I have the exact model Woodland Trek on the thumbnail. It's 10 years old and only used on dry conditions. Just cleaned it yesterday and looks and feels new. Back then I got them for 3600Rs( This was before Online sales/50% offs so it's MRP I guess.)

Well it's because people have a huge misconception that they are good for trekking.. especially when I had made that video..! Now lots of people know the truth though :)
Sir so nice and informative video... should I go for action shoes for sandakphu (12000 ft) trek in February ? Heard abt snow fall in that time.. Plz suggest ...
Absolutely.. But sandakphu is more of a walk.. so if you have any walking shoes of adidas or nike, then thay would be great too! Because, the grip of Action Trekking is not really required in the Sandakphu Trek..
I am not a regular trekker. Planning to do VOF and Himalayan lakes. Do I need to get proper trekking shoes? You have any suggestion for light weight shoes for women?
Well they aren't difficult expeditions.. so proper trekking shoes isn't a compulsory requirement.. go for warmth and comfort.. even Nike/Adidas/Fila shoes with rubber sole would be good.. quechua are a great option for light weight.. carry lots of socks.
Amazing video. Jam packed info. Kudos. Thanks for sharing. I’ll share my experience with decathlon recently with their ‘Trek 100’ shoes. The sole of this particular shoes are of bad quality. After investing 5k I was expecting them to last long enough. But within 3 years (Post warranty) the sole completely ripped off in pieces. Now there are completely useless as decathlon does not offer any repair nor they were apologetic for selling such poor quality shoes when confronted in store. Not just me even my 7/8 cousins we all had bought the same shoes together before going for Sarpass Trek in May 2018 everyone’s shoes are useless now. Imagine the kind of money they made. So I will recommend either save money and go for higher brands such as Columbia, north face, etc or buy cheap ones so it doesn’t make you regret even if the shoes tear apart. This is video is has all the info one needs before buying trekking or hiking shoes. As said shoes are the most Important for your any trek.
Hey hi, Would you recommend the CTR for a casual trek in Meghalaya ( root bridges) and Wei Sawdong falls. It could be slushy at times over there. If not the CTR, which one would you recommend? Note: I do hardly 2-3 light treks in a year and I get peanuts for salary.
Thanks Sahisnu.. Well the best shoes for running and travelling (where trekking isn't involved) are Nike or Adidas.. hands down.. For a lower budget, the Bata Power or Puma shoes are good too..
Hi Captan Parbat. Thanks for the video. After watching your video definitely i'll buy Action trekking shoe. As they have good grip. Only one question I have i.e. Does it useful for all terrain (slippery/wet). Is it useful for rocky and slippery terrain of Sahyadri. Please answer. And what about quechua NH1000 & MH1000.
In a medium price range of 4k to 7k, we only have Decathlon right now. . So go for it.. if you have a higher budget, then Salomons are wonderful! But use them for cross country and Himalayan treks.. as their rubber do not give that great a grip on basalt wet rock. Salomons you can get at adventure equipment shops.. or atleast they can help you by ordering it. I suggest do not go for online . As there might be fake ones.
Hi, I will be trekking in the sahyadri for the first time this august. Do u think action trekking high ankle shoes will have sufficient grip...I'm especially concerned about grip on wet rocks and slush..More so on the irshalgad trek...I suppose kalavantin would be too risky for monsoons
Action Trekking work like a charm in the Sahyadri.. before doing kalavantin or irshal, use the shoes in the city for a few days.. kalavantin can be done in the Monsoons too but with an experienced team.. else, Nov to Feb is the best time to visit Kalavantin...
Was heavy weight the main reason behind the rejection of Woodland Shoe or something else?? Please tell me if it is good for Trekking in Himalayas or not?
Very nice review... I am planning Aamarnathji trek this year ( lot of snow is expected) can afford up to Rs 4k shoe , I am size UK 12 , kindly suggest which one
Bro, budget is not a concern for me. Main problem is that I slip everytime on mildly wet surfaces. So please suggest me a good traction shoe with ankle support, waterproof etc., !!!
Actually all shoes have their pros and cons.. with good grip, comes bad waterproofing. The quechuas are a fair blend of both for now.. Also, don't go for ankle support unless you're going to do more of cross country trails.. because ankle support are beneficial for trail expeditions.. with more rock trekking, you need maneuverability..
Yep.. won't be heavy.. go for it.. and it will matter only for the 1st few treks.. then, your muscle memory kicks in and you won't even think about the weight.. so go for it..

Also, during my research I came across a brand named Johnmart / JMart. Is it any good? Also, the last time I saw this video and brought CTR shoes and did two Sahyadri treks wearing them. The shoes are still in good condition but they are not high-ankle. Awaiting your response..
So, I’m recovering from a sports injury and am looking for the most comfortable hiking shoe. I’m an avid traveler. It will be nice if it doesn’t burn a hole in my pocket. Kindly suggest.

Planning to buy ctr shoes online.. only based on your review otherwise never heard of them.. can these shoes be used while playing cricket.. normal running shoes get torn at sides and toes..
Hi, no no don't play cricket in them.. they're pretty heavy and their shape is not for any running sport.. I too face that problem of torn shoes but that's due to the shape of my foot. It's very common. Ctr are for treks, trails and for factory workers. .
Hello Captain...i will be going on Panpatia col trek in May this year..i do travel a lot and 1-2 good treks in a year..what shoe will be the good one.if you can suggest please
Hey, it's really difficult to get original gold stars anywhere below Delhi.. and my mountaineer friends from the Himalayas told me that they use them only for 1 trek usually.. as the quality has gone down considerably.. But one gets his hand on the original ones, they are definitely great..
bhai which are the best budget shoes for snow treks like kedarkantha, bramatal etc. if action trekking shoes or coaster ctr are best then will i go for it?
I am a regular trekker in Sahyadri range. I had been using action trekking for several years until I found a better option, 'Gold star'. More durable than action trekking (15+ treks, including monsoon treks, still hasn't torn, and I ain't kidding) better grip than action trekking, be it wet rocky patch or high gradient surface with scree, more comfortable than action trekking (at least for first 6-7 treks) and cheapest of them all (300₹). Try for 3-4 different Treks in sahyadri for different seasons. I guarantee that you will fall in love with them and do entire video dedicated to these shoes. If safety is your biggest concern during treks, switch to these shoes, there's no option with such a good grip (maybe, certain types of canvas shoes) even in little higher price range. Only drawback is the authentic ones are really hard to find (fortunately, I know the place where they are available)
Authentic Gold Star? I really had a bad experience with them early in my career.. But I'd love to try them now that an experienced trekker is saying this.. :) Thanks for this info mate ✌️ Where will I get them?
@@CaptainParbat I understand your sarcasm about authentic gold star. Actually the one I have been using is light weight with rubber sole. This one comes under different names like gold star, unistar, Border etc. There are other shoes named as Gold Star which are heavy and come with hard sole. This particular one I think is not authentic and not useful for treks.
@@CaptainParbat They are usually available with shops who sell cheap footwear. I usually buy them from shops located in Shirwane gaon, Navi Mumbai. I suggested few of my friends to buy these shoes from same place. They all had good experience while trekking.
Action Trekking will do just fine. But use them on a couple of weekend treks before the Hampta Pass trek. Or, if you know someone not using Forclaz, you could borrow them too.. cheers!
1. Too heavy 2. During monsoons there is no grip at all, you can slide on the rocks for your enjoyment. 3. They stink very badly after a long sweaty trek. 4. They get stolen from outside the temple.
You can go for Action Trekking itself for low altitude treks.. only drawback is that they aren't waterproof.. else the Quechua work just fine.. Quechua has female only models too..
The Bata power that you recommended I don't think it is a hiking boot as Bata doesn't market it as one on their website they call it as a outdoor adventure boot.
Yes it's not marketed as one, but it's pretty fair for trekking and many trekkers do use it.. At the end, it's the trekker that matters.. not the shoe. The shoe is just an accessory. 😉 I've trekked in paragons too.
@@CaptainParbat You rejected Quipco because it is not recommended for regular treks which kills the spirit of the boot according to you but you said the same for Bata power and you approved them why so ?
Suggest me the best trekking shoes [basically doing wildlife photography, jungles, long hiking, etc] with very good comfort and sole? My Budget is 3.5k max. Already ordered CTR will try it.
CTR are not very comfortable but have the best grip.. For more walking and less trekking, Quechua or any sport shoes like that of Fila or Nike work best..
@@CaptainParbat But when i go to the mountains i do lot of full-day hiking for wildlife photography wearing full day also hiking some stiff or bad terrain.
Depends.. it's a pretty decent pair.. but not waterproof... So if you have more than 4 days of snow walking, better go for Quechua.. keeping the feet warm, is more important than grip on a Himalayan trek.
@@CaptainParbat Thanks for reply. I am going to Goechala trek in Dec last week. I don't think their will be heavy snow in these days. Does CTR or Action trekking (not star rider) shoe will do this job ?
And the thing is, i just start my trekking in december. And i do trekk in the gap of 3/4 months, and i will do also in snow, rock, everywhere.Which shoe you orefer for this. And i also need long lived.
Go for Quechua only.. but take care of them when not using for trekking.. don't keep them in direct sunlight n all.. keep them wrapped when not using so that you'll get a long life of the shoes.
Please Suggest A Women Shoes For Kinnaur Kailash trek....I average do 5,6 treks in a year including high snow treks as well mosoon treks and dry regions also but till today's date,Shri Kinnaur Kailash will be my highest altitude till now,I am thinking about Wildcraft Women's Gabroo or Columbia shoes, plese suggest which would be best for me?????
Don't take Wildcraft at all.. Quechua NH150 or MH100 are good.. mh100 are low ankle, which I personally prefer, but you may choose as per you convenience.. Keeping your feet warm and dry is important in high altitude.. so carry more socks as well..
Hello captain parbat, I was shocked to see your outrite rejection of woodland shoes. I cud not understand reason of ur rejection. I hav been using that same model since 4 years & they r holding up well. I did nepal tracking also in them
Grip isn't really important in small Himalayan treks.. it's mostly walking.. i too have used woodland a lot.. but their weight and the grip are too negative.. They are absolutely useless on basalt rock.. try the action trekking.. and see the way you can jump around like spiderman not worrying a bit about any slips...
Absolutely.. any trek where snow trekking isn't involved for over 3 to 4 days, action are wonderful.. their only is that they aren't waterproof.. hence you should avoid them for too snowy treks.. keeping the feet warm is more important in Himalayan expeditions. But for kedarkantha, they are just fine..
@@CaptainParbat thank you... my kedarkantha trek is in jan 2020 it has already snowed alot... is it suggested to use Action trekking or shall I use some other waterproof shoes
Is action trekking shoe good for Himalayan hikes especially places like spiti? Lahaul etc also for small treks like two three days one?? What are the other budget options other than Quechua forclaz 500
@@CaptainParbat Follow up Review : So i bought two of them a pair each for me and my wife. I loved them and they grip like lizard grips to walls. Unfortunately my wife returned them as she got a shoe bite and felt uncomfortable after 1hr+ trek. I feel they should launch a newer more expensive version with soft cushion padding from inside. Hush puppies inside + action trekking shoe outside will be an unbeatable combination.
@@Be_Rational89 that's so true! I am actually planning to get their technology and start manufacturing better comfort shoes.. Action is not seeing the market here unfortunately..
Captain Parbat I cannot find action trekking shoes in local shops neither I could find the shoes on their official website ..... What do do now ? Have action stopped making trekking shoes?
The video was really informative and solved most of my misconceptions. The only doubt I've is that I'm going for Hampta Pass and Chandrataal treks in coming week but still I'm not able to decide which shoe to buy thanks to my confined budget. Waterproof shoes with good grip are concern . Will appreciate if you reply👍
Action will be just fine for them.. just carry and use extra socks.. and you're good to go.. but they aren't waterproof at all.. else, Quechua or Hi-tec...
Why not Woodlands? Cannot find a relevant video . I bought them sometime back so cannot return. Now planning valley of flowers trek saw your video and thinking again 😂
No don't.. they are so heavy.. they stink, not waterproof, they slip, the rubber sole is not good.. lots of reasons.. take bata power instead.. or if you want full waterproof, go for quechua..
I am currently using jungle shoes which are used by army and I am a little bit confused as I see other travellers wearing Decathlon shoes I have no problem in walking or tracking as I had use them in many tricks so should I go for a new one or I should buy like Costa CTR or action trekking shoes
For non snow treks, nothing beats action trekking.. but if you're fine in the jungle boots, why change? Quechua ideally should be used for low altitude Himalayan treks.. they don't really have good grip on wet basalt.. it's the comfort..
Hi sir which are the best shoes for monsoon treks in sahyadri, coaster CTR or action trekking shoes and if coaster CTR then do you know any place in pune where I can get this shoes?
I got the ctr shoes but they kinda have little holes in the sole it might just be a manufacturing defect , thinking returning them not sure if they will hold in a 8 day Himalayan trek . Should I go with them or buy quencha or something. My budget is around 3 to 3.5k
Of only 2 or max 3 days of snow trekking is involved, then ctr should be fine.. as these are not waterproof at all .. and we don't want your feet to be cold all the time. Carry lots of socks :)
On Prima facie even I couldn't find it online right now. But they are definitely available in Pune in most shops.. My team members just bought them.. but the price has increased.. around Rs 1,100/-
Hello sir this was really good information. I like to walk in city's as I love to take photos of different places. I use bata power shoes for all this. But I would like to upgrade so can you recommend any shoes for me
hello captain I'm going a trek to Pin Bhabha pass in the month of August. It is a High Altitude Trek. Can i use the Action Trekking shoes for the same?
Alam Sahani hi you can use Action Trekking for your trek, provided they are not worn and torn like the ones shown in the video and the thumbnail... make sure you carry a lot of socks, thick and thin.. preferably branded.. all the best :)
and remember to take off your shoes during moments of crossing any streams.. as the shoes aren't waterproof.. but there aren't more than 2 such patches.. experience the cold water with your bare feet ;)
Thanks Captain.. i'll remember the sock tip.. but are plenty of socks required as they might get wet nd I might need to change, or is it required to prevent blisters?
Hi Captain.. thanks for the reply and the sock tip.. do i need extra socks because they might get wet and I need change or are they to protect from blisters?
both... the former being more important.. it is also advisable to wear socks while sleeping at night.. so keep a different pair as night socks altogether. And 1 pocket of your rucksack just to keep the used/stinky socks..
Bought CTR Coasters on your recommendation, loving it, comfort level is very very good with respect to its price, looks premium and solidly built. Bought it from Singh Brothers, they run a UA-cam channel, contacted them thru it. Thanks for the recommendation, otherwise I wouldn't have known about it.
Yep.. absolutely sure about Woodland! And personally, I have used only the Cat Navigator once.. had amazing grip and were very comfortable, but they aren't easily available in our country :(

Are you descending at Gurdum or Phalut?
Maybe for Phalut you could use them.. but in general, woodlands suck.
Awesome video. Sir, I really love all your videos but why did you reject woodland shoes?
1. Too heavy
2. During monsoons there is no grip at all, you can slide on the rocks for your enjoyment.
3. They stink very badly after a long sweaty trek.
4. They get stolen from outside the temple.
@@CaptainParbat yours got stolen? 😅🤔
Thank you 🙏
True Informative video !
So true for the Wildcraft shoes.
I got their flagship Amphibia trekking shoes.
The sole got seperated only after one hike.

Hi. Informative video. Can you also tell about shoes by columbia?
Hi Captain Parvat , Can you suggest a trekking shoes for women? Trekking in VoF, Panchkedar, etc. Thank you
You can go for Action Trekking itself for low altitude treks.. only drawback is that they aren't waterproof.. else the Quechua work just fine.. Quechua has female only models too..
@@CaptainParbat thank you
The Bata power that you recommended I don't think it is a hiking boot as Bata doesn't market it as one on their website they call it as a outdoor adventure boot.
Yes it's not marketed as one, but it's pretty fair for trekking and many trekkers do use it..
At the end, it's the trekker that matters.. not the shoe. The shoe is just an accessory. 😉
I've trekked in paragons too.
@@CaptainParbat You rejected Quipco because it is not recommended for regular treks which kills the spirit of the boot according to you but you said the same for Bata power and you approved them why so ?
@@CaptainParbat sounds fair 😊👍
Please share buying link of Action trekking shoes.
Make video on most treeking shoes sold by decathlon and difference between hiking and trekking shoes
I am going for winter himalayan trekking for 8 days.Does Star rider trekking shoes from Action are good for this purpose ?
Depends.. it's a pretty decent pair.. but not waterproof...
Action will be fine.. but do a couple of treks nearby before..
Hllow, can you please tell me which trekking shoe is best under 3000
And the thing is, i just start my trekking in december.
@@CaptainParbat Thank you..
are bata power shoes worth it for a Himalayan monsoon trek? (only for one trek). altitude:14000 feet
Bindaas..
[03:32] It's Ke-chua not Kwe-chua (Hindi word for earthworm, see their logo).
I am sure it's actually Keshava :)
@@CaptainParbat Yeah probably that, or could be Kachhua or Kattappa also :)

Nope, they're bad for trekking too. I have used them. I'm sure you'll change your opinion after using Lowa or Action 😀
What about quechua mh100?
Please give me your verdict.
Want to do kedarnath trek post which I am planning to use them sahyadri
Hello captain parbat, I was shocked to see your outrite rejection of woodland shoes. I cud not understand reason of ur rejection. I hav been using that same model since 4 years & they r holding up well. I did nepal tracking also in them
Grip isn't really important in small Himalayan treks.. it's mostly walking.. i too have used woodland a lot.. but their weight and the grip are too negative..
They are absolutely useless on basalt rock.. try the action trekking.. and see the way you can jump around like spiderman not worrying a bit about any slips...
I am using action trekking shoes for treks in Sayadhri... can I use It on snow treks like Kedarkantha ?
Absolutely.. any trek where snow trekking isn't involved for over 3 to 4 days, action are wonderful.. their only is that they aren't waterproof.. hence you should avoid them for too snowy treks.. keeping the feet warm is more important in Himalayan expeditions. But for kedarkantha, they are just fine..
@@CaptainParbat thank you... my kedarkantha trek is in jan 2020 it has already snowed alot... is it suggested to use Action trekking or shall I use some other waterproof shoes
Action will be just fine for Kedarkantha.. :)
Just carry extra socks 🤟
@@CaptainParbat thank you for your help ☺
Is action trekking shoe good for Himalayan hikes especially places like spiti? Lahaul etc also for small treks like two three days one?? What are the other budget options other than Quechua forclaz 500
Action trekking are great for small himalayan treks... In the segment of 3k to 6k, nothing really beats the Forclaz 500
I bought action trekking shoes after watching this video. Hope they as good as you claim to be. Will update here soon :D
They are 🤟

Review : So i bought two of them a pair each for me and my wife.
It's made under Campus now..

@@CaptainParbat yes brother... I tried a test on wet floor.. they are just good looking. Nothing else

Action Trekking!
Please give your thoughts on Columbia trekking shoes
I am currently using jungle shoes which are used by army and I am a little bit confused as I see other travellers wearing Decathlon shoes I have no problem in walking or tracking as I had use them in many tricks so should I go for a new one or I should buy like Costa CTR or action trekking shoes
For non snow treks, nothing beats action trekking.. but if you're fine in the jungle boots, why change? Quechua ideally should be used for low altitude Himalayan treks.. they don't really have good grip on wet basalt.. it's the comfort..
Hello sir my budget is 2000 suggest me good trekking shoes for kedarnath trip
I want to buy the Salomon. Where can I buy it? I tried to look up online but could not come across a legit retailer. Please suggest.
Better buy it from an adventure equipment shop... Online can't be trusted. In Pune, we get Salomon at Step-In Adventure
@@CaptainParbat Any outlets in Bombay?
You can talk to Mr. Chavan of MSA Borivali. You'll find the number on Google by Mountain Sports Academy

Hi sir which are the best shoes for monsoon treks in sahyadri, coaster CTR or action trekking shoes and if coaster CTR then do you know any place in pune where I can get this shoes?
You can get them at Deccan bang opposite to R Deccan Mall.. or City Pride Shoes on Kumthekar Road..
Both are equally good.. Action has better comfort, CTR has more durability... Your choice..

Sir what about quechua mh100, how is it? I have a budget around 3500-4000.
Nothing Beats Quechua in that budget.. take the better model than mh100 though.. for better waterproofing.
Hey, Can u please provide link for action trekking shoes... It will be great help if u can

Nice and very informative video ....thanks for providing such rich information.
hello captain
I'm going a trek to Pin Bhabha pass in the month of August.
