these surprises would help. It’s already a challenge to keep up with the expectations and stay in compliance without notifications. It’s unfortunate for such a loss for $7! A simple reminder could have made the difference 👑💜🙏🙏🙏
I follow this channel and seen the video when he posted it. It was so heart breaking to see.
Same, I follow him as well.
Someone said he also had a lot of negative reviews because the quality of the items were not good.
He actually discussed that directly in the video. That's the reason he had the other account and was no longer using it, the products were for a different niche and were not the best fit.
Geeees man...for $7!!! That's not cool Etsy !! Come on!
Yep! 100%
This is ridiculous. I'm seriously reconsidering opening an Etsy shop.
Yep. More than one red flag here.
I was thinking the same thing - something doesn't seem right?? I would like to see that video but I'm guessing he removed it@asmith4786
Yup, and it’s time Etsy stepped up and made the reasons clear
Makes sense. Etsy is a big company that I hope is smart enough not to shut down a big shop for $7. And if they did, why isn't it back up yet?
this is intriguing but I'm thinking there may be more to story.
@@v_lavender7452 Michaels craft store opened an online marketplace for handmade items about a year ago.
Etsy has banned me as a buyer with no missed payments or issues. They're in the toilet
Etsy didn't lose 100K for closing his shop. One of his competitors (probably some Etsy employees's relative) MADE that 100K instead of him. Etsy lost nothing.
not necessarily true. if he is making unique products etc
That’s assuming that those people that would have purchased from him; did in fact still Purchase from Etsy platform
A shop make 100K and B shop make 100K. So Etsy get 200K. Etsy close A shop, only B shop opened. Etsy will get 100K, and lost 100K. Am I wrong?
@@zerocrystal1if the B shop sells dog collars, people will go to shop B, because shop A doesn’t appear in the search anymore.
@@Liz-wz8dh absololutely true!
Just checked and his Etsy shop is up and running.
I have checked today and his shop is suspended
Geez, Etsy could also put in place a temp block and banner, letting the seller know what needs to be paid before proceeding, and then unblocking it once the payment goes through.. And how on earth can they not afford a top-seller retention team? And when are they going to get a basic and well-needed customer service chat and line for ALL of us!
It took him well over 5 minutes in his own video to actually get to the point. Things I don't care about: your family life, your selling course, whether or not the chat is AI, just tell us what the issue is FFS!
Josh Silverman doesn’t even post anything on his X account anymore. So I don’t think posting anything to him would help.
I just started an ETSY store and to be honest I have been hearing so many bad stories due to ETSY’s lack of support and the auto store closures. With so many unfair banned stories, I don’t feel confident selling on Etsy
I agree. I'm new here & it's very scary!
Yup, it would make a lot of sense to have a banner somewhere to let the seller know before you shut them down.
I saw Vlad's video. It broke my heart for him and was super confused about how Etsy handled the situation.
An old account owed Etsy $7
yup, it's kinda crazy that they would not look at his other accounts before suspending.
Paying $15 and getting suspended without any reason and withouy any refund , this is a clear SCAM!!!🤬🤬
Oh they do way worse than that! I’ve lost thousands because of them. Etsy needs shut down.
Same. Paid set up fee and within minutes suspended account. Have emailed numerous times but no reply! Nothing but thieves. If they can do it to one person they can do it to many! I want a refund! Shocking company!
That's insane! 😨 Etsy is so big and became so inhumane to sellers! Thanks for sharing this awareness. I hope he gets his shop back!
Someone wanted him out of the way for Xmas
YEP! Vicious!! 🤦🏼♀️
all of these horror stories are making me rethink where I want to open my shop
Similar thing happened to my shop. But I don’t even know why they suspended me. We used to do over 20k+ a month on Etsy. They suspended us for about a month. Now, 1.5 years later we are lucky to do 3k a month on Etsy. I’m guessing we are shadow banned now
Can somebody explain why a shop would have an outstanding balance? I'm considering opening an Etsy shop and would like to avoid this problem. What does a shop have to pay that isn't done automatically?
Yes, for sure. I keep hearing all these horrible things and wonder should I even bother.
Honestly EBAY is awesome. I can actually speak to a representative and they have helped me fix several issues.
Any update on your shop? Any reason on why they shut it down?
This is correct. I was suspended yesterday (Sunday) and they are holding £700+ worth of my money. Scammers.
meanwhile copy cat sellers on etsy keep selling sooo unfair
! ETSY wake up you're going down
@brandcreators Is there an alternative to Etsy that has some decent seller protection and fair practices that you recommend please?
Why did it get suspended
If Etsy wants to shut down my shop over anything, even $0.07, go right ahead. I have multiple streams of income for exactly that eventuality.
We know how much money Etsy lost by shutting down this guy and "ALL" his Etsy business. But you'll never know how much money you'll lose from all the people who read my blogs and pass on Etsy. Good luck dealing with the Chinese.
I gave up on Etsy
I had 2 shops 1 was 8 months old and the other one was brand new at 5 weeks old and both were permanently closed … they sent some vague email saying that I went against policy… not sure 🤷🏻♀️
Just be very careful with your Etsy shop and your listings …
Paying $15 and getting suspended without any reason and withouy any refund , this is a clear SCAM!!!🤬🤬
Poor guy! I can’t believe Etsy doesn’t listen to their sellers still.
Etsy isn’t a utility or a credit card though.
Coming from a legal background, that’s exactly what I said on another video!
I don't think Etsy looks at it as a loss for themselves. Customers who would have purchased from him will purchase from someone else. From their point of view, it's probably not a big deal to shut down a big shop.
Agreed! Apparently, Etsy IS making alot of money to be able to shut him down.
When Etsy bots scan and catch something, it should then be looked at by a human.
I'm really new to Etsy. This is scary. Stupid question....how do you know if you have a balance. ???
so was all this taken care of and he has his store back? or just moved on elsewhere?
This is absurd. How TF does Etsy not realize what they are doing?
Sue Etsy......many heartbreaking complaints reported online.
I had mine suspended because of a fee discrepancy. I was undercharged and they suspended me because of their error.
I have told them to reserve some money in account but they said they cannot. they have to transfer all money to sellers in setting time. Their accounts are not professional.
Sounds like Etsy billing and customer departments operate like support from hell.
I've been late in paying a bill. Etsy always sends me an reminder email.
Yes, but I'm sure sometimes an email from Etsy could end up in spam and you would never see it. Just saying :-)
@@brandcreators common sense...ck your spam often
Cant they so auto emails that can send out alerts every so often?
It is like having to pay sales tax and you forget to file and you get penalties monthly
Hi there I have my own shops on Etsy and they closed it down for no reason I don’t know why I am new on Etsy from few months a ago I did 2 selles for now and I do handmade bags I sent them mail and waiting for there replay but really this make me down cause I works hard to grow up my business this not faire at all
please how did you create second shop? What did you change?
Its stories like this that make me nervous to even use Etsy. Why pay all of those fees if they aren't going to have anyone's back, including their own!?
you pay the fee for the sale, that's it done. Paying fees doesn't suddenly mean you can not pay balances you owe. It doesn't suddenly mean Etsy owe you one.
How hard is it for Etsy to send them an email or have a big notice banner when they log into Etsy that they have a balance they need to pay off? You'd think with such a huge website they would be able to do something this simple.
It is very unfortunate but what about going to Amazon handmade market place could be huge in comparison with ETSY? Does that make sense?
People and other YTers have said it is worse.
Why would you attract media to solve this issue? Less talking - more action!
I think it was a smart move, because it got attention and I heard he's back up. I wonder how man other sellers who have been shut down have fared?
Hopefully he didn’t put all his apples in one bucket. He has to diversify off of Etsy
Quite Frankly - Esty should have sent an email to all accounts advising of the $7 debt and allow 7 business days or face suspension of all accounts.
He had another shop and forgot that 7.00 was the fees on that shop.
Or send a quarterly house wide email to all sellers to check outstanding balance and the implication if not paid! Sounds reasonable gor both parties!
You are allowed to do that. They shouldn’t suspend your account for that. Especially if it was just one sale.
I experienced the same, Etsy are monsters
what happened to your accounts? My main account got hit with a perma suspension, after watching this video I checked my old etsy account and realised I owed £4 for a couple of months. I've now paid and submitted an appeal but I'm not hopeful.
@@haxbagtrinityany progress
The big takeaway- if your store is shut down, you broke the rules. Didn’t pay your bill…shut down. Sold licensed merch…shut down.
Lesson- don’t break the rules and you’ll be fine
But stores that are blatantly copying Disney and game company designs etc., are still open and selling.
Brand new stores, many who have not even uploaded products yet, were shut down permanently for no reason.
Those shops could not have "broke the rules", when their $15 fee was accepted, and they were allowed to be open.
They had not even posted a "rule breaking" item, let alone any items.
Honestly, this should be not be allowed. Etsy should have more respect for its sellers.
Can we all stop using etsy?
Tall order to negotiate with a site that is run by bots. Mission impossible.
