It's so interesting how the same pigment can give such different results. These videos are a great resource, I think, to help us navigate all the similar-but-different options out there!
Thank you very much! I was trying to figure out a primary red pigment for paint making. I will end up with a lot of paint, so I must be careful to choose this! Very helpful!
I have Quin Red and Quin Rose. The first set of watercolors I got from Daniel Smith was Susie Short's Essential 7 set. It came with 15 ml tubes and Quin Rose was one of the colors. I then saw Quin Red on Daniel Smith's web site and wondered what the difference was since it had the same pigment number as Quin Rose. I asked the members of the Watercolor Workshop group on Yahoo Groups and was given a variety of answers; but, none really answered my question. So, I purchased a tube of the Quin Red and did my own test. I honestly could not see the difference when I swatched the colors out. I did mixes with other colors in the split primary palette and my conclusion was that these two reds could probably be used interchangeably. Thanks for sharing this video.
Agree that DS Quin Red & DS Quin Rose are close. Q Rose is a bit brighter and warmer and I think it mixes well. But if you have one, you don't need the other.
Yes, I use Quin Rose a lot and I had thought I needed to buy a different red but watching this showed me that I don’t absolutely need to right away. Oto Kano swatched some Sedona Red from Daniel Smith this week and it had some granulation to it. She liked it a lot and is considering adding it to her palette. Thank you!!
There are 3 Versions of PV19. Quinacridone Carmine (PV19 (RS)) Quinacridone Rose (PV19) and Quinacridone Violet (PV19 (BS)) Edit: Here is the list of the entire Quinacridone branch: Quinacridone Gold (PO49) Note: This pigment is EXTREMELY rare, so rare that it can almost always only be obtained by either a small dealer or theft. Quinacridone Burnt Orange (PO48) Quinacridone Red Light (PR207) Note: This pigment is only available by Mission Gold and it’s their Quinacridone Red, not to be confused with their Quinacridone Cherry Red, speaking of which... Quinacridone Cherry Red (PR209) Quinacridone Carmine (PV19 [RS]) Quinacridone Rose (PV19) Quinacridone Magenta (PR122) Quinacridone Crimson Lake (PR202) Quinacridone Purple (PV19 [BS]) {Yes I said it was QV before but due to hue, it’s more appropriate to call it Purple} Quinacridone Violet (PV55)
Quin Rose & Quin Violet - Daniel Smith... Had these in my palette from the start and umlikely to remove them. Although I do sometimes swap out the Quin Violet for Daniel Smith's Bordeaux...
I liked the Schminke Quin Violet better than the DS but it seems weak in the mixes. I agree of these 6 I think I would buy the DS Quin Red if I need more.
I do have Quinacridone Red (PV19), but I didnt do much with yet... I got it because it's suppose to be a replacement for Rose Madder, a color that I'm interested in for quite some time... anyway, currently my favourite red is my main mixing red which is Quinacridone Scarlet \ Coral (PR209).
Thanks Teoh. I have Quin Rose as my cool red and Quin violet just because I like it. I usually put a little warm yellow into the quin rose to mute it slightly because my M Graham Quin Rose is very vibrant.👍

my man is so consistent.
I love all the Quin colors! The DS Quin Sienna is gorgeous.
I just love the way the paint moves in the water
this was a really helpful video!! i love quin violet colours - the way they seem to cool down in hue as you dilute them more is so pretty!
I love how you just let the colors mix n' flow as they please☺️
Perfect timing...I was just trying to figure out which one of these I want to keep / add to my palette. I just love your videos Teoh!!

I was not expecting that lovely blue from QV and Pthalo Green! It is going to be a new mix for me for sure. Thank you!
Thank you for comparing these beautiful colors!
Those PV19's make a lovely pink color. I do wish they'd have put them in colons to differentiate each pigment much like the Phthalos did.
i just got the primary set 15 ml and davinci 5 set brushes im so glad i even bought a new pallette to put them in.i enjoy your videos thank you

I am in love with the permanent carmine/sap green swatch....it’s a whole forest in two colors!

This series is really helpful! Thank you!
I miss these vids 😕
This is exactly what I needed
The Ruby Red and Lemon Yellow looks like a nice ripe Peach
Thank you, Teoh! Very helpful.

I prefer Quinacridone Red to Quinacridone Rose. I find that Quina rose has a touch of a brown tone. The Quina red has more of a clean pink tone.
I have to say i didn’t expect the mixes to be so wildly different. Do a vid now using what you found out in a sketch. :)

Good video!
how do youcompare white
Is there a reason why you use New Gamboge and not Hansa Yellow Deep?
I 💛 Hanza Yellow Deep
It’s just a personal preference. I started using watercolour with New Gamboge and it works, so I don’t see much reason to change.
@@teohyc Ok! Thanks!

Where do the differences in Color come from when they are using the same pigments?
Not too sure about that. But heat is one way to change the colour of pigments.
Can you do PB29 next?
