I love how halfway through the song the crowd stops talking almost entirely and all you hear is the sound of BoC playing. There were some non-believers over by the bar area, they were the ones shouting "Press play" and "where's your guitars" as boc got ready to perform. What then transpired was probably the most 'Punk' moment i've ever seen live and by that I mean punk in the purest sense; doing what you believe in, what comes naturally and to hell with the doubters. After 6 minutes of pure mind-tickling bliss the final chord faded away and the entire room (which had settled to complete silence for the tune) exploded in rapture. Since this is the only recording I've heard of this song, I find it interesting how the audience voices in effect merged with the music to become part of the song to me.
Notice: I grow closer to myself from the artist’s obvious love. From now on this comment is only here to inform the BoC brothers, fellow BoC fans, and uploader of the video that I love them.

I've really grown fond of the crowd noises in this recording, especially the "whoo" at 0:32 I feel like it adds some more flavors to the already amazing sound
BoC plays quite well with vocal samples. Either because they've drilled it into our heads from the get go, or that their atmospheres with the aid of people talking, can actually increase. Probably both.
To me, this sounds like one of those songs thats signifies an end to something, like seeing someone for the last time and knowing it's the last time you're ever gonna see them.
I'm sitting by a river with this song on repeat. Remembering my deceased parents with tears in my eyes. Thinking of the childhood I had, and the childhood I never had.
I was there, the best gig I ever saw. The “Press play” and “where’s your guitars” shouting was coming from the bar area. By the end of this track everybody was sold. Unbelievable experience
Makes me remember a dream I once had. at a family farm out in the country and found a hidden world through a trap door. The sky perpetually blue, the fields green and orange, just like this...the buildings and the people made from hay, I fell in love with them. I left to tell others of that place, but no one listened, no one believed, and I never found my way back again.
Boards of Canada never consciously make imiations or pay attention to music around them. Mike actually mentioned that Marcus stops listening to music entirely for months to make original material, and they have said in interviews they dont listen much to new music, old stuff inspires them more.
What I love most about synths/strings/woodwinds and other instruments with the capability for darker timbres is how they can make simple song structures like this sound so rich and ethereal.
We are all children of the universe. It makes you, who read this, my brother or my sister. And I can't stop feel love for you right now. Be in peace, whoever you are
The scariest...saddest...most beautiful instrumental I ever heard. The last I heard something similar in nature was 'And the gods made love"by JHE in 1968, I was 7 years old, scared me too death, but I keep saying my 20 year brother to play it over and over.
Man, this song is just so beautiful. Pure bliss. The way the background noise fades in and out with that warm, oscillating synth pad, mimicing the ebb and flow of the ocean. They say that in heaven, the ocean is all they talk about. There's just something about this song that makes me want to be a better person. To open up, be grateful just to be a human being, alive, in the 21st century. To rip the band-aids off of my emotional wounds, throw my hands up to the sky, and exclaim the world "This is who I am. This is who I've always been".
You are. You are, and I am. Damn, you rarely think about it, but every day you meet people online, like real people, and it's something that seems to be rarely appreciated. It's such a silly thought, but it's like two parallel lines that eventually converged at some single point in this everlasting flow of time just to acknowledge the fact of each other's existence.

The best i can describe this song is nostalgia in music form. its too bad it never got a studio release outside of someone recreating the song from scratch. but the voices do add that extra charm this song has to offer simply by reflecting youth in its prime imo.
If i wont be here in 2029 then im prolly dead or worse i forgot about BoC. But if i will come then I'm buying a cold beer for every single one of you so we can drink and talk about the past.
there was a time, long ago, when it was hard to stop my tears from falling down while this osng was playing. This is a weird feeling but I kinda miss those times.
+Joel Zachariah I agree, the closest way i could describe it is an overwhelming feeling of what seems so be all emotions at once, conflicting and intensifying, like the deepest sorrow and feeling overjoyed simultaneously.
+akrobatapobyku a feeling that there is something more... more than this... something we are feeling that is always around but cant be touched. something unseen that is as real as the oxygen that surrounds us. connecting us together. each blade of grass to the stars in the sky. know in your heart as the clock counts down i am with you holding your hand. where ever you are. you are. i am. we are. not alone...
1am at night, listening to BoC. My mind slowly wanders through the abyss. A black giant hollow abyss which holding all my experiences, knowledge, feelings and nothing else. I see everyone i love and i hate yet i feel nothing towards them, realizing the presence of every human that stepped on this very earth in that very moment. Like a train slides in front of my eyes, i see every human's life sliding in front of me. I experience every feeling they felt, they are feeling now and they'll ever feel. The sadness of a soldier who left his family behind, the happiness of a child who got a present for the first time, the hope of a mother wishing his child's to be alive who's stuck under construction after an earthquake. As i shed a tear with soldier, i smiled with child and prayed with mother. I start to spin as the Earth spins, i start to spin around the Sun as Earth spins around it, i start to spin around the black hole in the center of our galaxy as the solar system spins around it, i start to drift as the Milkyway drift in this black sea of nothing but energy we call space. I understand my presence in this colossal system, feeling less and less important as the frame gets bigger until i become nothing but a single dot. My entire existence becomes meaningless yet my mind's bonds are broken, free to wander anywhere. It wanders galaxies, planets, anywhere it desires for hours. But comes back to only thing that's important, my self, my mind. My mind realizes what creates this universe is the mind itself, without it there would be no universe, no humans, nothing. I wish i could share these feelings with everyone i know but they wouldn't understand, they didn't before. This is a brief section of my adventure i make occasionally. BoC is the most unique type of music i've ever felt in my entire life. Thank you guys for being beyond awesome, you brought a whole different dimension to the music world.
I love how halfway through the song the crowd stops talking almost entirely and all you hear is the sound of BoC playing. The song sounds like it has a slow start, as some BoC tracks do, but as you listen through you realize the song doesn't pick up or progress further than these few chords. And then you realize you're focusing solely on the tones being played, you realize that this music is coming from a deeper personal and emotional place. BoC wants you to feel something. This feeling is worth more than the song dropping out into a 'sick beat' to pander to a crowd. Any DJ can do that. But not just anyone can do what you're hearing here -- not just anyone can jerk feelings from your subconscious like this. This is why Boards of Canada is one of my favorite artists of all time. This is pure stuff, guys. Yeah, I've changed my mind and would like to retract 'ive that I or anyone else has said.
Discovering Boards Of Canada back in 2002 was the best thing that happened to me musically and mentally. This is the song the whole world needs to hear. Music is the key.
It's taken me a long time to realize the reason why this song gives me such a strong feeling of nostalgia. The nostalgia is not for a time i never had, but for a the time i've had so far. This song seems to describe my life. anyone else feel the same?
God, this song makes me think of life. I mean everything, love, nostalgia, hate, sadness, samsara, and the pointlessness of everything that is the most important to me. In my opinion, the chatter and stuff makes me think of humanity, and I love it. I cannot believe that one day my wife and kids, and brothers and sisters, and parents won't mean a thing. Existing is tough.
My dream is to meet the brothers some day and tell them how much their music has changed my life. About 4 months back, I was on the verge of suicide. I had it all planned out, I was going to pop on "Turquoise Hexagon Sun" and on the final note, I was going to pull the trigger. As I listened to the song, I saw the beauty an changed my mind. I haven't had a suicidal thought since.
I know that this was played live, but I just want to highlight the fact that, the first time I heard this, which was 2 years ago I think, I didn't imagine the audience to be theirs. What pictured in my head was an outdoors high school sports game. I had just graduated from college that same year and I never felt so attached to my high school days than at that time. Fast forward to now, almost done with college and learning so much about life, I want to go back to my school and hear how much the audience here resembles it there. The people cheering, living in the moment and not having a worry in the world, just wanting to enjoy the event. I will always look back to this song in that way. I can see myself in that crowd, seeing everyone happy and moved by what's being displayed to them. That just touches me in a way nothing else can. I love to see people happy. I also find it very strange how this music is the perfect way to depict that.
in the boards of canada community "Notice: I distance myself from the artist’s obvious satanic belief. From now on this upload is only here to inform about that" is a huge copypasta. A lot of it is based off their album Geogaddi that does have satanic stuff hidden in it but the notion they actually believe it is absurd.
To those who asked about the picture in the video: I don't remember where exactly i downloaded this picture. Althought somebody in the comments answered that question once a long time ago. The place is somewhere in germany.
I have this unwarranted feeling of nostalgia to a song I only just discovered. Thank god I stumbled across BoC. They have changed the way I feel about electronic music. Awesome.
Back at times, when I was a student, with few other close people I was the main quarter of organasing a massive party, the whole campus of students ever been to. It took place in the garage, designed by one man, it was two-floor apartment, we had dj set and more than hundred people staying close to each other in somewhat of 60-70 sq m. I left the party when the most reliable people came to it, and i returned when more than 80 people came. I was talking with all the people, i was astounished, because it was massive and that was exactly what i was seeking for long part of my life. I did drugs, and at some point i understood i am not handling it, i went to bathroom, turned off the lights, and while people were banging on door i was just lying on the bathroom carpet in full darkness. At that moment of time, i did not knew this song, but as i listen to it know, it lays on like a second skin on the faded muscles...
I don't enjoy their official albums that much so many songs are boring and a little too clean for me but the old tunes and random35 comps have so much brilliance on them
BoA is a weapon of peace, this song brings out emotions in me that ignite all of my most creative thoughts, it makes me calm when angry i can talk when i am speechless and i am speechless when i can talk, this song is truly amazing. it brings calmness and thought to all that listen to it.
This is beautiful and completely original. I can't really categorize this into any one of their major albums. So just hearing something brand new from their older works (even though it's live) is such a breath of fresh air.
A new album by BOC is loooong overdue. Nowadays many electronica artists try to immitate their sound but the truth is that most of them miss something: the warmth and the soul that exist in their seemingly simple music patterns. BOC's music was always much more than the sum of its parts.
nothiing is evil until human evolves by thought and belief .....but i remember when this was as pure as rain. it falls .....but it cleanses .... the irony ....

Beautiful piece of music, and I love the background noise. Kinda makes me feel like I'm there. I've been listening to this for a few years and I don't think I'll ever get tired.
Been coming back to this piece for about 12 years now. Just as potent as ever every time I listen to it. There's definitely a certain magic that was captured during this performance. You're hearing and feeling the energetic exchange happening here. Lightning in a bottle, as they say.
i swear i find myself fighting back tears untill my nose starts running everytime i come back to this track. nice comments everybody... this track is just indescribably moving...
It still amazes me how BoC just....is. There's no better word for me to describe their music. It always feels so right and natural when I'm listening to them. As if the music is supposed to be there.
It kinda makes you look back and think what is life. Just focus and reconsider the beauty in the everyday things (laughter and conversation between people in the background, the beautiful picture of nature). I think that's the point, just look back and realise how beautiful life is, and we often forget the wondeful everyday things. So this melody reminds me to live in the moment and enjoy in every little sound I hear and in every sight I see. Life is so beautiful
Fair play if anyone thinks the sound of the crowd spoils the tune but personally I think it adds so much to the recording. The fact that this video is still online after so many years I think proves that it was meant to be here. This video is the only place this piece of music exists for the majority of people around the world, therefore the extra noise in the recording is part of the song. One of the best pieces of music I will here in my life.
@@Program7 so then your most logical conclusion is that they are satanic? There's more verbal evidence against them being satanic than there is that they are.
They showed the signs and the signs have a meaning. Only because they said in interviews that they aren't satanists doesn't mean anything. Again, also remember their taunt to Jesus on their last album by that one track ''nothing is real''. This is all not random. All together it give us a clear picture of how they think and who they are.
@@Program7 you're wrong, but im not gonna continue arguing cause I know neither of us will budge in our belief hahaha How come you listen to BoC even though you don't agree with the imagery they use?
A couple of years ago I found an Aphex Twin t-shirt in a thrift store and the name looked familiar to me, so I looked it up and became instantly obsessed with Aphex. Through Aphex I found BOC, and through BOC, my life changed.
I have been listening to BoC since I was in early High School and have had some truly profound moments and realisations about life thanks to them. Recently I have began to explore Eastern religions/philosophies and the parallels between what I am reading about life, "living in the moment", experiences of death, etc, are unreal in that I feel I already have experienced these things through BoC. Yes, I have taken psychedelics in the past, but I have equal experiences WITHOUT drugs & just BoC.

Since this is the only recording I've heard of this song, I find it interesting how the audience voices in effect merged with the music to become part of the song to me.
It’s weird some of my fav tracks of all time are bootleg live recordings and you will memorize the crowd noises. They just become part of the track.
just like Oldboy - Northernaire
It's a shame that this is the only version. I've been hoping for years that BoC would come out with a new album where this was included.

Exactly, I will never forget discovering this song.
Who says the ocean is all they talk about in heaven

I love how halfway through the song the crowd stops talking almost
entirely and all you hear is the sound of BoC playing. The song sounds
like it has a slow start, as some BoC tracks do, but as you listen
through you realize the song doesn't pick up or progress further than
these few chords. And then you realize you're focusing solely on the
tones being played, you realize that this music is coming from a deeper
personal and emotional place. BoC wants you to feel something. This
feeling is worth more than the song dropping out into a 'sick beat' to
pander to a crowd. Any DJ can do that. But not just anyone can do what
you're hearing here -- not just anyone can jerk feelings from your
subconscious like this. This is why Boards of Canada is one of my
favorite artists of all time. This is pure stuff, guys.
Yeah, I've changed my mind and would like to retract 'ive that I or anyone else has said.

It's taken me a long time to realize the reason why this song gives me such a strong feeling of nostalgia. The nostalgia is not for a time i never had, but for a the time i've had so far. This song seems to describe my life. anyone else feel the same?
Exactly man... BoC are the masters of this.
The powerful, resonant synths cutting through the silence is so beautiful.
BoC's music is like my life.

The melodies from BoC is like a drug, when youve started listening you cant survive without it
Some of Little Dragon's music is like that now for me too brother.
Oknytt You’re right!!

BOC. The absolute highest expression of what electronic music can achieve.
Wow! ❤
I want some headphones permanently attached to my ears and have this song on repeat for the rest of my life.

Probably my favorite BoC song.

It still amazes me how BoC just....is. There's no better word for me to describe their music. It always feels so right and natural when I'm listening to them. As if the music is supposed to be there.

This will always be one of my favorite BoC songs
For some reason, this beautiful music against the still background makes me really sad.
If you look carefully, the background is very slowly shifting.
Thank you for the honesty
Boards of Canada really have a strong emanation of childhood nostalgia and wonder for the natural world.
Nostalgia for a world shared with us via image and sound, but not a world that we can touch. A warm, peaceful life in a fertile place.
Just a reminder that BoC is not satanic
thank you for your time
From where do you know that they are not satanic? You cannot prove that, same like i cannot prove that they are satanists.
