Hard to watch this back. Actually, all these years later, I notice how incredible Johnny was as a support, how he put his own feelings and pride and wellbeing to one side in order to care for Ben. There's definitely some love there. Hopefully one day they get a chance to reconnect.

I have been prone to believe that, but it's stupid, and wrong. Justice over revenge, hopefully life (proper life), or at least a lifetime of guilt for the killer (or both)
It's a fantastic moment, showing the tipping of the scales when Phil realised exactly what type of monster he's created and unleashed with his own hatred and bigotry.

Ben admitting to Johnny the trainee lawyer that he'd consider revenge murder on sight was a big turning point in their dynamic. Johnny didn't bat an eye, surprisingly. He could have been the next Richie.

Apart from what he did to Louise, Jordan and Heather, Ben always had his angry and emotional side but he was never a complete sociopathic asshole like this new Ben; he was also kind-hearted, caring, and sympathetic. I just cannot see this old Ben doing what this new Ben has done (e.g. human trafficking, framing someone, hitman against his uncle, blackmail, dodgy works, harassing Callum, etc, etc) .
The inclusion of Linda looking anxious at 9:01 telegraphs that these HWs were considering making Ben/Johnny the next relationship. Alas, it took another few years for that pairing to happen, and then it was only a throwaway filler arc before Johnny left and Ben was recast.
Their relationship has always been so underrated. Even when they were a potential ship (twice), people slept on them. Hopefully Johnny returns one day in the next several years, Ben becomes single, and they can try to reconnect and couple up again.
Always amazes me that Steve McFadden didn't win awards at British Soap Awards for such a long time ..( has he even won best actor ?) As Steve clearly has / had a bond with the Ben actors and also Jay as you can see so much of Phils acting in their characters , Vulnerable , caring , loving but don't want anyone outside the family to see it.
Eastenders really is the best soap by a mile in the uk . I know this was years ago but when they get it right , which are doing with pretty much every storyline just now (aside from boring Keanu) , they smash it

@@that_crazy_shark_lady Yeah, the actor has put up a video online of him taking his hearing aid in and out to reassure fans that Ben still wears it, it's just a smaller model. I think he also said that Ben wears contacts now (no idea if Max actually wears any for his scenes or not).
He wears contacts but sometimes glasses in the mornings on the show. There was a big story line where he lost his hearing and was struggling and needed the hearing aid to help
