Steven does have a unique bounce to his drumming that is incredibly important to the sound of the band. For years I thought sorum was lacking on the UYI material, but I have to say after hearing some demos of Adler on the UYI material, it was apparent that he was over his head and really holding the material back. I don’t mean to say one is better than the other as it’s a matter of taste but adler is one of those players that does what he does exceptionally well but beyond that he isn’t going to shine. Some drummers make that work, lars and ringo come to mind, but all in all I think sorum was a step in the right direction for the uyi material whether people like them as much as appetite or not.
The original 5 were an incredible and lucky mix.of styles that created a rocknrll weapon of mass destruction that will never have equals.. it wasnt rock, it wasnt metal, it wasn anything heard before or after... It lasted very fee years.. they were the Sex Pistols of american hard rock. Unfortunately Steven was the first one to be sacrified..he just couldnt handle..and hes lucky to be alive today. He went really through hell and back. They made history... And its not a casualty that Axl couldnt make anything as good without the others. Even this half reunion they are milking as much as they can (I went to see them in 94 and in the first round of the so called reunion but i will.never go again unless Izzy showed up ... But hes so cool that will never delude himself doing that.. I hope he comes back as a solo or with a new JuJuHounds tour.. that would be gantastic)... Ypu dont need to be a virtuoso to be an unrepleacable member of a band... Charlie Watts is the perfect and easy example. Steven is a good drummer but what makes him special is his style..his choices on the kit... The hihat sound...the cowbell... That swing... Hes not a session man .. Appetite wpuld be another record without him.
He's using a single pedal combined with his toms. I don't think he sounds bad, obviously the video sounds shitty bc this is a very old crappy recording

While Adler is no technician his feel and groove on AFD suits those songs perfectly. He was 1/5 of the band but 1/3 of the sound.
