The Goal:
The goal of this video is to come up with a bunch of stupid speedruns to try and see if there are any fun ones that could be completed in mario kart 8 deluxe. Some of these were kinda terrible, but there were a few good ones. I hope you enjoy :)

That hell% speedrun sounds fun and would make for a great official speedrun category

Do it on the dlc courses
More of a Challenge Run, but my friend and I made up turtle% some time ago. The premise is simple: 50cc with the slowest kart combo and you must always press A&B. The goal? Finish a race. *Any* race.
Edit: @AZakgg is the first person to have posted a video of them completing the challenge. They did use items though, which makes this challenge considerably easier than I planned it to be. Someone wanna try this without items, I'll put their name up here too 😉
I dare everyone who reads this to complete a run. We didn't manage it

Idea: bankrupt% get 10 coins as fast as possible and then try to lose them all. The timer starts when you start the track
probably just do mute city with the coin panels then repeatedly drive off the track
insurance% bump into every car in the tracks with them
and into all opponents on every single one of those tracks

New idea: Rainbow% - Play all 14 Rainbow Roads as fast as possible, including remakes, which means you have to switch as quickly as you can between each console, so the optimal way is to have an electrical hazard with each individual one plugged in
Also ultra shortcuts are banned
no keep ultra shortcuts it makes it more intresting
Rainbow% and Rainbow% No USC should be separate. Also, does CTGP count?

@@warioplush I already figured it would probably be a bit much. Especially since we're opening the can of worms regarding: If CTGP counts, then does MKW Hack Pack count? What about Mario Kart Midnight? What about random CT pack XY? Best to just leave modded out entirely.
If you can have multiple consoles plugged in at once, can you play multiple games at once...?
I figure go for it, if you think you can pull it off.

2:50 you can also hit yourself with your own red shell, but it's really precise (it happened to me once lmao)
i got drown percent in 1.791 seconds
how i did it: go on PPC and choose the following combo: funky kong, bone rattler, off road tires, and paper glider and choose 200cc time trial, as soon as the run starts immediately use your shrooms and drift to the left going into the out of bounds arrow for lakitu to pick you up and get drowned
found out rollers are just better and now got a 1.696

Banana%
Baby Park, but the only item is triple banana. I’ve tried it with my friends many times and it’s actually hilarious fun. Bananas seem so mundane until you try this out.
Also, I would love to see some of these become official and get speedrunning history videos done for them.

I’m pretty sure that in die%, you can hit yourself with a red shell if you throw it backwards, because throwing it backwards makes it act like a green shell
Even if you throw it backwards, it breaks if it hits a wall
fun fact: you can see that petey piranha got second place on the hell% speedrun (more like slowwalk) because petey piranha has the most invincibility stat out of all the characters, showing invincibility really is important! (dont ask me about baby mario in 4th, he probably got that many points due to luck+high acceleration but invincibility helps more than accel
I hope this trend never dies because these videos are always funny
Now I wanna think of my own category lol
Here’s some I came up with
*Sniper%*
Hit every CPU with a Greenshell snipe no wall bouncing or backspam permitted just clean snipes only!
*Balloon%*
Get 5 different colored balloons in balloon battle
*Efficiency8%*
Utilize every item from a crazy 8 to its max efficiency. Let me explain this out
You’ll have to hit someone with the green shell, red shell, bomb, and banana.
You’ll have to hit someone with a star AND take a shortcut with it.
Take a shortcut with the mushroom and use the coin at 8 or lower coins
And use the blooper in last place

*Plant%*
Use all Plant items on CPUs
(Fire flower, Boomerang Flower Piranha plant)
These 2 are insanely luck based lol
*Boo%*
Steal every item with a Boo
*Dodge%
Dodge a shock in every possible way
(Star, Bill, Boo, Falling off)
I have other (worse) ideas:
Void %
Get lakitu to pick you up while touching nothing on every track in the game with no glitches (sherbet land is impossible)
Rich %
Get double coin items while having 10 coins in your balance
Unfortunate %
Get hit by every item in the same lap by other players
Boomerang %
Hit 3 players with 1 use of a boomerang as fast as possible
Wind %
Get picked up by lakitu on every glider in the game
Wall %
Hit every wall on every track

Nice video! The Circuit% category immediately made me think of the scrapped "World Tour" category exstension, which simply was the same thing but with all of the city courses. We could probably throw a little twist on it as well, like you need to use a character from that country for each track, switching between races.
World tour was initially going to be in the video but then I decided to change it to circuit% so that I could say that I came up with all of them myself (with the exception of hell% ofc)

You can’t play 96 courses in Vs. Mode for some reason

I don't remember how it happened, but I hit myself with my own red shell once.
I play MK8 casually, so I'm not really sure how red shells route. I was in 1st or 2nd place and threw the shell forward. When I threw it, I think it was during a part of the course where karts "behind" me were in front of me, driving in an opposite direction (lap 3 of peach's garden is an example of where this sort of thing happens). The shell went forward for just a couple seconds before it pivoted and hit me as I rounded a bend.
Red yourself wouldn't be as funny as blue yourself, but it would probably be more technical and less RNG reliant

True hell%: Same rules, but you have to place 1st in every race, you have to do all 96 courses, plus a 2nd run of tge 4 worst courses to make it a 100 race run
I got a 16:11.33 on Circuit%, although I did use 200cc time trial
Another idea might be item%. Get every item in the game as fast as possible. It will be partly luck based, but your position in the race can influence the chance of which item you get ofcourse.

meta% - on a new save file, you have to unlock every kart piece used in the current yoshi meta, which is: teddy buggy, roller wheels, paper airplane glider.

Huh, weird premise considering that Mario Kart probably has more speedruns available than any other game in the world. Each level has an individual track leaderboard as well as individual lap records for each stage.

My brother and I accidentally created a similar Hell% a few weeks ago. We hit random items and didn’t look to see what it was, ended up with blue shells, lightning, and bombs. 😅

I did Die% with Coop, Mr. Scooty, Rollers and Paper Glider on DK Mountain in 4:20 in 2 tries and barely got first place on the second try.
Request, jump off a cliff%. Jump off a cliff on any track with any combo, no items, 150cc, vs mode so yeah happy racing!
2:47 I think you can hit yourself with a Red Shell if you throw it backwards and have it bounce off a wall
No,throw it forward in first place and go last place in the middle. If the Red Shell doesn’t hit anything, it’s good.
In die percent if you have three red shells and get hit by lightning they can sit on the track like bananas but you need a lot of luck for that
My time for the panel% was under 8 seconds
I did Circuit% with Spark, Mr. Scooty, Rollers and Paper Glider and won all 8 races in 16:43.

Hell% would probably be easier if you weren’t front running. Might work to go to the back wait a few seconds, then drive. Feels counter intuitive but the cpu might go fast enough for you to only catch up last second if you don’t drift or generally try to go fast. Might be faster for you since you take out all the time you’re getting blued.

@@livwake it's a speedrun, doing nothing wouldn't be optimal. Also, I think Baby Park would have to be banned for being too short
