I always find it funny when keyboard youtubers do AliExpress challenges since this is the only viable way for me to have a custom mechanical keyboard LOL. I love the Akko switches.
Same I literally have the same build but with different keycaps and Akko rose reds instead

@@tobymarol7329 after some time i had to give up ISO and now i'm daily driving ANSI keyboard - ANSI keycaps with ISO keyboard settings ahahahaha, budget hotswap ISO keyboard that fit my needs are practically inexistent, also there are only 2 budget/clone sets i know that offer ISO-IT keycaps (usually for more than half of the whole set's price lol) and i don't like them much so rip xd
@@TortelliniSRL at the moment im on an iso-de 65%, i guess there's about 4 keycap sets under 100€...
Some time on i think i will swap to an ansi board and just put the missing letters on function keys, like fn+o for ö and so on. good think most pcbs support via by now :D
@@tobymarol7329 I also searched long and wide for ISO layout, but the issue was that it wouldn't have been a perfect fit either way because it is impossible to get a swiss layout anywhere. So I just settled for ANSI and even embraced the US Layout, although it is the US International layout which has the äüö characters on the right ALT + q, y and p. The hardest to get used to was actually the switched y and z button but as I mostly type in English anyway it's actually kind of nice. The special characters took a little getting used to but it's totally fine now.
Added bonus: because I code and script a lot of stuff, having , \ etc buttons much more easily accessible than on ISO layouts, I really like that.

If anyone is wondering about this keyboard, it is the Gamakay LK 67 and it is a good barebone set for beginners.
Personally think the Tiger Lite is better(You can get the DIY kit on Divinikey which is cheaper but doesn’t come with switches or keycaps so it’s good if you’re planning to change some stuff)

It is not good for beginners! I have one and it is great but it's a real pain modding and definitely not begginer level. It's a great board tho (cost me $100 aud

About outrages shipping prices - maybe only to USA? In East Europe most products ship for free, no shipping cost.
I recently just got my first gmk kit after waiting for a year. Took me less than a day to switch back to the same kind of keycaps found in this video. Weirdly enough the AliExpress ones feel better quality, have nicer cleaner legends, and sound better. Only thing I don’t really like are the words instead of icons for the modifiers

I built my own custom keyboard from Ali-Express and not gonna lie Ali-Express has good things to offer.

I used the same board for my budget build... but paid $60.
If I got the board for $34 then my build cost would have been 94$ (not counting lub and tools) and I upgraded the stabs.
Gateron Milky Yellows. I paid $16.50 but they are like $17 right now. You only need 75 max.
Durock Plate mount stabs to replace the poopy ones. Only $9 on RingerKeys.
Upgraded the plastic knob for an AliExpress $2 aluminum knob thats twice as thicc.
And went with Happy Planet caps from Drop, at the time were only $32... now $36.
How have you found the keyboard? I've been looking around for keyboard parts so I can build one myself

I love my TOM680 (literally the same base board as you ended up with). Kinda crazy how cheap your bluetooth version was though.
Similar build here too, except I went with the Rose Pinks instead of the Radiant Reds for switches.

Almost $40 for shipping? Hilarious! I guess it's much cheaper to send something from Aliexpress to Europe than USA because I have free shipping pretty often when ordering stuff to Poland.
i think it's the US's fault, shipping from/to US is horrendously expensive in my experience

even a lot of the stuff on esty now-a-days is just ali express sellers putting a markup on etsy for the same products they sell on ali express for quite a bit less, and they still ship from china anyway.

I thought they were a scam too... I really don't believe that anymore though. About half my caps and switches have come from them, and they've got some of the best sales around right now, stuff I've been eyeing for over a month is half price right now. Some stuff is over priced. Some of the most bad ass key cap sets I've got I got through them (only 1 in so far two more sets on the way)

The Akko switches are nice. I got the rose reds and I love them. Actually, yesterday I spent my afternoon lubing, they are nice out of the box and I have been using them stock for about 6 months, but I wanted the best version and it is really nice.
I also changed the tape mode my keyboard had because it smelled weird and I do use it Bluetooth often so I was afraid it might catch fire or something 😅
Better safe than sorry. I think there's a reason people remove the battery?
