An isolated American island in the Pacific Ocean is held out by a small US Marine garrison against the Imperial Japanese Navy.
Did you Know?
The US Marines wore the M1917 helmet early on in the war.
The Special Naval Landing Forces (SNLF) were the marines of the Imperial Japanese Navy. They had a anchor as the badge on their helmets.
i didn't. thanks for telling me!!!
hi simple history keep up the great work ;)
Simple History Hey what will you do if you have
No more war and you all did them?
Simple History can you do a bid about the battle of Tannenberg ? Its really important to my countries people....thanks and great work as always
Simple History great video! Could you make a video about the Folgore Italian Division during the battle of El Alamein and their resistance please?
An interesting fact: Bill Nye’s father worked on Wake Island during the raid. Two weeks later, Japan’s navy
captured his father. Science-loving father Ned Nye was taken
prisoner by the Japanese while he was working as a civilian on a
re-fueling dock on Wake Island in early December 1941. Ned Nye spent the
entire length of World War II in a Japanese prison camp without lights
or electricity. The elder Nye kept from going crazy by building and
studying sundials.
Interesting Fact. I will look up on this further. Thanks for Waking my curiosity.
Bill Nye the World War Guy!
@@tonybarde2572 Billllll nyeeeee the waaaar guuuyyyyy....! Bill bill bill bill! War rules..!!!

US Marine: I choose you...
Civilian Worker: (Gulp)
Shiro Fukuroi xd
The browining 1919 .30 tripod mounted would not have very much if any. Just hold the trigger and aim, and pull. The tripod would take almost all of the recoil.
No but a undermanned defense will take all it can get to defend the civis wanted to help and were put in positions of importance for the defense! Now i assume some were givin rifles and other small arms but extra browning's don't hurt and who knows mabey some had prior backgrounds or learned on the spot. Smart no practical and helpful in manning a defense and holding off Japanese soldiers yea.
Canaan Darnell dudes were desperate for man power... I think when you're surrounded and isolated by outnumbered enemies, almost anything will go
Well said mate.
I have read "The History of Wake Island" and I've actually been to wake island, beautiful snorkeling and pretty much untouched since WWII with the exception of the addition of some structures and having very few personnel stationed there. Nice work on the video.
The Battle of Wake Island was known as the “Alamo of the Pacific.” 🇺🇸🇯🇵
The Japanese DID NOT make a first landing. Their invasion fleet was repulsed by Marine coastal artillery. It was the RETURN of the Japanese invasion fleet with reinforcements on the SECOND assault that made the successful landing. The Japanese also massacred 98 POWs there in 1943.
Correct
There was a veteran who served there and when the did the documentary he went back. Pretty cool
Coop Dawg Awesome dude, remember the name of the documentary?
The Bassics I wish but no. It was on the history channel tho
@@thebassics2478 I think this is it ua-cam.com/video/Os3PmiXl3DU/v-deo.html
Just a fun fact:
Japan’s attack of the island resulted in extinction of the wake island rail. The Wake island rail was a flightless bird only found on the island.
:'(
lmao I thought it was a train system.
That breaks my heart to know that. Poor birds. No one cared enough to save them. Makes me sick.
@@Apollyon_Rev911
You want to know what's even worse? The only surviving Hawaiian rail, the Laysan Crake, was actually rescued when some specimens were introduced to Midway Atoll before the species went extinct on Laysan Island due to habitat loss. Then, in 1943, navy ships arrived at Midway and introduced black rats to the atoll, which rapidly drove the Laysan Crake to extinction.
World War II was simply not a time for caring about animals.
Fun fact? What's the fun in it?
battlefield 1942, 2, 2142 and 3 anyone?
So this map is remade a lot? I remember it on BF1942
Simple History it's a fan favorite map
Battlefield 1944 2018
Oh,wait...Anyone knows a good lawyer?I may need one,as EA and DICE are going to sue me for this
BF 2
yea
Its hard to imagine that in the early ww2 most US troops on the pacific still used the brody helmets
And used bolt action rifles. They were practically British soldiers, like in ww1 where they also had Brodie + bolt action rifle combo
Wow those where heavy loses for the Japanese.
bryan martinez were
Amphibious invasions tend to have massive casualties.
Defense is way easier than an attack
Mandalorian Gaming unless the invader know how to fight
bryan martinez charging into machine gun fire thinking their magic samurai swords forded over 1 thoudand times can go against it tends to do that.
So simple yet so informative, im glad to see something about the battle of Wake Island its is a very underrated story with little numbers facing overwhelming odds
My grandfather was one of them. A civilian worker. Thank god he made it out. And could never talk about it without breaking apart. RIP to all.
Liked the video, this channel is really informative and entertaining! Hope you guys progress !

Aside from that, I request Simple History to make Philippines Campaign (1941-1942), Battle of Corregidor, Liberation of the Philippines (1944-1945), and Filipino resistance
I love how u teach us about history in a simple way! Keep up the good work m8
Hey simple history, I bought your books on WW1 and WW2, and I loved them! I have ben watching your channel for about a year now! Keep making your videos awesome!
I heard about that on the history channel once but I'm glad you did it!
My grandfather was a tank commander in General Pattons Army. I've always wanted to know more about what he did overseas. You should do a video on General Patton! Love this channel soo much. Keep up the amazing videos!
battlefield v is going to get this in December, a great Christmas gift! 😁
Definitely!
same😔
With twice the size of 1942 and Conquest Assault and Breakthrough. Need to play the new map despite the TTK changes.
Mr Bubbles And the amazing inaccuracy. Wait that doesn’t matter for the devs!
Which should I get cod world at war or bf5 ?
Stubborn American resistance. A sign of things to come in the latter years of the war. The Japanese made a big mistake by poking the giant.
Hey love your vids!
Shut up you used atomic bombs and killed innocent civilians, making you no better than the Japanese.
Ohh yeah u attacked pearl harbor and killed many people u monster
No Japanese should win win win 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵

Just love how the civilians refused to be evacuated and fought by the marines sides.
Wow 208K views that is very good in a few days
Amazing video hope you will continue the good work
thanks for posting, never heard of this battle until now
Ive always been more interested in the Pacific sense I'm Filipino and my grandpa served in the Marines.
Can you do the Doolittle raid?
This youtube channel persuades me to learn more about history!
I absolutely love this channel!
Great video, but I do have one issue with it. The Japanese did make two attempts to take Wake, but they didn't manage to land their ground forces during the first attack. The garrison's 5" guns and Wildcat fighters drove off the first landing attempt with only minor losses to itself. The Japanese didn't manage to land troops until their second attempt. Great stuff though!
if you haven't you should do the battle of Midway
That is a really good idea.
Great Video!
Im so happy you did this one!!
Teachers should use this channel as a teaching tool
They really should.
Do the siege of jadotville, the Irish peacekeepers against the Congo militia

Fascinating! I had no idea ♡ thank you always
My grandfather fought for the Japanese in this war.
Well even though he went up against my country still tell him thx for his service for his country it was probobly very hard being away from family so i respect his service
My grandfather served in the U.S. Army. Though are grandparents were enemies, I am glad that are two nations are now friends. Here’s hoping that the animosity of old remains in the past, and that are nations continue to work together for a better future for the citizens of both countries.
Megalodon tell him thanks for his service
So he killed POWs, raped women, and killed babies? Wow, thanks for his service.

Well, there is a reason why majority of the German forces near the end of the war just decide to surrender to the Allied forces in the Western Front. In the Eastern Front(against Russians), Germans prefer to fight to death than to surrender to the enemies.
Do a video about Battle of wizna. This is my first petition

Anyone here after DICE in 2019 switched the lines of battle to the Japanese defending the island instead of the Americans, in Battlefield 5?
even the US Fighter plane are F4U Corsair not the early F4F Wildcat..
I think this is supposed to be the time after the battle in 1941 where the Americans attacked wake island to take it back, and the Japanese tried to set a trap to destroy its aircraft carriers, if they had done the 1941 invasion the presence of the Sherman and every American having a M1 helmet would make no sense
@@thehaloscrolls391 The Americans never attacked Wake Island, the Japanese surrendered the island to a US force after Japan's defeat.
Jaxton Chastain they also raided wake island a few times, like the entire island, it was never invaded en mass but marine raiders did raid it, in fact the chapter rewards final cosmetic item for the American faction was a marine raider uniform that came alongside the release of wake island, so that could be it, also again it wouldn’t make much sense to have Americans with Sherman’s or Americans with M1 Garands and M1 helmets, even 1942 and 43 were guilty of this
@@thehaloscrolls391 Well I don't actually play the game, but from what I've heard, DICE didn't do a very good job at accurately portraying the war.
Attempt number 4. The Australian Army, Vietnam war as well as the battle of long tan
Wow I did not know about this thanks for telling me about the battle of wake island

You think we could get a video on the remote-controlled bomb known as the Goliath sometime in the future?

In battlefield v they have a pacific update
Can you do the yamato's death
The fear of the Japanese to not use the Yamato until it was too late for anything more than a suicide run is just a fucking tragedy. Yamato, Musashi, Hood, Arizona... Machines like that have a soul, I'm sure of it and to be cut down without a chance to do what they were built for is just cruel...
ΠΑΝΑΓΙΩΤΗΣ ΧΑΤΖΗΓΕΩΡΓΑΛΛΗΣ Yes, that’s a dance I know!
@@Archris17 The Japanese knew that it was really only good for morale. It had the disadvantage of being both expensive (in terms of manpower and material) and vulnerable to air attacks. Midway demonstrated the advantages of carriers for finding and sinking the enemy. It became clear that the Yamato was best used where air cover was available, hence why she was used sparingly.
