@DuckyTin the year is 199whatever. Some British weebs manage to get the license to dub and release a vhs of the Devilman ova (direct to video anime). They do so but they’re not the best at it, and it’s not like anime is understood or respected by larger audiences so to prevent it from being rated as kid friendly they have to add in a bunch of swears. In an attempt to preserve Akira’s more polite way of speaking (or something I don’t know, I’ve only see the dub of the first ova and haven’t watched or read anything else) they have him talk formally and using “golly”s and “gosh”es but are also obligated to add in gratuitous uses of the f word. Part of the weirdness here is that the timing is off because they need to use different clips because there’s not a direct equivalent to the scene, but part of it is just part of the old Devilman dub. You can find the first part in full on UA-cam under the name “Devilman: The Birth” but you can get a thing of individual clips from it in “The Devilman Experience”

Zack Fair yea though I said it was bad it's not to say it wasn't without its charm, much like the other Manga dubs from that time. Turn the old school badass, machoness up to 110% and make every other thing said a swear word and that's pretty much a Manga dub. Good times though.
Larksong Manga Entertainment was the name of the distributor of the OVA back in the 90s for Devilman. They are a UK based company and pumped out of other old anime on VHS (and DVD) like Fist of the North Star, Guyver, Dominion Tank Police, Violence Jack, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, Cyber City Odeo, Street Fighter II and ofcourse Akira.
