This movie was so good, I found it at 2:30 in the morning and was just crying, laughing and loving how brilliant the director was to be able to capture all of our human emotions, kudos to everyone!
Right? I saw DOWNHILL; it had its own charm, but this had so much more depth. I hate to say it’s the difference between European filmmaking and American, but it probably is…
No it’s really not. How brilliant? What are you smoking? You genuinely think we needed 30 second drag on shots of snow? You genuinely think repetitive dialogue and no conclusion is brilliant? There’s nothing likable about the characters because before the drama even starts we don’t know anything about them. The kids act like they’re gonna get a divorce but because we don’t know shit it doesn’t translate. The movie is legit about 5 minutes of characters peeing. Tarantino has feet and Ostlund has Pee
As a married male viewer, the closing scene of 'Downhill' resonated deeply with me. The moment when the four of them share laughter and hugs, it seems like all worries vanish into thin air. However, when the roof's snow suddenly falls, everyone hurriedly dodges, revealing a sense of self-protection. This moment couldn't help but make me think about the helplessness and reality within marriage. Even though there's an apparent atmosphere of reconciliation, the internal struggles are undeniable. The actors' performances and the scene's design complement each other, making this scene the pinnacle of the entire film. It's a realization about life. The entire movie not only made me reflect on the characters' actions but also prompted deep contemplation about marriage and human nature. Therefore, I hope scenes like this become a mirror for the audience, sparking profound reflections between spouses. In the journey of life, we all need to bravely face difficulties and honestly consider each other's needs. 'Downhill' is precisely that kind of film, urging both partners in a marriage to work together towards a more mature and resilient relationship through intense emotions and inspirational scenes

I've seen this movie 3 times and it never occured to me that people are considering it as a strong comedy over a drama? I thought it just handled the drama with a little amusement, nothing that had you leaving the cinema talking about how hilarious it was. Kind of like Marriage Story. It handles drama with a little comedy sometimes, but it isn't considered hilarious persay. I am questioning my humanity at how differently I've interpreted Force Majeure? Can anyone weigh in on this. D;
Hot take in reply to a year old commit but I think people in general tend to overlook drama in search of other, more 'pleasant' genres. There is nothing wrong with you, I'm the same. But many audiences don't want to have to think about the often sad truths drama movies have to offer so they automatically pay attention to aspects of other genres. Also black humor in film is a weird thing where some may just appreciate its wittiness and laugh, some may mainly see the sad core and cry even if it was presented with wit. Marketing and false expectations are a factor too. I hate to see really smart horror dramas get bad reviews because people expect a bunch of jumpscares and are disappointed when they get slowly unnerving social or psychological horror instead. OK sorry for my monologue byeee
This reminds me long time ago when i watched a movie in cinema and at one particular scene, i burst out my tears like a baby, like i really felt heartbroken. But i could hear people around me and even my sister beside me were laughing their ass off.
I’m not sure how many see this movie as a comedy, but it definitely isn’t. It is a drama, however not the “cry me a river” kind, but the “capture reality” kind which inherently involves some funny and awkward moments, which are translated in movies like this into whole satirical scenes. The core of this kind of movies is not to make someone cry or laugh but to make him ponder in the long silence.
It's an excellent movie that makes you question yourself in a really honest and unsettling way. It's far too easy to just say, of course I wouldn't do that! How do you overide instinct?
Exactly, perfectly said. When everything is going well, we easily brush aside such a possibility. But when the shit finally hits the fan, you yourself might as well be a stranger to you.
The eyes go into tunnel vision when the fight or flight is activated and periodically you freeze as you assess quickly. If the child is in your hands you would run off with the kid in your hands. You will see what is immediately around you, but not remember everybody who was there. You might have forgotten the kid sitting reading quietly in the corner. You over ride instinct by training. When in the fight or flight you fall back to the most rudimentary and automatic actions you know as complex thought is impeded but muscle memory will be easily activated. You practice stop, drop, and roll pretending you were caught on fire then one day you catch on fire you automatically stop drop and roll as that is what your body trained. Impulse and instincts are built upon habit.
It's a matter of character and integrity! I myself have experienced a similar situation and although I witnessed grown man running for their lives, at the same time, I also witnessed others taking random children in their arms and running while shouting to the ones who stood frozen to start running too. So, no, its not only a matter of instinct after all and I guess that this is what this film is all about!
FORCE MAJEURE Director Ruben Östlund manages to stretch his film for two hours, based on a single, devastating question: do we really know those people we think we know? Many things are taken for granted in the relationship, important subjective matters are never mentioned, until a dreadful event that threats their lives confronts them with a disparity of reactions that triggers a cascade of doubts, quickly shared by others who find themselves unexpectedly involved. Östlund reveals an exquisite control of the environment, which accompanies the growing feeling of estrangement and coldness of the woman towards her husband. The point is well made in the first hour and a half of the movie. But the director does not stop there. The last scenes on the bus repeat the concept, this time from the female perspective: how would a woman react in a desperate situation?. That outcome is worth seeing.
I love the end scene because it all comes together. We see the wife "run like hell," leaving her husband and kids behind, while his bearded friend stays absolutely cool and control of the situation. Tomas comes out ahead too, because he actually is much more relaxed about the whole thing.
I feel like these are shill bots paid for by Ostlund or Ostlund himself. It’s an hour too long and the final scene offers no satisfying resolution at all. If that was the big reveal then it could’ve been told in a half hour not two
By reading some of the comments, I see some people didn’t get the actual subject of the movie. We are not supposed to laugh at Tomas’s but we only do because he is a man and he’s supposed to act heroic. His behaviour is not only more typical but also sensical.Great movie!
I was laughing at everyone throughout. I was dying during the scene where his wife starts telling the story AGAIN to his friend and young girlfriend, even though they already agreed to move on. Ostlund doesn't show his face at all during this scene, so it's much more effective because we're just left to imagine how he's reacting. Fantastic director and great acting in this one, too.
@@vladimirhorowitz how is that scene comedic? Me and my friends were definitely laughing but at how ridiculous the plot was and how we thought it was gonna be an intense movie about an avalanche and not a slog fest thru petty relationship issues.

Good one
Do any one knows how was shooted that scene where all family brushing their teeth in front of the mirror?
Kanima Studio I'd say underatudies filmed from backward, the familly is brushing their teeth in front of the camera hence creating the illusion of a mirror...
Wow, good question, I never thought of that.
+Chris Bryan thank u for answer anyway ;) things like this in movies dont let me sleep at night until i find answer HOW DO THEY SHOOT IT ;) (i've figure IT out for now )
@@nicorigo5661 This film came out in 2014, not 1974. CGI exists.
@@spenser9908 What can I say I am old school. Also doesn't seem like CGI to me.
Where is will Ferrell I didn’t see him in this trailer
I came here from hot wings challenge of will ferrell then his movie downhill and here I am not sure if I wanna watch movie with subtitles but it seems funny
You never think about the subtitles once you're invested. It doesn't even seem like it's in a different language eventually.
