GOLDEE'S BACKYARD SMOKER IDEA IN MY DREAM OFFSET BUILD PT.2

- So, for a few years now, it's been my dream to build and design my own offset smoker from scratch... but I have never really had the money or means to get it done. Luckily for me, a good friend has offered to help with the fabrication, along with some others, for bit's here and there (Watch to find out 😉)
Also, big thanks to Smokey Oak Barbecue for their help and advice!
Goldee's new offset really caught my eye with the 90 coming out of the fire box!
I reached out to them, asking to completely replicate it, and they basically said,'Go for it'!
But then I thought about how I want to design my own offset smoker and how my build will simply incorporate Goldee's 90 idea into the design along with some other bespoke configurations I've always wanted in an offset!
This is the 2nd in a 3 part series of the build.
Be sure to like and subscribe so you can catch the next part... which will be going into the full details of the pit itself.

Very nice
Thanks 😃
When is part 3? CAn't wait to see it in full action.
It will be in a few weeks we are having a play with different dampers' then once we are happy with it we will then do the final video 📹 😀
It's coming on well! Look forward to seeing thermal imaging of it after tweaking the deflectors. I think you're also gonna need a counter weight for the lid to make that easier for lifting and closing.
I'm good with the lid 💪😂 I can't wait to get the thermal camera on it. We will be able to see exactly what it's doing then 😮😊
Looking good mate. Be nice too see it all finished 👍🏻
I can't wait either 😃😃
I've been waiting for part 2. Your smoker looks awesome 👌 inspiring
Nice one, thanks! I can't wait to get it finished 😃 it's going to be fun having a play with the damper in the 90 to see how it differs etc.
We're did you source all you steel for this looks great
That's a really good looking smoker. They did hell of a fab job!
Thanks, I'm happy with it so far! 😊 I can't wait to have a play with different dampers in the 90 to see if it makes any difference.
@@BrothersoftheGrill Look forward to the experiments! Just found your channel and subscribed. You guys are making some great looking BBQ over there! Chud's series on BBQ in Europe was an eye opener, and really cool to see!🍻
@jeffloffert9366 nice one! Yeah, we try and I follow Bradley to. He makes some cool stuff for sure as well as Leroy and Lewis 😃 I will be doing videos on the different things we try out with the 90 so stay turned 😉 😀
Fantastic job you definitely addressed and fixed all the shortcomings that I as a consumer saw with this model. Just wish you were in the US so you could customize me one
Thanks! I can't wait to get smoking now. 😋😃😃
So you have the goldees offset?
@@BrothersoftheGrill I'm going with the Workhorse 1975. Everything you fixed/changed on the goldie is why I decided not to go with it
Interesting video. Can't wait to see it cooking in person
Shouldn't be too long now 😃 mid June as we are going to have a play with some different dampers in the 90 1st.
@@BrothersoftheGrill haha June? Do you mean Feb?
@@BigAlsBBQ I was testing ya 🤣😃
@@BrothersoftheGrill haha lucky I was awake
@@BigAlsBBQlol 😆 😊
What if you did a “collector” from the firebox?
It would potentially just flow straight out and not a lot of heat would go into the cook chamber. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work as a reverse flow like that to be honest 🤔
dude you have the swetest smoker
thanks!
Hi I am reaching out to you for the sizing of the offset you build, I have my own fab shop, really into BBQ i have a Treager, Webber and Kamado but I really want to get into the offset smoking. I hope you don't mind me asking?
Hi my next video will be the exact specs etc so be sure to keep an eye out for that 🙂
Wow nice! Is goldees firebox fully insulated or non at all?
No it's not. The way it's designed means it doesn't need to be 😎
@@BrothersoftheGrill ohhhh I see 😲 I’m planning on using this style firebox on 150 gallon build , seeing your post made me more comfortable doing it
Thanks for the reply
I think it would work well in a bigger offset for surer! Please let me know how you get on with it 😊
I happen to build a pretty similar smoker with the 90 and a collector. I went with a square firebox because that's what I had available for material. I'm having the same temp issue as you where the upper cook chamber is far hotter than lower. have you had a chance to play with that? Did the diverter work for you?
Unfortunately my friend has been really busy and me too. We will be getting back at it next week so I will let you know 😉
I’m going to try sealing it this weekend. I used an air compressor tank and it sprung a bit. My theory is that I’m losing heat at grate level through the door.
Was thinking of making one similar but having the 90 from the firebox enter higher in the cook chamber to try to eliminate the hotspot. Thoughts?
That could affect the flow massively and possibly force the heat across the top and out the stack, but on the other hand, it could also work. Unfortunately, the only way to find out for sure is to build it and see? 🤷♂️ I would love to know how It actually works if you do.
I'm sure we have gone slightly bigger in diameter on the 90 and it seems to have a smaller hot-spot but I'm going to get a thermal camera and do the biscuit test to find out for sure.
What’s the latest with this pit? Will you be doing a cook vid?
Yes, very soon, I recorded a video recently 😊 I just have to edit it. I've just been super busy recently.
@@BrothersoftheGrill excellent! Can’t wait man.
@@GavM I will upload a short video over the weekend and then the final build full video next weekend 😉
@@GavM it's up!
Did you use a short or long radius 90 elbow?
Long 😉😃
@@BrothersoftheGrill Thanks!
@@austinnutter1013 I will be doing a full detailed video on all the specs very soon 😃
@@BrothersoftheGrill looking forward to it!
😋
They enjoyed the food for sure 😋
Yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaa
Why is everything reversed in England?
The reason I had the fire box that side is because where I was originally going to have it in my back yard is because the fire box would have been up against a brick wall.
