Russian guy here with the same problems. Piriting was so common in Russian 90s people didn't even know what is NES, they thought Dendy (Chinese clone of NES) is the original console, pretty much expected we had a ton of pirated games as well. "99999 in 1" cartridges, Super Mario 6, 9, 14 and 16 which are just other NES games with main character replaced with Mario (I had them on a 4 in 1 cartridge) and of course "original" shit like what Vinny reviewed. I had Mickey Mania 7, Earthworm Jim, The Lion King and Mortal Combat bootlegs as a kid. Btw, Donkey Kong bootleg here gave me a sense of dejavu, its depressing music sounds very familiar, resembles the soundtrack from bootleg Mortal Combat a lot, maybe it was the same company.
As a person who was poor Eastern European kid in the 90s (and played my NES-clone until 2002), I really appretiate this video. On a plus side, usually we had at least 3 games on 1 cartridge, sometimes more. So even if some of them sucked, there was always a good chance to get Contra, DuckTales or any other nice game.
I commend anyone trying to do demakes, even if they end up being absolutely trash. I love the concept of remaking a game on weaker hardware, and I am always impressed whenever it's pulled off well.

the people who submit these packs need to start including save states so he can more easily check out various notable portions instead of just playing through the first few minutes of each game and moving on (not that i personally mind that much that he does this, but it's just a suggestion in case anyone sees this who submits these or is planning to potentially in the future)

I don't really think it's fair to say the FF7 one was made entirely cynically. Consoles were heavily regulated in China until very recently, so someone who got their hands on a copy of FF7 probably wanted to make a version of it that could be sold for the console-adjacent law-skirting NES hardware clones that were common in China. It was probably at least slightly intended as a cash grab, but it was also there to get FF7 in the hands of people who weren't going to be having a PS1 any time soon.
Think they were aimed specifically at poorer families in villages and lesser cities who didn't have access to anything more than cheap famiclones, because that same developer also ported GBA games to the NES and that had an official, sanctioned release there. Middle class families could afford normal Wintel computers and rich kids could have whatever they wanted imported from Japan.
@@Incompetent_Hero The Final Fantasy VII port was released in 2005. Regardless, Famiclones were massively popular in China even before the console ban simply because they were very cheap to manufacture.
It's usually impressive for a bootleg game to demake a 16 bit game, but it's even more impressive when the control movement doesn't suck. Also, it's funnier that the bootleg demakes of disney games are actually better than the ones that are officially released on the NES's last few years of its lifespan.
I hope the Chinese Golden Sun ends up in here if there's another video, it's very jank but wasn't too terrible to get through, looked like it had potential.

I miss these times. EDIT: Also, this isn't the Lion King which has the weird game overs. This one is actually pretty normal since it's based on the SNES game. I remember playing it a lot.
The music in the Samurai Shodown bootleg is pretty much a direct recreation of the original score, but without the ability to sample traditional instruments it sounds pretty bad. It's meant to be a bunch of drum rolls, but they didn't know how to do it with the nes/famicom sound chip. Despite being a bad game I was actually quite impressed with how much they were able to recreate from the Neo Geo original, even if it ended up making the game much worse than if they'd cut a bunch of stuff for the sake of getting better performance

My mom always told me that she stayed up all night playing the SNES version of Lion King, and yet she still couldn’t figure out how to get past the 2nd level lol
We got a lot of light shone on new pieces of Tucker Lore recently. Today, we found out that Tucker has been with the same mom for at least 20 years, and apparently does not age, eternally stuck at an age of round 13-15 years old. From the Atari games Stream, we also found out that Tucker has been around since at least the 1970s, which leads me to believe that he might be as old as gaming itself, possibly dating back to the invention of the first cheap bootleg of Pong. Maybe he gets abandoned by each mom after becoming too hard to bear after each 25 year cycle, and picked up by the next unassuming mom? Or could he be but a mere carrier of some kind of family curse, inherited by a long dynasty of tuckers, all doomed to a lifetime of yearning for Video games, always turned down by the financial ineptitude of his parents? I will keep following the lore closely, i feel answers are around the corner.
Copyright and Public Domain goes as follows I believe, the character itself can be inspired or take aspects directly from the character in question, but can’t be a direct copy of them, like you can’t take Steamboat Willie and call it tugboat travis, and obviously Mickey Mouse himself is still the big prize trophy for Disney
