I had this exact issue and was quoted £130 and a 4 week waiting time by a local vacuum repair shop. I bought the part for a few quid on eBay, and following this guide, was able to complete the replacement myself in about an hour! Thank you for this video! For anyone else trying this I would highly recommend having good tools for it, such as the long screwdrivers with decent handles on them in the video, I had to muddle through with some cheap tools which made it much harder (but still doable!).
You`re welcome. I`m glad it helped. For sure you will need good tools, especially for the torx screws (T8). I also uploaded a new video (3 ways to fix the broken trigger issue). Is more detailed and gives you more options to solve this issue.
Thank you so much! I had the same issue with my V10, so I 3D printed a new trigger part and followed your video. The Dyson works great and more importantly the wife is happy!
Thank you for your video, I was able to repair my v10 thanks to you ! It's great that you are talking us through the steps, most videos will only show us and put a little music.
January 2025. Thanks, just completed the replacement in 90 minutes following this. No problem, and my Dyson V10 didn’t have the silicon protection on the board. The plastic trigger was broken in such a way it prevented a direct pull-out, so I had to break and prise it out through the trigger hole. Replaced with a steel version, a little smear of Vaseline helped get the new trigger over the pins.
Excellent video!! I just finished replacing my trigger after following this video. My trigger was broken in the exact same place as yours. Got the part and the toolkit from Amazon, and, after a week, I'm vacumming again. Thank you so much. Your video it's been very helpful.
thank you for making this video and helping us guide us through this process. could not have done it without your help. wishing you all the luck and love and kindness in this universe
Thank you so much for this video. I ordered a replacement kit incl two long screwdrivers on Aliexpress. There wasn't a manual. Because of this video I was able to complete the replacement on mine Dyson V11. This video is superrrrrrrrrrr 👌👌👌👌👍👍👍
First off, I never comment on videos, so I hope that shows how appreciative I am 🤣. My dad never really fixed anything growing up (maybe cause they didn’t have UA-cam back then lol). Thanks to your video, my Dyson lives.
Muchas gracias.
Great video, thanks a million, you’re 100% right they don’t make it easy to take them apart ! But you definitely do ! Dyson much like other manufacturers seem to put hi usage parts in their appliances, made of plastic, probably hoping when it breaks you’ll go buy a new one ! Thanks again 😄
Thanks! My switch wasn’t broken or cracked but apparently just flimsy enough to not always work. Bought a replacement switch that was much stronger plastic and now it works as soon as you start to pull the trigger rather than after squeezing it all the way down and still not working sometimes
Fantastic! Just did it. You better are equipped with good tools to do it. Specially almost at the end of the dissembling you need a torx T9 (as before) but long and thin. Also a flexible adapter to reach some torx T9 as angle and space is minimum, this T9 is a must
Thank you so much.. orderer the piece from amazon 9euro.. hard to dissemble and reassemble but very very well explained and showed. Be gentle and sort every screw different from the other. Thanks for saving me 200euro:)
Огромное спасибо за это видео! Благодаря вашему видео я смог легко поменять курок пылесоса! Все было снято очень подробно и четко! Это мне очень помогло! Спасибо!
Hello! This is a very good question. In my opinion, the button fails due to a design issue with the button, the button having a weak area that fails when high pressure is applied repeatedly. In my opinion, using an accessory like the one you mention would help because the pressure applied to that button will be constant and, certainly, lower than those pressure spikes when the vacuum cleaner is used without such an accessory.
Thank you for the helpful video! Unfortunately, the display no longer turns on and the vacuum cleaner is pulsing. Could you please let me know what I might have done wrong?
Great video, thanks for uploading. A fiddly job for sure, but worth the effort for the money saved. I found a PZ1 and a long reach Torx T8 screwdriver to be perfect for this.
Hello thank you very much, this video will help me a lot, my V11 has had this problem for a few days, so I'm going to buy a reinforced model, and change it Thank you very much, it's very well explained!
I bought the new part (reinforced) because the original part is thin and I think it's just right and it will break in time, so finally, yesterday I did the assembly, disassembly, and replacement of the defective part with your video, and frankly nickel, I'm delighted, it was rather fast and it is working again Thank you, it helped me a lot
Did you figure this out? I'm having the same problem. I have the white panel open, and I'm trying to avoid disassembling the next part which was tricky. When the battery is in, it feels like the trigger has a good range of motion.
I had the same problem. I figured it might be the new trigger being a little bit too long, applying pressure on the switch prematurely. So I took a blade and cut off around 2mm of the edge. That worked for me.
thanks for the help. I was confused with the trigger when re assembling it as it wasn't springing out to the off poison until I saw you slide the battery back in place then it was all clear. the other thing I had trouble with was power leads connecting to the motor. After bending then up to get them out I found it difficult to get correct angle without putting a lot of pressure on the housing which I ended up doing.
I'm glad I could be of help. Yes, some operations can cause problems. The important thing is that you managed to get over it and the vacuum cleaner is functional again.
The old trigger piece did not look bad but the pivot holes were worn and elongated a very little bit, but it fixed the problem. Can't believe it was designed to be so critical..
I accidentally ripped the white and black wires off the board. I thought I stuffed it up but I tried putting it back to the two holes and it seems to be working and charging fine. Would you know what the two wires are for if I will have any issues later down the track?
The two wires you refer to are connected to the connector that powers the brushes. If those wires are not installed correctly, the motorized brushes will not work. So, make sure they are connected correctly in the electronic board. You just have to simply push them into the dedicated holes.
Great Vid, followed it for my V11 which was slightly different. Only problem I face now is after putting it all back together and sticking the battery in, is it turns on and stays on, from what I've read elsewhere its because i didn't push the trigger mechanism high enough or the new trigger is slightly longer - not sure. But people typically file down the black trigger button on the battery and it fixes this issue. So will have to do that.
Mine still wouldn’t work after replacing the trigger. The battery and the trigger works, yes but the vacuum doesn’t. Could I have ruined the circuit or some other part while replacing the trigger? When the filter isn’t placed and I pull the trigger, the filter light doesn’t turn on. Thank you.
What model of vacuum cleaner? Before changing the button, did it work properly (except for the button problem)? Maybe you didn't mount the small white connector with thin wires correctly.
You can use M3 screws, but they should not be longer than 7mm (thread length). Make sure you tighten them well to avoid imperfect contact and overheating of the connectors.
I've changed my dyson v10's trigger but when I put battery on it starts running and does not stop. I suspect that my triggers tail is longer than it should be. Do you have any suggestions?
Great video but it should be noted that before I pulled out the trigger assembly at around the 5:50 mark, there was a screw that I had to take out first. At first I pulled and pulled and finally shined a flashlight inside to discover the screw! Maybe Dyson changed their design but definitely should be added to the video.
Thanks for this video, I have saved myself 125€. Dyson wanted I paid 125€ to repare this broken peace, for me it's a robery. I'll put a complain about it.
I think you did not mount the module containing the hall sensor correctly. It is a small PCB that is mounted in the upper part near the selector button.
The thing that you take out at 2:39 ( with black and red wire) broke. The plastic white where the wires go. Now I have the wires free. Is there anyway to fix it? Thank you.

This is really weird. Can you send me a video to the email address TechFixPOVinfo@gmail.com? I would like to see in the video exactly how the defect manifests itself.
Yes, it would be a good idea to try pressing the button with less pressure. Otherwise, the only option would be to replace the existing button with a model that has a stiffened area where the button frequently fails.
I followed the video and changed the new trigger, as soon as I inserted the battery without pushing the trigger, the vacuum turns on and won’t stop. Any clue?
Before watching the video I had my Dayson V10 not working, now after changing the red button that had it broken, it is working all the time and does not stop. What can I do?
Carefully follow the steps from minute 7:00. You have to make sure that the trigger is fully pushed and that it is fixed with the screw. It seems that the trigger is not fully pushed and the red button permanently activates the button on the battery.
To everyone that put the vacuum back together and is horrified that it's not turning on - as I was - but instead only briefly shlwing three blue lines: it means you didn't plug the small white square connector back to the electronic board in properly. I suggest you go back, really push it in (it should click) and even add a nice layer of glue like it was when you opened it. Works like a charm after this!

I followed the instructions and it works again! However I can’t get it to stop. If the battery is in it keeps running. Where did I go wrong?
I think you didn't push the trigger hard enough inside the case and the button on the battery is pressed by the button you replaced.
