A tip for those who can't afford to buy pieces of driftwood and rocks, I collected all my wood and rocks from the beach and I nicked some gravel from my neighbours driveway as a substrate.
You can use all kinds of rocks provided they won't release Calcium or worse things like Sulphur. First can be tested with acid (vinegar, lemon). It can be stuff like coconut shells, planting pots... and it's similar with wood. For example willow, vine, alder are all good to use, they just float. On the other hand Walnut wood is said to be mildly toxic to fish.
I never boiled the rocks I foraged I just give them a good scrub under the hot tap. Not had any issues, the rocks were being cooked by the sun all summer also so not likely to have anything nasty on it. Just don't take your rocks and wood from some jank swamp or somewhere dirty. A beach in the middle of summer when the rocks are being cooked all day is perfect for finding safe to use decor, as others suggested you should acid test the rocks incase they contain tons of calcium which will raise your pH
IMPORANTANT NOTE: if you don't have a cycled sponge for your filter like I had, either cycle the tank (a quick google will tell you how to do this) or change the water everyday and replace with dechlorinated tap water at the correct temperature. You will need to do this for at least 2 weeks and I'd strongly suggest adding beneficial bacteria as well. I use API Quick Start.

You kept this simple, but how much would buying all those plants and things cost? I want to see you start from scratch and actually go shop and build on a budget.
@@milesnapue You can start with a cheap used tank maybe including light and filter. My first tank (I bought a cheap new one) did cost about 180-200 $ incl. light, filter, gravel, plants, wood and fish.
Bear in mind empty MD has soft water, he doesn't have hard water strains. For hard water is a magic sponge, it works really well.
Thanks for that tip! Next time I'll try a Magic Sponge! 👍
MD can you send a link for that sit on filter system. As looking at getting a couple nano tanks
Will you keep that light on for 24hrs? Also are you using any dimmer/light control to adjust the light intensity?
MD, i have a very odd proposition, an English temperate themed tank, ive been researching into fish you could have, and there 2 types of loaches, stone and spiny, minnows, or if you wanted to go for a wierdo, sticklebacks, whats your thoguhts?
Nice tip for the filter
I love how he chickles on his intro. It sounds like 2014 PewDiePie
I was wondering where did you order your twinstar light?
cheers another super cool tank there
I don't know what country you live in but I wish I could get the plants you do. so many great ideas for aquascaping I just don't have the resources. One day.
i added sag to my turtle's tank and i hope one day it looks like the sag in your tanks 😍
Love the channel mate! What breed of goldfish do you have? I have to have one!!
Oh he's a beautiful beta
Amazeballs! Awesome!
