That's what many of us think and have been saying for years. The deal is I pay Etsy, they drive the traffic. If I have to drive my own traffic, of course I'll drive it to my own Shopify store. I miss the old times 😢
I agree! I pay etsy to market my products so they can make money off my work. I have my own website and while it can’t compete with Etsy I would rather advertise my own website.
I don’t understand how a shop of 8 years always selling daily 5 star ratings star selling and constant favourites, overnight goes to no views even with Etsy ads it makes no sense it’s so frustrating
On this platform for over 10 years, star seller, with a 5 star review rating. I beg your pardon, I'm not lazy and have enjoyed every moment of my ability to showcase my Artisanship with Etsy. Figure it out guys, you will no longer take advantage of me. I mean I was your customer as a seller and a buyer, now I'm NEITHER! 😅
50 thousand sales in 30mths, star seller, month on month all stats up for 30 mths straight, 4% conversion rate. Then comes Oct 1st, all metrics down 20 - 45%, no coincidence, traffic is being turned off certain predictable times of the day. The issue is not my end, etsy are clearly focussing elsewhere.
Where would elsewhere be? No one is doing well other than people like these guys that drive traffic to their channel. Not many people are going to do that for Etsy.
What is Etsy charging for the ridiculous amount of fees then. If I have to do all the job myself now, shouldn't I be also charged less for fees? I don't think Etsy realizes, why we all used it in the first place. Because we are so busy actually making the products and putting our energy into eveyrthing else, that at least one of those things was meant to be ''easy or lazy'' and a tool for us to releive a bit of that stress.
Every single seller needs to take this to Etsy. Because it's true. If we talk about it amongst ourselves, nothing will happen. they will probably try and raise fees if anything. But yeah, folks need to start taking all their issues to Etsy. Kind of like the election and all the citizens fighting among themselves, it does NO GOOD. Take it to the folks running the show. I have . I laughed at the answers they gave me. Basically told, uh yeah, any drop in sales is disheartening and then they proceed to tell you to "better" my listings after that's all I have been doing since this all started in July. It's the only answer they have. Kind of like coming on youtube to five thousand videos of folks saying the same thing...... well let me tell you, that's not what is going on here. It's not SEO , it's not your pictures, etc. It's overall traffic driven by a HORRIBLE unrealistic economy that has caught up to folks. There is no other explanation.
I have a Handmade Shop and will be leaving Etsy as the Primary outlet for my efforts. Time to move on. Cheap Chinese goods are unavoidable and Handmade US items will never compete. So, change is inevitable. Buh Bye, Etsy.
They need to go back to basics, some of the basic functions are not even sorted, forever changing things is not helping buyers or sellers. Get the core functions sorted. 😊
From the seller's sales numbers you mentioned, it seems Etsy is losing a lot of money right now. That has to change somewhat quickly, or Etsy is done for entirely, correct? Because out of 600 or so people, you basically said none of them are getting sales.
I had a decent week last week. First one since July. As soon as the election was over. I thought...... this is it, the problem is over. Nope, as soon as I boosted supplies and put money back into my work...... boom shut off like a light switch again. I am so disgusted with all of this.
Its turned off for lot of shops . Apart from etsy pic shops. It seems to be in rotation. Only sales lm getting are repeat customers despite updating shop working hard on it traffic wey wey down sales pretty non existent. I think platform is looseing a whole lot of money since gift mode and other changes. Even when l look for items l get shown items of zero interest. Its such a shame .
Here's the problem. Let's say my average item price is $20 with free shipping. My advertising budget (part of the marketing budget) is 5% of revenue, which is on the high side for a small business. Assuming $39 (also a little high) per month for hosting and use Stripe for processing, at what point is building my own website cheaper? $1,040 per month in revenue. Now, let's say I'm selling $5 downloads. (I don't, but pretend for a moment.) My break even point goes down to $400 in monthly revenue and that's with all ad spending sending traffic to my personal site. If I say my entire ad budget goes to Etsy ads, the break even drops to $190 monthly revenue. That's only 38 sales. As a business, Etsy's value proposition barely exists before you spend money on ads. Even if your average order value is $100, Etsy's value disappears at $21,600 in annual revenue. And that's with all the advertising going to your business website. Pour those ad dollars into Etsy, and Etsy's value proposition dies at $3,600 annually.
1. Now it's niche down? After all these years? I think the solution is going to be creating niche specific categories in Etsy 2. Marketing - why send traffic to Etsy via marketing and pay their fees? Getting traffic to another e-commerce is tough.
Thats what I have done with my makes (niche specific). Even Google says I'm "it", lol. Now to convince buyers that they NEED my 5x pricier options... Thank the Maker for returning clients!
@@ecouturehandmades5166 I wonder if I was clear...I think I'm just going to make 'Niche Categories' in my store. I don't have the time to make a bunch of new stores. I'm working on getting traffic to a Shopify store and it's tough. I don't won't to spend money on ads yet. And my Google hates my other sites I've built with hopes of getting traffic.
Some UA-camrs say not to niche down because you don’t get enough keywords you can use. We are about to get more traffic because it’s the end of the year Q4.
That doesn't make sense, your listing has the same amount of space whether you have a niche or not. Attracting random people from random keywords isn't a good strategy long-term since you will always have to scratch and crawl for new customers instead of being able to make multiple sales to the same customer.
My wife and I have a store on Etsy. We are both artists, but we have different views on what to sell. She gears more to still life and portrait paintings. While I'm more geared to martial arts and seasonal items. Should we only do one thing or stick to our individual niche within our store?
Lazy sellers!??????? How about the people who are busy making their handmade products??? I pay Etsy to do my marketing for me and now they want me to do all the work and I still have to pay them? When am I supposed to have time to make my products??
I tried to order your book, but you must first "join" - so I tried to "join" and was told an email with a login password would be coming "in a few minutes" - but it's been over an hour and nothing. Not in my junk folder, or anywhere. Possibly your system should be checked?
I’m sorry but this is NOT a matter of being lazy. Etsy is charging an arm and a leg for the “privilege” of using their marketplace. I cannot afford to wait for them to hold my pay when I need that money to start the ball rolling. I rather drive traffic to my own website. 4:57 you said people are saying they’re going to leave Etsy and open a Shopify store. Well? If you are spending countless hours perfecting your traffic machine, I’m not sending it to Etsy where the potential client can change his/her mind and buy something else.
Can you please clarify "conversions" vs "sales"....I"m thinking they are the same thing, but you guys refer to them differently depending on what you are talking about....thanks!
You call makers lazy. Some of us doesnt sell on Etsy as a full-time job, like I am. But all those talented and creative crafters are now not favorable by Etsy. So Etsy shouldn't position itself as a handmade platform, but it is just another Amazon.
